IPhone 5s playing wrong text tone?

Hello all;
This morning I updated my phone to the most recent software update- iOS 8.1- and now when I receive a text message it plays the "Chime" ringtone instead of the one I downloaded from iTunes. It does the same thing for any ringtone I had personalised to a certain number, as well, like I have all my contacts set to a default tone (which I don't). Has anyone else experienced/fixed this problem? I find it really annoying.

Fixed it....after searching here and seeing that there was a pretty widespread problem with that whole Kelly Clarkson album.
My song was an imported MP3 from my CD. I deleted it from the cloud and then locally on my PC I "Created AAC version". Then reupdated iTunes match. Now it plays fine.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I have an iPhone 4S with iOS 6.1.3, so it is not just the iPhone 5. It has been this way for over a year, which would include several iOS versions. I can try the vehicle question you have later. I don't have access to the vehicle right now.
I'm not sure if any of the web based streaming apps will play over Bluetooth in a vehicle. Since this is a sound app, I'm not sure it Bluetooth supports that, but it would take someone other than me to test that, since I don't stream music that way. I do use Bluetooth on occasion to play my iTunes music in the vehicle and that works just fine. The restriction for text tones may be based in the ability of the Bluetooth stack to support it, if the device does not support the texting portion of Bluetooth.
If you believe this is something Apple needs to be aware of, then you need to let them know this. This can only be done via the feedback page at www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.
EDIT: Here are the appropriate support documents about Bluetooth. One is about what profiles the iPhone supports, and the other is about Bluetooth FAQs. I was given a brand new iPhone yesterday and it wont play music, text tones or slide and keypad tones when it is on charge?

My iPhone was brand new yesterday. I took it home and put it on charge and when I went to play music it wouldnt play the sound even thought the song was playing. It also wouldnt let me listen to any tones when I went to change my text tone but if the phone rings then the ringtone will play. This is really frustrating, I had to get a brand new one as the one that I was given the day before had previously been blacklisted for some unknown reason. PLEASE HELP!!

Are you using the UsB/Charging lead that came with the iPhone
I have this issue when charging my phone in the car when using the lead supplied with the Head Unit.
This is due to the USB lead having the Audio connections present (for playing through the stereo)
The downside to this being that the phone will not play any sounds out of the built in speakers as all audio is routed through the stereo

My iPhone 3GS plays a wierd "tone" randomly.

My previous Iphone 3GS got stolen and luckily i had it insured under Optus, now they have given me a new handset but i realised that the new piece just randomly plays a wierd "tone" during random times. At first i thought that maybe its a tone to notify if my batts are low or any other sort of notification, but then realised that its none of that. My phone operates perfectly otherwise and when the tone suddenly plays nothing unusual appears on my screen.
Thought of posting this topic to get any clues from you guys, before i decide to return it back to optus only to find out there was a solution sumwer.

I had a similar problem with iphone 3GS, my battery was not keeping its charge so I decided to replace the battery, not easy!! The new battery seemed to be charging fine and it is fully charged but my phone either switches off as soon as you take it off charge or it only lasts a couple of minutes. Could I have not connected something properly when I replaced the battery or is the battery faulty?

Iphone 3g died after text tone?

Text tone went off and then the phone died. I tried to charge it and I tried to connect it to the computer. I tried holding down the button and the on/off switch at the same time & still nothing.

No, it does not.
All of your media should be in the iTunes library on the computer.
Contacts should be synced with a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.

First, if you want to clean your Mac, get rid of "CleanMyMac."
I don't know what's causing your problem, so I can only offer an experimental solution. The effects are easily undone if it doesn't work. The real cause may be a bug or something external to your computer.
Back up all data.
Close the System Preferences window if it's open.
Step 1
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Social
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder named "Social" should open. Move that folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Log out, log back in, and test. If there's no change, put the folder you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Go on to the next step. Otherwise, delete the folder you moved.
Step 2
Proceed as in step 1, but with this line:
~/Library/Internet Accounts
You'll need to recreate your settings for Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks, as applicable.

Iphone 4 has no text tone

My iphone 4 will not ring on texts. It will vibrate but no sound. It works fine on calls. All settings are correct. I have the ringer on and volume turned up, it is not something silly I am missing. When I tap the different ringtones under sounds and texts none of them make a sound. I have reset and rebooted the phone, neither did any good. I don't know what to do next.

Text tones missing from phone since iOS 5.0.1

I noticed last night, when one of my friends texted me last night it didn't play the text tone I had assigned him. then I went to my sounds menu in settings and all 4 of my custom text tones I had purchased from iTunes were gone. My text tones show up in iTunes Purchases on my computer, but when I try unsyncing then resyncing them to my phone, all I get is a message on my phone saying, "Itunes cannot sync 4 items to this phone, See itunes for details" This is just happened since updating to iOS 5.0.1. SOMEBODY HELP!!!!

I had this issue too. I did an OTA update.
I tried turning off my iPhone, removed and reinserted my SIM and turning it on again a few times without success. I also inserted my wife's SIM, it was OK. When I tried with mine again, it was not. I also tried going in and out of Airplane Mode too without success.
Afte a bit of trial and error, I finally got it to work.
What I did was:
1. Turn off WIFI.
2. Turn off my iPhone.
3. Removed and reinserted my SIM.
4. Turned on my iPhone. Almost immediately I saw the "3G" indicator and after a couple of seconds, my SIM worked!
5. Turned WIFI back on.
From my issue, it seems the iOS 5.0.1 update got "confused" with the network setup.

On Iphone 4, can other text tones be purchased from Itunes or an App, or is the phone limited to the ones already installed?

At least I'm not the only one with the issue. I was looking it up so see if others had the same problem and found a bunch of posts about it. I'm assuming it's not the phone then, it's the software. Should I bring it to the Apple Store? Replacing the phone seems stupid, because the phone isn't really the problem. It's the software! Maybe the iOS 5.0.2 will fix it??? I don't really want to wait though, it's a pain. If a lot of people have this issue it should get Apple's attention. They need to do something to fix it, ASAP!

M4r will not play as a text tone

I have created a 3 second m4r file that I would like to use as a text alert tone.
The file plays in iTunes and I was able to transfer it to my iPhone.
However it won't play (no sound) if I select it as a text tone, but it will play if I select it as a ringtone.
Any idea's what I'm doing wrong.

Sounds to me that there is a process stuck and that is what is causing your battery issues. You say that you have restored to factory settings twice in the last 6 weeks. Were those restores from a backup, or a restore as new? If you restored to a backup and the issues are still there, then there is something wrong in your backup. Try restoring the device as new and not add anything to it right away and see if that improves the battery life.
I have a 5S with a push account for work and am dealing with email constantly during the day. I use my phone for upwards of 16-18 hours of the day, including web browsing, iMessages and phone calls. My battery is usually around 65-70 percent at the end of the day, which is only about 2-3% per hour of usage.
The echo deal is a carrier issue, and can depend on towers. I've seen it in the past, but it generally doesn't last long and corrects itself. The voicemail password might require you to contact AT&T to get them to reset your password. If you updated the software on the phone, it can sometimes require that reset. Are you still receiving your voicemail?
The Yahoo thing is Yahoo. I'm certainly glad I don't use if for all the stuff I've read.

My iPhone 6 Plus will not use any Store downloaded ring or text tones

My iPhone 6 Plus is updated to 8.1.2 and even after using the "restore tones" utility, none of my Store purchased ringtones or text tones will work. It doesn't matter if i set them to default, or set them to specific contacts, they won't play. It will only use tones shipped on the phone. If I have a custom tone set and get a call or text, it defaults to the Note tone that shipped on the phone. I can change the tones to any other tone that shipped on the phone, just not to any purchased tone. I've power cycled the phone, even re-downloaded the tones. Nothing...
Any thoughts?

It sounds like your wife has an iPhone 6 Plus that isn’t ringing or emitting alerts, and your concerned that this is related to the Do Not Disturb feature. Ringtones Play At Lesser Quality Than Text Tones

Strange thing I am noticing.
Ringtones on my iPhone 4S (iOS 5) play back at what sounds like a lesser quality than Text Tones.
When selecting a "ringtone", all the tones that play back sound like a low quality audio file.
When selecting a "text tone", the very same audio files play back in full quality.
Just sayin.

Thought I'd be a pest and bump this (I also replied to a related thread).
I previously was too lazy to make my own ringtones, so when I finally got around to it last week, I noticed this inexplicable and annoying bug. Why on EARTH would ringtones play at such horrid quality? If Apple made its own Blu-ray player, would it play movies at VHS quality??
I'll be VERY HAPPY when this is fixed. Then my phone won't sound like an audio Hallmark greeting card when it rings.
