IPad2 wifi no longer detecting some networks

Hello, my old iPad 2 is detecting some networks in the house but not others.  I have Uverse Motorola ngv510 and using wireless, it has even an additional Cisco WAP for the wireless uverse receivers.  My old iPad sees the Cisco WAP but not the standard house wireless, it won't see the HP wireless printer, but the neighbors WAP no problem.  My iPad Air sees all of them, it's like the old iPad 2 is just filtering out some WAPs, I've tried manual connections, restarting the Motorola, moving it to just N band, I can't get this old iPad 2 to see my wireless network.
I'm going to take it to work Monday, maybe it will see that one there and I can do an update.  It's running iOS 7.0.4
Anyone have this problem that might be able to assist?

Howdy George,
It sounds like you are not seeing all available Wi-Fi networks. I would use the Wi-Fi troubleshooting from the following article, named:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Restart your iOS device.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Unable to locate a Wi-Fi network
Verify that the network is available by tapping Settings > Wi-Fi and choosing from the available networks.Note: It may take a few seconds for the Wi-Fi network name to appear.
Move closer to your wireless router (access point) and attempt to locate the Wi-Fi network.
If you do not see the network you would like to join, you may be attempting to connect to a hidden network. Learn how to join a hidden network.
Supported Wi-Fi configurations vary by iOS device model. Find out which standards your device supports3.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
recently used Bluetooth accessories
VPN and APN settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Sterling

  • Ipad2 is no longer detecting ANY wifi networks.

Hi, my 9 month old ipad 2 no longer detects ANY wifi networks. Was always logged on to our own home router and in settings was always able to 'see' neighbours wifi - now nothing shows. Is this a hardware problem?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • MyBookLive drive no longer detectable on network

I am having trouble with my MyBookLive network drive. Ever since I rebooted it, it is no longer detectable on the network. It is correctly connected to the router but the router just doesn't seem to pick up that there is a network drive attached to it. I know it is not an issue with the router as I tried a completely different router but the exact same behavior is observed. Also this exact same setup was working fine without a problem before I rebooted the drive. The drive powers up fine and I can hear it spinning and even the LEDs next to the Ethernet cable light up; it's just not being detected on the network. So I detect it is a problem with the drive's network adapter not being able to obtain an IP address from the router. Please advise me how to proceed in order to resolve this issue.

Hi, Thanks for your replies and suggestions. The short answer is, yes I tried everything and the issue is still the same. The drive is just not recognisable on the network at all and not visible in the list of attached devices on the routers web page. The front LED on my drive has NOT worked for the past year at least, but despite that, it has never effected the operation of the drive. So unfortunately we cannot use it to diagnose the problem. I did try to reset the drive using the reset button at the back however it does not seem to do anything. I cannot notice the drive rebooting or maybe because the front LED is doesn't work, it is not obvious whether the reset has actually been triggered or no. Regardless, it has NOT resolved the problem. I did try a different router and Ethernet cable but the issue does indeed remain the same. Pinging the device fails because the drive is not recognizable on the network at all, even though it is powered on (I can feel it running) and connected to the router correctly, and even the LEDs on either ends of the Ethernet cable are alight. I tried the direct connection to the computer without a router but the same is observed. I cannot see the drive on the network and hence ping fails with this setup as well. So I think it is either an issue with the drives network adaptor or operating system. Is this something that can be repaired do you think? Thanks again

  • IMac no longer detecting any networks...

    Hi again all...
My 24 inch white iMac recently went in for repair after having graphics issues (no other issue ever, everything perfect). It came back, switched it on, runs fast again and has no graphics issues.
However, Airport now does not seem to be detecting ANY network at all. Normally it would pick up my home network (router in the next room), as well as 1-2 other networks which are likely from other houses nearby. This has always been the same for the life of the computer. My MacBook has absolutely no issues detecting my home network as well as other networks, as per usual.
I have tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, removing and re-adding Airport, running Network Diagnostics, etc but it just cannot find anything at all. I even tried messing with my router a bit by changing the security a few times, the MacBook detected it fine again, but nothing on the iMac. Same thing after trying another router too. Also, the Airport card seems to be detected fine in System Profiler.
I cannot seem to figure out what's causing this and how to resolve it. Please can anyone advise me on what else I could try and what the problem could be?
Thanks, hope you guys can help!

    HI,
    Try changing the Airport Channel.
    Open AirPort Utility (Applications/Utilities)
Select the device you’re setting up on the left and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.
If that doesn't help, go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart the iMac.
If nothing above has helped, try the Airport Troubleshooting Guide here.

  • Wifi Does Not detect my network but does others

    Hi there,
I managed to get great responses last time I had an issue and now I'm back.
Here's the issue and I will also say what I've tried so far to fix it.
    ISSUE
On-and-off my laptop cannot detect (and hence join) my own Wi-Fi network, even when right next to the router. My neighbours' networks are all visible.
This issue is not consistent and is sporadic.
It is not a hardware issue - I'm currently (reluctantly) logged into my Windows partition and am happily using my Wi-Fi connection through that.
It's not a router issue as
    a) It's a new router
    b) I can connect through Windows (as can my wife on her netbook)
    c) My iPod Touch connects no problem.
My network is not a hidden network, it is fully visible. It is, of course, a secured network and no-one but me knows the password to the admin panel of the network.
    _WHAT I'VE TRIED_
    a) Restarting the computer doesn't fix it
    b) Removing the connection settings from 'Networks' and restarting it doesn't fix it
    c) Deleting the system preferences list from Library|SystemConfig|Preferences doesn't fit it.
    d) Turning the router off for a while and then back on doesn't fix it.
    e) I've just done a DiskWarrior check and that didn't fix it.
I have also done a complete reinstall of Leopard and then restored my files etc from my external hard drive (configured to use Time Machine).
    I don't know whether I've covered everything, but it's certainly a start.
A couple of weird things - sometimes leaving it overnight means it re-finds my network - but no explanations. And the fact that this issue is inconsistent.
Please help, as I really am getting tired of it (I've tried working around it for a couple of weeks now) and am out of ideas.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
It sounds to me like an IP address problem.
Under "Applications" go to "System preferences", then under "Internet & Network" select "Network" Select the kind of network you want to connect to, go to advanced under "TCP/IP" It should say "Using DHCP"
    Write down the IP address.
Try renewing the DHCP lease. Then try connecting to the network.
If that doesn't work, find a computer that can connect to the internet and check the IP address of that computer the first three sets of numbers should match the IP address you wrote down, if they don't normally I would have to tell you to go through terminal and find an unused IP address to select, but considering you probably are never going to access the network through both parts of the partition at the same time, you can safely use the IP address that Windows has. How to get that IP Address I can't really help you with though...
Once you pull the IP address that the windows side is using go back to the advanced settings page and select "use DHCP with manual IP address" in the space for IP address enter said IP address, and click apply. And hopefully you will be having a grand ol' time on the web.

  • I have the ipad2 wifi. and have downloaded some games, do i need to stay connected to a wifi hot spot to play them?

do i need to stay connected to wi-fi to play games i've downloaded, i went to the skating rink and was looking forward to pass my time playing game apps i downloaded but couldnt play them because of no hotspot??

Wi-Fi is only needed for the download, not to play the game. Unless, of course, the app description states that the app needs Wi-Fi to play.

  • WRT300N no longer detecting network

    Hello,
After a loss of power the WRT300N is no longer detecting the network I have setup.  Other wireless networks are shown.  I hit the reset button already, and nothing changed.  I tried to access http://192.168.1.1/ as suggested elsewhere but I am not getting an internet connection at all when the router is hooked up to my laptop via ethernet (all lights are green on the router except wireless and security).  I also attempted to add the router via Vista and it asked for the PIN which I cannot find.  I also tried to reload with the Linksys software and it could not detect the router and said to check the connection.
I am using Vista and am relatively computer illiterate.  I am a poor grad student who can't pay Linksys $30.  I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.
    Thank you.

When I got to the third step (Checking the Router’s IP Address), nothing was listed for "Default Gateway" (message below).  I cannot get to step 4 (Getting the DNS Servers from a Linksys Router) as I cannot access the site (no internet connection through the router).

  • Base station no longer detected (see post also in Airport Express Forum)

I have stuffed up configuration settings for Airport Express via the Airport Admin Utility and can't undo them.
    - Mac OS X 10.5.3 on iMAC
    - AX Model number A1088
    - Airport Utility 5.3.2
    - Airport Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5
I originally set up AX on Tiger - no problems. I upgraded to 10.5.3 still no probs.
While trying to set up a wireless connection for my MP600R printer, I was 'experimenting' to help it find the access point. I went to Airport Admin Utility for G&S (don't know why!), clicked 'configure' and set up the base as WDS thinking this would help the printer detect access point. I had never previously touched Graphite and Snow and never set anything up.
Result was that Airport Utility/AX could no longer detect my network and I lost wireless internet connection.
I went back to Admin Utility but 'configure' button is greyed out. I tried manually connecting to network name but had password problems. I tried to reinstall AX from disc but I got an error saying AX not compatible with the selected drive (which is now 10.5.3)!! I reset AX but I can't restore passwords because AX Utility can't find my network!
    HELP!

Firmware is uploaded onto the base station itself and is different from AirPort Utility. Although you probably cannot confirm it without connecting to the base station, I think it highly unlikely that you use a firmware version earlier than 6.1.1 (which came out in 2004). If newer firmware is contained in software on your computer, AirPort Admin Utility and/or AirPort Utility should have prompted you to upload it to the base station, whereas if it is not on your computer, Software Update (assuming you use it) should have prompted you to obtain it. Even if your firmware is older than version 6.1.1, the reset procedure is virtually the same--in that case, you won't see the AX's status LED flashing rapidly a few seconds after you start holding the reset button, and you will just need to hold the reset button for 10 full seconds.
Once you connect to the base station, you should be able to see the firmware version (e.g., "Base Station Vx.x" where x.x is the firmware version) on the opening screen of AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow, when the base station is highlighted. I imagine that AirPort Utility shows similar information. I believe that in AirPort Utility, you can also check to see if newer firmware is available from Apple (choose "Check for Updates" in the AirPort Utility menu). To the best of my knowledge, the most current firmware version for AirPort Express is 6.3.

  • Airport Utility 6.0 doesn't detect my network after any change

10.7.3, Airport Utility 6.0, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, Airport Extreme and Airport Express base stations
How does one get Airport Utility 6.0 to see their network again after making any changes to one of the base stations?
When you make any change to any of your base stations airport utility no longer detects your network. All it shows is the internet and it says not connected. All base stations are all up and in the green except for one. From the airport drop down I verify I am on my own network and I can browse normally, yet Airport Utility 6.0, on any connected computer, does not see the network. An older version of Airport Utility is able to see all base stations normally, it is only 6.0 that has the problem.
The only work around I have found is to take an extra base station and reset it. I join the new base station's default network. Airport Utility sets things up, and the network reappears. The trouble is, Airport Utility changes the name of the network to the name of the computer I'm on at the moment. When I use airport utility to change the name back my network disappears again (in Airport Utility. So, I guess I'll change the name of a computer to my network name and try again.
Does anyone have a better way to make the network reappear in Airport Utility? I have tried connecting directly, base stain to Mac on both the WAN and LAN ports of the base station. I have tried using a Mac with a fresh install of 10.7.3 and AP Utility 6.0. I have tried shutting down my network and starting with just the main AP base station. Any other ideas to make my network reappear in Airport Utility after making any change?
(Tried restarting, new user, other laptops, fresh install, only one base station0

  • My iphone 4s is no longer detecting wifi since the ISO8 updates came out. I've restarted, rest the networks, reset the phone back to factory settings, and even tried the freezer trick. It is STILL not detecting ANY wifi networks. HELP!!!

My iphone 4s is no longer detecting wifi since the IOS8 updates came out. I've restarted, rest the networks, reset the phone back to factory settings, and even tried the freezer trick. It is STILL not detecting ANY wifi networks. HELP!!! I cannot afford to go over my data and I use wifi at home and work... I believe the updates have caused the issue, because it was working fine before the second update released (I hadn't put the first one one until I noticed it had stopped working, and by then the second IOS8 version had came out). They need to do a third update to fix this issue.

    If it's grayed out:
Reset Network Settings - if that doesn't fix it, then Backup and Restore AS A NEW DEVICE.
If it's still grayed out, unfortunately that means your Wi-Fi antenna quit, and it needs service.

  • [SOLVED] Network interface enp2s0 no longer detected

    Hello,
Yesterday after rebooting, right after Grub, systemd-fsck does its stuff (clearing blocks, etc...) then nothing.
After a quick research I've found that removing "quiet" from the Grub command line would allow more messages to be displayed, which was quite helpful.
This is in fact not a partition mounting problem, here is what I have:
[ OK ] Started Accounts Service.
[ TIME ] Time out waiting for device sys-subsytem-net-devices-enp2s0.device
[ DEPEND ] Dependency failed for dhcpcd on enp2s0.
    [ OK ] Reached target Multi-User System.
[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.
I obviously have a networking problem (and probably a "Graphical Interface" or Nvidia related thing problem), so I log in another console, and after doing ip link list, I only have the loopback listed, no enp2s0 or WiFi interface, for some reason they are no longer detected.
I've run the live version of Arch to mount and arch-chroot my partitions, not to mention my network interfaces are detected and I can upgrade things with pacman, I've tried to disable dhcpcd on enp2s0 to avoid the time out thing, and while I can say it does what it's supposed to do, it doesn't solve anything anyway since I'm still stuck at Reached target Graphical Interface. (and don't have any network access, to state the obvious).
I've even thought about a Kernel/Driver problem after an update, but I'm not sure, any idea or some log I can have a look at ?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Hi, My network went down earlier in the week.  Now it is fine, but my macbook airport no longer detects it and keeps asking for a WAP.  When I put the password in, it 'times out'.  I'm getting rather fed up.

Hi, My network went down earlier in the week.  Now the network is fine, I can connect through the ethernet cable, but my macbook airport no longer detects it, when prompted, macbook will find it, but I get asked for the WAP.  When I put the password in, it 'times out'.  Prior to the network problem my macbook worked fine everytime. Anyone know the answer?

My guess is all the issues are probably related and fall back to malware.
AVG is probably correct in identifying malware. So I suggest you try some cleaning tools other than Emsisoft .
    ones I use (all of them one after the other until I find one that can cope) are;
    Roguekiller http://www.adlice.com/softwares/roguekiller/
    Malwarebytes anti malware Free http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/var2/confirm/
    ESET online scanner http://www.eset.com/int/home/products/online-scanner/
So first create a clean boot in Windows using Microsoft's instructions https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135?wa=wsignin1.0 and then run the anti malware applications.
My outside looking in guess is that malware has set itself up as an internet proxy and is is downloading copies of itself and other malware, blocking some mail port as times as downloading more malware is more important, and probably breaking your tivo as well..
Try the malware programs first. If that does not work I will try and talk you through some logging to see what is happening.
