IPhone 3g after ios4

It's been slow, really slow. I used to use maps to look up an address and it popped up in less than 10 seconds. I'm still waiting over 2 minutes (it used to be 4 right after IOS4, the later updates helped....a little). I used to get a strong signal everywhere in my urban area (strong signal as in my calls were always clear and never dropped out, NOT just a display of 5 bars) Now i'm lucky to get a strong signal. I am a mailman and one spot i deliver to is about 45 FEET from an AT&T cellular tower (clearly labeled) and I get 2 bars!!!!! 2 Freaking bars at the base of an AT&T TOWER! ***! Don't even try to tell me that IOS 4 isn't designed to "compromise" any of the features of my old 3G phone, because getting only 2 bars at the base of your own providers tower is a SURE sign something fishy is going on! Friends of mine with the 4G phone can make and receive calls inside our store, which is apparently shielded as my phone and some from other networks get NO signal inside. This is over 11 miles from that same tower, the nearest one. Something very fishy going on here, that's for sure.

Oh yes, and If I use the iPod feature of my iPhone for more than 40 minutes, the phone locks up and goes into recovery mode leaving me with no phone all day until I get home and restore it with the home computer.

  • IPod on 3GS iPhone crashing after iOS4 install

    Anyone else having this problem?
Upgrade went smoothly. But I cannot use the ipod on my iPhone. It loads and then quits after a second or two.
I've shut down and restarted my phone, I've even done a hard reset by holding down the power and home button for 10 secs. Still no joy.
    Any help is appreciated.

Also having this problem. I should've noticed something was up when I ran some errands and noticed my 3 podcasts were gone. But I was able to listen to an album, so I shrugged and figured the podcasts were a casualty of the upgrade.
I re-downloaded those pods later. Went to listen to them and the podcast section of the iPod was still empty. iPod crashes. I re-open and try to see if the music still works. Crashes again, and has been crashing since.
These podcasts keep downloading successfully, but I have no idea where they're going.

  • No songs on iphone 3gs after ios4 update

I have just gone to shuffle my songs on my iphone 3gs, but the songs tab of my ipod is telling me there are no songs. I go to the album tab and all of my albums are there and I can still play the songs...
Slightly weird and annoying... anyone else experienced this?

I had the same fault after I did the upgrade. I just reconnected and forced a re-sync in itunes.

  • IPhone 3Gs after iOS4 update

I had no trouble updating to iOS4 which is great and I love but the only problem I'm having is my battery life. It doesn't seem to last long anymore. Given I am on my phone a little more frequent after the update but it just seems to be draining my battery a lot faster. I turned on and off my phone/ I restarted it by pressing the home and sleep button at the same time but so far It hasn't shown any improvement. Any ideas on what I could do if anything?

  • Itunes doesnt recognize my iphone 3gs after i upgraded to ios4.1

When did you upgrade to 4.1? 4.1 is no longer signed by Apple. It's no longer possible to (legitimately) install 4.1.

  • Iphone won't sync properly after iOS4.0.1

    Hi,
I'm writing here after searching the web and Apple and finding no clue on what's going on
I recently updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS4.0.1 and as a prerequisite I had to upgrade Itunes to 9.2.1.5.
After upgrading both my iPhone OS and Itunes I can't sync anymore!
    I can't sync my Contacts/Calendar/Apps/Music/Podcast etc...
    I keep getting errors like:
    1. Duplicate file name
    2. Device timed out
    3. can't write to disk
    4. File can not be found
    Solutions I've tried:
    1. Running Diagnostics via iTunes showed everything is working fine.
    2. Removed Apple USB controller and re-installed.
    3. Made a complete remove of iTunes + QuickTime + Apple software + Apple Mobile and reinstalled iTunes.
    4. Did over 20 Restores!!!
    5. On the Iphone chose to "erase" everything.
    6. on the Info tab, unchecked "Sync Notes".
    7. Removing any of iTunes music folders.
Nothing worked! I have a working phone, which I should be grateful for, but I can't sync my music, podcasts or my NIKE runs. I can't even downgrade back to 3.1.3 because it says Apple won't sign the firmware!
I heard that if I "Jailbreak" my device I can downgrade, but I don't want to void my warranty or harm my device.
    Can someone please help me?

Try turning your security software off - my laptop running Windows7 and Norton 360 was able to download the iTunes upgrade and work with my iPhone and iPad, whereas my Vista laptop with ZoneAlarm has never let me do an iPhone OS update with ZoneAlarm on, so I turn it off for OS updates. No need to turn it off for synchs after a successful OS update. Btw, I still have not been able to update iTunes on the Vista laptop no matter what I do (turn ZoneAlarm off, download only followed by manual installation of update, etc). Hope this helps!

  • IPhone 3GS with iOS4 - voice control does not work any more

Hi - I updated the OS of my iPhone 3GS to iOS4 and everything went well. But ever since I did the update the voice control comes back with strange results when I try to use it. It was working well enough with OS3. Has anybody the same problems and is there a solution?
    Thanks,
    Klaus

I'm experiencing basically the same as teardrop3d. I'm Australian (with voice settings on English (Australian)) and my 3Gs had at least 90% accuracy with both calls and music requests.
On iOS4 I've had a single correct result out of at least 30 attempts at using it.
Requesting "play playlist <name>" will often either start calling a seemingly random person from my phone book (different each time anyway) or sometimes a seemingly random number (I don't know where the number comes from, it's not in my phone book). Sometimes it'll actually offer to play music, usually a specific artist (not a playlist) and occasionally a playlist (but so far never the right one).
Requesting "call <name> <number type>" has worked once correctly, but usually just tries to call a seemingly random number from my phone book (or a number I don't know, not in my phonebook...).
As teardrop3d notes, the voice control screen stays up for about 2-4 seconds after I finish talking. It doesn't seem to be recording during this time, as the waveform stops responding to my voice but the screen sits there (with words moving past in the background still) as if its waiting for me to keep talking.
I've tried talking in different accents to no avail, and didn't get any better results with a different English language setting on the Voice Control (I'm not sure if that's actually listening for different accents or just responding in a different accent?)
This feature which I used to use multiple times a day to avoid having to take my phone out of my pocket while walking/riding is now useless. I continue to test it each day to see if it ever works, or if there are any behaviours that change it (e.g. locked vs unlocked or with music playing/not playing when I press/hold the mic-button, etc) but so far haven't found any workarounds.

  • Contacts cause crash and return to home screen after iOS4 upgrade

After upgrading our iPhone 3GS to iOS4, it crashes when clicking on contacts from the Phone app. The Contacts app itself will not open. This is making it extremely difficult to even use the phone to call anyone.
The same issue is also described in the following forum posts:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12041826&#12041826
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12002288&#12002288

Check Settings > Store and make sure the Apple ID that is shown is the same as the one used to buy the apps in question.
Also, try a Reset (hold down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red Off slider, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons).

  • Upgrading iPhone 3GS to iOS4 unable to import photos to iPhoto

After upgrading my iPhone 3GS to iOS4, I am unable to import photos to iPhoto. Also, iPhone does not turn up in iPhoto. Unable to find other ways to import photos from iPhone. No problems importing before upgrade. Anyone with a god solution?

I too had troubles with iPhoto and the iPhone Photo app. They are solved for now. Problem description and action take are as follows.
Problem 1 - Got a new iPhone 4 and upgrade my wife's iPhone 3GS to iOS 4. For both phones, when I connected them to iTunes to sync and selected on the Photo tab to sync my entire iPhoto library, nothing synced to the iPhones.
Solution 1 - I opened iPhoto to ensure my photo collection was indeed there. I closed iPhoto and tried to sync the phones again. This time, the sync took place, taking a long time since the thumbnail photo collection had to be created.
Problem 2 - I knew the photos were on the phones since the sync was complete. On the new iPhone 4, I could see the photos when I selected events or faces or places. The albums tab was blank. On the 3GS, it still looked like there were no photos.
Solution 2 - I shut down the iPhones holding both home key and the power button. I waited a minutes and restarted. Upon restart, both Photo apps displayed my photo collections properly - at least for now.

  • ICal crashing after iOS4 update

Since updating my iPhone 3G to iOS4 last week I have been unable to use iCal. It crashes about 10 seconds after opening. I have tried resetting the sync data and also have tried unselecting calendar syncing in .mac prefs but this has not worked. I have noticed that iCal has also created hundreds of untitled calendars. These appear in the calendar list both in iCal and on mobile me but not on my phone.
Can anyone advise please? Phone is working ok with no problems syncing to mobile me.
    thanks

Glad it was not just me ; )
I have now resolved this but it involves a bit of a workaround and the use of another Mac/iCal.
Using iTunes I restored my phone to the back up taken when I upgraded to iOS4 and switched off mobile me syncing on the phone.
I then set up my mobile me on another Mac's iCal and did a data reset replacing mobile me calendar data with the blank calendars in iCal. This got rid of the hundreds of calendars that had synced from the faulty iCal to mobile me.
I then used iTunes to sync the calendar data from the backed up phone to the other Mac's iCal (not using mobile me just iTunes with mobile me syncing turned off).
After checking online with mobile me that all was ok, I did a data reset from the other Mac's iCal to mobile me.
I then switched calendar syncing on again on my phone and created a test event which sync'd ok.
I then went back to my laptop with the faulty iCal and located the folder where iCal stored the blank calendars (Mac HD/Users/Your name/Library/Application Support/ICal/Sources. I deleted all the folders in the folder.
I then used system prefs/.Mac to reset the data on the laptop with data from mobile me.
This worked and I could then open iCal and since then all has been ok.
Not sure why all is working now, maybe after an upgrade the iPhone needs a full restore to get it working properly? Anyway, I hope this helps you sort this out.

  • IPhone 3GS and iOS4 problems! PLEASE help!!

yesterday i updated to iOS4 on my iPhone 3GS. everything was going well except my iphone would restart whenever it liked.
so i connected to iTunes & decided to restore it back to its factory settings to try and resolve the issue. now, the iphone screen says connect to itunes with the picture of the usb and itunes. and when i try to restore, "unknown error 29" comes up.
i don't know what to do anymore.

Ok this is wat happened to my iPhone 3GS after I opted to upgrade to iOS4.0:
After the upgrade file finished downloading, the installation process got initiated. However, after a few minutes, the process crashed throwing up an Error 1602. My phone just displayed the connect to itunes logo. I did a hard reset (by pushing the home button & the power on/off button simultaneously) and the phone entered the recovery mode (or DFU or watever it is called). I reopened itunes and connected the iphone again. This time, I was told that the phone has been detected on recovery mode. I clicked RESTORE & it told me that the phone would be restored to factory settings, which I chose. The recovery process started and after a coupla minutes, I got another error. This time it was Error 1601.
After spending a good 2 hrs researching the internet, I found the solution that did work for me. Here goes...U would need another computer for this (not the one u have been using to sync ur iphone with):
    1) Install itunes 9.2 on another computer.
    2) Connect ur iphone (while it displays the connect to itunes logo).
    3) itunes will detect an iphone on recovery mode.
    4) Click Restore. itunes will tell u that ur phone can be restored to factory settings. Choose OK.
    5) itunes will automatically download iOS 4.0
    6) once the download is complete, installation of iOS 4 should start immediately. if for some weird reason it doesnt initiate, press shift+restore and select the installation file (it is located in C:\Documenst & Settings\User\Application Data\Apple Computer\itunes\iphone software updates\xxxxx.ipsw )
    7) Once u've selected this file, installation will start & ull get a progress bar on ur iphone as well.
    8) The installation should come around fine & after a coupla automatic reboots, ur iPhone should now be up & running with iOS 4.0
    9) Itunes will ask you to name ur iphone. at this point, eject the iphone from the computer & connect it to the other computer (the one which u previously used to sync the iphone with). open itunes & ull get 2 options: Create a new iphone or restore backup from "Sandy's iPhone" [ur iphone's name]. Choose the 2nd option & watch ur iphone being restored with all ur backup.\
    10) once the sync is complete, eject & enjoy iOS 4
    Phew
    Cheers!!!

  • Slow and unresponsive after iOS4 update

While the new features are nice, the slow down is not.
My 3G now seems slow and unresponsive in all Apps and generally.
Not very happy with that to be honest, don't see why it should be slower.

I have had the same problem with my iPhone using the iOS4 update. I reset my iPhone and it was still slow. I also fully turned it off and waited a whole day and turned it on (resulted in a minor improvement to speed). I can't use multi tasking etc because I don't have the 3GS phone. I also had an issue where I couldn't open up iTunes!! I pressed the icon, and the phone froze in the iTunes screen without displaying any albums etc..... then it returned to the home screen. I repeated the process 3 times with the same result. It did eventually open up on the 4th time and played a song. I am not very impressed with the performance of my iPhone after the software update and will give it another week or so to see if Apple release any "fixes" after that I'm going to revert back to the old software.

  • How to FIX your iPhone 3G and iOS4 PROBLEMS!

Does anyone know how to fix my crippled iPhone 3G after I updated to 4.0.1?

The only way to go back to the old software has been described for you. It is not officially sanctioned by Apple. They do not provide a way to go back to former software. There is not currently a fix in iTunes, as the only thing iTunes does is provide a conduit for you to update firmware.
As provided before, Apple is addressing the issues with 3G and 3GS phones running slow with iOS4. According to developers with access to the iOS4.1 beta, it has been addressed there. You will have to either try the Genius bar as suggested, and I understand the distance issue, or you will have to wait for iOS4.1 to be released. If a restore as a new phone and a DFU restore do not work, then I'm not aware of any other alternative except what was provided above.
Edit: You might try and delete the iOS that you have on the computer and let iTunes download a brand new one. That might help.
