IPhone can't AUTO DELETE old email and messages?

Darn what a pain in the butt. This is definately one area where the BlackBerry beats the iPhone. There are not many, but here and there do I discover them. Or is there a way?

    my iphone 5s will not let me delete emails, it will only allow me to select an email and move it to trash. the slide method ask more/trash, when selecting trash the message disappears but once you leave email and come back the message reloads. Also I cannot mass select multiple emails for delete. I can trash them only 1 at a time.

    I cannot select multiple mails any more to delete them on my ipad 2. I've only noticed it since upgrading to 7.04 but cannot be sure that the iOS upgrade is the cause of it.
    Same for both business and personal mailboxes.

    Is there a way to automatically delete emails that are in an inbox after they are say, 1 year old? My mother just will not delete them, and I need a way to automatically delete them after a given time. She just reads them and then leaves them in her inbox.

    You could probably write some sort of automator action to do what you want, but you may be better off moving your mom's email account to gmail.com where she'll probably have enough space to hold several years worth of email for free.

  • Can mail auto-delete old mail from specific folders?

    I would like to have mail automatically delete mail older than one month in specific folders where I store email from mailing lists. Is there a way to get mail to do this without my having to select the messages in the folder and "apply rules"?
    It seems that rules are only applied to new messages or ones you select.
    Automator does not have an option to "find messages" which are "older than..." It does allow you to select messages recieved "before..." but you have to set a specific date.

    The effort is indeed made here to clean up messages I've received - typical mailing list folders can grow out of control quickly without a little maintenance.
    I did make some Rules, ones anchored on both the sender name and date received, with the action being to send the matched messages to the Trash, or to simply change the highlighting as a test.
    It was never, and still is not, clear to me whether I must manually initiate these rules. I would hope not, however I was never able to see them work, even with the most basic of criteria, whether left to their own devices or manually selecting apply rules from the menu.
    Anyways, I guess my point here is to validate my suspicion that Rules are indeed the one and only way one would accomplish this?

  • Mailbox-IN is full, delete old email and comprimeren. But I have 5Gb free space.

    yesterday, Dropbox problem, got all space on C drive. So message was 0 kb space at C:\ drive. I changed it, now again 5GB space.
    Now Thunderbird has problem with 1 of my 5 in-mail boxes. (It's the biggest one with 30000emails)
    1. I indexed it again, 2. I cleaned it up spam/unwished email... made 3000email deletion. 3. archive/Comprimeren will not work...it's known -never worked.

    The Inbox should be used as an Inbox and not as a general storage. It should be kept low in email numbers.
    When emails are downloaded, they are written one after the other into a single file. So you have 30,000 emails in a single file. That is huge and highly risky if that folder becomes corrupted., especially a business account.
    Make some new folders with relevant names, like Clients or a specific topic, Orders, etc and then move emails into those folders to organise them like a filing system.
    When the Inbox is empty, right click on Inbox and select 'Compact'.
    Compacting is not compressing or zipping. It removes 'marked as deleted' emails.

    Then select a folder, highlight all emails older than a month, they will appear as 'conversations' in the Message pane.
    Click on 'Archive' button.
    Suggest you organise your emails into suitable folders first and do not try to Archive thousands of emails in one go.
    Archiving is not a backup, it will help to reduce file size, you will still be able to see all emails via the Archives folder.

    After updating the sfotware on my 3gs phone, i have lost all my contacts, calendar appointments, e-mails, etc. Is there any way to retrieve them?

    Contacts and calendars are designed to be synced with a supported application on the computer or a cloud service like iCloud, Google, or Exchange.
    Has the device been used as designed?  If so, simply re-sync them.
    Did you actually allow the device to finish restoring after installing the update?

    I like the fact that I can access all me emails in 1 inbox but I don't like the fact that the iphone is pulling in deleted old emails.
    Having to delete 536, 1 at a time is ridiculas.

    Same here. I upgraded my 3G to 4.0 and now every old email I've received going back, who knows how far, is coming into the phone as unread. Hundreds.

    Go into the Settings> and then tap on Mail contacts and calendars.
    One that screen tap on the email account you want to delete. On the next screen at the bottom it should give you the options to "Delete Account" in red. Tap on that and delete the account from your iPad.

    If the old ID is yours, and if your new ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

    If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.

    Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
    Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
    Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

    You would have to change it back to your old email address in order to turn off "Find My iPhone" on your devices. After you changed it back to your old address and deactivated "Find My iPhone" (activation lock) you could change your Apple ID to your new address again. Now it should wok on all your devices.

    Contact iTunes Customer support... it is not possible to bypass Activation Lock.

    Had asked for help with iCloud 3 weeks ago.  Cloud has my old email and I no longer know the password, wont't let me sign in with new email.  When I talked with apple cust service they assured me that everything associated with apple would change over.  NO it did not! Cannot find how to get cloud to change this. My Iphone says I have not backed up in 9 weeks because of iCloud.  Can anyone help me or give me some advise please

    Same thing happened to me. My son's iPod touch suddenly started indicating that my "username or PW had changed" or was "incorrect" so I paid Apple $30 to find out that all that was required was updating the software by plugging his iPod into my computer & syncing with iTunes. My problem was then solved.
