Invoke javascript on validation error?

Is there any way to invoke some javascript when I get a form validation error?

I'm having problems with dynamic menus. I was getting that "value is not valid" error because my menus don't identically match the arraylist I initially provide them with in the backing bean. So I decided to just get around it with javascript.
Anyway I think I have found a solution using this as a guide:

  • Javascript generated validation error message not rendering properly.

    Hi guys. I am a web developer looking for some help with a Safari issue.
    I have a web form with client side validation. The page is built in asp.net and uses a validation summary to display the error messages in an unordered list. The validation is not the standard asp.net version, but a version they came up with at the company I work at.
    The validation produces some javascript in the page, which appears just before the closing </form> tag, which I understand can cause issues in Safari? However I cannot change the place it appears on the page because its part of a sort of CMS template.
    The validation text appears fine in other browsers, but in Safari it produces a white space. However if you highlight over the space, the text is revealed, and then stays on the page. Also if you scroll the page so that the space disappears off the top of the page, and then scroll back up again, the text is visible. Also if you click the submit button again the text is revealed.
    I have also found that if you use Safari in the Transparent Window mode, it all works fine.
    If anybody out there has any ideas what could be causeing the problem, I would be extremely grateful.
    Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.4.9) Safari 2.0.4

    Hi,
    no, there doesn't exist a client side JavaScript API for this. The message element is only rendered if there is a component error detected in the lifecycle. This means there is nothing you can hook into (e.g. using document.getElementById())

  • Validation errors in invoke application phase

    Hi,
    Is it possible to some how cause validation errors in the invoke application phase?
    I have a search form which uses a request scope managed bean. When the normal validations (one required field and another custom validator) fail in the validations phase, the form is redisplayed with errors and the user can hit submit again and the form will do as expected.
    I would also like to cause this behaviour if there where no search results, or more than the maximum, but as the bean is in request scope, when the form is redisplayed with these error messages if the user hits submit again the form is simply reloaded with the same values but no errors and the invoke application phase is never reached. They have to then hit submit again for it to work.
    Upon either of these errors I add a faces message to the context which gets displayed properly, but that doesn't seem to suggest validation error so request is still ended. I though by setting one of the components to invalid (by binding it to the managed bean) it would work but no joy.
    Any ideas how I can achieve this?
    Thanks!

    Hi I am also facing the issue. If any one got the solutoin for this please post it
    Thanks

  • ASP Javascript Validation Error -

    Help!!!!
    Hi, i would appreciate some help on the following validation
    error i get the error is -
    "The tag: "script" doesn't have an attribute: "runat" in
    currently active versions.[XHTML 1.0 transitional]" - where the
    code that i have used is -
    "<script language="vbscript" runat="server">
    function PreserveWhitespace(str)
    tabStr =
    chr(160)&chr(160)&chr(160)&chr(160)&chr(160)
    str = Replace(str,chr(10),chr(10)&"<BR>")
    str = Replace(str,chr(9),tabStr)
    PreserveWhitespace = str
    End Function
    </script>"
    I've used this code to ensure that the data returned from the
    database is correctly formatted - however the validation error is
    causing the site not to be w3c validated -
    Appreciate the help --

    .NET does not support VBScript. If your not using .NET, get
    rid of the runat="server"

  • How to track a validation error in PL/SQL

    Is there a way in PL/SQL to track the fact that a page is rendered after a validation error?
    I know there is condition type "Inline validation errors displayed" but
    I would like to "translate" in PL/SQL expression. In case I would combine it with other PL/SQL expressions.
    Thanks,
    Marco

    I try to show/hide a div depending on the occurence of errors. I resolved this problem by doing this in javascript.
    function showEdu(){
    $("#edu").animate({ height: 'show', opacity: 'show' }, 'slow');
    $s('P6_EDU_SHOWN','Y');
    function hideEdu(){
    $("#edu").animate({ height: 'hide', opacity: 'hide' }, 'slow');
    $s('P6_EDU_SHOWN','N');
    function checkEduError(){
    if($("span").hasClass("errTxt") == true)
    {showEdu();}
    else
    if($v('P6_EDU_SHOWN') == 'Y')
    {showEdu();}
    else
    {hideEdu();}
    }

    Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately, I cannot get it to work.
    I've updated the IDC transport server to 3 different filename_formats, and tried the corresponding files, with correct names to match the filename_format.
    After updating the IDC I validated the trading partner (host).
    I then updated the agreement using the updated IDC, and validated the agreement.
    I then validated the host again.
    Then I created a new deployment.
    And still received the error.
    I then deleted the old IDC and created a new IDC and new agreement and new deployment, trying 3 different "Internal delivery channel filename format" values (updating and validating the agreement and host trading partner each time).
    And still received the error.
    No matter what I set EITHER the IDC "filename format" OR "Internal delivery channel filename format", the b2b.log always reports :
    filename_format = %TO_PARTY%_%DOCTYPE_NAME%_%TIMESTAMP%.txt
    e.g.
    2010.05.16 at 18:05:02:758: Thread-15: B2B - (DEBUG)

    timestamp:Thu Jan 15 09:54:18 PST 1970
    When I try a file with a revision number, e.g. SA_DRUGS_10.txt the log shows :

    which makes sense as "10" is not a timestamp.
    If I exclude the revision, using SA_DRUGS.txt the log shows :

    So, the timestamp gets ignored (as there is no "_" delimiter), but it still fails, probably because there is no timestamp in the filename.
    So, why won't the UI correctly set the IDC filename_format or Internal filename_format ?

  • I have a radio button that loses value on validation error

    I have a radio button that is normal and then goes to readonly when a condition is true. The page has region with items as well as a tabular report region

  • Validation error for tag cfloop

    Hi All,
    Complete newbie to CF here.  I've inherited (or bought) an online business which has its site written in CF.  I haven't done this sort of stuff before but do work SQL for a living and object oriented stuff plus have done a bit of html and php so CF isn't mind blowing to me (in its simple form).
    I've downloaded my site on to my computer to run a local copy that I can hack to pieces if needs be.  For some reason, I have a few problems with the site running locally.  The first error I'm getting is a Attribute validation error for tag cfloop.
    Basically, index.cfm has this bit of code in it:
    <cfinvoke component="#datasets#" method="storedProcedure" returnvariable="getFeaturedWineries_qry">
        <cfinvokeargument name="storedProcedure" value="usp_GetFeaturedWineries">
    </cfinvoke>
    Ok, easy enough.  Anyway, there's a call down the page to:
    <cfinclude template = "#REQUEST.CFMPath#includes/displayFeaturedWineries.cfm">
    Within displayFeaturedWineries.cfm is the code that calls the stored proc invoked above:
    <cfloop query="getFeaturedWineries_qry" startrow="1" endrow="2">
    Bam, that's where the error occurs.  "The value of the attribute query, which is currently getFeaturedWineries_qry, is invalid.
    What???  The stored proc exists and it only returns two records (which begs me to wonder why you would have startrow and endrow but anyway, it doesn't work with or without it).
    The other interesting thing is that this works on production, NO PROBLEM!!!  WTF?  How can it work on production but not locally.
    The only thing I'm starting to think is:
    a)  I've missed a setting somewhere in CF or
    b)  I'm running Apache as compared to IIS or
    c)  I'm running SQL 2008 and CF 9 which will no doubt be different to the production host server.
    Should B or C be causing THAT type of problem??
    Thanks,
    Matt

    I'm not sure what code apart from the above is going to show you what you could possibly need to solve this, but here goes.  The following is only snippets of the code, but they are the relavant snippets.  Other stored procs work.  The cfdump for getFeaturedWineries_qry shows 'usp_getFeaturedWineries'.  I know its there because I've been unable to run "EXEC usp_getFeaturedWineries" after copying it straight out of the code.  As previously stated, there are other stored procs which are running fine.

  • Validation error corrupts component tree?

    I've got a strange problem trying to use validation on input fields.
    The basic setup is as follows:
    I've got a page divided into two parts with separate h:form tags, the one holding a dataTable with some elements and the other showing the element details in inputFields once an item is selected in the dataTable via a commandLink. A commandButton on the detail side allows you to update the values of the selected item which is being reflected in the dataTable on reload. So far so good.
    Here comes the strange part:
    All the inputFields are marked required. Now once you leave a field empty and try to submit the form, you get a validation error as expected. BUT if you now select a different element from the dataTable, ONLY the field whose validation formerly failed is being updated, the other fields still show the same value as before. The backing bean method that belongs to the commandLink is being executed, and the underlying data object of the input fields is being set properly, only the values in the component tree aren't updated. This behaviour persists until you enter a valid value in the formerly invalid input field and submit. Debugging shows that as long as at least one field has had validation errors, only the getter of these backing beans properties are being invoked during render response phase, as opposed to the "normal" case where the getters of all the backing beans properties are being called.
    For some reason, the render response phase seems to ignore the other components in the component tree when there was some validation error on one or more fields.
    Another interesting observation:
    This is the behaviour if I don't specify an action attribute in the commandLink selecting an element from the dataTable, as I want to return to the same page again. But if I define a navigation case that brings me to the same page and put that into the action attribute, the problem doesn't occur. Unfortunately this is no option for me, as I'm aiming to do all this with ajax.
    I've created a simple example so you can try out yourself:
    test.jsp:
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>

    Is there noone here who can tell me if this is behavior like specified or if I miss some point?
    A possible solution seems to be telling JSF programmatically to rebuild the view root. Does anyone if this is possible?

  • Validation error for non-null throws false error condition

    I am trying to perform a DML (INSERT) with a form element (textbox) that has been disabled on the form.
    The objective is to allow the user to:
    1) disable a form element using javascript when a radio element is selected - works OK using an onclick event
    2) user clicks a button to ENTER (perform a INSERT DML) - here the validation throws an error but I have enabled the previously disabled form element and I have used $x_Value() to input a value into the form element by onsubmit event on button.
    If I remove the validation error trap the DML saves the appropriate value.
    I can create two buttons and it works:
    1 button to enable fields that were previously disabled
    2 button to perform DML. (works if after button 1 I set focus on any form field with my mouse.)
    Any help would be appreciated.
    marshall

    Knight,
    Thanks for your interest in helping.
    I am trying not to create a situation w/bugs and such. I think I can devise a work around but I would like a more "correct" solution. ;-)
    To explain what I am doing I have a form that a person can use to enter a complaint. The person can give their last - middle - first name but they can also decide to be anonymous. If anonymous they click checkbox. Onclick of checkbox I fire javascript to disable name fields and place "Anonymous" in the last_name disabled field. The user can enter other data and when the user clicks ENTER I want to insert into the DB but the validation error trap of APEX sees a disabled field as a null. I want to place "Anonymous" in the last name field and then save the record with other data besides name.
    To add to it - I can create two buttons 1-button enables and 2-button inserts and the same code works if I touch( give focus) to a field in between enabling and inserting into the DB
    Does that help explain better.
    Thanks again - hope you or someone can help - best regards.

  • BPM Problem: Schema validation error notification

    Hello all,
    When a schema validation error takes place upon receiving XML messages via HTTP, is there something that can be set up in BPM to notify data owners? (either alert or email)
    Regards,
    Steve

    Bhavesh,
    <i>When you mean source schema validation, does it imply that you want to validate your Source XML before graphical mapping to make sure it meets the Source XML Schema?</i>
    validate my Source XML
    <i>As you pointed out you are usinga BPM, you can wrap the Transfromation step with a Exception handling block, so when there is a mismatch of Source schema and ite actual message the exception handler will be invoked and in the exception handler you can trigger alerts using the control step.</i>
    I'm using an outbound interface (outside BPM) to call the abstract interface (very first step in BPM), and there's a tranformation step after that.
    -If the Source schema is wrong, will the error take place at the outbound interface or at the transformation step?  If outside at the outbound interface, i wouldn't be able to wrap anything around it.
    -Exception handling block means the BLOCK step?
    Regards,
    Steve

  • Page rendering process doesn't run after validation error

    I have a page rendering process (On Load - After Regions) that needs to be run for my page to be rendered properly; however, it doesn't run when the page is rendered after a validation error. In debug mode, I see the following line:
    "0.05: ......do not perform process because inline validation condition found."
    Is this a bug? Validations are meant to prevent execution of On Submit processes, but is there a reason to also not run rendering processes?
    I need to dynamically construct some javascript and insert it somewhere after a certain item on the page. Is there a workaround?
    Thanks.
    Rodney

    Rodney,
    Let me see if I understand your question:
    1. A page is rendered
    2. The page is submitted
    3. A validation fires and fails
    4. The page is re-rendered displaying the validation error message
    5. Your on-load after regions process did not fire
    You want to run a process in all cases; in the standard page load case (1) and in the re-load case (4).
    You can do this by creating a region of type PL/SQL. You can give the region a null template so that it will not display any values. The region can be the last one displayed on the page; so that it will be run last.
    You also asked if it is a bug that the on-load after regions process did not fire; as the debug message indicates this is proper. Here is an example that illustrates why you typically don't want to perform processes when rendering a page after it was posted causing a validation to fire.
    Lets take the following example:
    1. create a form on the emp table; assume a salary column called "SAL"
    2. create a validation that says the salary must be numeric
    3. edit a row of the EMP table
    4. change the employee job from clerk to manager; and enter a "X" in the salary item
    5. submit the page
    6. the validation will fire; page processing will stop; and the page will be re-displayed
    7. the process which fetches the rows will not fire; and the page will be re-displayed; the job item will display the change from "clerk" to "manager" and salary will still contain the invalid "X" value. If the process had fired it would have replaced the values in the form.
    My recommendation is that you use regions for any processing that is UI releated. I hope this helps.

  • LOV selection fails when there are validation errors on the base page

    Hi
    I have lovs and some other required fields on a page . If there are any validation error on one of those text fields and if I open the LOV (not related to the text fields) and tries to select
    an item from the LOV search results, it doesn't do it until unless I go back to the base page and correct all the validation errors on the text fields eventhough those text fields have nothing to do with the LOV.
    Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Anwar

    I am on Anwar's team, and I've been dealing with the same problem, although on a different page.
    The JSPX for a contrived example is below. I can provide backing bean code, if needed.
    The form contains two LOVs. Both fields are required. If you leave both fields blank and click Continue, you get a red box around both fields and error messages are displayed. If you then click the magnifying glass to select from the first LOV, the LOV pop-up is rendered. However, you cannot make a selection, either by double-clicking a line item or by clicking OK (the OK button has no effect). All you can do is cancel.
    Interestingly, the act of clicking the magnifying glass on the first LOV gets rid of the red box around that field. So, once you cancel out, the second LOV actually does work. If there were more than two fields on the page, that wouldn't happen. The problem seems to be that the LOV doesn't work unless there are no validation errors on the page other than for the LOV which is being invoked.
    As you can see, immediate="true" is set on both LOVs. The behavior is the same whether this is true or not.
    I'm left thinking there must be something obvious that we're missing... but none of us can see it.
    Thanks,
    KEN

  • Losing data on a tabular form when submitting a page with validation errors

    I have a window that has a regular HTML form at the top that has several items. Then on the bottom of the page, I have a tabular form where the user can enter multiple rows of information. Unfortunately, when the page is submitted, if there are any validation errors, any changes that were made in the tabular form are lost.
    Any suggestions

    Fair enough :)
    Actually what I was meaning was could I use a collection to repopulate the tabular form when I receive errors. It appears as if it may work. However, I am hitting one snag.
    I have created a PL/SQL Process that runs On Submit and Before Computations/Validations. In this process, I have saving the values in the tabular form to a collection.
    I was then hoping to create another process that ran after any errors occur. However, it does not appear as if any processes run when the screen redraws after a validation issue. Is there a process that runs after validations when the screen is redrawing? Will I need to do this using javascript?
    Thanks

  • Can SOA 11g fault policy handle XSD Validation errors from the Mediator?

    I would like all errors in my SOA process to go through the fault-policies.xml. But I don't seem to be able to catch any mediator error caused by an XSD validation failure. A sample of the sort of error I am trying to 'catch' is:
    Nonrecoverable System Fault          oracle.tip.mediator.infra.exception.MediatorException: ORAMED-01303:[Payload default schema validation error]XSD schema validation fails with error Invalid text 'A' in element: 'TermCode'Possible Fix:Fix payload and resubmit.

    You'll notice that I've tried a number of ways (and various other combinations) to try to steer the error above into my Java fault handler but nothing has meet with success. The mplan is as follows:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>

    I'm a newbie to Oracle SOA. So perhaps I am missing the obvious. But I haven't read much in the documentation specifically about using the XSD validation option on the mediator and have seen nothing specifically about catching this sort of exception in the fault policy (apart from the faults I already have in my policy). Can anyone suggest what I am doing incorrectly here or perhaps whether what I am attempting to do is not possible? Thanks.

    Has anyone got it working yet?
    In my case, I have the following sequence:
    FileAdapter -> Mediator1 -> Mediator2->DB Adapter
    I am deliberately introducing validation error in File. Isn't it correct to assume Fault framework would get triggered at Mediator1 level since we are invoking FileAdapter service?
    I am getting a strange behaviour. If I enable XSD validation at Mediator1 level, process is Faulted with no re-try option. However, if I enable XSD validation ONLY at Mediator2 level, I get Recoverable fault. There seems to be some disconnect between documentation and reality. I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 version and SOA Suite 11g.
    Thanks,
    Amjad.
