IPhone 3G Major Issues - Neither Apple or AT&T can explain.

I know this is much to read but please take the time and do so.
My mother has an iPhone 3G. Unfortunately for her, she has had nothing but problems. She purchased a 3G from AT&T about two months ago and for some reason it was doing the following: white screen of death, freezing, not receiving calls, will only get signal if she restarts it, we have to do constant hard resets. So we decided it was time to bring it to apple to get a replacement. We did that and they replaced it with no problem. Soon only hours later the phone began acting the exact same way. So I decided possibly it could have something to do with the SIM card. So the next day, we went to AT&T and got a new SIM with no problem. Same thing, only a few hours later the phone began acting crazy again. This is not a joke.
Now before I get a million responses saying to RESTORE (from backup and as new phone), do hard resets I need to tell everyone that I have restored about 10 times and probably hard reset 3 to 5 times a day. She owns a brand spanking new MacBook Aluminum 2.4 and it has absolutely no 3rd party programs at all. iTunes is updated and so is the iPhone 3G. Also, before anyone says anything about damaging or dropping the phone please know that I have already checked that out. Each one she has had has absolutely no scratches. The guy at the genius bar made the comment, +"this is the most prefect looking iPhone I have ever seen brought in"+
What are the chances that the replacement phone Apple gave us was defective also??? I know it is POSSIBLE, but really? Many would say just bring it back to Apple but I need to mention the nearest Apple store is 3 hours away from us.
Neither Apple or AT&T can explain to us what could possibly be wrong. I have spoken to about 5 people from each company and they each say, "well, you need to bring it (to the other company) ex. Apple says bring it to AT&T and AT&T says bring it to Apple.
Is there anyone else out there that possibly is experiencing the same problems?
In our family we ALL have iPhone 3G's. Five to be exact. They ALL work PERFECTLY except her iPhone.
This is crazy.

Is there anyone else out there that possibly is experiencing the same problems?
I venture to say there probably are and if so, knowing this certainly won't resolve the problem with your Mother's iPhone.
And I venture to say there have been some people who received an exchange under warranty and the exchange turned up having the same problem or there was another problem with it.
All I can recommend is requesting another exchange with Apple. You don't need to make an appointment at an Apple Store for this. You can handle everything over the phone by calling AppleCare at (800) 694-7466. If it is determined that your Mother's exchange needs to be exchanged and it certainly sounds that way, AppleCare will ship the exchange right to her door. Someone must be available to sign for the package, and she will use the same box to return the existing iPhone. The return shipping label is located below the shipping label to her, and Apple includes tape to reseal the box and a paperclip for removing the SIM card from the existing iPhone and placing it in the exchange. When the box is ready to be returned, you call the number included/provided with the shipment to have the box picked up by the designated carrier. AppleCare will also request a credit card number for the replacement in case the existing iPhone to be exchanged is not returned to Apple.

Why can't we track serial numbers and not the apple iD.   Since serial numbers can't be reset or erased. ?

Unfortunately it is in both Apple's and your carrier's economic interest to not provide such a feature. One would think that with all the technological capabilities that apple has provided us with that they would be able to do this as well. That's the point here, they are able to do it, probably quite easily; but it's economically beneficial to them if they don't. Remember, Apple doesn't provide the find my iPhone app as a pre-downloaded application, you have to do so yourself. One may say this is for privacy reasons, but there are clearly other reasons as well. So, Apple has no incentive to add such a feature unless it becomes an issue (customers demanding it or other companies providing such a feature). Thus as consumers we need to make this an issue that apple must address. I too lost my iPhone. The fact that Apple doesn't provide a feature such as allowing one to "flag" their device as stolen and thereby preventing that device from being unlocked, reset in itunes, or immediately turned into a tracking device when turned on is pretty frustrating and ridiculous. Apple provides very limited functions in their native find my iPhone app, and yet there are many more features it could provide. I'm aware of apps that provide far more capability, such as preventing shut down, taking pictures, taking audio/video recordings, remote backup, photo capture after failed unlock, call log, sms forwarding, and even constant GPS tracking. My point here is this, Apple can easily provide features that would further enable you to recover your apple device but there isn't an incentive to and there is actually economic incentive to not provide such features. We need to provide them with the incentive to do so, or else it is likely to never happen.

  • IPhone 5s Major Issue

I have had my iPhone 5s for around 6 months and have been happy with it and have no issues till now..
All of the sudden, through no perceived fault of my own(I haven't changed anything), tremendous problems have occurred.
First off, iPhone 5s running IOS 7.1.1(11D201) 16GB
    THE ISSUES
I first noticed the issues this morning when attempting to use SnapChat, the camera was just not loading and wen it did, it was not responsive with the focus.
I closed the app(Through Task Manager) and went to to the Camera app its self ad to which nothing. The camera would open up, show a black screen(With capture button) and then almost immediately close on its own. The camera is not working and shows no sign of changing that.
I then went to see if the camera would open from the lock screen(Swipe up) and the phone would just go to black screen, then display the Apple Logo(As on start -up) and then return to the Pre-Swipe-To-Unlock screen.
I have tried all the pre-mentioned tricks:
    Turning it off and on,
Adjusting the Voice Over to trick the system,
    Changing the Increased Contrast
    ETC
and still no fix, the next step would be taking the device to Apple, thought I'd check here first.
    Help Please
    Roderick

I must first apologize, it completely slipped my mind to update this but here goes.
    The appointment went as follows.
I arrived at my local Apple Store, to where I had made the appointment. After a short wait, I was seen by a Genius member. He approached me in a friendly manor and took me through the steps.
First thing he did was do a full reset, as if a new iPhone and the phone was cleared. Sure enough the camera still did not work. He then checked the warranty status, still covered.
He took my phone into the back room and told me to wait, I walked out the store and browsed the shopping retail park. 45 minuets later, I returned to the store and I was greeted with a friendly face and my iPhone.
Turned out it had a faulty camera and it was replaced in-store and returned to be in under an hour. To be frank, I was amazed, considering my sister had to wait a month to get her phone back from Samsung...
They even managed to replace the camera without damaging/removing my skin(full cover sticker).
Had I not been under warranty, it would have cost around £38(£37.??) which is a fair price reguardless
Apples care for customers is somewhat astounding
My phone is now in perfect working order.

  • My iPhone is stuck on the apple screen. How can I power it off?

How can I power off my phone,it is stuck on the apple screen?

    Hello GrayLady6,
Thank you for your question. It sounds like your phone is not responding and is stuck at the Apple logo. I would next reset the device with this process:
    Reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
From: Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If this does not resolve your issue, I would next attenot putting the device into recovery mode and then restoring it with iTunes:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

  • Iphone 5 no longer recognizes apple lightening cord to charge

So I have been on a quest the last few days to try and find out why out of the 4 iPhone users in our house, only 2 of us, owning the iPhone 5, have issues with cords and charging our phones. We have owned every generation of iPhones and own everything apple in our home. This is the first time I have ever had any problems with our apple products.
My problems started shortly after I bought the phone and found that my charging cables were dying constantly. Then I noticed it was happening to my other iPhone 5 user too. Eventually my daughters iPhone 5 started having battery issues. It would crash from  50% and down to 0% in no time. We were traveling with a group of parents and kids and saw the mophie juice pack and looked it up and purchased it for my daughters phone. After a few months her phone no longer recognizes any apple cords. We get the error msg about this accessory is not compatible. The same apple cord works on all of our other phones and the iPad mini.We have replaced her battery twice and after much research I was assuming that we would need to replace something internally that recognizes the charger. We have cleaned it too.
So this is where it gets weird, i use my thirty pin iPhone 4 charger and a lightning adapter and it works.
I also will mention we did a hard reset and finally an erase and restore.
After other posts I have heard smarties tell me only use apple products, well I am always using apple products, when available, to a fault, but apple sells the mophie charger on their site. After talking it over with other iPhone users, I have concluded it is the iPhone 5. My friends who have multiple iPhones in their home have only issues with the 5 and not the 5S.
It has major issues and apple is the one responsible. I have read about these Chinese made inferior products that are supposedly  the reason for the breakdown, but why have these products not been a problem until the use of the new lightning cable? And the chip in the cables does not seem to work well with the 5.
The 5 will not work with my expensive Honda that has all of the capabilities to work with a smart phone,  when it worked perfect with the 4s.
I am not sure how the iOS updates have to do with this as only seems to affect the 5 and not the 5s which runs on the same iOS.
Curious as to anyone else's thoughts on the matter.

Apple does not participate in the forum. If you want them to see your feedback, then you need to go to http://www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

  • Splitting an apple ID so we can use Friend Finder

How can I "split" an Apple ID so my wife and I can use Find Friends?
My wife and I each have an iPhone and share a Mac. We've always shared the same Apple ID.
We've updated to iOS 5 on our phones, but still run Snow Leopard on the Mac. Thus, we are not yet using iCloud except for Find My iPhone.
I used our current Apple ID for my iCloud account, and created a new email account for my wife's iCloud account.
To use the new Find Friends app however, my wife and I each have to have a separate Apple ID.I'll use our old Apple ID and I've created a new Apple ID for her.
But how do I "transfer" all of her existing iPhone apps to this new Apple ID? How can I prevent the accidental deletion of all her apps the first time she syncs with iTunes via her account on the Mac?

    Hmmm
My wife and I want the same functionality and we're achieving that without excessive battery drain by using Find My Friends.
We have Fetch New Data set to Push and we have the Fetch frequency set to Manual. (So our email only gets updated when we enter Mail.)
We're able to use Find My Friends and, as I mentioned, we haven't noticed any increase in battery drain.
However, we're frustrated with Find My Friends because it typically "locates" only within a very large area (like within a 1/2 mile to a mile) when we're either at work or home. Sometimes my wife wonders why I'm a 1/2 mile from home in a neighborhood park at 10:00 PM when I'm actually sitting at home.

  • HT201328 after unlocking from ATT and resetting iphone 3gs I keep getting the same error message "could not activate phone" neither Apple Store Tech or ATT were able to fix this . Any ideas?? TKS Sandro

after unlocking over the phone from ATT and resetting iphone 3gs I keep getting the same error message "could not activate phone" neither Apple Store Tech or ATT were able to fix this .
Itunes displays a message saying "there is no SIM installed in the phone you're trying to activate" even if there is the same SIM that was working minutes before.
The SIM works on a different phone I tested it.
    Any ideas?? TKS Sandro

“Could Not Activate EDGE” error message Update ...
Well it’s going on day 6 and still sporadic to no EDGE on my iPhone. At one time, it was thought to be a defective iPhone – since my partner’s iPhone works just fine.
After over three hours on the land line with AT&T and Apple, I was sent to the local Apple store for a replacement. Of course, as soon as I walked into the Apple store my iPhone worked just fine. ;-( The local store replaced my iPhone and suggested I go home and activate the phone as a NEW iPhone, that way if there was a bug in my data it would not carry over to the new phone. Did that and well… still sporadic to no EDGE. By the way, I have the Big White “E” to the right of the 5 bars and AT&T .
AT&T said last week they has “Software” issues in my area, but the CSR I talked to did not know what the issues were or if they were the cause of my problems. He did say they would call me back today to see how my iPhone was doing, but alas, no call back.
When I’m next to my partner, trying to access the same feature, his iPhone is just so fast. Mine hangs up, draws out and finally I get the error message, “Could Not Activate EDGE”. I am updated to version “1.1.4(4A102)”. New (refurbished) iPhone direct from Apple.
I remember reading a while back about some problems others had when they upgraded to from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4. I never had those problems, but it sure looks like they may have started. Does anyone remember what the problems with 1.1.4 were, what was done if anything to correct them, and best of all any suggestions?
By the way, this is Seattle, not some small – out of the way place where connection and signal strength is expected to be second rate. Also, I had full function of my iPhone from the day I bought it in June 2007, all the way up to Thursday March 20, at 2120.
    Thanks
    Joe

Apple Does Not recommend that. Please Read.

    From that article
    "Portables with built-in batteries"
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.
I rather think I will take Apples advice on using their equipment not yours, but I would be intrigued to discover what is it you know that Apple doesnt about its batteries?

  • Tap to click not working properly in Mountain Lion. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

The tap to click does not work with mountain lion as it did before the mountain lion install. I purchased a brand new imac in August of 2011 and got a wireless keyboard and selected the wireless trackpad instead of a mouse.  The trackpad worked wonderful pre upgrade with tap to click. Now after the install of the newest beast, I have to actually press the trackpad rather than a slight tap. I have carpel tunnel and this is causing great stress upon my hand. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

Perhaps, I was not clear enough.
I have an imac purchased in Aug. 2011 which came with Lion 10.6 (two uprades before mountain lion)
Recently, I just purchased a macbook pro retina with Mountain Lion
On my imac, my settings allowed me to "tap to click" everything EXCEPT the initial log in at the star up of my imac, again running Lion 10.6
On my macbook pro retina which has Mountain Lion, I set up the "tap to click" option, but notice that a "hard" click was neccessary when trying to click things. I thought this was a macbook thing (my first one) so I went and upgraded my imac to Mountain LIon, BIG MISTAKE! Now both my imac AND my macbook only have limited "tap to click" options. Before mountain lion I could "tap" to highlight and select text, tap and drag, and many other thiings that Mountain Lion has disabled.
I am truly surprised that no one has noticed this MAJOR issue.
Is there a way to uninstall this update, similar to how on a PC you can go back to a restore point.
On another note even the way PREVIEW has changed is less user friendly, there used to be icons on the bottom right corner of the screen, now I have to double tap and select the option I would like to switch between contacts and thumbnails. This is really annoying and is causing me time when reviewing files.
Just in case anyone was wondering, I did go to system preferences -> trackpad -> select tap to click
In fact almost all of the trackpad functions have been selected.

  • Issue with Apple ID, iPhone, iPad.

    Hello all..
I am using two iPhones and an iPad, all with just one Apple ID logged in from.
The problem is that now i am giving one iPhone to a cousin and don't know how solve the issue of the same Apple ID, as all my iMessages come on both the devices.
Same is the case witht the apps i download, all are synchronised alongwith my photo stream.
Please help me as to how can i seperate the Apple ID on one iPhone and is there a way that i can retain th Apps that i have downloaded and other settings.
    Please help, its really important.
    Thanks in Advance.,

Glad to hear you got it resolved, My issue is similar but we are no where near solving it.
I live in Austria and bought an iPad mini for my mother in Trinidad. Before sending it to her I wanted to set it up so that all she needed to do would be turn on and get going.
Everything worked except facetime and imessage with her Apple ID, both of which work on her iPhone 4 without a problem.
A call to Apple support did not help - the guy kept on insisting I create a new apple ID for these apps even they already work with her iPhone 4 with her existing Apple ID. I sent it to her in the hope that the gepgraphic location of the iPad mini would somehow make it possible.
She has not gotten it but cannot activate facetime or imessage on her end.
This seems to be an obscure bug of some sort. I wish there would be a readily available fix so she doesnt have to create a separate ID for these apps.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
