IPhone syncs automatically after restore despite 'prevent automatic sync' in iTunes preferences

iPhone 4 just restored to deal with memory issue, and after restore, it starts to sync automatically when I connect it to my laptop (OS X 10.9.5, iTunes 11.4) despite checking 'Prevent iDevices from syncing automatically' in iTunes preferences.
iTunes summary screen for the phone, under options, shows a grayed-out 'Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected' phrase, with no box to deselected to fix it.
Any idea what is going on?

This one was odd:  it stopped after the first sync was finally completed--had to interrupt several times to use the phone away from the computer before all the music and photos were fully reloaded.  Now it waits appropriately for next sync.  This is probably why no one else had seen this or replied.

iphone is currently being restored and will automatically back up when it is done.
My iPhone has been showing this for a long time.
is this because my old phone is still Wifi active?
This is a new phone all contacts and other stuff seems to have downloaded.

this has nothing to do with your old phone (connected to wifi or not). It has to do with your wifi and new iphone. check wifi connect/restart router. then restart iphone.

  • After restoring iPod it stops syncing half way

After restoring iPod, it stops syncing while it is downloading music with an error message "Attempting to copy to the disk. iPod failed. The disc could not be read from or written to".
My music is less memory than what my iPod can hold.
    What's up with this?
    THX!

It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

    Hi there computerfailure,
You may want to try removing and reinstalling iTunes as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Syncing iPod After Restoring iPod to Original Settings

I am having a problem syncing my iPod with iTunes after restoring my iPod to it's original settings. I have a 20GB iPod with a click wheel that I recently restored to its original settings because the iPod was locking up. To complete the restore, I had to first force my iPod into disk mode, which allowed me to restore the iPod. After successfully restoring my iPod, I connected my iPod to my computer to sync it with iTunes and download my music library back to my iPod. At first, 3 to 4 songs/podcasts began to download, but then I received the following message:
"Windows-Delayed Write Failed. Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:\iPod_Control\iTunes. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
My OS is Microsoft XP. I went to the Micosoft webpage, but didn't find any helpful information. If anyone has any suggestions on how to solve this problem, your input would be apprecicated.

When you went to Microsoft, did you find/try the following document?

  • Ipod touch wont sync music after restore/update

i recently came back from the apple store after trying to update my ipod to 4.2 and running across many errors. finally, my ipod is working again however as it had to be restored i have to sync everything back onto it. The apps, photos and videos synced fine but when it tries to sync music, itunes freezes right away. it will say syncing whatever song and it just stops. First, the number of songs and what song it syncs first seems to change every time i sync it. Sometimes it says 1 of 1 sometimes 168 out of 168, when it should be at least over 500 songs. Second, after i let the computer with the frozen itunes sit for a while, it came up with 2 error messages; one saying the song could not be synced because of error -20 i think, the second saying the data couldn't be written onto the ipod and then it froze forever on the finishing syncing bar. i've tried restarting my computer, disconnecting the internet and disabling my firewall. itunes is up to date and so is the ipod obviously. we use ca security center. please help i just want to be able to use my ipod again

the ca security people fixed my problem and its syncing fine. if anyone else has problems syncing while running ca security post on this forum and they will pm you the solution

  • App launches automatically after quit or launches automatically by itself

I'm using Leopard and getting some strange behaviour with some apps.
    1) After I quit some apps they open again automatically.
    2) If a open an app, a new instance of it will open automatically after a few seconds.
Looking at this new instance, its launchd that opened it.
I never got this kind of behaviour with Tiger, what could be causing this?
And how do I fix it?

Then, I'm stumped since none of those should be launched by the launchd process, which normally only launches system background processes. Check Accounts->login items for spurious items.

  • Events on iPhone 3GS UNeditable after iOS 5 upgrade/iCloud sync

    Hi,
    I'm using:
    - iPhone 3GS running iOS 5
    - Macbook with iCal
I enabled syncing of ONLY my calendar items into iCloud.  The reminder and events both sync fine back and forth between the phone, iCal, and iCloud.  The problem I have is that after my events have been synced into the cloud, when I view them on my iPhone, the ONLY thing I can do is View (no Edit button).  I am able to add events into the default "Calendar" calendar type (on iPhone) but I have 4 calendars coming from iCloud that I'm unable to edit or add to from the iPhone.  (To be clear, I can easily add to or modify these events from iCal on my Mac.)  Can someone please tell me how I go about being able to edit/add events into the existing 4 calendars going into iCloud?
I've also cross-posted this question in the iCloud category at:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/16476844#16476844
    Thanks!

    Hi all,
I'm not sure but I hope this might be helpful to some of you who are having the same problem as I was having. My iPhone (3GS) was restarting frequently after I have upgraded that to iOS 5. I noticed that the problem of restarting happens when the network is enabled. So I suggest trying to enable the airplane mode and see if the phone still restarts.
When i enabled the airplane mode, the phone was pretty much stable and didn't have any problem. So I've tried disabling the airplane more and disabled the network. I've tried connecting to WiFi network and it was still working fine. So I figured, the problem must be with the network.
The thing I have found and I'm not sure if it might be the same case with you all, is that perhaps the iPhone was trying to get a data network connection and since I didn't have any at that time, it failed and for some reasons it restarted. When I switched on the data connection under the network, the phone was stable again without any problems.
Maybe you want to go through the same process and pin point the problem. I hope this may be helpful to some of you having the same problem as I had.
    Cheers,
    Hadi

  • Iphone 3 dead after restore?

Why is my iphone 3 dead after a restore and update?

    Define "dead."
Did you try resetting> - press both home and on/off buttons for AT LEAST 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

  • Apps won't sync back after restore.

I was actually asking about this yesterday. I actually just got my music back but how do I get my apps back? I restored my ipod last night. I got my songs back like 5 minutes ago by clicking autofill. I've hit Sync iPod a few times but after 5 seconds it says, "Sync Complete". What should I do to get all my apps back.
I actually have about 3 on my ipod that were on after the restore finished.

Are the apps in your library?
Is the iPod signed into the account that purchased the apps?
Do you have the apps checked to sync to your iPod?
Do you have Restrictions set that would prohibit installing apps? (Settings>General>Restrictions).

  • Syncing iPod after restoring computer

I recently had to restore my computer and when I did that, I lost all my music, except what was on my iPod. I hooked it up to my computer only to have it not show up in My Computer, but it will show up in iTunes, except when I go to try and look at it in iTunes, it disconnects. I have no idea what happened or what to do.

    Ha!
I figured it out! It happened to me too and I was really bumming and then I found this!
    http://www.metaphoriclabs.com/articles/5-ways-to-copy-music-off-your-ipod-window s-mac-os-x/
Then it didn't really work so I was bummed even more but what didn't work on mine was because the folders had to be changed from Hidden to Read-Only in the property section of the file. Follow the link's instructions until you find your Ipod_Control -> Music _*Also follow the lastish step of changing the iTunes preferences ITS VERY IMPORTANT!*_.(After following the steps) You can get there by highlighting all files you found on the iPod in the IPod_Control section, going to the very bottom of the right-click menu and selecting Properties. Then from there look for a section called Attributes, uncheck Hidden and check Read-Only.
It works fantastically for me now!
    Hope this helped!

  • HT1430 iphone wont start after restore.

i restored my iphone 3g now it wont start and just shows the itunes logo & the charge plug.  help! i tried to restart it but it just keeps coming back on with the itunes logo & charge plug.

Well, since I had a video signal, I assumed that the HDMI wasn't a problem.
Network (WIFI- using a new Time Capsule Airport) worked with all other Apple devices in the house.
Here's what I did to solve:
    Unplugged ATV2
Waited 3 days (no particular reason- just no time to mess with it)
Performed a restore again (power was not plugged in to ATV during restore)
    Reconnected.
    Now it works fine.
    Can't explain why.
(I don't think anything changed over those 3 days)
I guess if at first you don't restore, try, try again.
    Thanks

  • IPhone 5 will not sync music after restore

I just restored my iPhone 5 because I was having a problem with all the data on the phone saying it was in the "Other" category when I was on the summary tab. So I got the backup and everything synced except my music. I've literally tried just about eveything to synce the music. I tried syncing it wirelessly but it won't even connect to my computer. Also the problem with all the data being displayed under the "Other" category is still a problem. Any help?

I have a similar problem. Mine started with iTunes putting multiple versions of the same songs (whole and seemingly random albums) onto my iPod 5, but after trying to remedy that I now cannot sync any music of any sort. It took random songs off and then started getting stuck at the "waiting to apply changes" stage (as apparently many people have seen) and after trying all the things that are supposed to work I now have an iPod that doesn't have any music on it (because a lot of my music was not purchased on iTunes) and won't sync music or finish any other kind of sync.
It seems like the "fixes" discovered so far don't work for everyone.
My iPod is 5th gen running iOS 7.0.4 (but problem started on 7.0.3) with the latest version of iTunes, for reference.

  • IPhone not syncing correctly after restore.

I have an iPhone 4.  I'm having storage issues, and I've been told that I should back up and then do a factory restore of the phone to delete the stored history on my apps.  I've done that once with success.  I tried again last night and everything seemed fine until I went to listen to music.  There was nothing there.  No big deal, I'll just add songs to my iPhone and sync it.  It will not work.  I've tried restarting my computer and iPhone.  Nothing is working.  Also, the status bar at the bottom of my iPhone screen on the computer, where it shows the space that is being used on my phone, is all yellow.  There is nothing indicated for my music or apps.  I've attempted to do some research on the issues, but I am not finding anything.  Suggestions?  Thoughts?  Thanks so much for your help!

Somehow mine seems to be working now.  If you haven't yet...try shutting the phone completely down (holding the wake/sleep button on top and the home button at the same time) then restarting, then sync again.  You might find something in this thread helpful too.:
