Hi, yair_marx.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your device has been unlocked by the carrier, here is an article that I would recommend going through.

  • Why does my iPhone shut off during restore?

My iPhone 4 randomly shut off one night while it was charging. Now while the phone is unplugged, the screen is black. If I plug it into the computer and hold the lock button and home button for 10 seconds (DFU mode) I get to a screen with a USB cable and a blue itunes logo and I can see the device in itunes. In itunes there is an option that says "Restore iPhone...". After I click "Restore iPhone..." it begins to restore normally, but once itunes says "Preparing iPhone for Restore" my iPhone screen goes blank and the restore ends with a message that says "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (2001)." I've looked all over the internet for solutions, but I can't find any. So if anyone knows what's going on with it, please let me know. Thanks.

Im having this same issue with various errors (1611, 21). Did you find a solution or does anyone else know how to resolve this? Thanks!

  • Iphone shuts off during restore which causes error 9

Hello here, as I have mentioned in the headlines, I just got a Iphone from a friend and as soon as it reaches the apple in the starting process, it restarts. He claims it has been like that for over a week. I have tried fixing recovery, recovery mode, DFU, everything, seriously. When I am in recovery mode, I manage to get Itunes to recognize the device. I try to restore it but the device shuts down as soon as it begins the procees so I get error #9 (not responding device, like I unplugged it) I would appreciate any help so much.

Sadly it didn't work on my laptop as well. I have seriously no idea what to do. Any more help please?

  • IPhone 4 won't restore from backup - Not Enough Space

My wife deleted some photos from her iPhone 4 by accident and we are trying to recover them. We hooked her phone up and tried to do a restore from backup but we are getting an error saying there is not enough space on the iphone. How can that be if the backup came from the computer? How do we get the photos back or how do we get iTunes to restore the backup? Please help!
    Thanks,
    Jim

We called Apple and they told us to take it to the Genius bar and they would be able to help us restore the photos from the backup file that is on my wife's laptop. We haven't had a chance to take it in yet though. I'll try to post our results once we get in there.

  • Iphone shuts off during sync! Whyt?

I have an issue with Itunes and syncing. I have the latest version of Itunes, however this problem existed even the previous version of Itunes. Anyway, the issue is whenever I try to sync, during the sync the iphone autumatically shuts off and restarts on its own. I am not running 2.0 on the iphone yet. I tried to install which automatically backs up but even then I get an error because the phone shuts off. Is anyone else having these problems? I have reinstalled Itunes and have pulled other USB devices off. I even switched the ports for the USB for the phone. Does anyone have any ideas? I been trying to figure this one out for a while. I know the first issue is the PC part. Just saving up to buy a new Mac. This is my work computer....URGGGHHH!

I have personally witnessed this with a coworker. During the restore process after the upgrade her screen would go completely blank and then after a while she would see an error message on her XP machine saying that the iphone cannot be restored error 1603 (or 1604).
When I plugged her phone into my MacBook and did a restore everything was different. Rather than get a blank screen we saw the apple logo and the circle down at the bottom indicating that it was doing something. We were able to completely restore her phone from my MacBook when she had not been able to restore her phone for 2 days on her XP. There seems to be some incompatibility between something running in Windows, for example in our office PC's we run Norton antivirus, that causes a problem with the device. It must somehow sense that whatever it is trying to do is a threat and is blocking its ability to communicate with iTunes.

  • Macbook shuts off during time machine backup

    Hi all,
I've recently been having problems with my MacBook randomly shutting itself down - usually when I'm importing a CD into iTunes, watching GoPro files on QuickTime, for example. When this happens the fan is usually working so I'm guessing that's an overheating problem. A few other niggles have also appeared, all seemingly after I upgraded to Snow Leopard, which has made me decide to downgrade again (I think maybe its too advanced for my old machine!). So my real problem is this - I need to back up all my data and up until recently have been using an external HD with Time Machine. Now, my mac keeps shutting down when it gets to the actual backup part of the process. The fan never comes on and the mac is well ventilated and doesn't feel warm at all (ive been doing it in the morning when it's been off all night). Any suggestions as to what might be happening here, and how I can actually finish a back up? I've had a quick scout on the web for solutions (I'm not particularly IT savvy so most answers baffle me!) but have read that using 'Safe Mode' might help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nina. :)

Thanks for the link to the safe mode start up info - I'll give that a go tonight.
Among other things, that will check the directory structure and fix it if possible.  That might be all you need.
I'm on 10.6.8 and my brother upgraded me so I guess he still has the discs, I will check. Is that for a reinstallation?
You need the main one to reinstall OSX (only; that doesn't disturb anything else), or to restore from TM backups.  You may not need to do either, but should always have the disc handy.
What did your Mac ship with, and do you have the original discs?  One of them has an Apple Hardware Test specific to your Mac.  It's not real extensive, but might find any hardware problems.
Only I'm not really wanting to do anything like that til I've backed up - bit of a catch 22!!
If you're sure the backups were completing until recently, eject and disconnect the drive until you need it. No sense risking any damage to them!
If you have or can borrow another external, you might be able to make a copy of the current contents of your HD on it, via the Restore tab in Disk Utility.  From your description it sounds doubtful, but might be worth a try.
And/or, if you have some CDs/DVDs or a USB Thumb drive, you might be able to copy some stuff to them.

  • IPhone gift: Can I restore from backup without her knowing?

    Hi
I have bought a new iphone 5S for my wife's Christmas present.
I know her Apple ID and so I know that I can restore from iCloud backup
However.... Can I download the iCloud data to her new phone without her knowing OR without it deleting the content from her old (current) phone?
It would be nice to give her it on Christmas Day all done - without all the set-up fuss that you can get.
    Thanks
    B

Plug her old phone into iTunes and back it up. Plug the new phone into iTunes and restore it from the backup you made.

  • IPhone 4S won't restore from backup

I left my iPhone 4S overnight to update to iOS6, but when I woke up it said it was in "recovery"(? not sure exactly, but something like this) mode and needed to be restored to factory settings. I restored it and went to get my backup from before I downloaded the update, but it isn't restoring at all, even with older versions of my backup. It says it takes 5 seconds to restore, and then is exactly the same and on factory settings. None of my contacts, settings, etc. are restoring. How can I get an old backup to restore??

Exactly the same thing has happened to me. I've been banging my head against a brick wall for 5 hours trying to fix it!!

  • MacBook Pro OS 10.6.6 and iPhone 6 - can't restore from backup...

    Hi,
I have been using Apple products for a long time but I am not super technical. I have a MacBook Pro that is running OS 10.6.6. Yesterday, I bought the iPhone 6. I would like to restore using iTunes or iCloud but cannot because i have iTunes 10. I have tried numerous times to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 using Software Update (Combined) and by downloading a dmg file with no success. It runs through to the end and in the last seconds I get an error. I have restarted a few times and tried running Disk Repair to fix permissions. Nothing. Now my new iPhone 6 won't work and my old one has no service. I really don't want to "Set Up as New iPhone". Buying a new computer is not really an option. Worst case scenario, I will update my iPhone 6 as a new phone and use my old phone as an iPod temporarily.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Make a Genius Appointment at the Apple Store, take your laptop in and get them to help you upgrade it.

  • Having a hard time rebooting iPhone 5 after restore from backup!

Here is my problem, my new iphone 5 did a restore from backup from my 4S.  It took awhile because I have a lot of apps.  Unfortunately not all the folders were intact.  I heard that you have to do a double restore from backup.  Once I did my 2nd restore from backup, the phone goes through a reboot process.  I get the apple logo and then a blank screen.  I have tried holding the home and top button with and without it being plugged in.  I got it working and did a restore from backup again, thinking the folders would be restored.  It did not work again.  After trying about 5 or 6 times, I finally got the phone to come up again.  Unfortunately I still have not gotten my folders back they way it was.  It's partial and now I don't want to try to do another restore from backup.  So I guess itunes is still  not fixed in terms of restoring apps and folders they way it is supposed to be.  Anyone else have this issue?

Sorry to say my friend, but any second you going to lose from that moment on is a lost second. I d like to wish you luck and after all said and done - get back here and tell me if I was wrong. BTW if those were text group messages, your phone was never a problem.

  • Restored from backup after a new iPhone and had photos on the phone. Is it possible to retrieve them?

Before restoring from backup I had a few photos I had taken, is it possible to get them back?
    Thanks.

    Hi Agebrah,
If you set up your iPhone prior to your restore from backup, have iCloud, and had Photo Stream turned on, there is a chance that those photos may be in your Photo Stream. You may find the information in the following article helpful:

My iPhone has crashed during a sync and now I can't restore from backup as it is asking for password to load the backup yet neither the lock code for the phone or my iTunes Password are working... I have no other password to call upon and need the restore to retrieve info onto my phone, I am a real novice to this...... please help, !!!!

If anyone else is looking for a solution to this same problem, I was able to get it working looking through several older discussions.
The solution was to use the password that I had on my iTunes account the very first time I set up the iPhone about a year ago.  I changed my iTunes password about 10 months ago;  but apparently, the backups continue to use the password that existed when the phone was first set up.
A couple of troubling things with this are that 1) I didn't apply a password when I did the backup this afternoon so I don't understand why it was required when I did the restore a few hours later. and 2) it makes zero sense why iTunes would not be smart enough to use the current accout password when requiring the password to restore from a backup made with no password.
I thought iTunes and Apple were smarter than that.  With so many posts stating exactly the same problem, it is clear that this is bug in the software.
    Best,
    Craig
