IPhone 4S camera focus fault... and serious0 AppleCare service failure

I wanted to add this thread in case others have the same issue.  I got a new 4S at launch and took quite a few pictures over the first few weeks (including unique ones of my new-born daughter). But when I finally got around to downloading them onto my computer, I found every single one was quite badly out of focus... something I'd not noticed on the small screen. (I wear glasses.)
I called Applecare, and arranged to send the unit back for replacement. But they have totally dropped the ball. A few days after sending it away, I got an automatic message telling me there was no problem, and they'd sent my phone back!
It's clear they've run software and hardware diagnostics, which of course failed to detect a lens optics problem. I reported it very clearly, describing the fault as  obviously an issue with the lens. But after calling Applecare just now it seems my report was simply logged as "camera not working", without my specific details.
I am of course very upset that I will have to be without my phone for a second period due to Apple's failure to record my detailed problem correctly. There's no Apple Store in my city, so I have no choice but to return it again by post.
So this is a heads-up to anyone with similar problems. DO NOT RELY on AppleCare listening competently, or diagnosing properly. If the problem is not one that would show up in automatic diagnostics, insist that they repeat back a wording that accurely represents the fault. And then probably include a detailed description with the box too, something I failed to do as I expected Apple to do their job properly.
Very disappointed. But hope this helps others with similar issues.

take this same rage your're throwing out here, and toss it to the little genius bar worker at your local apple store (perhaps a road trip is in order). convince them of your qualifications as a professional photographer, and explain to them that they are clueless, and inexperienced in professional photography. perhaps then they'll replace your phone.
the alternative is to continue whinging on this forum at how bad applecare is, which won't miraculously fixed the "lens optics" problem your phone is supposedly experiencing.  could it be that the camera lens had finger prints on it the day your pictures didn't work out?  when you mail in your phone next time, send along a print of the so called flawed images, along with a paper note to the tech documenting your exact issue?  does it take a genius to think that one up? apparently... your welcome.

  • My iphone 5 camera went black and flashlight off also, anyone deal with the same problems?

Another stupid thing, there are so many apple authorized reseller here who offer applecare but again applecare doesn't work in my country. Apple hasn't put my country on the applecare service list. Not even my provider can help repairing my iphone 5 camera. So what's my guarantee thing for? really?
Since i got my iphone 5 for two months, the camera started indicate some problems. It starts with blinking screen, it turn pink and flickering then freeze. It was still on iOS 7, so i thought by updating will help solving the bugs problem. I have restore it too, nothing really works. Now my camera just a total pitchblack screen that i cant operate anymore and even my flashlight stop functioned too now...

My phone worked for a maximum of 5 minutes, before lsoing signal. Disabled LTE and it works perfectly. Spoke to some Samsung mates and they had the same problem.

  • Tuxedo calls procedure and Application Level Service Failure

    hello ,professors all!
My Tuxedo Service just call an procedure exists in oracle9i, i am sure that the procedure runs ok in oracle9i individually, when it was called by my tuxedo service , it is not ok by first time ,and runs out tp application level Service failure error .But strangely it is ok by second time!
who can explan it to me and show me a way to solve the difficult problem?
i spend a lot time wondering the answer!
    Edited by: user9086437 on 2010-9-29 下午9:57

There are many possible reasons why a database procedure might fail the first time it is executed and succeed after that.
You should check the Tuxedo ULOG and Oracle database logs for any messages that may point to the problem.
If there is a LIBTUX_CAT:6205 or LIBTUX_CAT:6206 message in the userlog file then you need to add a tx_open() call to your server's tpsvrinit() or tpsvrthrinit() function.
If there is an OPENINFO string for the group where your server is running then you are using XA transaction management and should not be connecting to the database in your application code; if there is not an OPENINFO string for the group where your server is running then you need to connect to the database in your application.
If you set the environment variable
    TMTRACE=*:ulog:dye
for the server where the failure is happening then Tuxedo will write a trace record of each Tuxedo call and each XA call to the ULOG file. This can be helpful in determining why the failure is happening on the first call, especially if Tuxedo is handling transaction management using XA.
I hope some of this is of help in debugging the problem.

  • Iphone 4s Camera freezes, crashes, and shutter stays closed.

Whenever I try using the camera the shutter opens normally. But sometimes, when the screen tries to focus, the image freezes, a portion of the screen goes bright purple (or a number of other colors lately) before going black, and the shutter closes like I took a picture. Then it just stays closed and won't open.
I've tried suggestions from other support discussions such as turning it off and on, rebooting my iphone, and removing/cleaning the sim card but none of those helped.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on or have any other suggestions?

    Hello totodog8,
I would recommend resetting the phone first, with this process.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
From: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
IF that does not resolve the issue, I recommend restoring your phone with iTunes.

  • Iphone 3G camera has green and purple stripes

I have a 3G iphone that was working perfectly. All of the sudden, these green and purple "noise" lines started showing up just in the camera app. I restored the software and that didn't get rid of it. I also pinched the case to see if maybe something was loose- still no go.
I know that I'm not the first person to experience this problem but I was wondering if someone had figured out what exactly is causing the problem. Is it the camera itself? Like I said, it was working fine.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Phil

it was from the display protector on the screen?
Most likely that is the reason.  I have a screen protector on and see similar issues when the iPhone is not on.  They're not noticeable when turned on.  Remove it and see the difference.

  • Some how my Iphone 4 camera is black and white how do I get it back to color

My son was playing with my phone and now the camera is in black and white.  Does anyone know how to get it back to color

The phone does not do that on its own.  You actually need an app for that.  Try resetting the phone: press and hold the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the slider if you see it.  The phone will power down and up again.

  • No compensation for BT fault and loss of service??...

    Hi All,
I have been with BT for years and years now and to be honest havent had that many problems with them.....except now!
Friday 15th June 2012 I called home from my mobile to be greeted with the message that the line was in use and could try later (something along those lines). I immediatly knew something was wrong as no one was at home to be on the phone. I continued to try to ring home through the afternoon to be greeted with the same message. When I arrived home that evening I tried to call the line again from my mobile whilst standing in front of the phone to get the same message. When I picked the phone up, there was a dead tone, no dial tone nothing. My first thought was that the phone, which had now started to have seen better days, was in need of being replaced. Unfortunatly as I didnt get paid for another week I had no option but to wait until I could buy a new handset, luckily I had my mobile for emergencies. On 26th June, I brought a new handset through the BT shop. When it arrived the next day I charged it for a bit then plugged it in...nothing!. Still no dial tone or working handset. I called BT faults dept to report the phone. The man went through the basics with me and was adamant there was no fault showing on the line check. After me having to advise I have done all the checks AND brought a new handset did he agree to send an engineer round to the house. This was only after telling me that if the fault did lay with me I would br charged £99. The engineer was booked for Saturday 30th June. The engineer came (out of his time slot) and wow what a miserable engineer he was. As I have not long paid to have my house re carpeted, I advised him that he would either have to remove his work boots or put the blue overalls over the soles. He had a good old moan about it before he went and changed his work boots to slip on shoes to remove when entering the house again. I advised the engineer what was the query and he tested the box on the wall. He advised that the line was showing as working fine and it was strange that I had no telephone service but I had working internet. He then did some other stuff and told me the line fault was was at the exchange and would need a specialist engineer to look at it. He said he would go and have a look at the green cab across the road and contact me on my mobile to let me know what was happening. I never did receive a call so waited in for an hour not knowing if I should leave the house or not.
After looking at the fault tracking online on the Monday it stated the fault should have been resolved on Saturday 30th. This clearly was the case. Through the week, it took me 6 phone calls to find out what was happening re my line and when it would be working. I was advised by a manager that she was looking after the query and she would be updating me through the time the line was not in service........never did I get 1 call to advise me what was going on.
Eventually on Thursday 5th July the phone was fixed and I was able to use it again. On Thursday evening, I called BT faults line to find out about compensation as I had been out of service for nearly 3 weeks. The man on the line advised that he would refund me back the cost of the line rental as compensation. I advised that this would not be acceptable as I should be refunded that anyway for loss of the line not working, Im not paying for something I cant use. I said I wasnt happy and wanted to speak to a manager. The man went away and got his manager who advised that the most he could offer as compensation was £10. I told him that I found that a joke as for 3 weeks I had had no service, had purchased a new phone, used my mobile and used my time to chase up a fault. I declined the offer of £10 and said I would contact Head Office. On Friday 6th July 2012 I emailed the high level complaints team and as of today have had no response.......Im absolutly disgusted at this. I would like for someone to look into this matter and contact me back as a matter of urgency in regards to a sensible offer of compensation.
I look forward to hearing from someone soon!
    Kind Regards
    Michelle McCabe

  • IPhone 4 camera and photo application not working!!

My iphone 4 camera and photo applications do not work anymore. When I tried to take a picture, the camera froze. I turned off my phone and when i turned it back on, the app will load, but when i tap to take the picture it returns to the home screen. The picture library application does the same thing. I try to load my picture library and when I tap to open it, it returns to the home screen.
I have tried turning it off and on multiple times and also turned it off for an extended period of time and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions on what the problem could be or possible ways to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Tap Settings App>General>Reset, near bottom of list>Reset All Settings. If this does not help you could try a Restore with iTunes, and when asked at end Set Up as New. If this does not help and you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

  • Problems with iPhone 6 camera and snapchat

So I got an iPhone 6 with 16 GB of storage for christmas. Overall, I'm very pleased with it, but the one thing that has been bothering me is the camera; both the regular one and on snapchat. Nothing is wrong with the front camera, but it is the camera on the back where there are problems. On photo, square, and the insatgram camera, nothing is wrong except the screen gets a little darker, but the screen gets noticeably darker on video, and almost completely dark on time-lapse, slow-motion, panorama, and snapchat. I know for a fact that the problem is not caused by my phone's case, the screen's brightness, or anything else in front of the camera, focus, HDR, etc. I've read that the problem with snapchat is that the application itself has not yet been updated and optimized for the newest iPhones, but maybe there is another problem with the phone itself. I'm probably going to just take it to the apple store but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this on their iPhone. By the way, I am on IOS 8.1.2

Service issues could be for any reason, location cellular carrier problems, anything. The phone heating up, does this mean you were using the phone for a period of time? If you are using the phone for things, it will heat up some, as the processor works, the way to dissipate heat is through the case. There is no fan like on a computer. The end call button is a red circle, so I don't see what the problem is there. On the iPhone 6, there is a Reachability feature, which allows you to slide the view of the screen down slightly to allow you to access the top part of the screen without moving your hand.
You have the ability to take it to the Apple Store to get the device checked if you like, just make a Genius Bar appointment.

  • IPhone 4S camera will not focus

My iPhone 4S camera is not focusing, it is the camera on the back. One time I tried to take a photo of a document on paper and it just wouldn't focus on the writing, I turned my phone off and on and then it seemed to be working and focusing again. Recently today I tried doing the same thing but it wouldn't work. I tried turning it off and on but still no luck, a friend told me it was because of the 6.0.1 update that it wasn't focusing but I'm not sure. If someone can help me out that would be really appreciated, thanks

Front screen of my iPhone 4s is cracked, it freezes/lags, camera flash doesn't work, and every time you press a bit harder on the front screen red and grey vertical lines appear. I have had it for more than a year now, so how much will it cost for me to replace it?

  • My iphone6 camera is rear , and focus dosnt work in it , although my front camera is working great

My iphone6 camera is rear , and focus dosnt work in it , although my front camera is working great

    Hey there Aydarezania,
It sounds like you are able to focus using the front camera, but the back one doesnt seem to. I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article, named:
Get help with the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
Your photos are blurred or out of focus
If your photos are blurred, out of focus, or have dark spots, try these steps:
Make sure that the camera lens is clean. If you need to clean the lens, use a microfiber cloth. If you see dirt or debris inside the lens, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.
Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
With iPhone 6 Plus, a metallic case or magnetic lens could interfere with optical image stabilization. If you have a metallic case or magnetic lens attachment, try taking a picture without it. Then compare the quality.
Adjust the focus by tapping on the person or object in the preview screen. You’ll see the screen pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as the camera adjusts. In photo mode, try to stay steady when adjusting the focus. If you move too far in any direction, the camera will automatically refocus to the center. In video mode, you can adjust the focus before you begin recording.
If the color seems too bright, or you see double-exposures of moving objects, make sure that HDR is set to Auto or Off. Tap HDR at the top of the screen to choose a different setting.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling
