IPhone 3G frozen when I tried to upgrade to 3.1.2
This is not the first time my iPhone 3G gets frozen and unresponsive when upgrading.
Two months ago, when I bought it second-hand, I’ve tried to upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.1 and it was a nightmare that lasted for days...
Eventually I succeeded, after countless attempts using three different computers.
After I finally got to upgrade the phone worked really fine until now, when I was dumb enough to try upgrading to 3.1.2.
Now the phone is frozen and unresponsive, stuck on that black screen with the iTunes logo and the USB cable picture.
Here’s what I get every time:
“the iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (13)”.
I’ve already read and tried the following, without success:

I have a 2005 Jaguar xj8. When I tried to upgrade my 3gs to a 4g two years ago, I got a ticking noise in the speaker and no one on the other end could hear me. I had to go back to a 3gs. My phone is shot and I need to upgrade. Has there been a fix to the problem? Apple told me there was some sort of interference with the airbag system. Jaguar was totally unhelpful.

Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software. -
I have 2 Apple Ids on my phone I purchased an App on 1 id but when I tried to upgrade it used the other id and the App wouldn't accept it as different account name. Asking me to download the App for this id. but can;t because the App is already installed on my phone.
you have to use the same ID you used to purchase an App to update it.
Normally when you go to the App Store and tap update for an App your iPhone will prompt you for the correct ID needed to update that particular App, but if this is not happening, then you should go to Settings, Store, sign out of the other Apple ID and log in with the one you need to update the App that is already installed on your iPhone.. -

I have tried to restore my old iPhone 3, but when i tried the itunes logo and a pic of a USB cable have come up on my phone and now i cant do anything with my phone.Any ideas how i can fix this? As a rule syncing is one way, from the library to the device. There should have been a warning that media content on the device would be removed and replaced with that in the local library. If the content were still on the device it could be recovered with the steps in Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. You can redownload your qualifying past purchases from the iTunes Store, Amazon store, etc. Do you have the previous computer your device synced with, or a backup, from which the library could be recovered?

Put your iPhone into the recovery mode and try to update it again, to do so follow these steps:
Step One
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.
Step Two
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
Step Three
As soon as the screen goes black release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
