Ipad and 3 network (UK)

Hi,
Has anyone got his or her 3g to work on 3 network? I've called them twice, they claim the SIM card should have been activated.
I haven't set up anything on the APN settings. I've tried three.co.uk but it doesn't seem to help. I do have a full signal according to the upper left corner.
Should I just wait or am I missing the APN settings or something else? I haven't done any other activation rituals, just inserted the SIM card and called 3.
(How stupid a mobile network name is 3? Google is virtually useless as "3" matches to pretty much everything that has for example 3G mentioned somewhere)

Brought my IPad 3G which was purchased in the USA to the UK and went to the Apple Store in Cambridge for help on changing from AT&T to a UK sim card provider. Their genius offered no help. Went to the O2 store and they had a mini sim card and account for the IPad however when the sim card was inserted it would not bring up the account set up portal so there was no way to set up the account on my IPad. Fortunately the manager of the store had a IPad 3G which he purchased in the UK and he was able to set up my O2 sim card account on his IPad and then move it to my IPad. This round about worked and I was able to use 3G which is very spotty in the UK during my visit. However, there was NO View Account setting to cancel the the account and I had to go back to the store and have the same manager put the sim card into his IPad to cancel the account prior to leaving. This experience would negate that you can easily travel and use mini sim cards from other countries in your IPad. Is this a glitch with Apple software that does not allow you to open multiple sim card accounts? Regardless, it needs to be addressed and corrected by Apple as many people like myself purchased the 3G model believing the marketing that they could easily use it with multiple sim card accounts while traveling abroad. I appreciate any comments...especially from Apple.

Usually it's because you are not making internet connection via wifi.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Trying to download ios5 to ipad and getting network timeouts also showing 15 hours to download. I have turned off firewall but still happening

IPad and wireless network accounts

In our school, students connect to the wifi with a personal login and password to track usage. How can I get the iPad to disconnect and 'forget' the last users account info?

To access the wifi in the school, each person must login with their own login and password. Each teacher and student has their own login and password.
No matter what school I go to in the region, the iPad will recognize the wireless and automatically login me in.
We are introducing 15 iPads into my classroom to be used by 5 different classes over the course of the day. When the first student get his iPad, he will log in to the wireless with his unique login and password.
At the end of the period, is there an easy way to take the iPad off the wifi network and 'forget' the login/password of the first student so that the second student can then login with their unique password?
Otherwise, there will be 75 students all surfing the 'net under my identity.

If I use my Airport Express to establish a network printer can I print from my IPad and iPhone?

I want to be able to print to a network printer with my IPad and IPhone with IOS 5.0.1. Seems like there is a limited number of printers that can "AirPlay" from these devices. I have an Airport Express and I know how to connect a printer and set it up as a network printer, my question is can I wirelessly print from my Ipad and iPhone then. Seems too easy for what appears to be a limited set of new printers that have that have Thai function built in.

Yes, I did try to go on my settings>wifi and was waiting for any wifi signals to pick up, but nothing shows up. But on my PC I get a whole list of networks to choose from. Regarding my neighbor, I already have her password that is why I was able to get it on my PC, the problem is that the mini Ipad is not picking any signal neither can it locate me when I go to maps.

Those are the instructions for your computer's iTunes (i.e. using the Store menu at the top of your computer's iTunes and selecting 'View My Account' on it). If you are doing it on your iPad then are you following the instructions for iOS devices :
To unhide your purchases
Depending on the content type, open the App Store, iBooks, or iTunes Store on your device.
Scroll to the bottom of the main page.
If you're not already signed in, tap Sign In.
Tap your Apple ID name, then tap View Account.
Scroll down on the Account pane, and tap Hidden Purchases.
Locate the item you would like to unhide then tap the Unhide button.

Can I use ATV(2) and Airplay from iPad without a network?

I'm going on holiday to a rented villa which has a TV (which I assume has an HDMI port) but there is no internet connection, therefore no router or local WiFi network. I'd like to be able to play content from my iPad and/or iPhone via Airplay on the TV using my AppleTV (2) (which I could easily take with me).
However, experimenting at home, it seems that ATV won't do anything at all unless connected to a WiFi network. Airplay works fine even if the network is not connected to the internet; even purchased content seems to be ok (but DRM free - I haven't bought any non-DRM-free music). However, without a separate WiFi router, ATV doesn't seem to do anything. In particular, my iPad doesn't "see" it, and can't connect to it, unless both are connected to an existing network.
I don't understand why this should be so. Should it not be possible to connect two WiFi devices (eg iPad and ATV) to each other without needing a router?
I can get it to work if I use my MBP to set up a WiFi network by using Internet Sharing to share my (non-existent) ethernet connection using Airport. Airplay then works between my iPad and ATV. However, this is a rather clumsy arrangement - I'd been hoping I wouldn't need to take my MBP with me for that week.
So, am I doing anything wrong, or is this (Airplay from iPad to ATV without a router) just something ATV can't do? And is it "can't do" (ie ATV has the wrong chipset or something) or "won't do" (ie Apple have set it up so it won't work like this)? And if it's "won't do", any chance Apple will provide this functionality in the future?

After submitting this, I found an answer to a similar question last December (Can I create an ad-hoc (WiFi) network between my iPhone and Apple TV?); basically saying that you need the router; but I'll leave this as a question (a) to help others find it, because I looked before I submitted and didn't find a relevant discussion and (b) just in case someone else has a better idea......

You could take the airport and setup a wifi network without Internet. The atv2 can connect without Internet access to a wifi network setup with a router. Be patient when it connects, it tries to establish an Internet connection and it takes a while to find there isn't one!! Eventually it offers to connect without Internet. Once connected you can stream to it as usual. One word of caution - don't disable home sharing, if you do and re-activate it the atv2 seems to need an Internet connection to verify your account.
I did precisely this recently when I had to wait for a couple of weeks for Internet to be connected at my new house.
But, you need the router - unlike iPhone, iPad etc the atv2 will not connect to an ad hoc network.

A new iPad and new Express, but no Mac - can't set up network!

Here's a puzzler (for me at least) --
Mom bought a new iPad and new Airport Express. She has no Mac, so no iTunes and no syncing. Her iPad does NOT have Airport Utility. She's starting from scratch.
Her Express is connected to her Cox Cable Cisco modem, shich shows steady green for good internet connection. The express flashes amber, I assume becuase there's no network set up.
Her iPad sees the Express -- Wi-Fi in the Settings menu has "Apple ..." where the network name appears -- and the wireless signal 'fan' shows strong in the top bar.
In iPad > Settings > Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi shows 'on', no editable network shows, and no "create network" option shows.
She can't get Airport Utility without internet or syncing to a Mac, and she can't see any way to create a network, or see any existing network that she can forget or manage.
Is this simple Cox Cable > Cisco modem > Express wireless > iPad a workable setup?
Is there any way to create the wireless network without Airport Utility?

P.S. The iPad isn't pristine connection-wise. It was temporarily connected to a public Wi-Fi to complete setting up an iCloud account, and so get to the home screen for the first time. BUT, my mom is ancient and fearful, and I don't want to send her out to find public Wi-Fi to set up a a credit card account so she can use the app store to get utility if I don't have to. Help.

Thanks CRMDVM -- ...which means, I think, that she will need to go out into the wide world to find public wireless. Makes me wish Airport Utility was one of the stock apps that came with the iPad.
Any other ideas? Any way to manually configure on an iPad? Anything? Thanks.

iOS 5 used to allow Airplay between iPad (WiFi) and Apple TV (Ethernet) as long as they were on the same network, i.e. connected to the same wired/wireless router. In iOS 6, now both the iPad and the Apple TV have to be on the same network and both have to be connected using WiFi ? Why did they change this ? Means that the iPad and the Apple TV box both have to be in range of the wireless router when this wasn't a restriction before. Apple TV could be anywhere as long as it was connected to the same wireless router via ethernet cable. Seems like an unnecessary thing to restrict.

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem. The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6. (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

In hotel w/wireless network. ATV finds network, but does not ask me for password, so can't communicate through network. MacBook Air, iPad and 2 iPhones connected to hotel wireless, but ATV does not ask me for the password. Any ideas?

I have succesfully connected a MacBook Air, an iPad and two iPhones to the wireless network in this hotel. Apple TV can see the network and "connects" to the network, but w/o asking for password. I expected to see a screen immediately after selecting the network that asked me for the password as did all of my other devices. ATV did not ask me for a password. When I go to Settings>General>Network, it shows the name of the hotel wireless network, but I can't communicate with the network. It can't set date and time. When I try to enter my Apple account name and password, it tells me it can't log in w/o setting date and time.
Any ideas on how to connect to this network?

I am having the same problem. In my hotel when I connect my laptop a screen will pop up and you have to hit the button "I Accept Terms". However I can't do that with the ATV. I called the internet provider and they said they could not help me. Any ideas? Do you think the guy just doesn't know what he can do for me? I am thinking I will call later and hope to get a different technician who might know how to help connect me.
