IPhone as GPS receiver for Wi-Fi iPad

As you sadly know there is no such feature, the iphone hotspot provides ONLY internet.
what other options are available?
1. buy BT GPS receiver in addition? which one is best?
2. Apps?
Please share and let me know how did you overcome this.
[it's really annoying that apple couldn't overcome this and develop location service sharing between idevices (when using personal hotspot)]

One solution is a Bad Elf GPS receiver for iPad - http://bad-elf.com/
They've been making external GPS receivers for iOS devices for several years, and have some good online reviews.  They make BT devices as well as devices to connect via the older 30-pin or lightening connectors.

Is it possible to get an A2DP dongle for the iphone and then pair it with a bluetooth GPS receiver, thereby using the iPhone as a GPS? I don't want to buy all this junk if it's impossible. Thanks for any info!

No. Bluetooth only works for Audio.

  • Can I use my iphone as a hotspot for the new ipad thru Verizon?

I currently own an iphone and have service thru Verizon.  Would like to purchase the new ipad.  I didn't know if I needed to spend the extra money for the wi-fi-4g cellular (verizon) and have to pay for the service monthly or could I use my iphone as my hotspot?  Any advise would be great!   Thanks!

Verizon does offer Personal Hotspot (aka "tethering") for the iPhone. You will have pay extra for the service. Contact Verizon to get pricing.

  • Does anyone know the technical specifics of the GPS receiver in the iPad2?

I have an iPad2 that I use in the aviation community and I am trying to learn the technical specifics of the GPS receiver in the 3G iPad 2, i.e. sensitivity, how many satelites does it receive concurrently, what level of accuracy is used to measure its reception quality?
Does anyone have this data or know where I might find it?

Ifixit.com identifies it as the Broadcom BCM4751 Integrated Monolithic GPS Receiver in their iPad 2 G3 teardown.

  • Bluetooth GPS Receiver + MacBook. Any software?

I just purchased a BT2 Bluetooth GPS Receiver. Is there a software for Mac OS X that I could use to receive live tracking on my MacBook, instead of a PDA?

I am also interested in setting up the Macbook with a bluetooth GPS receiver for use in the car or when sailing.
So far I have searched around but haven't found any software with offline maps included.
The best solution (and cheapest) so far I have found is to use Google Earth and increase its cache size. Then I guess you can run the route beforehand so the roads and images are stored offline ready for use.
Is there a standalone package with roadmaps (for the UK/Europe) built in for offline use?
This must also be able to connect to a the bluetooth GPS receiver. Has anyone got any recommendations for these too?
    Thanks,
    Neil

  • Does Toshiba support the NAV4ALL GPS receiver?

My brother is a fan of toshiba and he would like to buy a gps receiver for doing a project with his friends.
He think a brand name is Nav4all is nice , because it costs him not too much, only 70 euro. compared to another brand, it is really nice price.
But he wonders if this GPS receiver can support his toshiba laptop or not .
    Any idea ?

    Hi,
the GPS receiver from Nav4All seems to be a normal Bluetooth device, so it should work.

  • Best GPS programme for Palm E2?

I have recently acquired a gps receiver for my E2 and  have connected it successfully via Bluetooth. Has anyone had any experience using a GPS program with this set up? What's the best to use? Any good cheap/free ones?
How well can I expect the software to run on my E2 both overclocked and at regular speed?

I have not tried them, but Navigator 6 is reported by some users at www.brighthand.com to work although it is not officially supported by TomTom on the TX, and there seem to be performance problems related to the size of the newer maps compared with Navigator 5 maps which ship with the device.  This thread is representative of what you'll see there.
I bought my Palm GPS Car Kit brand new and used it very happily for several years.  Then, for some inexplicable reason it became unreliable and eventually stopped working altogether.  I don't know whether there was a connection problem between the Palm and the cradle, or maybe something inside the cradle broke, but it would very frequently lose the satellite signals, and then never reconnect.  The last straw was when it happened on my way to taking one of my kids to college last summer.  I wound up pulling into a Wal*Mart (gah!) before hitting the highway, and getting a stand-alone GPS unit.  I still use the Navigator software on the TX from time to time, but no longer use the GPS cradle.
This thing has long since been discontinued, and I haven't seen new ones available online for some time.  But if you can find a left over new one for a good price (and by this I mean UNDER $100), you could see if the Navigator 5 maps are current enough for you to live with them without having to spring for Navigator 6.  But honestly, if you wind up spending any serious money for the car kit and then upgrading to Navigator 6 maps, you might as well just spring for a nice, mid-priced stand-alone GPS unit.

  • My iPhone is not receiving mail but these messages continue to flash at the bottom of the screen:  Checking for messages, Updated just now, checking for messages, etc.  After a minute or so it will flash downloading 1 - 32 messages but nothing is received

My iPhone is not receiving mail but the following messages continue to flash over and over at the bottom of the screen:  "Checking for messages, Updated just now, Checking for messages", etc.  After a minute or so it will flash downloading 1 - 32 messages but nothing is received and then the "Checking for Messages," etc. starts back again.   I turned the phone off for 30+ minutes and also tried to reset it, but the problem continues.   Any ideas on how to solve the problem?

Double click the home button and swipe up the messages app to stop it, then open the app again. This pretty much completely stops the process and freshly opens it again, resolving problems at times. I have had this happen before as well on my iPad, I get a banner, check messages, and nothing new is there.
If that doesn't work, close the app like suggested above, but then restart the phone by holding down the home and lock button for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears.

  • GPS apps for iPad ?...

    hi guys
can anyone tell me if it is possible to use apps - such as Navigon's GPS app for iPhone.. - with the iPad ? it would make for a GREAT touchscreen size for the car the only thing i'm kind of let down by my iPhone 3GS...
could i perhaps connect them together via Bluetooth for that effect ?
    thanks !

    hi guys !
& thanks ! i was kind of hoping it would & now i know it's down to Navigon to ''sort it out'', i'm sure it's only a matter of time before it's done so...another expense lurks in the horizon : a 3G iPad to use as a GPS !! plus whatever else it does, eh, eh, eh....
wait a minute, if it's 3G does it mean i can also use it as a phone of sorts ? or only through Skype & such ? give it the capability to stream music - á la iPhone.. - & that would make it a wonderful car gadget...
once again thanks a lot for the input & have a great week-end !

  • Want to connect car GPS receiver to iPhone 3GS

    Hi,
Getting a little tired with the unreliability of the iPhone 3GS GPS reception in the car so I wondered if I could connect the receiver that is already built into the car. I changed the head unit (the SatNav was pretty basic anyway) for a Pioneer that allows me to control and play music through the car stereo from my iPhone and also lets me make calls via Bluetooth. Is it possible to get a Y splitter that would also allow me to connect the GPS receiver to give me more reliable Satellite Navigation?
Hoping somebody out there can help me.
    Steve.

  • GPS function for iPhone?

Does anyone know if there are any plans to enable iPhone for GPS?
Also, I am new to Apple OSX. What are widgets? I gather they are mini apps. I see that there is a GPS widget on the Apple site here http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/livegpstracking.html
How do you download a widget to iPhone? And when you do, does it add an additional icon to your touch screen?
Thanks for any help on this.

This is a feature that would really make the iPhone wonderful. I do already own a Garmin GPS and love it - the downside is the large bulk that it adds (it's almost like a (miniature) CRT: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000A5TAT2.01.SCLZZZZZZZ.jpg )
I love it but find the bulk prevents me from taking it on the go unless I know I'm going to need it ahead of time.
Being able to just pull out the iphone for the same functionality would be perfect. I love the google-maps views and think it would be perfect on a GPS (especially with the traffic/(updated) local search/satellite maps and now the ability to re-route your trip by dragging your cursor). If they added voice (text to speech) it would be perfect.
It would likely be done through Bluetooth - I know SONY has a bluetooth accessory for their UMPC that does just that. The GPS receiver is also quite inexpensive (I've seen them for $100-130). I wouldnt have a problem spending $50 more or so on the software either (and with Google maps built in, it shouldnt be too tough).

  • I'm receiving iMessages on my ipad but not my iPhone 4S.

I've had my iPhone and iPad for well over a year now and never any problems. All of a sudden I've stopped receiving iMessages on my iPhone but I am receiving them on my ipad - slightly annoying as I don't tend to carry my iPad around!
    Has anyone got any ideas?

Go to settings and message and see what is showing in there.
If it all looks OK then click on send & receive then the Apple ID and sign out. Then sign in again with your Apple ID and password and see if this solves it.
If it says waiting for activation or anything else, go to settings > phone and make sure the telephone number in there is correct.

  • IPhone continuity - silent switch no effect on iPad when receiving calls

    Hi Apple,
I love continuity, especially for calls.
would be great to transfer the status of the silent switch on iphone to ipad/mac -> when iphone is on silent it also mutes ipad/mac, so when receiving calls the ipad/mac doesn't ring!
Or at least give the user to have an option in settings.
    thanks for looking into this.
