Inx file not completly 'clean'?

One of my plugins has a conflict with an inx file. Some background info: I did have an old cs2 file, which I later opened/resaved in cs3. I then exported it to, so I thought, 'clean' inx file. So when I opened it in combination with this thirdparty incopy plugin, it was a clean indesign file with nothing out of the ordinary inside it. But something was still in the file which made the plugin behave strangely. Then I started a fresh cs3 file, copied the textfields/styles/colours from the old converted cs2 file onto it and exported this new file to inx and used that one with the plugin. Now it worked fine.
Could it be that even though I exported to inx, there still can be funny stuff inside it? I thought exporting to inx would result in a clean file, but:
- open/convert cs2 to cs3, export cs3 file to inx: still something inside the inx file which might conflict with a.o. a plugin
- new cs3 file, export cs3 file to inx: default clean file

What INX and IDML are actually intended to do is to write the entire file from ID version n that ID version n-1 can read.
This is oft-repeated, but it is not really  true. INX and IDML are designed for "interchange.". They are designed so that 3rd party developers (even users) can easily write applications that can read (and write) to these files, to exchange content with InDesign. Their primary purpose is not to be a backward-compatible format or a portability format between InDesign versions. They are formats designed to be public (can we say "open"?) from the get-go, and there's quite a lot of published Adobe documentation on how to parse these files.
It is true that Adobe recognized that INX could be used for this, and that it was probably much easier to have CS4 write INX files to the CS3 standard than it was to have CS4 write CS3-format INDD files. INDD is a complex database file format and code that deals with it is higher performance than with INX/IDML files, but it is not simple, and it is more prone to corruption.
We actually use INX and IDML files in our workflow to pull out information from layouts as part of managing print content that becomes web content (and other).
One thing about IDML/INX is that if you have corruption, you can edit the IDML/INX file to narrow down the source of the corruption and ultimately figure out what the problem is. This is a pain in the neck and may be boring and repetitive, but it is definitely doable (and scriptable).
The reason that opening a CS3 file in CS4 (or CS5) can help is that CS4 and CS5 have different bugs than CS3. And in some cases, they have better checks for corruption in the INDD file and may be more successfull in opening a corrupt file and managing its corruption (i.e. not further corrupting other data structures) than CS3. Though the bugs are different -- not all uniformly better. So when dealing with corruption, different approaches may be necessary.
Anyhow,  your comment are totally valid!
I just kind of want to sing out about INX/IDML's purposes, because I think too often people think of them as backwards formats, when that is not their job. Oh, IDML is also the format for InCopy assignments and snippets. And I think one other item I am momentarily forgetting...

  • [IDS CS3 WIN] .tmp and .idlk files not getting cleaned up

I'm using a C# Soap client with CS3 Server on Windows. My script is opening a template file, importing a tagged file, then saving an ID document and generating a PDF file. The script closes the document before quiting, but I'm seeing a trail of .idlk and .tmp files left behind on the server.
Example: I'm starting with the following files... importTemplate.indd and importTest.txt. The script opens importTemplate.indd, imports importTest.txt and creates importTest.indd and importTest.pdf, then closes the document.
For testing purposes, these files are all located in the same location. What I see in the directory after the script has run (successfully) now includes the following:
    tes493.tmp
    ~importtemplate~uvw2ve.idlk
    ~importtest~borbth.idlk
    ~importtest~myhstu.idlk
I am closing the document with the following:
    app.documents.item(0).close(SaveOptions.no);
I could understand if the document wasn't getting closed that I would see one .idlk file, but why 3?
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

    Hi again
does the '3 days ago' actually set the time? so '1 week ago' would be valid too?Ah, was afraid you might ask that
'3 days ago' does "set the time" as you say. '1 week ago' might work, but the man pages are not particularly helpful on what works and what doesn't. The find man page refers you to the cvs man page, which says:
However, cvs currently accepts a wide variety of other date formats. They are intentionally not documented here in any detail, and future versions of cvs might not accept all of them. But that gives an example of "1 hour ago" being valid, so I tried a few variations
wacking whole directories scares me... especially since there are live directories in here that I think shouldn't be deleted... can I take this part out?Yes, you can leave out the complete second "find" command if you wish. But applications shouldn't leave files or folders lying around in /tmp or /var/tmp and expect them to still be there when they come back!
excuse my ignorance what language is this? This is the Bourne Shell or more accurately bash. You can try reading the man page, but if you're interested I think you'd find an introductory shell scripting book a lot more readable!
My weekly hasn't run since Nov 18th but the Monthy and daily both say Dec 1st!!!No problem. My weekly hasn't run since Nov 15th. It will eventually get run, after about a week of cpu time (not sleeping).
Now that the periodic scripts are managed by launchd, rather than cron, they do eventually get run. Unless you are running a busy server with hundreds of users, rotating the log files is no big deal with today's typical disk sizes.

  • Spool File not complete when spool recipient recieves email

    Hi,
    This is my Issue...
We scheduled one of the Std SAP report (RLS10020/LX02). When defining the job, we have also specified a spool recipient and once the job was completed, the recipient got the spool as a html file. The spool actually had 15000 line items, but the html file received in the email had only 900 (file size ~1.5 mb).
When the spool is manually exported as a html file in the local m/c, it had the complete data of 15000 line items (file size of 26mb).
Any information on why the file from email is truncated would be appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance..

  • DVD Files not completely copied to hard drive

I recently bought a new Macbook and seem to be having problems with the DVD drive. I am trying to pull home movies off of DVD's and put into a format for Apple TV. I seem to have all the right software and the conversion process works well.
I tried using MPEG Stream Clip, directly from the DVD and then from the Hard Drive (.vob files I copied). However, when trying to "read" the DVD, I keep getting error messages. Also, when I try to copy the .vob files from the DVD, it stops copying at random points for the same DVD, for random files. Some work and some don't. I have to Force the Quit, reboot and start over, and it stops again, at a different point in the copying process. If I take the same DVD to my PC, it copies fine, so I do not suspect the physical DVD.
Could the Macbook DVD drive be reading the DVD too fast? Is there a way to slow it down if this is the case?
I also get the same type of problem when using MPEG Stream Clip. The DVD just seems to stop. I put the same DVD into the PC and run MPEG Stream Clip, and it goes through the whole process without a hitch.
Please help, as I really want to use this new Macbook and experience all it has to offer.

    In answer to your questions:
"how do i find out which 140 could not be converted"
Do a search on your pc (in the folder you told iTunes to look at) for all files containing the extension .wma. Now if you wish you can cut and paste them into another folder somewhere else on your hard drive.
You may find Wikipedia's page useful (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WindowsMediaAudio) as this lists the media players that can play wma audio files.
Another thing you may want to consider is converting your wma files to mp3 so they can be played in iTunes. There are lots of programs that can do this and many are free. Just do a search in Google.
If you have iTunes set up to add album and track information to music as it is imported to the library, this can sometimes result in giving you a misleading figure for how many tracks/albums you've got. The cause of this is described in the following technical document - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304389.
As an example I imported 'Classic Euphoria' (a dance album compilation). Each track on the cd is by a different artist. When I imported the cd into iTunes I expected it to create a one folder called ‘Classic Euphoria’ with all of the tracks contained within that folder. Instead, iTunes created a separate folder for each track as each track was by a different artist. If iTunes does this, then this is how you can end up with iTunes telling you, you have more albums than you were expecting! This may be what you’re experiencing. If you have any compilation CDs, follow the steps in the Technical Document above where it says ‘Albums with various artists’ and this will tidy up how your music is organised.
I hope all of this makes sense. Let me know how you get on.

  • Indesign CC file not completely opening on CS4

    Hello,
I created a document on Indesign CC and sent it to people with Indesign CS4. I sent the .idml file as well. However they are getting the message: "This document contains 74 missing links to sources that are missing." I understand that these are the 74 images I used in the document. They are also not seeing most of the fonts on the document even though it isn't any fancy font. I am now uploading the folder of images used to send to them. Will this itself allow them to see the document properly?
    Thank you

With CS4? I'd send a PDF, too because the chances of it looking totally
correct are slim. And I don't think CS4 had a document fonts feature so the
fonts would need to be installed.

  • Ethercat 3rd Party Device Profile XML File not complete

    Hi all,
I'm trying to use a Schneider LXM32 servo drive coupled to a NI cRIO 9074 Ethercat master.
The problem is that my LabVIEW project is not showing me the full device profile.
There are 4 available PDO for this device :
    1) Cyclic Synchronous Position
    2) Cyclic Synchronous Velocity
    3) Cyclic Synchronous Torque
    4) Free switching beetween 1) 2) or 3)
BUT, I only see the firts PDO parameters after importing the xml file. If I open the xml file manually, I see that all the PDO are available.
The xml file is available in this post.
Of course, I need to operate in the 4) mode, not the 1)
    Help me, please....

    Hi,
    Thank you for your answer.
I successfully modified the XML file of my Schneider drive :
Now I have a lot of others problems (I have made a request on NI France, I supposed you are the one who phoned me today).
    1) The XML file of my LTi DRiVE (another drive of the test bench) is done like this (see attachment):
    1) I can't move the Sm tag because it's already everywhere
    2) I don't understand why 4 devices are exposed.
Additionnaly, see below the LabVIEW project with this device :
    3) The I/O exposed for the 2 Devices (Schneider and Lti) are shared variables. But I want to poll these I/Os every 125µs. The scan engine can run at 1 ms. So, if a put a "percentage of each scan period" to 1% (the default value is 40%), will I be able to poll every 10 µs ?
    In this example :
    https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-11191
The scan period is 4 ms at the best, so with 40% of each scan period, it represents 1.6 ms.... am I correct ?
    4) Is it necessay to use NI SoftMotion (https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-11191) to get/set data to a motor drive ? Is it much more easy with NI SoftMotion ?
    Thanks,

  • Controls_ie5.js file not completely downloadable through reverse proxy

    Hi,
We have EP6.0 SP11 implemented in our production and we have setup Apache as reverse proxy server.
With RP, url for portal is http://salesportal.company.com/irj
    Internal URL would be http://mirag.company.com:50000/irj
We have set rewriting rule in Apache and proxy filter in portal web.xml.
System was working perfectly with SP09 with Reverse Proxy. Last week i upgraded the sytem to SP11 and after that i seem to get lot of error message refering to java script controls_ie5.js.
Problem is, when I login to portal with RP url it get java script error at lower left cornor of IE. But if I login with internal URL, I do not get any JS error and the server works seamless. We could find out that we are not able to download controls_ie5.js file using RP URL. Only partial file is getting downloaded to IE Temp. Internet Files folder.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
    best regards,
    Vishnu

Don't use the reverse proxy filter - it is deprecated for NW04 in favor of the http provider service (of the dispatcher) parameter "ProxyMappings". See help.sap.com for more details on ProxyMappings.
Do an http trace of the request for the .js, also check your compression, keep-alive, and chunking settings in your VisAdmin to see if something got out of whack on the upgrade.

Does the file’s or one of the folders’ name contain problematic letters (slash etc.)?

  • I Can Not Completely Delete A File In iTunes,Even After Complete Search

I need to completely clean out iTunes and all Album pictures. Some where there is a folder or file, that keeps putting back exactly what I have erased. I need to make my Itunes and all songs new, but the artwork always comes back, even when Ii erased the pictures. What file do I need to take out of the system or my home folder. Do not tell me the album artwork folder. Thats been done 50 times.
I have deleted all of Itunes files, preferences,(All). When I re install iTunes and put my music back in all the music artwork comes back. I deleted back up,
I want to restart fresh and no album artwork.

    Thanks ! but
No,because the images are from me. somewheres in the library in home folder or in the system library is a hitten file or a prerence, that keeps building my iTunes as it was before. I have completely deleted all and turned off all for the Apple Store. I have deleted iTunes and all related to it about 51 times now. I always find folders after in the artwork folder with many folders and a lot of numbers.
I sure hate to erase the whole hard drive. That file is not saying anything about iTunes either. I deleted the pictures for the albumns. Then I reinstall iTunes, went off line and still that crap comes up. It wont let me do a new iTunes.

  • "could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered. what can i do?

I've been working on a motion file in photoshop for my thesis and i tried opeining it today and it wont let me open the file. it says "could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered".
I've saved the file every 5 minutes or whenever I do work but now i cant even open it at all. I NEED HEEEEEELP PLEASE!

If it is in the forums (and actually, all over the place on the web) and it is a Photoshop issue in both Windows and Mac, I just assumed is.
The unexpected eof could be a hardware issue or possibly owed to individual set-ups as it is not an issue that plagues all (or even an ostensible majority of) users.
    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • Certain IDCS3 INX files will not open in CS2

I am trying to export a group of files from CS3 all the way to CS. Of the 52 files, 11 of my interchange files willl not open in CS2. Of the 41 files that were successfully converted to CS2, 13 of thhe next round of interchange files will not open in CS.
Does anyone have any suggestions for things that I can do to make these files work? For example, when I have had trouble in the past with converting native CS2 files, I have been able to get them to work by remove the master pages and ungrouping all of the objects. With these CS3 pages, the only thing that has worked has been copy pasting all objects into a new document, but I am praying for a better solution.
It would be helpful if anyone could suggest things for me to look out for. So far, I haven't been able to identify any commonalities between my "broken" files.
    Thanks!!!

You need to access the version from within InDesign itself, not from the finder. From Indesign CS, hold down the command key while pulling down InDesign>About InDesign. The correct version will be InDesign 3.01 (838). There were I think three versions of InDesign 301. The one with the (838) is the last one which will import the CS2 inx files correctly.
So while your updater may have completed the update successfully, you may not have the latest updater. You need the 3.0.1 April 2005 updater for Mac. (see #13)

Edit: And remember to turn off color management as Bob points out in #3.
