IPhone: OpenGL-ES Crash using glDrawArrays

Anyone else find that OpenGL-ES seems to want to crash when using glDrawArrays to bound to a color array? I reported it to Apple about 2 weeks ago, haven't heard anything back and it's not fixed in SDK 7.
I am trying to render an array of pixels, each their own color. So must supply a sister array of colors for each point. When turing it on using: glEnableClientState(GLCOLORARRAY); I get a crash.
Or, is there a workaround?

It does handle floats. If you read the ES 1.1 spec, it says that the size argument for glColorPointer must be 4 (Desktop GL accepts 1, 2, 3, or 4). The legal types in ES are UNSIGNED_BYTE, FIXED and FLOAT.
What is happening is the OpenGL ES implementation is properly detecting the error. If you called glGetError(), you will see GLINVALIDVALUE being returned after your attempt to call glColorPointer.
In GL, when an error is produced, the function has no other affect. In this case, the default state of ColorPointer is (size=4, type=FLOAT, stride=0, pointer=NULL). Because your call to glColorPointer effectively never happened, the pointer value stays NULL. When you call glDrawArrays, OpenGL tries to read the color data, starting at NULL.

Try resetting your phone by holding down the home and off button until the apple symbol comes up. Then if still doing, restore your phone in itunes from your backup.

• IPhone 3GS Camera Crashes iOS 4.3 When Device Used In Cold Weather

I was in Chicago today where the weather was in the low 40's (high 20s with the windchill). As I was sightseeing and using my iPhone to shoot casual snapshots, the OS completely crashed when I was trying to take the picture. My iPhone has never crashed for any reason, but I shrugged it off and then restarted the device. I took two more pictures, and then the phone again crashed on the third picture. After another restart, the phone started crashing every time I took a picture without exception.
Fearing the worst that my phone was about to die on me while on a business trip, I headed back to the car and headed for the hotel. As I was driving back, I got to thinking that my phone has never been in weather this cold before (I'm from California). As soon as I got to my room, I put the camera beneath the heating vent and allowed it to warm up. Once it felt like it was room temperature, I picked it up and started shooting pictures to see if I could get it to crash again. After forty pictures, it was still working.
Are there any known issues with the camera sensor on the iPhone 3GS in cold weather? Another poster from Eastern Europe seems to be having the same problem with the same model phone:

• [iPhone + OpenGL ES] - glDrawElements memory leak!?

Hello -
I found in the Leaks tool that when glDrawElements is called, a huge chunk of memory gets allocated. This memory is the exact size of a texture that was already loaded earlier. (1024x1024xRGBA = 4mb)
There is no other resource in the app that it could be, except another allocation of that texture. So instead of seeing 4mb in Leaks, I see 8mb - the second allocation being done by gfxAllocateTextureLevel.
If I comment out glDrawElements, this problem does not occur.
This is all on the simulator. I can't tell if it happens on the phone because Leaks crashes when I use it on the device.. Any ideas?

You probably have nothing to worry about. The simulator runs VERY differently than the real hardware.
For instance, as I was porting our company's game engine to the iPhone Simulator, I had to give the global heap an extra 5 megabytes, for memory allocations coming from Apple's threads. On the real iPhone, it needs less than 15k.
I've had one of our games running in a "demo loop" for hours on the real iPhone, with no crashes or other weird problems. So I doubt the iPhone's OpenGL is leaking memory.
Hope this helps.

De-authorise all, then authorise the one you still have.

• Original Computer I started syncing my iphone to has crashed. How do I go about syncing up with my new computer without losing all of my stuff. Everytime I have tried it tells me it needs to erase my iphone and replace it with the current library.

The original computer that I began syncing my iphone to has crashed and I now have a new computer. I need to know if anyone can help me? How do I sync my phone to the new computer and tell it that it's now going to be my primary computer instead of the old one? There has to be a way, viruses effect computers all the time and they crash so I know I can't be the only one.
Than you

You should be able to recover the media with the tips in this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings. You can probably transfer your purchases into a newly authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup. That might switch the assocation of the device to the new machine but I couldn't say for sure.

• New iPhone 5 keeps crashing, help?

Okay, so I've just upgraded from my very solid 3GS (a bit slow albiet) to the brand new iPhone 5 which I'm very pleased with, I love it, especially since I've just got retina, Siri and all the rest of the stuff the 4+4S owners enjoyed. There is just a single complaint, the iPhone 5 keeps crashing, every couple of hours I will be doing something, browsing reddit, in messages, it doesn't seem to matter and it will bring strange lines down the screen and restart (I'm guessing it's some kind of kernal panic?) and sometimes springboard will just restart.
Is there any way I can find out what's going on, logs of some kind? Or is that all locked away safe from inexperianced users?
When it came yesterday, it was crashing every few minutes, I plugged it into iTunes on my Windows PC and started a restore, but my ENITRE PC froze up, which it hasn't done in months, is this a coincidence or is because the iPhone is plugged in? (communication issues with the phone perhaps?) - anyway, I did the restore and it is now crashing far less frequantly, every few hours as I said, but I could do to know why? I can't see it being a hardware issue, because it seems like iOS and springboard are just crashing out every so often....
EDIT: It's just crashed twice in the last 20 minutes, once when I opened Siri from the lock screen, and once while I was on the springboard... what on earth is going on??

Springboard just crashed... not sure how much of this is just verbose output... and how much means something, it's a long one (Sorry!) - Would it be worth reinstalling iOS again?

• Recently i upgrade my iphone 3gs to IOS5. currently , after a week my iphone keep on crashing

recently i upgraded my iphone 3gs to IOS5. currently , after a week my iphone keep on crashing and restarting.
Please help me.

I have a iPhone 3GS and installed iOS5. Since then, my phone crashes 2-3 times a day, it has a hard time find the cell networks (no 3G and says no network often), and eats up a fully charged battery overnight searching for connections. Fixing my phone is now my number one use of my free time! AT&T store says I should just upgrade my phone. This a software issue! I upgraded to iOS5.01 and it seems to be no different.
My wife had similar issues with her iPhone3G and iOS4. We made 3 trips to the Apple Store to do a deep recovery to bring it back to life. They told us it was a hardware issue and we needed to buy a new phone. iOS4.1 fixed all the problems and the phone worked great.
I guess I am in for the same ride And will hope iOS5.1 fixes my issues. Apple PLEASE HELP!!!!!

• HT4972 The computer that I normally sync my iphone with has crashed and all info was lost.... Im trying to sync to my new laptop... how do I do this without losing iphone purchases, apps etc???? Help??

The computer that I normally sync my iphone with has crashed and all info lost.... I'm trying to sync and update with my new laptop but I am getting an error meassage that if I continue all purchases, apps etc will be deleted..... How to I do this without losing all my stuff??? Help I have no clue about technology!!!!!

The official way to do it is to restore the iTunes library that was on your old computer to your new computer using the backup of your whole system you regularly update. Then you are syncing the phone with the same old library.
Some of the information below is summarized by turingtest2 in the post at https://discussions.apple.com/message/18842615
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
- Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/
- Phoneview - http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/
- MusicRescue - http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/products/musicrescue/ - Mac & Windows
- Sharepod (free) - http://download.cnet.com/SharePod/3000-2141_4-10794489.html?tag=mncol;2 - Windows
- Snowfox/iMedia - http://www.mac-videoconverter.com/imedia-transfer-mac.html - Mac & PC
- iexplorer (free) - http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/ - Mac&PC

- 2010 Post by Zevoneer: iPod media recovery options - https://discussions.apple.com/message/11624224 - this is an older post and many of the links are also for old posts, so bear this in mind when reading them.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141 - dates from 2008 and some outdated information now.
Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/ - Information about use in disk mode pertains only to older model iPods.
Get Your Music Off of Your iPod - http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Get_Your_Music_Off_of_Your_iPod - I am not sure but this may only work with some models and not newer Touch, iPhone, or iPad.

• HT5704 Hi, Two recent updates for my iPhone have caused crashes (down the white lead via iTunes).I have "fixed" but not sure of the cause?

Hi,
Two recent updates for my iPhone have caused crashes (down the white lead) via iTunes.
I have "fixed" but I don't know the cause?
Each time the update does n't complete.
The download does n't happen.
The computer & internet connection are good.
It is as if the Apple server does n't complete?
The phone stays in recovery mode, until you reset and rebuild in iTunes.
All software is up to date, but I can't find the cause
ANY IDEAS?
Regards,
P.

No error messages.
It just fails to complete the download, so recovery mode is the next step.
This can be over a period of eight hours or more!
I have so many (original) Apple USB leads that I would n't know if I have been using the same one (if it was faulty).
Does this sound like a "common" problem?

• IPhone 3G Mail crashes at launch.

I have a problem with my new 3G iPhone. Mail crashes at launch and I cannot get it to work at all. I tried having iTunes overwrite my mail setting but got the error message that "Mail couldn't be synched because Mail is in use on the iPhone" I tried deleting my email settings on the phone but it wouldn't let me. I tried restoring the firmware but that did not help. I tried enabling MobileMe and that didn't help. I've exhausted al the troubleshooting methods I know. If this were my desktop machine I would trash the preference file and see if that solved it. Does anyone know where iTunes stores the iPhone backup data? I think if I could restore the firmware and restore from a backup where the mail preferences were deleted I might be able to solve this problem.

So I did the dreaded "Set up as New Phone" option and did not restore from backup. My email problem is officially solved. But... Had to spend a few minutes setting up favorites and fixing the lost preferences and all my SMS conversations are gone... (Sigh...) But at least now everything is working fine.
I still wish I knew where the backup data is stored however, I'd like the option of editing it, in case something like this ever happens again. It might also be nice to have a preference that allows restore of everything but "..." so that misbehaving Apps can be fixed.

• HT1414 My iPhone 4s has crashed since downloading 6.1.1 - error 3014 any idea?

My iPhone 4s has crashed sine 6.1.1 update. Error 3014 anyone have the same problem?

It HAS to be hardware..
I made the appointment, thank you.
I consistently close all apps, keep my brightness down, keep wifi off when not in use, and location services. Reset my phone and still the battery drains so fast!
It appears to be messaging, and Facebook apps, and safari that are the leading cause..
If I send maybe 10 texts, I'll easily lose 4-8 % battery. I literally watch it drain in front of my eyes.
Roughly a minute of Facebook, safari, or mail consumes 1-2%.
That is faulty hardware, or software..
Either way it's apples fault. My phone is mint! Never been out of this otter box except to wipe dust off and when I charge it..
I charge regularly. Let it die down before charging, and let it almost completely die then fully charge it once a month too.
I hope apple repairs my battery, or software

• BF tried to update to ios6 on iphone 4 but crashed half way through saying it needed to plugged into iTunes and then restored so after it was 'restoring' he had an error message come up say to couldn't be restored....what should be do next?

BF tried to update to ios6 on iphone 4 but crashed half way through saying it needed to plugged into iTunes and then restored so after it was 'restoring' he had an error message come up say to couldn't be restored....what should be do next as the phone is in a complete non working condition

Spent hours trying everything suggested and finally this morning hit on a solution. iTunes must be run as an administrator. Even though you are logged into your PC as an administrator, using the iTunes shortcut does not make you an administrator in iTunes. I found this out by using the diagnostics in iTunes and reading through the results report.
I am using Windows 7, so I clicked the start button and right clicked on iTunes and selected "Run as an adimistrator". The first restore attempt got the 4013 error. I then did the DFU thing, hold power and home buttons for 10 seconds, release power and continue holding home for 10 more seconds.
iTunes gave me the restore message and I clicked it. I clicked the restore iPhone button and it started. The drivers loaded a couple of times. I got the apple logo with the progress bar and this time instead of disappearing, it started to fill in.
End result, a successful restore to factory settings and a happy 14 year old.
Hope this helps others.

• IPhones Safari keeps crashing Apple please fix this.

I know there is another top posted about this... if you google the 3 words... "iPhone, Safari, and Crash" in google or yahoo search hundreds of results of people complaining and apple still hasn't acknowledged the problem. I used the 1st generation iPhone for a year. My girlfriend still uses a 1st gen iPhone. I now use the iPhone 3g and I bought it in hopes that apple fixed how often safari crashes. Safari crashes all the time while loading a page safari will just launch me back to the home screen. This happens on 100% of everybody's iPhone I have ever tested. It happens mostly in forums while typing such as this one. I tried and failed twice to post in this forum with my iPhone because safari crashed and it was so frustrating. I have had an Iphone now for a year and a half and my girlfriend has as well. It is time you recognize this problem apple and do something about it. If you don't believe me log on to this very forum and reply to this message with your iPhone and see if it doesn't lag until you are just about frozen and then kick you back to the home screen. Apple I give you until December to fix this problem. Otherwise I will ebay my phones and then buy either the LG Dare, Samsung Instinct, T-mobiles new Google Android phone, or a windows mobile. PLEASE FIX SAFARI

The only reason I thought the new iphone would make some sort of difference is because in other maps such as SMS/MAPS/SETTINGS/AIM/MYSPACE mobile and many more the screen runs smoother and is more responsive. I have compared it to my 1st gen iPhone, my friends iPhone, and my girls iPhone. The new 3g just glides through everything a little smoother so I hoped maybe safari was more stable on the new platform. I was wrong. Regardless SAFARI should work perfectly on both iPhones that is, to alot of people, the most important application of all. It crashes more than any other 10 fold.
