IPad and iTunes disagree on free space
iPad 3, 64gb.
iTunes 10.5.2.11,
Windows 7
iTunes says 14.9 gb "free"
iPad says 27.9 GB "Available"
Can anyone explain which is right, and why the difference?

You have two issues.
1. Partitioning within Windows and OS X are using two different personalities of a disk, and if not kept in sync, you run into this issue. Apple does not allow Windows partition to be resized because they do not provide the appropriate tools to keep them in sync.
2. If you are willing to take a backup of OS X and all your files, the cleanest method is to erase the drive and restore from a backup, preferably using a Time Machine backup.

My phones under usage section says I have 3.6Gb of free space, when I try and sync in iTunes it says I am 964Mb Over capacity so will not synch. Any suggestions as to how to resolve?

I just got a new iPad 2 and I have lot of questions. I was able to wirelessly link my iPad and iTunes on my PC. I was able to SYNC my email and calendar (new entries only no history), however I have not been able to SYNC Outlook contacts. Outlook has multiple contact lists. Only one has any data. I can't find a way to delete the others and I can't keep the one I want to use at the top of the list. Any ideas?
I have a question about email. I have several thousand emails in 10 or so days. How can I select multiple emails for deletion in stead of one at a time? How do I designate emails from a given sender as junk or block certain senders?

I'd suggest converting your old videos to one of those formats
handbrake is a free program which does this for you
itunes used to be able to too when I right clicked incompatible media but don't see the option any more
or maybe it only show when one right click incompatible media and currently my lib don't have any
about the music then it's odd what formats are they?
if they are acc protected have you tried to remove the DRM this can be don using itunes as

Differences in "storage used" between iPad and iTunes
I have an iPad Mini 2 and there a differences between the stated "storage used" between the iPad and iTunes.
Looking in the general settings "Storage" it states I have used 113GB and available is 413MB.
Looking on iTunes, when the iPad is connected, it states I have 67.20GB free.
Which is correct and what causes the problem?
How is it fixed if it is because the iPad has a fault?
Many thanks.It is now a couple of weeks and noticed the discrepancy occurring again. I did not want to go through the above process again because it took about 4 hours to get my iPad up, running again and normal.
Again, there was a difference in memory by about 20GB.
This time it tried something different.
1) Went into General settings on iPad and managed memory. From here I removed all films and TV episodes. Now Video memory was zero.
2) Switched off WiFi. When I opened the Video app, I noticed a pile of films and TV episodes showing, even though they had the cloud icon. They could even be watched. I deleted these films/episodes.
3) Viewed the iPad memory using iTunes on laptop and compared to iPad general settings usage (video memory negligible). Both numbers pretty much spot on.
My musings - I can only assume that the iPad does not properly delete films/episodes that I had previously watched. It is evidently holding on to the video, even though I had deleted them and they were not showing in general settings. Though it is a hassle, I at least now how to find where the "lost" memory is and how to reclaim it. -

I am very nearly at my limit, so been deleting a few playlists but as I was doing that, it seemed to be filling back up again just as quick.
So I deselected the 'Automatically fill free space with songs' button, and the capacity has stayed exactly the same?

Under Songs, Artsts, Albums, etc.
They are not in any playlist.

That menas that it is working exactly as it should.
If you have select 2GB of playlists, iTunes will put 6GB on the iPod automatically.
So I deselected the 'Automatically fill free space with songs' button, and the capacity has stayed exactly the same
Nothing will change on the iPod until you sync it. -

I have been creating a photo book using a lots of photographs on iPhoto, and then I took another photos by using new iPAD which I want to integrate with the original album/book on iMac. I was able to import them from iPAD's iPhoto to iMac's iPhoto. However I cannot import or transfer or sync anything from iMac's iPhoto to that of my iPAD.
So my iPhoto page on iPAD contains only 3 or 4 newly created albums, and no other info. That means no syncing....
I am supposed to be able to work on this project on either of these iPAD and iMac, correct?

After a rescent update on my ipad 3 I can no longer connect to my pc with WIFI. I have tried resetting ipad and itunes but nothing works. Talked to support and they were no help. Any suggestions?

I have forgotten my passcode for ipad and itunes is asking passcode to be entered - even after following directions for computers not synced... multiple times, but iTunes is not "detecting a device in recovery mode." What do I do now?

This will very likley result in loss of data.
Plug the iPhone into the computer.
Ensure that it is running the latest version of iTunes and that it has access to the internet.
Press and hold both the home and sleep/wake buttons for exactly eight seconds.
Release only the sleep/wake button but continue to hold the home button for another five seconds.
Let go of the home button, then look at the computer screen for an instructional popup.
The popup should say "iTunes has detected a device in recovery mode. . .(etc)" Click accept to all boxes and let iTunes download and install all of the latest device Firmware and Software.
If no popup appears, repeat the above DFU instructions. If you've never done a DFU, it may take about three attempts to get the timing right. -

In the likes of scrivener you can have a page with only what you are writing showing and the same goes for Ulysses.
Is it possible to get rid of the sidebar in ibooks author which I basically almost never need, as I am a novelist....You can hide the glossary, format, and tool bars but you will always have the book outline on the left side. If that's not sufficient, I recommend that you create your content in a writing tool and import (copy/paste) the content in IBA when you are ready to format and layout you book.

Hi, I'm unable to see if I have any music/videos/photos on my ipad and itunes advise that I have 23gb of 'other' material therefore the sync is unable to perform when transfering music/videos to the ipad. I was forced to perform a restore earlier and now cant see the videos/music so want to replace. Pls assist, thanks
23 GB of other indicates a corrupt file(s). A restore should resolve.

I bought a new computer because my other computer was failing. I want to link my iPhone, iPad and iTunes to this computer. I transferred my iTunes library to the new computer files but don't know how to put them INTO the iTunes library that I have set up on the new computer.

You can only buy from the UK iTunes Store, and per the Terms of Use for the UK Store, you agree not to attempt to use it from outside of the UK. Apple may take technological steps to prevent such use, though I've never seen any reliable indication that they do so.

Ipad and itunes free space discrepancy

I'm trying to sync new itunes purchases onto my ipad. My ipad tells me there is 12 GB left but itunes is convinced there is only 1GB free space. The former must be right because it has automatically removed a whole bunch of watched TV shows.
How can I correct it so it will let me sync?

To see exactly how much free storage space is available... connect your iPad to your computer. In the iTunes window select the Summary tab. At the bottom of that window you'll see Capacity and Free.
Try resetting your iPad. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Restart both your G5 and your iPad. Try syncing again.
