Iphone 5c: Screen cracked, disappointed in Apple

So long story short... Or as short as possible.
Im a big Apple fan, have multiple i-products and a MacBook. My daughter is following in my footsteps with her iPad and an iPhone 5C that she got for Christmas.
One of the reasons we've chosen Apple, is the impression that they give great customer service, and always go above and beyond. (Just look at all the stories online in different Apple forums with people cracking a screen on their iPad, and getting it replaced out of warranty etc.. It seems to be a fairly common occurrence, that people get a goodwill repair and/or replacement...)
Anyways, she came to visit me in Denmark from Canada, for a few weeks, and the other day another girl bumped into her in a store: Her iPhone 5c thats she's holding hits the floor, and bam! The screen has a huge crack, but its only the outer glass thats damaged, and the phone works normally despite the visual crack.
We go to the Apple store in Sweden the next day (there are none in Denmark), to hear what our options are, and the service technician who checks out the phone lets us know that the out of warranty screen replacement (fall damage) will cost us 240$, per Apple Stores policies.
Since the phone originally is from Canada however, and since the phone is under her moms contract, we tell him that we need to confer with her and see what we're going to do. The phone is still working perfectly, so waiting a couple of weeks and getting the screen replacement done in a Canadian Apple store would be significantly cheaper. The tech tells us, that this is fine, and we're welcome anytime to come back and get it done with them if we change our mind, since "we're here for you' or some schlock like that...
Two days later while at home, the phone seem to completely die on us: Screen goes black and it doesn't seem to respond in any way.
Now I've had both an HTC and a Samsung phone die on me from one minute to the next, where the whole motherboard/phone was replaced under warranty, so I know that it DOES happen that a component on the motherboard dies for some reason or another. And since the phone has been working fine for three days after the drop, its unlikely that this is related to the phone being dropped.
So back to the Apple store we go...
We get the same tech that helped us the other day, and after taking the phone out back, he comes back and tells us that they would need to replace the whole phone, and since the phone has been damaged already, we'd have to pay around $400 for the replacement. (Out of warranty replacement, despite the phone being less than 9 months old).
I point out, that this hardly seems reasonable, since despite the outer glass screen being cracked, Apple should still be responsible for the internal parts failing under warranty. (Heck, my former Samsung phone also had a crack on the screen, but that didn't stop them from replacing the motherboard...) And since he saw the phone work fine despite the cracked screen a few days earlier, he knows that it happened well after the crack appeared.
When we left three days previously, he also said that we're welcome back any time to get the screen replacement done, and didn't say anything about us voiding our warranty on the phone, by not having it fixed right then and there.
I ask him if he's positive that the whole phone needs to be replaced, instead of just a screen replacement, and what their diagnostic computer told them out back when they connected it. He said that it was completely dead, and gave an odd explanation about water damage, from water entering through the cracked screen. (Despite that they never opened the phone to check for water damage.)
Now while I'm back at home, I just found out that my Macbook&iTunes can talk to the phone just fine, and it shows up like before, despite the screen being dead. Which means that the Apple tech lied to me, and couldn't be bothered with hooking it up to a computer at all...
I got to say that I'm really disappointed in the service the Apple store showed us. No, I didn't expect to get a brand new phone thrown at us free of charge, but I did expect to get great service, or at least the same level of customer friendly service I've seen in the past when I still had my Samsung and HTC, instead of a tech who couldn't even be bothered to diagnose the second error to see whether just a screen replacement would fix it or not.
Any advice as to what to do next? Would we be better of with trying with a different Apple store, or an Apple store in Canada, or is this the new level of customer service in Apple Stores in general?
I could get the screen replaced elsewhere for around 100$, though I'm not 100% sure if it would fix the error or not. (It seems that it would, since iTunes recognises the phone just fine...) It would void the warranty, but right now my faith in that warranty isn't very high anyways.
I'd appreciate any advice, thanks!

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

Why would you want to pay anyone to crack the screen?  You can easily do that yourself for free.

You should take your phone into an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider and have it replaced for a fee.

my IPhone 4 screen cracked and cant type my passcode so was not able to complete backup on ITunes as kept on asking me for passcode! can anyone help please?

sounds like you won't be able to do a backup.  Hopefully, if you've been using your phone as directed, you've been backing up frequently so you won't have much data loss.

  • Do IPhone 6 screens crack easily?

I have an IPhone 6 with a cracked screen.  The phone still works, and I don't want to be without it and have to mail it in for repair.  Can't get through to my local pole store:  Does anyone know if local Apple support centers are fixing cracked IPhone 6 screens?

We have no idea where you live. You'll have to call them yourself and find out.

  • Iphone 4s screen crack

i accidently dropped my iphone 4s and the screen cracked will apple repace it for free or do i have to pay.

Apple will not replace it for free.
If the iPhone remains under warranty, accidental damage is not included with the standard one year warranty. The warranty is a limited manufacturer's warranty only, not insurance.
If you purchased the newer AppleCare extended warranty when the iPhone was purchased new, the newer AppleCare extended warranty extends the standard one year warranty by an additional year and includes some insurance covering accidental damage. There is a $50 dollar deductible with such an exchange with a two claim limit over the two year period.

My screen cracked just being in my pocket what do I do???

Apple will service your phone and replace the screen. But, since this is not covered by the warranty, you'll have to pay for the exchange of the screen:
    Screen repair service pricing
Repair and replacement costs depend on your iPhone model and your AppleCare product coverage. Apple will run a diagnostic test to determine whether your iPhone has experienced additional damage. If it has, or if it needs other repairs, you may need to pay an out-of-warranty service fee. Accidental damage isn't covered under the Apple One Year Limited Warranty.
    Model
    Screen repair cost
    iPhone 6
    $109
    iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5
    $129
Plus a $6.95 shipping fee, if required. Fees are in USD and exclude local tax. Pricing is for service through Apple. The final service fee we charge will be determined during testing. Pricing and terms vary for service through an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • IPhone 3GS screen cracked

My frind dropped her iPhone 3GS today. The screen cracked but still works. Is there a way to get a new screen yet? If so how much? Bc I know Apple does not cover drops. Or is she better tio buy a new phone? Like my old 3G or my orginal iPhone

Apple will now even replace your screen only, so if your buttons and things are working, no need to get the entire phone replaced. You can also be really, really, reallllly nice to them and they may replace the screen for free. Say that you were shoved and it flew out of your hands or something. They don't have to of course, but since it's a relatively new phone, they may have a little bit of pity

  • Iphone 6 screen cracked

In less than a week, my phone with a cover on along with a $40 screen protector( life time warranty), the screen on the iphone 6 cracked, no scratch on the body of the phone but screen cracked Phone is fully functional. Hopefully with so many issues with the iphone 6 and 6 plus already Apple will take care of this without any charge

After waiting 5 weeks for my new Iphone 6, My phone arrived with a cracked screen right out of the box.  The phone was never dropped, **** never used.  Apple is reluctantly making a "one time exception" and replacing the phone since I have owned the phone less than 24 hours.
This is our families 11th total Iphone and the first screen issue we have experienced. I have owned an iphone 4 for the last 4 years and still looks new.  Looking at this iphone 6 and knowing it is an Aluminium chassis I have to  wonder if this phone has crossed the durability/thinness line.  Between the bending and cracking screens, this phone does not appear to nearly as durable as previous versions.

  • Do I have to pay to get my iPhone 6 screen repaired at the Apple Store if it is a hairline crack?z

I just finishef talking to apple support and I was telling them I have a hairline crack and if it would be covered under my warranty if I got it fixed at the Apple Store but they told me it wouldnt be under warranty it'll be a accidental cost and I would have to pay averagely $109 and I've been reading discussion boards saying you don't have to pay for hairline cracks. So I was wondering if someone can ensure me if i would have to pay for the crack? Thank you

Read your warranty and don't always believe everything you see here. The truth is what the manager tells you. Unless the crack was a manufacturing defect you discovered when you purchased the phone, then the presumption is it was caused by the user.

  • My Iphone 4s screen cracked by itself!!!

    Hello there,
I went to a dinner tonight and my Iphone was in my bag. I took it out and took some pictures it was absolutely fine. I put the phone back in bag and after coming home I took it out and the screen was all cracked!!! I couldnt believe on my eyes. Without any reason how the screen can be like this!! I didnt drop it anywhere and there was nothing in my bag that can hit it. Also my phone was in a cover and a shield on the screen. Its really really weird.
I'm so much disappointing after buying so much expensive product and getting this result. I still can't understand what happened to the screen.
    Anyone any idea or comments?

it would be best to take it to an apple store because they could examine it and possibly determine the cause of the crack

  • Iphone 6 screen crack

This will be a silly problem to write here, but I could not find another alternative to reach Apple. I purchased an iPhone 6  64 GB by mail from Apple for my wife.  A week later she dropped it and cracked the screen. We live in Turkey in Ankara and there are only two Apple Stores in Istanbul. I can take it to Istanbul, but getting an appointment is impossible form those two stores. Apple guys reached by phone admit that they are too busy and direct me to third party Apple Services where you can only change the phone for a fee. The fee is half of the actual price of the phone which is ridiculous. It is not possible to find someone who can solve the problem in Apple. The Apple guys on the phone say they are sorry but they can not do anything. This is unbelievable a company like Apple provide such a bad service. I have been using Apple products including computers, iPads, iPhones, etc  for the last 14 years and was proud of them. But, after such a bad experience, I feel badly disappointed and like I am cheated. Basically they say; sorry but you have to pay and change your phone. despite the fact that Apple Turkey website has a price list for screen change for iPhone 6.
I travel frequently abroad. Do you think it will be possible to change the screen in another country?
    Thanks for the advice...

No. take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.
    Make an appointment first.

  • My iphone 6 screen cracked can i repair it for 109 dls?

im from mexico and i buy the iphone from telcel, today my screen got cracked, is it true that i can get a new one for 109 dls?
    thx

Screen repair seems not to be an option at this time on the service page for Mexico. You might have to pay the Out-Of-Warranty-Service fee to get your phone serviced:
What types of damages are not covered by my warranty?
Apple's Limited Warranty for iPhone excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications. Please review the warranty for further details.
An iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service may be eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service. For example, an iPhone that has failed due to damage or liquid damage is ineligible for warranty service but eligible for OOW service. However, certain damage is ineligible for OOW service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details. Refer to this article to check if the Liquid Contact indicator on your product has been triggered.
If your iPhone is not eligible for warranty service, you may wish to contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider or your carrier for other options.

The screen on my iphone 4 has been cracked (obliterated) does anyone know how much it is to repair or is it possible to upgrade to a 4s for a little extra?

You can "upgrade" to the 4S for full retail or possibly a subsidized price if elligible from your carrier.
