Iphone 5 not connecting to time capsule

Hey guys, i have a time capsule which my iMac has no problem connecting to my wireless network. However recentley i have been unable to connect my iPhone 5 or my iPad 2 to the network. When i select the network in my wifi settings on the phone the pinwheel just spins next to it and never puts the little check mark next to the network name. Why can i connect with my desktop but not my mobile devices?

Hey brianb23,

  • Two iPhone 4s not connecting to Time Capsule

    Hello,
We have a Time Capsule in our office and both my boss and myself are unable to connect to it via our iPhone 4s. I got mine on release day and he bought his last week. We have both tried resetting network settings and restarting, but to no avail.
Additionally, we set up the Guest network on the Time Capsule and attempted to connect to that, but it still didn't work. The iPhones are both on iOS 4.2.1, but this problem existed on 4.1 as well, the Time Capsule is also up-to-date. Other devices such as a MacBook Air and several Windows machines are able to connect via both wired and wireless connections without issues.
Is there any reason why these 2 iPhones are unable to connect to the Time Capsule?
    Thanks,
    Daniel Samuels.

  • IPhone will not connect to Time Capsule Wi_Fi

After replacing my Airport Express with a Time Capsule, I cannot get my IPhone or wireless printer to find the Wi-Fi signal

Use simple SMB type names for the wireless, short, no spaces .. pure alphanumeric.
    Use WPA2 Personal security.
Lock the radio channels used.. particularly by 2.4ghz.. 1, 6, 11 try each in turn.

  • Iphone not connecting to time capsule wifi

I recently got comcast connection via modem and it took me forever to connect it to my mac book pro (MBP), time capsule and iphone. Everything was working fine till yesterday, the modem was connected to the time capsule and my MBP and iphone were connected to the time capsule via wifi and life was beautiful. Yesterday, by mistake I disconnected the modem, plugged it back in but could not reconnect the iphone to the time capsule wifi. I hooked up my MBP to the modem, went to network> assist me> and was able to get the MBP to connect to the modem and also to the time capsule as wifi (like before). The MBP works fine as wifi, it will only connect to internet with the ethernet cable or as wifi, but not both. If I set the ethernet on the MBP, then it says "airport has a self-assigned IP address -------- and will not be able to connect to the internet" and gives the same message if I connect successfully to airport using assist me and reboot the modem, then it works fine as wifi but ethernet stops and says "ethernet has a self-assigned IP address -------- and will not be able to connect to the internet". Anyways, I am ok using ethernet or wifi on the MBP, but my iphone does not connect to the time capsule at all, it detects it but does not connect to it. I have tried putting in the IP address, subnet mask, router, dns and search domain as static into the iphone using the MBP airport settings. If I enter these as static, the iphone connects to the time capsule but there is no internet. I have the aiport utility app on my iphone which gives a green light for both internet and the time capsule. But my iphone has a 3G sign at the top right, no wifi sign at all. I also changed to airplane mode and then tried to connect to the time capsule, no luck there. I also reset the network settings in the iphone but no luck. From earlier posts on this, I also checked the channel settings, it is both 5 and 2.4 gHz, so no luck there as well. Please help. I need wifi on my iphone to keep my bill down. Thank you so much.

I just want to add that I can connect the iphone to wifi at the office. So the iphone hardware is ok. Please help

  • IPhone not connecting to Time Capsule

I had posted this on the Time Capsule forum, but I'm hoping to get a bit more visibility here to see if anyone knows what to do. Here's the deal:
I currently have my wireless network setup via Time Capsule and it's always worked fine until today. Now, the network continues to work fine for my laptop and my PS3, but when my iPhone tries to connect, it always says it has the incorrect password, despite the fact that that isn't true. Similarly, when the iPad tries to connect, it has the right password, but doesn't stay connected, instead it oscillates between "not connected" and my network every second or so. I've tried setting up a new network, changing the channel, etc, but alas, the problem seems to continue. Anyone know what might be going on?

Found the answer myself : it seems to be something to do with the latest version of firmware (7.5.2)
In Airport Utility, select manual configuration of the base station : click on the word "version" next to the number to revert to the correct firmware file.
This is where I found my TimeCapsule firmware version 7.5.1 :

  • My iMac will not connect to time capsule used as base station in my roaming network

I have a network that is made of up a Time capsule as a base station and 3 airport express's used to extend my wifi coverage. It is setup as a roaming network with each express hardwired to the base time capsule. I have a iMac that will not connect to the base station, it will only connect to one of the remote express's. The iMac is next to the base satation. Other mac notebooks, iPhone or iPads all connect to the base station when they are near it. Only my iMac will not connect to it. Any suggestions as to why this is happening or steps I can take to fix this.

    Hello FoxFamilyVA
Check out the first article below to go through some troubleshooting options to get your iMac to connect to your Time Capsule. I would go through and remove it from the list of known networks that you join and then add it back in. I would also recommend that you try and create a new Network Location to see if there is an issue with your current configuration.

  • Can not connect to Time Capsule hard drive when I am not on its network.

If you can help me, I will be forever grateful!
I had a airport extreme with a hard drive that I used to back up my computer and to access my files when I am on the road. (Everything worked perfectly)
I switched to the Time Capsule.
I am now unable to connect to my Time Capsule drive when I am on the road.
I get this message: The server "time capsule name"may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
    Some notes:
-I am using the same exact modem at home I have been using this whole time
-I am connecting using the same connection I did when I connected with my airport extreme
    -I can connect to mobileme
-My mobileme name and password are in the advanced options in the Capsule
    -My firewall is OFF
-My back to my Mac option is ON in Mobileme preferences
-I have the most up to date OS package
-I have the most up to date capsule version

  • Solution for Windows 7 can not connect to Time Capsule Guest network

Problem: Sony Vaio running Windows 7 (64bit) will not connect to my Time Capsule Guest network
For added security, I set up a guest network at home. My friend brought over a Vaio and was unable to get an internet connection via my Guest network. The Vaio connected to the Time Capsule with no problem, with full bars, but was not able to get on the internet.
After way too many hours going through useless online suggestions and even calling Apple tech support to see if there might be a known compatibility issue (where I was told they had no idea and I should call Mr Softy) I discovered that the Vaio had somehow set itself to use the DNS Server address of the Time Capsule, main network, not the guest network. (ie Main network uses 10.1...., Guest uses 172.1....) so once I set the Vaio to Obtain DNS server address automatically it fixed the problem and connected to the internet via the Guest network.
    Detailed solution:
Configure Time Capsule Guest as follows:
Network Name: fill in the blank
Allow Guest Network to communicate: left unchecked
    Guest Network Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Password: fill in the blank
    Configure Vaio:
Set up new connection from the Network and Sharing center using the name given to Guest network
(for password chose WPA2-Personal>AES>then your Guest Password)
Select Manage wireless networks from left column in main Network and Sharing center window
    Select Adapter Properties
Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to highlight it, and Select Properties
Make sure both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected then OK & go back to Network and Sharing center
    Connection is active.
Hope this helps those condemned to playing system admin for their windows brethren

    Great post!
Here are a couple of more methods to add to your bag of tricks:
Method #1: Use Win7's built-in diagnostics to remedy network maladies
    • Start > Start Search > type in: ncpa.cpl <Enter>
    • Select current active connection.
    • Click Diagnose this connection
    • Select Reset the network adapter
Method #2: Use the ipconfig tool to renew the DHCP-provided IP address information
    • Start, then click Run, and then, type: cmd, and then, press <enter>
    • At the prompt, enter the following commands; press <enter> after entering each one:
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

  • Time Machine will not connect to Time Capsule

    Hi All,
I have run into a problem that is completely perplexing me, so I'm looking for some kind help.
    Here's the set up:
At home we have two macs, one is an older PowerBook G4 on 10.5.8, the other is a MacBook Pro on 10.6.8.  Everything is working perfectly on the MacBook Pro, so that's sort of the control machine.  Everything was working perfectly on the PowerBook until about two days ago.
We have a first generation Time Capsule that we use both as our Time Machine backup disk and as our wireless router.
Connecting to the wireless router part of the Capsule works perfectly (I'm using it as I write this post).  Using the Finder to manually load the shared network drive from within the Time Capsule, also works perfectly.   I can connect to the Time Capsule with the Airport Utility and set all the settings to my hearts delight.
The problem comes when I open up my "Time Machine" preferences and try to choose the disk as my backup disk.   Two days ago I got a new external Firewire drive that I keep offsite in my office to have a back up there.  So when I got the new drive I plugged it in, went to the Time Machine preferences, changed the disk and it did a back up to the new disk.  Then when I got home I tried to change the Time Machine back up disk back to the Time Capsule disk and it just won't do it.
I see the Time Capsule disk in the list of available disks, I choose it, it asks for my password, but then when I click "OK" I get an error that says:
Connection failed.  There was an error connecting to the server.  Check the server name or IP address and try again.  If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator.
This obviously is quite perplexing to me because I clearly can connect to the backup disk since I can do it from the Finder.  I have tried restarting everything multiple times.  I have tried trashing my com.apple.TimeMachine.plist.  None of that seemed to help, so I'm looking for some other suggestions.  As I said the MacBook Pro is working just fine, so I'm thinking that there must be some setting on the PowerBook that is getting screwed up for some reason.
    Thanks,
    Q

I am having the exact same problem. My MacBook connects to the Time Capsule just fine and is able to view the files stored on the Time Capsule, but the MacMini doesn't. The MacMini "connects" to the Time Capsule, in the sense that it can use the connection to surf the web but in the Finder it says connection failed when I try to browse for files stored on the Time Capsule.
Is reloading the OS the only solution?
    Thanks

  • IPhone location not working with time capsule

I just got my first time capsule. I noticed my iPhone can no longer find location. How do I get this ability restored?

Go to this website here http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php and submit your MAC address Examples: 00-1C-10-30-97-00, 00:1C:10:30:97:00 or 001C10309700, this should be on the bottom of your time capsule.

  • Time Machine can not connect to Time Capsule

The problem is Time Machine sees the time capsule, then when I put my password in, nothing. This is driving me nuts...

Help! I have the same issue, and renaming the disk is not helping. I renamed it to "TCDisk" (without the quotes of course) and it still does not work. Same problem occurs. The disk is renamed in Time Machine Preferences, but I still cannot select it. I enter my password once, and it turns TM off, and I enter it again and the slider stays "on" but the disk is not selected, and the "choose disk" option is still available. Also, the other computers on my network can select the drive as their Time Machine backup location. Only mine is not able to. I configured the TC through my machine, if that makes a difference. Do I need to change some other settings or what? Please help me out. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Can't connect my new iPhone 4 with internet via Time Capsule. IP4 recognized TC but will not connect with it. (Password etc. is ok)

Can't connect my new iPhone 4 with internet via Time Capsule. IP4 recognized TC but will not connect with it. (Password etc. is ok)

    Do the usual wireless things.
Change the wireless name to simple name with only alphanumerics and no spaces.
Set to manual and use channels 1, 6, 11 in turn.
For testing take off the security altogether.
The iphone only works on 2.4ghz so only that band is relevant.

  • Imac connects to time capsule through wifi but ipad and iphone will not connect

I just installed the new Airport Time Capsule.  My Imac connects fine through wifi bit my ipad and iphone will not connect to the wifi.  They appear in the wifi settings in the devices but will not connect.  I have reset modem and time capsule and tried forget network and nothing is working.  ANy assistance would be appreciated.  Thanks

So I called apple support being fairly certain that I wasn't going to be able to fix this over the phone but essentially, it now works flawlessly with my iOS devices. Here is what I did.
I have a Motorola cable modem surfboard 6421.
I reset my network settings to dhcp and NAT from the default bridge only mode which the tech said only allows one device to connect at a time. Considering my MBA was already connected to the AE, that would explain why my other iOS devices wouldn't connect. After I changed the settings for the network to DHCP and NAT, the router restarted. I then disconnected the power and coaxial cable from the cable modem and reconnected it and once everything came back up, all devices connected fine. Good throughout and signal. Hope this helps.

  • Devices (iPad, iPhone) no longer can maintain wifi connectivity with time capsule

My iPad and iPhone can no longer maintain wifi connectivity with time capsule.   Time capsule has connectivity to internet via Macbook, but not other devices.  This started after upgrade of devices to s/w 6.0.  Does anyone know if that could impact connectivity?

Yes, this is often reported with iOS 6.. there are definitely more wireless problems.
I recommend you reset the TC in the following ways.
    1. Change all names to SMB type.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. that includes the TC itself, wireless and hard disk. I recommend a different name for 5ghz so you can force clients to that band without auto voodoo affecting it.
    2. Use WPA2 Personal security only.. 8-12 character pure alphanumeric passkey.
    3. Lock the wireless channels.. particularly for 2.4ghz.. pick one of the channels, out of 1, 6, 11 as these are the only ones that do not overlap.. test each in turn for the best and most stable. TC should pick the best itself but that is voodoo and I am preferring to run the system without black arts.
