Iphone disconnections WLC 5508
Good morning!
The behavior of some mobile devices ( as Iphone , Itouch, not Blackberry, not labtops ) with WL Controller (5508) is that, when the client doesn't use it, it disconnects after 480 sec.
The idle timeout configured is 900 sec.
Anyone knows why the behavior is different in this type of devices? Increase the idle timeout is a solution? Why?
Thank veru much!
Regards,
There has been some post in the past about increasing the idle timeout so that the user would not have to log back on if using some sort of webauth splash page. Now why these devices.... I bet the manufacture wants does this to increase battery life. That's my guess:)
Thanks,
Scott Fella

Dear All,
Greetings!!!!!
We have WLC 5508 installed in our premises to which 80 1242AG APs are connected. Few days ago, all the APs all of a sudden disconnected from Controller and rejoined after 12 to 15 hours. when we try to investigate, there was regulatory domain conflict occur. But we didn't understand that those APs were configured with the same config before. How come they got diconnected and now rejoined without changing any configration in WLC?
Logs for both AP and WLC has been attahched here.
Kindly guide us!!!Then the APs should of not of disassociated from the WLC. If all these APs are local to where the WLC resides, then I really don't know why the APs would of disassociated. Take a look at the monitor tab and then look at statistics and then ap join. There should be a history unless the WLC was rebooted or the log was cleared. The only other thing I could think of is if there was a duplicate address on a device that had the same IP address as the management interface of the WLC.

IPhones not taking ipv4 addresses on Unified Wireless (WLC 5508 and AP 3602)
This is a really odd one...
Earlier this week we started having issues with our BYOD wireless network (802.1x, WPA2+AES) but only with Apple devices (iphone and ipad). Employees with Android or Windows phones are not having any problems at all.
A brief summary of what's observable for the issue:
Radius authentication succeeds (PASS observable in ACS logs)
IPhone status viewed on both controllers (foreign anchor in DMZ as well as corporate WLC) shows phone associated.
Debug client output shows an IPv4 address is actually being assigned to the phone however it appears to ignore it and restart the DHCP request process so debug output shows what looks to be a loop of DHCP request and offer stages.
Infrastructure notes
Cisco WLC 5508s are all running 7.4.121.0 (tried rolling back to 7.2.110.0 .....didn't help)
APs are all 3602I-N-K9
DHCP for the BYOD network is running on the anchor in the DMZ however this was temporarily moved to a switch (had no effect).
Any ideas?

WLC 5508 - Clients disconnecting
I am running WLC 5508 7.2.111.3 with some 2602i AP.
Last week one user reported his new macbook pro 2013 was encountering connectivity issues. His older macbook pro 2009 was working perfectly.
The user is sitting in the middle of 2nd floor having equal distance from second's floor access points.
The problem is that his Macbook pro 2013 was persistently trying to associate with 3rd's floor Access Points. Whatever i tried to do (deauthenticate user, rebooting 2nd & 3rd floor APs) the connection was persistent to 3rd floor Access Point. Even when i tried to install an Access Point in the user's office his Macbook Pro 2013 refused (!!!) to leave 3rd's floor Access Points. However his Macbook pro 2009 was always connected to the nearest Access Point (either to 2nd floor Access Points or to the newly installed access point in his office).
This week i had two visitors in 4th floor reporting that their Laptops (Sony Vaio) were doing very slow with the wireless.
When i tried to troubleshoot i found in the controller that their laptops were associating with 4th floor Access Points and after a minute they were disconnected and trying to associate to Ground Floor (!) Access Points. Of course they couldn't establish a connection and then associated again with 4th floor access points and after a while disconnected and trying to associate to Ground Floor Access Points
I tried to debug client with Sony Vaio and saw in the controller the following message
*apfMsConnTask_7: Mar 24 10:42:15.473: %APF-4-INVALID_ACTION_CATEGORY: apf_wme_utils.c:5481 Could not process 802.11 Action. Received Action frame with invalid category field(not supported by controller) from client. Mobile:*********, Category:7.
I also see a lot of these messages for other clients.
*apfMsConnTask_3: Mar 19 12:03:54.243: %APF-4-ASSOCREQ_PROC_FAILED: apf_80211.c:5275 Failed to process an association request from c8:6f:1d:24:0e:7d. WLAN:5, SSID:************. mobile in database timed out.
Am i hitting any bug similar or equal to CSCue53980?have you tried with open authentication ( no security ) ? Check if client is able to associate then

WLC 5508 : session disconnected when one lag-port is down.
Hello,
I have a WLC 5508 ( version 6.0.182).
When the port1 and port2 are connected ( The switch is configured with a etherchannel in forced mode) everything works fine: There is traffic on the 2 ports.
When I disconnect one of the 2 ports, I can still ping outside with my PC client, but all my tcp sesssions goes down and I even cannot restart my session. The only way I found is to do a "Disconnect / Reconnect" on my PC wireless connection.
Do you know this probleme ?
Is it a way to avoid it ?
Michel MisonneCSCth12513 LAG fail-over does not work on CT5508
This bug is fixed in the special release available through TAC : 6.0.199.157 and 7.0.xxxx
Hope this helps.

WLC 5508 with LAP-1142n - Several Errors
Hello all,
I had installed a WLC 5508 with 7 LAP 1142n and 2 converted AP 1131abg.
I am seeing some errors relating 2 issues.
1st- One particular AP 1142 is disassociating and reseting the radios.

I had some search, and the new discovery cause, might be that the AP didnt know what WLC do associate, in a multi-controller environment. This is not the case. I only have one WLC in the same management vlan.
2st-The Radius server is beeing related in the logs as been deactivated. I raise the server time-out on Radius configuration option, but it still continues to do it.

RADIUS server 10.67.128.36:1812 failed to respond to request (ID 172) for client e8:06:88:51:c0:2b / user 'unknown'
Is this meaning the WLC stop sending request to the Radius Server ? We dont have BackUp Radius.
As far as i know, its always the same mac-address client that is associated to that error, maybe a iphone.
I had so many clients in that SSID and they are all working good.
The Radius server is a NPS from windows Server 2008

Hope some one help me here.

Wireless –> All APs –> High Availability tab, and did it only to the AP that is taking this beahviour.
Is this mandatory for a 1 controller only ?
No mather what the manual say, after that the AP is rebooting 2 mins in 2 mins... with the same kind of messages.
The interface on the switch is getting a few input errors and the same numbers of crc... but are so few...
Next step ... i will change it to another one's place/pathing cable.
Regarding the Radius messages... any ideas ?
I'm already on 30 sec's of server timeout.
Best Regards,
Bruno Petrónio -
We have deployed a WLC 5508 w/ SW version 6.0.199.4, 1142 AP's & open authentication w/ MAC filtering. Clients are randomly getting dropped with "Limited Access" shown in Win 7. In this state, the client machine is unable to ping the gateway and sometimes lose their DHCP assigned IP as well. A manual disconnect/re-connect to the SSID is required everytime.
I ran a debug on one the clients stuck in the "Limited Access" state (debug client xx:xx:xx:xx):

ISE Profiling for Wireless Devices (WLC 5508) like Laptops and Mobile Devices
Hi,
We have integrated WLC 5508 to cisco ise 3315 with ios 1.1.1 and using Guest Sponsor portal for wireless guest users.
Where we have created open ssid in wlc and redirect web login portal in wlc for guest users. We have enable all respective node in policy service for profiling and also configure snmp in wlc as well as in ise.
When guest user is connected to open ssid its get redirected to web login page of ise portal and when it gets login we are only able to see the username which guest user login but not the end device in monitoring log.
Wireless End devices are not able to get profiled can any one tell me what configuration I need to do on ise or wlc side to profiled end guest wireless device like android, iphone and laptops
Thanks
PranavHi Tarikh,
I only want to identify the end devices for wilress guest user. I have configured MAB Authentication and configure autorization policy where in mention identity group any condition as wlc web authentication and athorization profile only guest mentioning plain access for the same.
Can you help me how I can achived profiling for wirless guest devices. I have configured all profiling probes . Enable snmp on wlc as well as in network devices.
What else I need to configured to achived just identiting device nothing but profiling and which should reflect in authnetication logs.
Thanks

WLC 5508 Internal DHCP server issues
Hi,
I am hoping to get your feedback around the dhcp issues I am facing with Two Centrally Switched Wireless LANs. I have tried to explain the setup and the problems below and would appreciate it if anyone can suggest a solution for the problems I am facing:
The setup is as follows:
- I have a WLC 5508 which has been configured with 4 SSIDs, out of which 2 are using Central Authentication and Switching.
- I have an LWAP connected to the WLC in HREAP mode.
- WLC is configured as the DHCP server for clients connecting to the SSID 'Guest'. For the rest, I am using external dhcp server.
- Only one scope for Guest Interface is setup on the WLC.
Problems:
1. As far as I know, for WLC to act as internal dhcp server, it is mandatory to have the proxy enabled, but the Clients connecting to SSID 'Internet' are
unable to get an ip address from the external dhcp server, if dhcp proxy is enabled on the WLC. If i disable the proxy, it all works fine.
2. DHCP does not release the ip addresses assigned to clients even after they are logged out.
3. If a machine which was earlier connected to 'Guest' SSID connects to the 'Internet' SSID, it requests the same ip it was assigned by the WLC which it was assigned under 'Guest', but gets tagged with the Vlan configured on the management interface.

I have a similar issue where Wireless clients are not receiving automatic addressing from an internal DHCP server. I have multiple interfaces configured on the WLC which are connected to separate VLANS. The manually specified DHCP primary server entry is the same on all interfaces. Some clients are able to authenticate and receive automatic IP configuration but some clients are failing the address assignment process. I have checked connectivity between the WLC and DHCP server, this is confirmed as working. When I carry out a "debug dhcp packet enable", I get the following outputs which seems as if the DHCP discover request from the client is skipped. Your thoughts and inputs on this are appreciated.

DHCP on WLC 5508 - 7.4.100.0 - with HA
Hi All,
I'm just looking for some ideas on a problem we've encountered the last few days with DHCP on certain SSID's. To give you an idea, we have a wireless network with 13 SSID's being managed by a WLC 5508 pair configured as high availability (52 AIR-CAP3502I). Yesterday we encountered an issue with DHCP on a few of the SSID's but not all, and as a last resort a reboot of the controller fixed the problem. Statically assigning addressing allows for traffic to traverse the network out to the web and back so I don't think it's a VLAN configuration issue on the wired side. It's worth mentioning however that the controllers are configured for a LAG to HP switches. DHCP is being handled by an external windows DHCP server and the primary server address points to the gateway which has a relay configuration pointing to the windows server on the other side of it. Again, rebooting the controller fixed the problem and the web traffic traverses fine if statically assigning addressing. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
KeithWell to determine if its a LAG issue with the HP, just connect one port. This will help determine if its an HA issue or not. I don't know the HP platform, but the WLC uses src-dst-IP for load balancing across the LAG. Maybe the HP is sending the traffic back on a different port. So just having one port connected should eliminate if its a LAG issue or not.

After WLC upgrade to 8.0.100 [ not in HA mode], the AP seem to be dropping out and reconnect using the fallback to IP- inspite of the statically configured IP on the AP
Running Outdoor mesh AIR-CAP1552E-N-K9 on WLC 5508
(Cisco Controller) >show boot

- Reason for last AP connection failure.................... The AP has been reset by the controllerWe downgraded the WLC to 7.4.121.0 and finally got rid of the DHCP problem
But encountered a new issue
The WGB once connected to the mesh AP does not reconnect to the network , auth failure- AIR-SAP1602E-Z-K9 running - ap1g2-k9w7-mx.152-2.JB2
Local EAP auth configured for WGB client on the WLC
Looks more like the WGB stuck in a state , unable to negotiate its credentials

Upgrading a wlc 5508 from 7.0.116 to 7.4
Hi
I have a wlc 5508 running version 7.0.116.0 that I need to uppgrade to use the CAP2602I AP. I understand that I need to upgrade it to version 7.0.240 before 7.4.100 to avoid loosing HREAP VLAN mappings, and I have also read that i need to install the FUS image (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_1_7_0_0.html). In what order should this be done? Shlod the FUS image be installed before new firmware ore after firmware or after 7.0.240 but before 7.4?
/BjörnIt can be done before or after. I have always done the FUS upgrade after the image upgrade

Hello,
We've got a problem with the AP (AIR CAP 1602I) which is managed by WLC 5508(7.4.100.60)
Users connect to the AP with VOIP phones(Avaya).. and there are following problems during calls
-robot voice
-strong noise(even if call is not made, just speaker is on)
Strange thing is that there is no problem with older APs which are managed with the same WLC.
Any idea?
Thanks in advanceWell that can be a cause also. I would look at using 7.4.110.0 which is MR1. If that doesn't help, then open a TAC case as it might be something else. Going to v7.5 I don't think will fix the issue.
Many times I would go the the manufacture and find out if the support a certain code or not. It's nice when they do test to make sure it still works. Some manufactures do test and will suggest code versions and that's when you have to decide if the 1602 was really needed or just keep adding 1262's since there was only 3 added.

Hi,
I have a WLC 5508 connected in a hub and spoke topology. The WLC is located at the hub which is the main office. In one of the remote spoke locations I have five Access Points that are connected to the local LAN and the model for the APs is AIR-CAP3602I-E-K9. The APs are all connected to access ports on the switch in vlan 1. I have two WLAN configured on the controller. I have two interfaces configured on the controller. The management and the guest interface. WLAN 1 is associated with the management interface. In the WLAN 1 advanced setting the flex local switching option is enabled. WLAN 2 is associated with the guest interface and this interface is tunneling vlan 248 the guest vlan. The problem I am having is that the devices can not communicate with each other if they are connected to the wireless connection WLAN 2 which is the tunneled vlan.
Example: The client would like to be able to connect his ipad to the apple tv for presentation. If I connect both devices to the WLAN 1 which is using flex local switching option they can communicate with no problem, but if the devices are connected to WLAN 2 the guest vlan they can't communicate with each other. Is it possible to get this to also work on WLAN 2 ?
Note: Both WLAN types are WLAN and P2P Blocking Action is set to default (disabled).
Does any one have any ideas what could be causing my issue?
Thanks in advance for your help,Well since your talking about Apple TV, you need to look at this reference guide for Apple's bonjour. This will explain how to get it to work and the limitation when an AP is in local or FlexConnect mode. The bonjour just doesn't work as people think it should because they can get it to work with a linksys AP.
