ASA 5520 v7.2 - VPN site to site problem and clear command
Hi all,
I am getting some problems with a Site to Site VPN from the last two weeks. In some occasions it stops to send traffic through the VPN without any apparent reason. I have other VPNs that continue working fine. While it is failing I have run the command "show crypto isakmp sa" and I have found that I have two entries for the peer that is failing:
9 IKE Peer: x.x.x.x
Type: L2L Role: responder
Rekey: no State: AM_REKEY_DONE_H2
10 IKE Peer: x.x.x.x
Type: L2L Role: initiator
Rekey: yes State: MM_ACTIVE_REKEY
Any idea about what is happening?
On the other hand at the moment the only way to solve this has been using the command "clear crypto isakmp sa" but the problem is that this command clear all the entries and I lose the connectivity in all the other tunnels until the are established again. Is there any way to clear only the tunnel that has problems?
Regards, Fernando.Hi MD,
I have tried to use the command that you said but that option doesn't appear in my ASA.
asa# clear crypto ?
accelerator Clear accelerator statistics
ca Certification authority
ipsec Clear IPsec operational data
isakmp Clear ISAKMP operational data
protocol Clear protocol statistics
asa(config)# clear crypto ?
exec mode commands/options:
accelerator Clear accelerator statistics
ca Certification authority
ipsec Clear IPsec operational data
isakmp Clear ISAKMP operational data
protocol Clear protocol statistics
Do you know any other possibility?
On the other hand, do you know why I am having this issue?

Here ere are my current configs, please let me know if you need anything else. Im stumped on this one. Thanks.

Cisco ASA 5505 Site to Site VPN Problem
Hi All,
We have a site to site VPN with a cisco asa 5505 on one end and a Checkpoint firewall on the other end.
We can establish the vpn tunnel and all users in the remote office are working great. However at a random point during the day or it may even be after 2 weeks of working, the tunnel between the sites automatically fails.
When I dial into the modem which is connected to the firewall I see the following messages in the logs:
Sep 14 2011 16:40:02: %ASA-3-713902: Group = *.*.*.*, IP = *.*.*.*, QM FSM error (P2 struct &0x42314d8, mess id 0xa18dcb12)!

There is nothing in the Checkpoint logs. To solve the issue I have to reload the firewall.
I have checked both firewalls for any mis-matched parameters and do not see any.
Any help is very much appreciated as it is very frustrating for myself and the users in the remote office.
Thanks! Also to note, PFS is enabled on both firewalls. Config on Cisco ASA firewall as follows:

Cisco ASA 5520 Site-to-site VPN TUNNELS disconnection problem
Hi,
i recently purchased a Cisco ASA 5520 and running firmware v. 8.4(2) and ASDM v. 6.4(5)106.
I have installed 50 Site-to-Site VPN tunnels, and they work fine.
but randomly the VPN Tunnels keep disconnecting and few seconds after it connects it self automaticly....
it happens when there is no TRAFIC on, i suspect.
in ASDM in Group Policies under DfltGrpPolicy (system default) i have "idle timeout" to "UNLMITED" but still they keep disconnecting and connecting again... i have also verified that all VPN TUNNELS are using this Group Policie. and all VPN tunnels have "Idle Timeout: 0"
this is very annoying as in my case i have customers having a RDP (remote dekstop client) open 24/7 and suddenly it gets disconnected due to no traffic ?
in ASDM under Monitoring -> VPN .. i can see all VPN tunnels recently disconnected in "Login Time Duration"... some 30minutes, 52minutes, 40minutes and some 12 minutes ago.. and so on... they dont DISCONNECT at SAME time.. all randomly..
i dont WANT the VPN TUNNELS to disconnect, i want them to RUN until we manually disconnect them.
Any idea?
Thanks,

Hello,
I'm trying to set up a site to site VPN. I've never done this before and can't get it to work. I've watched training vids online and thought it looked straight forward enough. My problem appears to be that th ASA is not trying to create a tunnel. It doesn't seem to know that this traffic should be sent over the tunnel. Both the outside interfaces can ping one another and are on the same subnet.
I've pasted the two configs below. They're just base configs with all the VPN commands having been created by the wizard. I've not put any routes in as the two devices are on the same subnet. If you can see my mistake I'd be very grateful to you if you could point it out or even point me in the right direction.
Cheers,
Tormod

: endThanks very much for your help Jouni. I came in this morning and ran the crypto map outside_map 1 set reverse-route command and everything started to work. I'm surprised the wizard didn't include that command but maybe it's because I didn't have a default route set.
However, I now have a new problem. We're working towards migrating from ASA8.2 to 9.1. In order to prepare for this I've created a mock of our environment and am testing that everything works prior to making the changes. I can't get this site to site VPN to work. (The one I posted yesterday was just to get a basic site to site VPN working so that I could go from there)
I've posted the debug from the ASA to which I'm trying to connect. To my undtrained eye it looks like it completes phase one but fails to match a vpn tunnel map. I'm coming from 10.99.99.99 going to 10.1.1.57
Hope you can help as I'm going nuts here. Although I will of course understand if you've something better to do with your time than bail me out.

Cisco ASA 5505 Site to site VPN IPSEC tunnel to an Clavister Firewall
Hi,
I have weird problem with a Site to site VPN tunnel from a Cisco ASA 5505 to an Clavister Firewall.
When I restart the Cisco ASA 5505 the tunnel is up and down,up, down, down, and I get all strange messages when I see if the tunnel is up or down with the syntax: show crypto isakmp sa
After a while like 5-10 min the vpn site to site tunnel is up and here is the strange thing happening I have all accesslists and tunnel accesslists right I can only access one remote network (Main site Clavister Firewall) trought the vpn tunnel behind the Cisco ASA 5505, and I have 5 more remote networks that I want to access but only one remote network is working trought the vpn tunnel behind the Cisco ASA. I see that when I do this syntax in ASA: show crypto ipsec sa.
They had a Clavister Firewall before on that site before and now they have a Cisco ASA 5505 and all the rules on the main site thats have the big Clavister Firewall is intact so the problems are in the Cisco ASA 5505.
Here is some logs that ASDM give me about the tunnel issue, but like I said, the tunnel is up and only one remote network is reachable in that tunnel.....

MichaelHi,
I'd start by getting the configuration of the remote site related to Local/Remote network configurations and go through them. Even though no changes have been made.
If they are mirror images of eachother already I'd say its probably some problem related to Cisco/Clavister setup
Seems especially wierd to me that one of the error messages includes 0.0.0.0 lines.
I have run into some problems with L2L VPN configurations when our Cisco device just doesnt want to work with the remote end device. In some cases we have confirmed that our networks defined for the L2L VPN are exactly the same and yet when checking debugs on the ASA side we can see the remote end device using totally wrong network masks for the VPN negotiaton and therefore it failed. That problem we corrected with changing the network masks a bit.
Maybe you could try to change the Encryption Domain configurations a bit and test it then.
You could also maybe take some debugs on the Phase2 and see if you get anymore hints as to what could be the problem when only one network is working for the L2L VPN.

ASA 5505 Site to Site VPN rekey
I have a5505 configured to support a number of site to site links. One of these has a problem with rekeying. Running debug I see the entres:

The VPN is not configured on the Interface Servers but on another Interface (outside). It has been completely rebuilt recently. Is this a problem or a ghost of some sort?Ok, symptoms are that the Phase1 rekey ss started early (18 hours rather than full 24 specified). Rekey always fails, but VPN immediately rebuilds without error.
Phase 1 is AES-256, Preshared keys, Hash SHA1 DH Group2 Rekey 86400 seconds.

ASA 5505 Site to Site and Web VPN
Hello all, I need to add a site to site tunnel from a an ASA 5505 (ver 8.05) to a Sonic wall appliance. The problem is, the ASA already has remote access VPN and anyconnect VPN configured. I'm not sure if its possible to add another secured tunnel to the device. Ive already got one NAT 0 statement.
Thanks for your expert opinions!Hi,
There should be no problem adding a Site to Site VPN on the ASA even if it has Client VPN configured.
If you for example have an "inside" interface which has NAT0 configuration like
nat (inside) 0 access-list NAT0
You just add the needed ACL lines to that existing ACL for the L2L VPN.
On the basis of the information you provided I dont see any problem configuring the L2L VPN on the ASA.

how to handle multiple site to site IPsec vpn on ASA, any best practice to to manage multiple ipsec vpn configurations
before ver 8.3 and after version 8.3 ...8.4.. 9 versions..Hi,
To my understanding you should be able to attach the same cryptomap to the other "outside" interface or perhaps alternatively create a new crypto map that you attach only to your new "outside" interface.
Also I think you will probably need to route the remote peer ip of the VPN connection towards the gateway IP address of that new "outside" and also the remote network found behind the VPN connection.
If you attempt to use VPN Client connection instead of L2L VPN connection with the new "outside" interface then you will run into routing problems as naturally you can have 2 default routes active at the sametime (default route would be required on the new "outside" interface if VPN Client was used since you DONT KNOW where the VPN Clients are connecting to your ASA)
Hope this helps

CISCO ASA 5505 Split Tunnel DNS with Site to Site VPN
I have a working configuration for Site to Site VPN between our head office and a private AWS VPC instance.
The tunnel is active and I can ping the IP address of the remote network and connect to the remote machines using the IP address, but we need to use the FQDN and not the IP. We have a DNS server set up in AWS for any DNS queries for the remote domain name.
My question is whether or not the ASA 5505 supports a DNS split tunnel for Site to Site VPN and how it can be configured.
I can not find where I can interogate the DNS query to be redirected to the VPN tunnel when our domain name is used in a DNS query. Thus, any pings I try with the FQDN of our servers in AWS are failing as they are going to the default DNS, which is the internet.
Can any one point me in the right direction on how to configure this DNS rewrite so that we can access our AWS private cloud using FQDN from our AWS domain rather than an IP address?Jose, your fix to problem 1 allows all access from the outside, assuming you applied the extended list to the outside interface. Try to be more restrictive than an '...ip any any' rule for outside_in connections. For instance, this is what I have for incoming VOIP (access list and nat rules):
access list rule:
access-list outside_access_in extended permit udp any object server range 9000 9049 log errors
nat rule:
nat (inside, outside) source static server interface service voip-range voip-range
- 'server' is a network object *
- 'voip-range' is a service group range
I'd assume you can do something similar here in combination with my earlier comment:
access-list incoming extended permit tcp any any eq 5900
Can you explain your forwarding methodology a little more? I'm by no means an expert on forwarding, but the way I read what you're trying to do is that you have an inbound VNC request coming in on 5900 and you want the firewall to figure out which host the request should go to. Or is it vice-versa, the inbound VNC request can be on port 6001-6004 ? -
Site-To_Site VPN problem
Hello everyone
I'm installing a new site-to-site VPN connection between two sites, having problems bringing the tunnel online.
We have two ASA 5505 firewalls - one at our Central site, and another for our customer at the Remote site.
I wiped both firewalls with write erase, installed the latest IOS version 9.2 on both firewalls.
I'm not sure if the new IOS is causing the problem, we have several site-to-site vpn’s all working with IOS 8.4 5
I'm enclosing the configs for both ASA firewalls for you to review and see if I missed something or what's changed in the IOS that maybe causing our tunnel issue.
Thank youCentral site

After running the command we see both firewalls have the same pre shared key -
One router on ASA 5505 Site to Site VPN can't ping other router
I have two Cisco ASA routers and I have a site to site vpn set up between the two. The VPN link works but Site A can't ping anything on Site B. Site B can ping Site A. Site B can ping other pcs on it's own network. Site A has been in place for a while and has other site to site VPNs that work fine, so I think the problem is with Site B. Here is the config for Site B:

ASA 5520 site-to-site VPN question
Hello,
We have a Cisco 5520 ASA 8.2(1) connected to a Cisco RVS4000 router via an IPsec Site-to-Site VPN. The RVS4000 is located at a branch office. The tunnel works beautifully. When computers at the remote site are turned on the tunnel is established, and data is transferred back and forth.
The only issue I'm having is being able to Remote Desktop to the branch office computers, or ping for that matter. I can ping and Remote Desktop from the branch office computers to computers at the main site where the ASA is located.
After doing some research, I came across the this command;
sysopt connection permit-vpn
I haven't tried entering the command yet, but was wondering if this is something that I can try initially to see it it resolves the problem.
Thanks,
JohnWhat are your configs and network diagrams at each location? What are you doing for DNS? I can help quicker with that info. Also, here are some basic site to site VPN examples if it helps.
