Month or two ago here close by, I saw not the IP it connects to, but the URL.
Some question about Firewall, Server, or like things.

  • Why does it say invalid address when I try to update apps

It keeps saying it's invalid, but it's not

    Just figured out mine.
They are not just using full address validation against the bank/credit card record.  They seems to be using USPS validated addresses.  So Bank/CC Address -> USPS validation -> source address, compare to iPhone/iPad Address -> USPS validation -> target address. As such, matching the addresses between iphone/ipad and the bank/cc record letter for letter is actually NOT necessary and as some of you have tried, doesn't.
Like mine for example, I use a PO Box as mailing address.  The number needs to be the full number. The USPS version of my po box address actually has a couple of leading digits that are normally not relevant but that becomes necessary now.  So my iphone address actually has extra digit prefix than my cc record.
Here's one thing you might want to try:
This link goes to Experian QAS website.  It has a free USPS address verification tool.  Enter your address (no personal and or demographic info is needed) and see what the USPS sanitized version looks like.  Change your phone to match and see if that alleviate the problem.
    http://www.qas.com/address-software/free-address-lookup.htm
If you worry about privacy, as a test, put in your neighbor's address, you might gleen some info on why what you have on your iphone/ipad is not validating.
Disclaimer: I do not work for Experian and receive no compensation posting this link.

  • Wireless printer offline/ink levels

Whenever I try to print to my printer wirelessly the printer always is offline. It is shown as the default printer but offline. I can print to it via USB.
I recently reinstalled the software  and it worked ok (online).  When I next go to print the printer is offline again. Done this twice so far.  Apart from reinstalling the softwareevery time  is there any thing else I can do or do I just use a usb cable?
I am using a HP desktop computer and two ASUS laptops, and the blue wireless light on the printer is glowing steadily. It is offline to all computers. I have run the HP print and scan doctor a couple of times but it still remains offline
Is there any method/program to view the ink levels of the printer? I could not find any on the installation CD.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    John

Wow, I am overwhelmed by the number of responses received to my question. By reading these forums it seems trying to connect HP printers wirelessly is fraught with problems.
As for knowing the ink levels, I do not get any onscreen messages saying the ink is low or has run out, the control panel on the printer reports an ink catridge as half full when it is actually empty. The only way I know an ink cartridge is empty is when a colour stops printing.
I can not use the printer's copy or scan functions unless the computer is turned on and aconnection has been established by a usb cable. I am sick of having to update the printers IP address if I have to restart my modem because the 'Updat IP address' software does not work, and the HP printer diagnostic software, when run reports that the software for the wireless setup is incomplete, and gives me the option of downloading the needed software but the download always fails to complete.
Well lesson learnt, time to dump the HP printer and purchase a more up to date printer that will connect by wireless and has basic functions such as a way to determine ink levels. Epsom printers seem to be capable of these functions and have a good reputation.
    So good bye HP.

  • Network connection to HP P3015dn printer

I have a problem with several layers to it.
After MANY years of service my HP laserjet 2100 series printer started to have feed issues so I thought it was time to update.  Bought the P3015dn printer as a companion to the color laserjet.  Printer had issues with tray select, auto select and was irritating to get to work as needed but finally sucessful using the USB connection.  Now the big issue.  When I ran the set up software that comes with the printer and chose network installation the software found the printer right away, I acepted the setting and continuned.  Was able to configure the printer properly to print from the main office computer so installed the software on the computer in the shipping department.  So far so good.  Later I discovered my main computer was off line from the internet which has never happened before.  Did some trouble shooting and discovered the Gateway IP was missing from my network card configuration.  Re entered the IP address and immidiatly had internet back.  Thirty seconds later internet is gone again.  Checked the setting for the adapter in IPv4 and gateway is missing agin.  All the other settings are intact, just the gateway address is missing.  Repeated the process again and thirty seconds later address is missing again.  Repeat and repeat.  Not going to test the defanition of insanity.  Went and checked the computer in the shipping department and same problems.  I have a combination of (26) static IP nodes on my network, a mixture of wired and wireless and only these two computers were having an issue.  Since this was the next morning after adding the network installation for the printer I didn't connect the relationship right away.  Short version....finally narrowed the testing down to disconnecting the new HP printer and problem went away, adapter would hold it's gateway IP settings, reconnect printer and problem returns.  More research and discovered the printer looked to be configured using IPv6 setting.  My network is all all IPv4.  Dissabled IPv6 in the printer and programmed the printer for static IP IPv4
Problem now is, the printer will NOT print using IPv4 setting (yes....the setting are correct).  I can ping the printer just fine but when test pages are sent to the printer I have never had a page sucessfully print.  I reran the network installation and directed it to the static IP address, software saw the printer, installed just fine, shows the printer in devices, but can NOT print to it.
Can anyone add insight as to WHY the printer doesn't print using IPv4?
PS....when I was able to print, when the printer warms up just before printing is has a LOUD low pitch growling squeel and after printed makes a loud humming buzz for about 20 to 30 seconds.   ??? Normal ???

    DIYguy,
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .
    I hope this helps.

  • New Features for OWB 9.2

Mark Van De Wiel mentioned yesterday in this forum that OWB 9.2 is now available at http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/warehouse/content.html . From the version number it would appear that this is a major new release, and it's a separate install rather than a patch on OWB9.0.4.
    Would Mark, Igor or Shauna be able to give us some background on the new features in this new release? From quickly looking at the release notes they would appear to be;
    - Correlated Commit (committing changes across all targets uniformly)
    - Ability to create public database links
    - Direct PEL (removes the need for temporary tables when exchanging partitions)
    - Enhanced Flat File Support
    - Mapping Debugger
    - Incorporation of ETL functionality previously found in standalone Pure*Integrate
    - Metadata change management using the OWB GUI rather than using OMB*Plus
    - Multiple Name and Address Software Providers
    - Name/Address Wizard
    - New Public API for OWB
    - Better support for Real Application Clusters
    - Advanced Repository Security and Audit options
    - Support for MITI metadata bridges to third-party products
It would be good to know the thinking behind these and what areas they think will be particularly of interest to us. Also, has anything been removed or changed that we've got used to using?
Also, any day now (fingers crossed) the patch to make the OLAP functionality in OWB9.0.4 work (the 9i 9.2.0.3.x patch?) should be out - will this work with OWB9.2 as well?
    Many thanks
    Mark Rittman

    Hi Mark,
While I'm not in your list of people to respond I figure I give it a go anyways :-)
The list of features you mentioned is a nice summary. One of the main release themes is data quality as you noticed. Apart from changes to the name&address functionality we also added the advanced matching and merging into this release. So you can use custom rules to match and merge data. This also allows you to do things like householding for customer data records. In essence we have now completed the integration of Pure*Integrate into Warehouse Builder.
The mapping debugger is another big thing. This allow you to walk through your mappings and see in detail what happes to the data.
The metadata change management is now in the UI. THis means there is now object level version management in Warehouse Builder via the UI. You can also compare versions and get a difference report.
As you mentioned there are a number of smaller and bigger features next to this. The idea for this release is to make OWB a top Data Quality product and allow you to do your ETL and DQ in one tool. Apart from that we have added usability features (debugger, N&A wizard) and we have added some features to solve specific problems.
Especially the corelated commit is interesting in that respect. You can now, in a map with multiple targets control the commit, and choose to either commit all targets or none, or commit them individually (current behavior).
As usual there is a lot more, as this is indeed a major release. Keep an eye on OTN for more collateral regarding the new features. We are currently updating the site to reflect the new stuff.
On the OLAP patch, both 9.0.4 and 9.2 will work equally well with the OLAP patch (when it is available). In 9.2 we added some small thing around composites. More about that when there is an OLAP patch to test this one on in a customer site.
I hope this answered the question, if not let me know.

  • Mac Mini 2009 vs Leopard Server

    Hi all...
I am hoping to get to the bottom of this asap, as I am looking forward to just getting on with things.
The issue is installation of Mac OS X Leopard Server 10.4 on a Mac Mini (Early 2009)
First of all.... Yes I have read the *Article HT3479* http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3479 and yes it allows you too boot your mini, however....
When you go through the installation process and are entering your information, there are several key steps missing from the interview[Server Assistant]. The main question missing is, "What type of installation" Standard, workgroup or advanced.
Another key set of questions missing is Network Setup.
So suffice to say the HT3479 does not address the issue i am experiencing.
Here are the methods I have attempted to use to install Server on this mini...
    HT3479. {The result is that I can not run Server Preferences... Apparently the computer is in advanced mode and can not be reverted to standard}
The above method has been tried in the following examples...
    * Install Mac OS X Client (10.5.6 from client disk)
+ Apply updates (at the time it was pre 10.5.7 so up to and including all updates to that time10.5.6)
+ Run Server installation from 10.5.4 Server Disk
    + Apply patches before rebooting
+ Run through shorted setup questions (See above)
+ check for updates before launching anything
    * Install Mac OS X Client (10.5.6 from client disk)
    + Don't apply updates
+ Run Server installation from 10.5.4 Server Disk
    + Apply patches before rebooting
+ Run through shorted setup questions (See above)
+ check for updates before launching anything
I tried the above methods several times having no success
I contacted Apple support where I was asked to just try it again! and was told that nobody else was having these issues.
Great... 60Gb download capped reached so I had to wait for this month to continue.
10.5.7 update was released recently, so i thought I may be in luck.
So this month I have tried the above methods several times with the same outcomes.
In desperation I tried the following method...
    Boot the Mac Mini in Target Disk Mode and running installation from an iMac targeting the disk in the mac mini. {The result is that during Boot up and Shut down verbose mode is invoked and there are numerous error messages in the log files, secondly I am experiencing several issues with DNS names etc.... won't accept SERVERNAME.local}
Anyway, this method gave me the most joy but still far from ideal.
Seemingly unfair it let me glimpse what leopard server can do, and yes i like what i see, but I really need to be able to install leopard server normally and have no issues.
    *Hardware Configuration*.
    Mac Mini (Early 2009) A1283 (2.0\1X1G\120\SD\AP\BT)
Upgraded RAM from 1GB to 4 GB (yes it works fine, full hardware test performed)
Upgraded HDD from 120GB to 320GB 7200 rpm (Caviar Black)
    Samsung 22" monitor
Apple Keyboard (Aluminium with keypad) A1243
    Apple Mightymouse A1152
    Network
    ADSL modem PPPOE
    Apple Airport Extreme
Wired direct from rear of AEBS to Mac Mini
AEBS setup in DHCP, but reserved IP address for Mac Mini's Mac Address
    Software
Mac OS X Server Version 10.5.4 [0Z691-6214-A] (Full retail version)
    Mac OS X 10.5.6 Disk version 1.0 [2Z691-6344-A]
I am sure that others are experiencing the same issue, as many have listed similar issues to the above, however many are open ended with no resolution. I hope that if a solution is found or it is determined that there is an issue that news can be posted by apple so others are better informed before investing money in both products hoping to achieve a working network server.

I recently purchased a Mac Mini 320 GB model and OS X Server (Leopard). Before I purchased them I asked a couple of the Genius guys if I could run OS X Server normally on one of the new 320GB Minis? And the concensus among several Apple Store employees, was that yes, there should be no problem whatsoever...
So I bought the pair, and went through the install process numerous times, and was never able to get the standard installation until I resorted to dire measures which I have outlined below.
I tried to boot from OS X Server 10.5.4 on several machines at the Apple Store, and it does not boot any of the new machines (as of 2009.06.02). The normal install (use the os x server disk to boot) works perfect on an iMac 2.4GHz machine, and on a G4 Mirrored Drive machine, and on both of these machines the process is simple. Pop in the os x server disk, go get a sandwich, come back, answer a few questions, you are up and running, and life is great. It doesn't get any better...
The problem with the newer machines is that you must install the standard os x, get all the updates, insert os x server disk, and install os x server. The unfortunate part is that by the time you install OS X Server several items have already been set, OS X Server senses this and skips about 17 screens that allow for {"standard", "workgroup", "enterprise"} setup, and goes right into the "enterprise" mode.
One of the big conveniences with the standard setup is that quite a few things are created for you. Once you use the "standard" setup you can promote the installation to the "enterprise" mode by opening it with "Server Admin" which provides infinitely more control, but using "standard" setup to start with simplifies life considerably.
If you figure out how to do the "standard" install bear in mind that when it asks you for your administrative user account info it really wants :
    name : Directory Admin
    shortname : diradmin
    password : astrongpassword
This will allow you to go from LOCAL to LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 when using Workgroup Manager
When it asks if you want add more users you can add one user, the "Local Admin" :
    name : Local Admin
    shortname : localadmin
password : astrongpassword (you will have to reset this password after you login as diradmin)
You can reset the "Local Admin" password via "System Preferences ---> Accounts"
and you can create the other users via the Workgroup Manager ---> LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 domain once you get DNS and Open Directory working.
if you use "standard" or "enterprise" the first thing to setup is DNS, everything else depends on DNS being configured correctly. "standard" really shines here because it won't let you screw up DNS.
You will need private DNS even if you have a provider handle public DNS for you.
If you are using standard you will be asked for, and can enter something like the following :
    domain : crystal-palace.mac.private
    machine : crystal-palace
if you are doing the "enterprise" mode you will also have to enter crystal-palace.mac.private in one more field,
Each machine will have a fixed PRIVATE IP address in the form of "192.168.1.n" and a "Computer Name" that was unique within the ZONE (the group of machines) via "System Preferences ---> Sharing".
Once you switch to the "enterprise" mode you can add more machines (using the "Computer Name" above) with their respective private ip addresses.
If you are using the "enterprise" mode, You want to setup Open Directory initially as "standalone", once that is working promote it to "Directory Master" via the "Settings" Tab. If you are using the "standard" mode, the Open Directory is setup automatically as "Directory Master" but there doesn't seem to be any way to add to the DNS, I think you have to use "Directory Utility" to do this. But if you've gotten this far it is easier to promote the setup mode to "enterprise" with "Server Admin".
I have a 1TB drive partitioned into 8 logical drives , the first seven standard partitions are named BUP_1 through BUP_7 and are provide 93 GB each. They are setup as test drives. The last partition is named TM_1 which is used for Time Machine backups and it provides close to 280 GB of backup storage.
On the first partition, I installed OS X 10.5.7 along with some basic applications that I normally use. I then created a dmg installer that I saved to TM_1 using disk utility and used that to install the image on the remaining six partitions (BUP_2 ... BUP_7).
The seven standard partitions then have OS X 10.5.7, which I basically use as test drives. It is here that I attempted different things trying to get this to be a simple deal. If one attempt didn't work I moved on to the next partition...
The BUP_n already have USERNAME setup as localadmin, not admin CHECK step ( 4 ) below. Also note that the dscl commands all have a dot following them.
Steps that worked for me, that allowed me to select the setup mode for os x server.
( 1 ) Boot mac into single user mode by holding down (CMD-S) during startup until you see text scrolling on the screen.
if the text on the screen stops, and you don't get the "root # " cursor, you may have to hit return once in order to get it. Once you get the root cursor you will need to enter the following commands very carefully. On the paths you can type part of the path and hit tab for auto completion. Everything is case sensitive...
    NOTICE that USERNAME needs to be substituted with the correct shortname from step ( 4 ) in steps ( 6 ), ( 7 ) and ( 8 )
    ( 2 ) $ mount -uw /
    ( 3 ) $ /bin/launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist &
    ( 4 ) $ dscl . -list /Users
    ( 5 ) $ rm -R /Library/Preferences/
    ( 6 ) $ rm -R /Users/USERNAME/
    ( 7 ) $ dscl . -delete /Users/USERNAME
    ( 8 ) $ dscl . -delete /Groups/admin GroupMembership USERNAME
    ( 9 ) $ rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    ( 10 ) $ rm -R /var/db/dslocal
    ( 11 ) $ mkdir -p /var/db/dslocal/nodes
    ( 12 ) $ cp -Rp /System/Library/DirectoryServices/DefaultLocalDB/Default /var/db/dslocal/nodes/
    ( 13 ) $ cp -Rp /System/Library/DirectoryServices/DefaultLocalDB/dsmappings /var/db/dslocal/
    ( 14 ) $ passwd
( 15 A) $ shutdown -h now (if you want to reboot outside of single user mode)
    OR
( 15 B) $ exit (if you want to continue booting in single user mode)
I think that to make this an easy install, there should be a small script from Apple that you can run once OS X, and OS X Server are installed, and updated, that reset everything to pristine, so that after running the script everything that needs to be removed, or reset is done so that you can go through the normal 17 screens that allow for simple setup of OS X Server, just like if you had been able to boot from the OS X Server disk.
The answer I got from Apple Support is that when new machines come out it takes a while to get the correct drivers and release an installer disk for OS X Server. The unfortunate part is that there is no simple way to allow the installer to select which mode they need for the particular installation. They are forced to take the "enterprise" mode...
I am not SURE whether the steps I have outlined above cover everything, that is why I am suggesting that if would be far more accurate if Apple provided an installer script when they have NON_BOOTABLE versions of OS X Server Installer.
After three weeks and about 150 hours worth of work, I finally gave up and took the Mac Mini and OS X Server back and bought another iMac 24. Whenever a newer version OS X Server that is bootable on the newer machines comes out, I will get it another shot...
The guy I dealt with at the Apple Store kept saying, it works, you're just not installing it correctly. He also said "I've installed OS X Server on a Mini". But everytime I asked him, "Was it a new new Mini?" and he would respond, "Well, NO!". I also asked him "Were you able to boot the Mini from the the disk ?", he responded "YES!"
I ran into some other issues, for example one night I shutdown the server, and the next morning none of the passwords would work, not even the root password. So I came up with the following, hope this helps.
    PROBLEM :
This morning for some reason the Mac Mini would not allow me to log in, neither as the Local Admin, nor as the System Admin. The database containing the login info must have become corrupted.
    FIRST LEVEL REPAIR ATTEMPT
I started the machine using the Apple Install DVD, holding the "C" key to force the CD to boot
Once the installer screen came up, hit return and select :
( 1 ) Menu Utilities -> Disk Utility -> Select the Drive -> Repair Permissions
( 2 ) Menu Utilities -> Disk Utility -> Select the Drive -> Repair Disk
( 3 ) Quit out of Disk Utility...
    ( 4 ) Menu Utilities -> Reset Password
( a ) Reset the password for the root user
( b ) Reset the password for the local admin user.
( 5 ) Quit out of Reset Password...
    ( 2 ) Menu Utilities -> Startup Disk
( 6 ) Select the correct disk to use for re-start.
    ( 7 ) Re-Start
( 8 ) I tried this several times, but could never get the new passwords to work after re-booting.
There must have still been some corruption in the database.
    SECOND LEVEL REPAIR ATTEMPT
( 10 ) reboot and to hold the CMD-S to boot into the single user mode.
At the root prompt, type in the following commands. I might have to hit return, if there is a white cursor that appears to be hung up waiting for input, just hit return, then you should see the root prompt.
    First try :
    ( 11 ) root # fsck -f
    ( 12 ) root # mount -uw
    ( 13 ) root # passwd
    ( 14 ) root # exit
( 15 ) when the login dialog appears try to login as root
( 16 ) if you can login, go to :
( a ) System Preferences -> Accounts and reset the password for the Local User in question.
    ELSE
    ( b ) Go to step ( 20 ) below
    THIRD LEVEL REPAIR ATTEMPT
This is the command set to reset the local DB on the server
    20. $ reboot and to hold the CMD-S to boot into the single user mode.
    21. $ mount -uw /
    22. $ mv /var/db/dslocal /var/db/dslocal.old
    23. $ mkdir -p /var/db/dslocal/nodes
    24. $ cp -Rp /System/Library/DirectoryServices/DefaultLocalDB/Default /var/db/dslocal/nodes/
    25. $ cp -Rp /System/Library/DirectoryServices/DefaultLocalDB/dsmappings /var/db/dslocal/
    26. $ passwd
    FOURTH LEVEL REPAIR ATTEMPT
( 31 ) Shutdown the machine with the problem( we will call it the pm for problem machine)
( 32 ) attach a firewire cable to the pm on one end
( 33 ) attach the other end of the firewire cable to a good machine (call it gm)
In my case the gm uses firewire 400, and the pm uses firewire 800, so I had to get a cable that had firewire 400 on one end, and firewire 800 on the other,
( 34 ) start up the pm while holding down the "T" key until you see a large image floating around the pm screen. This put the pm into the "TARGET" mode, now it will behave like a drive, and you should see the drive on your gm desktop.
( 35 ) You can now copy anything you need from the pm to the gm.
( 36 ) Make sure you BACKUP anything and everything you want from the pm to the gm
( 37 ) IF YOU ARE WORKING ON A MACHINE CONTAINING OS X SERVER :
At this point, if nothing else has worked you will have to erase the drive and
    ( a ) re-install OS X, and
    ( b ) re-install OS X Server on the pm
    ( 38 ) IF YOU ARE WORKING ON A MACHINE CONTAINING OS X :
At this point, if nothing else has worked, from the Install DVD you can
    ( a ) Archive and re-install OS X on the pm
Another interesting thing that has happened several times now, is that I always install standard OS X on the first partition of the disk, and OS X Server on a different partition, and after installing OS X Server the machine would no longer boot from the standard OS X partition. This has happened like four different times, not sure what could be causing this problem. Booting from the install disk and running Disk Utilities to repair the disk (which comes back OK), and repair permissions always comes back with an internal error, and cannot be completed.
I have no clue what could be happening. I always had to reformat the drive and instal OS X all over again.
I have no clue what could be causing this to happen ?

Few days before I brought one iphone 5 by second party and this phone make a unlock but it sometime have a cellular network most of time say no service can u solve this problem please and I put serial number it say this phone is replace can u help me for original serial number....

If Apple's service database says that your iPhone was replaced, then Apple will no longer provide any service for that phone.
First, get a new SIM from your cell carrier and see if that corrects the problem. If it does not, try the usual steps for addressing software problems: restart, reset, restore.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try restoring from a backup and that doesn't fix the problem, try restoring to factory settings and, if the problem goes away, then sync back your apps and content. You'll lose the app data and settings, but if the problem is due to a corrupt cache or settings file, restoring to factory settings should cure it.
If none of that helps, your device may have developed a hardware fault. Again, Apple will provide no service for it, so you will need to pay some independent repair shop to fix your iPhone.
    Regards.

  • Printer keeps uninstalling itself

My printer keeps uninstalling itself! Why is this happening and what do I need to do? So frustrating! Thanks.

    Hi,
Try installing both of the software updates below and check if those may resolve the issue, those meant to address software issues which may cause the printer to disappear or reinstall itself:

  • State transitions across components?

    Hi,
I've been using Catalyst for a few days now to put together a "clickable mockup" of an app. Instead of working based on a comp, I'm creating the UI in Catalyst directly, using it's built-in components and creating a "wireframe" look. Works fine. I anticipate to work with more hi-fi comps.
One thing I'm having trouble with, is making deep transitions between states from subcomponents.
    Imagine this setup:
The app has two states/pages, "1" and "2". Inside each page, I have one component to represent all the states of that page. So for the first page, the internal component states would be 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3. Ditto for 2.
So, now, let's say that in state 1-3, I have a button inside the component, where I want to transition to 2-2. Currently, it appears that there is no way for me to do that. When I click on the options in "Play transition to state" of the button, it shows me states 1 and 2, as well as 1-1 through 1-3, but it does not show the "child" states of "2".
Is there any way to accomplish the transition from 1-3 to 2-2?
Another version on the same problem: let's say I can somehow get from 1-3 to 2-2. Now, inside 2-2, I have a button that jumps back to "1". Currently, when I jump to "1", it jumps to whatever state 1 was in, which is 1-3 in my case, which is undesirable. It would be nice if I could somehow reset the component state on some event (showing, hiding, ...) to its default state, so that when people later jump back to it, it would start in its default state.
I am familiar with ActionScript and XML and did poke around a bit. I see that in components, there is this kind of code:
      protected function Button_click_1_1():void
        mx.core.FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.currentState='AppHome';
I speculate that this lets me do what I need by editing code, and instead of topLevelApplication.currentState using topLevelApplication.someComponent.currentState... but I wanted to see if there is/will be another friendlier way of accomplishing this?

    Hi,
Just my, hopefully helpful thoughts about how to render complex state transition much easier to understand, design and debug ...............
Perhaps, initially for coders with a solid background in conditional logic, the inclusion of one or two design windows/panels providing the ability to design and display at least state transition diagrams and preferably also state transition tables, could be very helpful when trying to either design or understand complex, inter-related state transitions - actually, even relatively simple state-transitions with only five to seven objects, each with only three or four states to track concurrently, can be difficult to design, debug and test using just a mental model and memory to retain knowledge of the desired vs. actual state transition paths.
Although I say "initially for coders", many years ago I taught both of these techniques successfully during software "design principles" courses that addressed software developers who's function was to prepare "design specifications" rather than actually write the code which, in those days, was the job of programmers rather than designers.  In fact many of my students were not programmers at all - for example analysts who used state transition diagramming techniques to design functions regardless of whether those functions would become implemented as code, or as a set of human actions, or mechanical machine operations (think pinball!).
It should be possible using today's technoloy to be able to
        (a) generate code from a state transition table or a state transition diagram and
        (b) generate both forms of diagram from existing code (including the code autogenerated during visual design and
        (c) consistency check existing code automatically.
It should be possible, using state transition table and diagram functions, to highlight structural logic errors.  How such highlighting should be done, for example:
        (a) using a classic state transition table or diagram or
        (b) generating some form of structured text report or
        (c) inserting colour-highlighted error messages in-line in the code or
        (c) some other more visual-designer-oriented signalling technique or
        (d) a combination of several of the above
would be a design issue for Adobe.  This would not be a trivial exercise for Adobe, but the functionality would be reusable, i.e. transferable into other products.
After all, the only reason for such tables or diagrams is to render complex state transitions understandable by humans, and these two techniques have proved extremely useful for many decades in many areas of design - programming, electronic circuit design, machine design, business process design......
Re. Catalys, it's just a classic program design application, with some whizzy UI graphics that need to display, disappear, change colour, glow, shimmer, move, .... in predictable and desirable ways.
The original pinball machines used mechanical relays to implement their underlying state transition diagrams; pinball designers needed to understand at least two things (a) complex state transitions and (b) a well designed UI. From this point of view, Catalyst looks like a pinball design panel!

  • No print!! all the test went good.ip correct .all perfect .no print hp5510

Hi I have a printer hp photoshop 5510 was working perfect and yesterday I was trying to print and it is not working at all.showing me information--Unable to communicate with printer!!  so I have checked everything .like wifi connection ,IP address ,software update ,I have used HP Print and Scan Doctor and many other programs to find a problem!! Nothing works!!!I can scan documents and they are appearing in my computer without any problems.I can print raports from my printer as well and all tests .but I can not send any print from my Laptop.please help if someone does know the problem.thanks

Does your PC's security system have a firewall as part of it? Disable that firewall and try printing again.
Can you type the printer's IP address into a web browser and see the printer?

  • Printer keeps unsharing itself

Anyone know what could be causing this? Every few days printing stops working on our home LAN and when I look at the printer in System Preferences the "Share this printer on the network" box has become unchecked. When I check it printing starts off, clearing the backlog, and runs fine for a few days. Has happened 20+ times in a row.
    Other info:
    - Local printer: HP Officejet J5780 All In One
    - Local computer: iMac running Snow Leopard, with latest updates

  • Printer keeps adding itself...

About a month ago, a dialog box popped up saying something about a printer in use (I wasn't doing anything) and it told me I had to create a new printer. So I then had two of the same printer in the setup window. One called "ColorBurst_RIP", the original, and the new one I had to create called "ColorBurstRIPNEW".
Then started to have Photoshop CS 2 problems (Could not complete your request because of a program error) So I got some support docs on it and one of the troubleshooting tips was to delete and re-add printers.
Now everytime I go in and add the ColorBurst printer, it creates the one I just added and then it creates another one in the box called ColorBurstRIPNEW. It is the one that I had to "create" after the original error message.
Searched the HD for ColorBurstRIPNEW so I could delete it, but nothing is found. What is going on and how do I fix this?
This is on my dual processor G4 mirrored desktop.

  • IMac mid 2011 21.5 inch Flicker

Hello, I have a mid 21.5 inch iMac week 20, that i have owned for 2 moths now and about 1 week after i updated to lion, i have been experiencing some extremely small flickers but it looks like its software related because it has been coming a few times and on the desktop, i do not think it is the display or graphics card but software related, any help would be very much appreciated and this is my first and hopefully only post.

Hmmmm I have this same issue I think. I bought a used 21.5" 2011 iMac with OS X Lion and I've noticed an occasional (and sometimes barely perceptible) flickering of what looks like the brightness setting. (This is not at all the same phenomenon as noticing the refresh rate, which is more of a horizontal scanline effect.
I saw that a firmware update had been released awhile back for 27" iMacs, but my understanding was that their flickering was somehow more severe.
My brightness setting is currently on 4 (level 15 or whatever must be positively blinding) and I tend to notice this flickering about 3-4 times a day and seems to be most often when I have the finder open or large white areas/docs showing (though don't quote me on that).
I don't think the iMac I bought has Applecare so this has me a little nervous.
Is it an addressable software issue? Zombiemage564Did deleting that entire systemconfiguration folder do anything? I see quite a few things in there and am nervous about just deleting it. Can any reader/Apple person weigh in on a possible fix?
    Thanks.

  • Printer will not print things from the 5GHZ Band.

Hi. So, I have a printer. It is on the 2.4Ghz band and it does not support the 5Ghz band. So I have a problem here, whenever I have a device conected to the 5Ghz band and print, it won't. However, if I am on the 2.4Ghz band it prints.
I don't know why it don't work. The IP Address software says it can find it, but it still won't print!
I recently changed my HomeHub SSID, so I had to reconnect all my devices. And it still don't print. I have currently, the Home Hub 4.
Also, I am looking ao ordering the BT dual-band dongle sepratley, will it still fit through the letter box?...The packaging?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I found I needed to reconfigure my Wireless so the SSID's for the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz did not use the same name
    ie I appended a 2 to the 2.4Ghz wireless SSID and a 5 to the 5Ghz one
This was because some dual band devices would occasionally hope between both occasionally causing disconnections
Separating the SSID made it nice and easy to see which I was using and when and resolved all my issues, especially as I could tie key devices to 5Ghz, and not so key ones to 2.4Ghz by not defining the other SSID on them to autoconnect
I don't know if this solution will help for your issue, but it helped with mine
