Ip address from mac address

Hi,
I need to retrieve the ip address of a network element knowing its mac/physical address. I didn't found any standard class in the sun packages that allows me to do that. Does anybody have an idea ? I'd rather not use any command line tricks.
Any idea is welcome, thanx

The MAC address belongs to a network layer that is not directly accessible to Java. Java builds on the higher level protocols as TCP and UDP, which are additionally not specific to the network implementation. Another alternative to command line tricks is to wrap native code through the JNI cleanly into Java classes. However, sacrificing platform independence.

  • Obtain IP address from Mac address

    Hi all,
Is ARD capable of obtaining IP addresses from mac addresses?
    Please advise.

ARD's System Overview can display IP addresses and MAC addresses for computers it manages. If you're asking whether ARD can scan a network for a particular MAC address and return the IP address for a computer that's not in ARD's list of managed computers, then no, it can't (at least not by any method I know of). ARD is really not a network scanning/management application; it's for managing Mac workstations.

  • Transfer contacts from Mac Address Book to PC Outlook

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to transfer from Mac Address Book to Outlook on a PC? I have tried exporting the list as a .CSV, then importing it, however it only imported 1 contact, not the rest that were saved on the vcard. Your help is very much appreciated!!! Thanks
    Josh

Address Book does not export a .CSV file. I twill export a vCard file, however, by selecting all of your contacts from the contact list then drag it all to the Desktop. You will end up with a single file containing all the vCards in your AB database. Now, if your PC version of Outlook can import a vCard file then you're all done. If not, then you have some work ahead of you. You can find another PC mail application that can import vCards and export an Outlook compatible file or try one of the following:
    AddressBook to CSV Exporter
    Lustro
    vCard Exporter
    Export Address Book
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

There are many different options built in to the Rules pane.
    For example,
If the built in options do not meet your needs, you can create a script. For another "for example" see this discussion for a way to return unwanted mail to the sender:

  • How do I set up email addresses from my address book?

How do I set up email addresses from my address book?

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking.  If you are coming from pre-Mountain Lion, then Address Book has changed to Contacts.
    Open Contacts.
Select an Account in the group list, if you want the contact in a specific group. If Groups aren't showing, you can display them from the View menu.
Click the Add card button ( + ).
Enter the information for the contact.
If you need multiple entries for a particular field type, a new blank entry will show up below the one you are adding.
If you need other fields, use the Card menu to Add a new field type.
If you want to change the default fields available when you create a new card, choose Edit Template…
If you have sent emails to someone and you want to get that address to add to a Contact, use the Previous Recipients command in the View menu in Mail.
If you need to add a new Group, hover the cursor over the account name, and a + button will appear. Click it.

  • Cannot add email addresses from my address book

I can send one email using my address book by clicking "send email" in the drop down menu. I cannot add multiple email addresses from the address book - each time I clid "send email" an entirely new message is craeated. I don't necessarily need a group. I am using new mail in Lion, mail 5.2. "To" no longer is an active link to the address book. Is there a way to make it work like mail worked before this upgrade?

I upgraded to Maverick and since then I cannot paste an email address from my address book into the "To:" window. Why not?

You won't be able to change your rescue email address until you can answer your questions, you will have to contact Support in the country where you and your iTunes account to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the steps on this page to update your rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620

  • Is there a way to transfer contacts from Mac Address Book to an iPhone?

I tried posting this before but no one answered.  I dont currently have an iphone (or any smartphone).  I do have a Mac and I have my contacts in the Mac Address Book (not in an email client like Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail)
I want to know if I get an iphone is there an easy way to transfer contacts (names, addresses, emails etc) and especially HOME/WORK/CELL Phone numbers from the Address Book on the Macbook Pro to the iphone....
I would think there's a way to do that since both the Mac and the iphone are Apple products....but no one has been able to give me a straight answer on this...except to transfer contacts from Gmail but my contacts are not in Gmail
So if I get an iphone (or probably any phone) do I have to manually enter all my contacts each time?  I thought that it would be easier with an iphone than an Android or other smartphone.

I appreciate the link but wasnt really looking to go through a 100+ page iphone guide.  From what I saw, it said what other people have told me - which is it will sync contacts from Google (Gmail) or Yahoo...so that doesnt mean it will sync contacts directly from an Android phone's contact list.  All the manual said was you sync thru itunes.
It looks like what I should do at some point is manually input all my contacts into a new "clean and unused" Gmail account...Unless there was an easy way to transfer my Mac Address Book to a Gmail Account.
It seems like if you have contacts in a Gmail account, it will be easy to transfer anywhere.
Im starting to wonder if an Android would be bette than an iphone anyway.  Considering the nightmare time Ive had with a Mac in just a few months, Im surprised Im even still considering another Apple product.
    Thanks

  • How To Export from Mac address book to CSV file

In Mac's address book: How do you export a highlighted group of *contacts to a cvs file* (so that I can import in groups by my categories into Google contacts- that way it is easier to sort/designate the contacts one I get the contacts there into Google).
I can sync them all- but then I'd have to put them into their categories one at a time, there are too many...
    thx missy
(I'm used to ms office and pc's)

Okay, *I got this issue worked out;here's how.* (Unfortunately the mac app AB2CSV doesn't open up to the screens it's supposed to in order to choose and convert or save contacts to a csv file and did crash my address book- which was very scary to see my 1533 contacts vanish!! )
Luckily somehow I had made an archive file of them all and got them back into my mac Calendar unscathed -so I lucked out...
Today at my local Apple Store in Nashville *I was shown a better way-and I'm glad to share this with you*:(They also set up my mobile me and my itouch to sync my contacts and emails too-plus got my contacts synced up to my GoogleApps acnt- so now I am in the clouds, backed up, and liberated-in spite of myself!!)
*iWorks Numbers* works similar to msExcel, so you *open up Numbers* ;get on to a *new blank page*;also *open Address Book* and highlight the contacts from your address book and *drag them right on to your Numbers page*; like magic it looks like an excel spread sheet (you can choose the columns/headers you want to use ie name, phone #,street, city, email, etc even the notes); then you go up to *Share in the menu*; *choose csv file*; and *save it*...Thank you Apple store Green Hills!! you saved me today!!

  • Retrieve Addresses from .Mac

Somehow my iMac dumped all the addresses in my address book. Nowhere to be found on the computer. I backed up to .Mac account with iSynch but how do I download them back to my desktop?

    1badfrog,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
How to reset .Mac Sync has a step-by-step procedure for resetting Sync data.
Your circumstances dictate that you should/must modify Step #5. In your case it should read: Click the left arrow button so that the orange arrow flows from the .Mac icon to the Computer icon in the window, and the text above the icons says "On this computer sync info from .Mac."
    ;~)
