IOS5 seems to be missing Exchange Server contact access
in iOS4 I could open my contacts app, go to Groups and see Exchange Server Contacts (at the very bottom) where I could do a search for contacts on our exchange server that were not stored locally. I then had the option to call, email or SMS them.
in iOS5 this does not seem to be present, yet in Mail I can enter a persons name who is not in my address book but on on our exchange server and it will resolve them.
has this feature been removed from iOS5? It was one of the most useful features about the phone as a business user.
I can verify that the above workaround does indeed work. Once you delete the contacts in your default .PST on Outlook (and Empty "Deleted Items" folder), then you can search your global address list in Contacts>Groups.
This is a hack-y workaround, though. I would think many people have contacts in Outlook that aren't terribly relevant on a daily basis. For me, my Outlook contacts at work is akin to an old Rolodex business card file. It contains lots of cards that I want to keep but don't need very often (if ever). I put the ones that matter most on iPhone; the rest are kept "just in case."
It would be nice to have the ability to search the Global Address List on Exchange without syncing my Outlook contacts. There are thousands of fellow employees in the phone book and being able to look them up is great.
Consider this a vote for bringing back the iOS4 behavior. I didn't read the release notes, so perhaps this was in there. This is a signficiant change in the way iPhone handles Exchange, and a step backwards in my opinion.

Iphone 4S with iOS5 not connecting to our Exchange server.
Help!! i have upgraded to the new iphone with the ios5 and it will not sync with my exchange server! All other iphones in the office are iphone 4 and on the older os and they work fine. is there some magic settings that our IT guys need to change? the iphone 4s on AT&T works just fine!
I've found a fairly straight forward fix if you're having this problem, I'm sure it won't work for all but it will work for some. This is easier to try than restting your network settings and deleting your iCloud account, so try it first.
If you've already got an Exchange account set up but not working - you get the "Password Incorrect" message then; 1) delete the Exchange account. 2) set up a new Exchange account. 3) enter your Domain name. 4) continue set up as usual. My iPad 2 wifi/3G is connected to iCloud and my company Exchange server, I get the full Outlook suite email/contacts/calendar/etc.
I found that for some reason omitting the domain name during set up, even though Apple says it's optional, really isn't so that your device recognizes your Exchange server. Here's a quick tutorial I slapped up on You Tube. If this doesn't work then try the other methods.
Good luck. -
Set up email through exchange server - Contacts are now deleted.
I connected my phone, 3.1.3 to my work exchange server for email and outlook. Of course after doing so, I have now lost all my contacts. How can I retrieve them?
That's what happens when you share the same iCloud account. First, migrate his phone to a different iCloud account using a different ID (you can continue to share the same ID for other services such as iTunes if you want). To do this, on his phone save any photo stream photos that he wants to keep to his camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll. If he are syncing notes with iCloud that he wants to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to him so he can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in his new account. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; this won't effect your phone), provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted. Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create his new account and choose Merge to upload the data. After doing this, he can go to icloud.com and safely delete your data from his new account.
Then, if your contacts were on your phone when you last backed it up to iCloud, you can restore them by following Winston Churchill's user tip here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4841. This involves turning off your wifi after your phone restarts during the restore process, then saving the contacts on your phone and deleting them from iCloud prior to turning your wifi back on and allowing the restore process to finish. You can turn off your wifi either by pulling the cord out of the WAN port in your wifi router, or by simply unplugging it. -
Hello,
I have full representation of the Lync 2010 from Outside (i.e. Internet), but I still have small issue related to Lync-to-Exchange integration. Clients who is using Lync client from outside (i.e. Internet) cannot see Exchange-related information including
Call Logs, Voicemail and Calendar information.
Here is the experience and error messages that anyone will see when connecting to Lync server from Outside:
And this is the error message that will be displayed on Lync phone edition devices (a.g. Polycom CX-700) when connected from Internet:
If somebody can suggest what I can try I would appreciate this very much. I do believe that many other people have this issue as well.
Thanks!Hi, we had this issue and I ended up logging a MS support job. Turns out it was the TMG rule/Auth method causing the issue.
Job details:
**Symptom:
Lync Client External User are not able to retrieve the EWS URL
**Troubleshooting:
• We found External users are not able to Retrieve the EWS information in the Lync Client .
• We found the below error in the ETL logs.We found for EWS request we are getting the 401 response
HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized ( The server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web server is denied. Contact the server administrator. )
• TMG need pass through Authentication
Public names are autodiscover.domain.com and Outlook anywhere External FQDN and paths are /ews/* and /autodiscover/*, OAB/*
Users is All Users, and Delegation is "No delegation but client may authenticate directly" on the corresponding tabs of the publishing rule.
This changes is required for Lync Client as Lync Client does not work well with this BASIC authentication on TMG .
• After TMG engineer changed this settings in the TMG users are able to see EWS information.

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen (model MC544LL), running iOS 5.1.1
My Contacts and email synchronize with the corporate Exchange server of my employer.
I use Outlook 2007 (Windows) on my Desktop.
If I create a contact in Outlook 2007, it synchs to the iPod.
If I modify that contact on the iPod, it synchs back to the Exchange server.
All that works great.
However!
If I create a Contact on the iPod, it never syncs to the exchange server. It is only available on my iPod.
I do not see contacts in Outlook, that were created on the iPod.
I only discovered this today. I'm not sure how many contacts I created on the iPod that do not exist in Outlook. (I have hundreds of contacts).
It is a most vexing problem. I hope that someone may have a solution.Searching the site more, I found this link to be very helpful.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2047996?start=0&tstart=0
I did not find a way to move the contact to the Exchange server directly, but I found out how to find the locally created contacts and then I could email the contacts one by one, to my Outlook email, then add them to the Exchange server contacts. -
Merging contact groups on Iphone 3GS and sharing this with exchange server
I`ve got one for you
I`ve got a recently purchased Iphone, that I`ve just set up.
Everything works fine.
BUT, I first uploaded my contact from my previous Nokia from a private mail-account that I had used for back up for my old phone.
Then I connected my Iphone to my outlook-mail on my exchange server at work.
This means that I have got 2 groups in my contact list on my Iphone, which is ok.
Yesterday I cleaned up my contact list on my phone in the "all contact" section on my phone. Deleting double registered contact cards and copying mail-adress or phone number from one of the double registered contact card to the other ( as one was from my previous phone and one was from my mail. )
So now my contact list in "all contacts" are perfect.
The question is, can I transfer this perfect contact list over to my outlook-account on the exchange server so this, which will be my only back up log, is the same as on my phone.
The contacts which was already taken from the outlook-account has been updated as they should, but I had quite a few contact from my phone ( approximately 480 ) and I did not take into account when I "cleaned up" yesterday if I was deleting the contact card from my old phone of the contact card from the exchange server.
Hopefully one of you has got a solution to my problem
Message was edited by: JT80No - the iPhone keeps Exchange server contacts separate from 'local' contacts stored on the phone (synced via iTunes, imported from a SIM card, etc.).

Syncing iPhone 4 with Exchange Server
Is there any way to synch an iPhone 4 with an Exchange Server contact list and calendar without overwriting all iPhone contacts and calendar entries. In other words, "Can they be merged rather than overwritten?"
Thanks Kilted Tim,
After an update of iTunes and the iOS, a good backup, and a leap of faith, I figured it out earlier this morning.
I had a bad experience when I first got my phone. I did the same thing, syncing with the exchange server and it overwrote all of my contacts and calendar items. It was a long three months trying to rebuild them all. I'm glad to see this option was opened to users choice.

Using iPhone with a Microsoft Exchange Server
Hi
Is it possible to connect the iphone to a Microsoft Exchange Server to access your emails?
ThanksRyan Simmons,
Exchange's ActiveSync protocol which requires licensing a propietary protocol from Microsoft is what you are asking for.
IMAP is one additional port open, and can be encrypted with SSL. If they are concerned about an additional port open, VPN is an option. Then only when the VPN is active will the corporate email be available. The other argument that has been advanced on security is on Windows Mobile devices the server can ask for remote wipes of data from the phone. The iPhone only caches emails, and goes back to the server to download them again when you go to view them again. If you change the password for the account on the server, the same results occur - the email is not available on the device the next time that account is accessed from the iPhone.
This article contains an outline of the things needed on the server to support:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307313
This article outlines the VPN protocols supported by the iPhone:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305723
Hope this helps,

I'm pretty sure I just discovered an issue that needs addressing.
To start, I have 1000+ contacts on my employer's MS Exchange server (with an Outlook client). I'm fairly proud of them, because of all the work I've put into them in terms of removing dupes, eliminating empties, etc. etc. etc. It's high maintanence.
Ever since I got my Pre, it's been grouping a whole slew of contacts (573 to be exact) under some random master contact. For a while, everything was under the IRS, and whenever someone dialed my phone, "IRS" popped up. Yikes! For a while, I was deleteing the master contact & remaking it, but the 573 would just group under some other seemingly random contact. These contacts are completely unrelated (at least to a human, they are). Currently, the master contact card is a guy named "Richard".
Well, I'm pretty sure I found out that what these contacts have in common: they have no email address. Outlook (once again) screws everything up by politely populating the empty email address field with "[No email address found]" (quotes not included). The Pre identifies these contacts as having the same email address, and therefore, eligible to be grouped by Synergy.
2 questions:
Microsoft, why do you do stupid crap like this?! You absolutely ruin things with verbosity. A missing piece of data tells the user as much as a present piece of data. You don't have to actually *say* "This piece of data is not present". It's obvious.
and
Palm, why didn't you know that Microsoft does stupid crap like this?! Don't you know the success of your product, maybe your company, is on the line?
I can't be the only one with this problem. Reply to this thread if this rings any bells for anyone else.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)I ended up using the column view trick. Column view -> sort by email address -> click & delete every "[No email address found]" entry. In my experience, I've found that just putting in the digital elbow grease takes less time than using things like scripting.
I'm just sad that these things don't get designed well to begin with. I've got other very basic gripes about the Pre. I'm told it works much better with a Google account. I'd love to jump on that bandwagon, but work is using Exchange. You simply must must must work with Exchange sever since so many big corporations have drunk Bill Gates' Koolaid. But to provide buggy Exchange compatibility is risky, even moreso when your company's future depends on the success of your current device.
Palm is clearly getting into bed with Google at the expense of Microsoft. I suppose that's the way I'd go too, but for the time, Palm's buggy Exchange support sets up RIM to keep running the table with Blackberrys. If they had just done Exchange right, they would have double the sales they have now, and Apple and RIM would really have something to worry about. -
Mail hanging and messages missing content from exchange server
I have to force quit Mail at least once or twice a day. Seems to be triggered by my MacBook Pro Retina going into sleep mode and then, upon wake-up, Mail will not respond (shows spinning color wheel) and requires a forced quit. Separately (and not triggered by sleep mode) I have occasional messages that come in missing their content. If I restart Mail, the contents come in and all is fine. The same messages, however, come into my iOS devices the first time without a problem, so this is only on my MacBook. My mail is hosted by Rackspace on Exchange Server 2011. I am a JV customer and called JV for this issue and they suggested I contact Rackspace to see if there are any known issues on their side. Did that and Rackspace was unaware of any. Any suggestions on how I might further diagnose this problem?
Thank you! I will do this and report back. In the mean time, if it is useful, below is a copy of the force quit report from most recent hang...

I run both a MAC and a PC with two different mail clients Entourage vs. Outlook. I have never had a problem with the clients syncing with the Exchange server until I did an archive of all emails in outlook that were older than this year. Now some subfolders have disapeared on the PC and the Exchange server but still show up in Entourage. How can I resync Entourage to the Exchange and have Exchange server "accept" the Entourage folders as correct?
Also I use an Iphone and backup to the icloud. So why did my contacts disapear from the iphone and are not restored via icloud? The missing contacts also disapeared from exchange.
Iphone 4s ver 5.1.1
Exchange 2003
MacBook Pro OSX 10.5.x ( I think - since the finder->about this Mac button doesnt work)
Entourage 12.3.3
Thanks so much.

I've been adding a lot of contacts on my iPhone lately and now I wanted them synced to the Address Book on my Mac. This just wouldn't work for me, none of the new contacts would turn up on the Mac, no matter what I tried. After pulling my hair plenty it turns out I had the iPhone set up to sync contacts with the Exchange server from work instead of with my Mac.
Question is, how do I get the contacts from either the Exchange account or the iPhone into my Mac?
There doesn't seem to be a way of changing, on the iPhone, to which account an already added contact should sync. Or is there?
I must say it's pretty ******** that you cannot just choose to import all contacts from the iPhone to the Mac. Or, at the very least, have the option to choose to what account you want to sync a new contact WHEN YOU'RE ADDING IT. As you can choose between all your calendars when adding an appointment.Old Phone to New Phone

Contacts and calendar items disappear when exchange server is off
Hi All
I've been having this problem for a few weeks now and it's most frustrating. My iphone is setup to sync over the air to our corporate exchange server. It seems that when the server is down for repair/patching ALL my contacts and calendar items disappear from my iphone. This doesn't seem to happen if the phone is out of signal?
I know that I can sync directly with Outlook, however this would then mean that the phone is only updated when synced with my laptop at work. If I sync both over the air AND with Outlook, I get duplicates of everything in my calendar.
I'm not restoring my iphone to factory defaults to get rid of the duplicates and go back to over the air sync only.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get calendar and contacts to work "offline" when the exchange server is down?
Main PC is running Windows 7 and exchange is 2007. This problem is only recent, I think in the last month of two. Nothing has changed other than the last few firmware updates from Apple.hi, cheers for the info. That would make sense, however how come when I'm out of signal and not connected to wifi, the data doesn't also disappear as that too would render the server "unavailable".
Is there a way to make the iphone keep a copy of the data much the same as "offline mode" in Outlook where you can still browse your email, calendar and contacts when the server is offline, and it picks up where it left off when the server is available again?
I appreciate this may not be a "problem" as such, but is frustrating as all my contacts and calendar live in Outlook and I can't function without them

How can I back up Contacts synced from an Exchange server into iCloud?
Hi everybody. I would like to back up into iCloud my Contact (and Calendars too) which I have previously synced to the device ( that is an iPad air running iOS 8.2.1) from an Exchange server. The green flags in Settings / ICloud are duly switched on but no contact will appear under Groups/all iCloud. Is this feature feasible at all or is there something missing in the procedure I follow ? I'll appreciate any clues. Piero
Hi Brendan. Thanks for your clue but unfortunately that did not solve the problem. Prior to posting my query I had already checked out the article you're referring me to (whose URL is http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3605). It may well be that I'm not being crystal clear owing to my far from perfect English but the whole point is precisely that I'm not able to import contacts which ALREADY appear on my iPad - being the outcome of syncing my remote MS Exchange account with the device - into iCloud. The procedure described in the quoted article simply doesn't work (for that matter, no such Setting sign pops up under ICloud contacts). In fact, it appears that the only contacts which I'm able to keep under iCloud are those which I directly create from scratch within iCloud Group itself. Since I'm likely to have my MS outlook account ( which is mirrored into a MS Exchange one for remote usage) forcibly deleted in one month time or so, I started worrying about how to keep my contacts alive/ intact after that deletion. Hope the issue got clearer now ... Cheers, Piero.

Contacts/Calendars Synched to Both MobileMe & MS Exchange Server?
I use MobileMe for my personal email and MS Exchange Server for my business (Lotus Notes) email accounts, nand this arrangement seems to work just fine.
I use MobileMe for my personal contacts and calendars, but haven't synced any of my Lotus Notes contacts/calendars to my iPad as I'm concerned I'll lose all of my personal contacts/calendar data if I do.
Is it possible to sync contacts/calendars with both MobileMe and MS Exchange Server sources?Hi,
Did you get any NDR message now when you send a email to outside? And vice versa.
In addtion,I recommend you telnet to port 25 to test SMTP communication.
If any question, please feel free to post here.
Thanks.
