IPhone with an iBook G3/700MHz?

Am thinking of giving my folks my old iPhone when the new ones come out, but would they be able to use it with their G3 iBook? thanks!

Not completely sure about the iPhone, but the iPod touch works with a G3 iBook - I tested it out of curiosity a while ago (the iBook needs to be running 10.4.10).
Although Apple states system requirements as USB 2.0, it seemed to work perfectly fine in my test, although obviously slower to transfer files due to only having USB 1.1.
The iPhone runs the same OS as the touch so I'm assuming it'll work the same - you could maybe check in the iPhone forum.

You can't. You need a Mac with an Intel processor. You need a new computer.

  • Syncing my iPhone 5 with an iBook G4

    Hi all,
I've just got my lovely shiny new iPhone 5 & when I connect to my laptop, it tells me I need 10.7 or higher. But I can't get that on my iBook G4!!! How do I sync my apps/music/books with my phone?
    Many thanks in advance!!!

The iPhone 5 can't be synced with an iBook G4 or any other PowerPC Mac. Depending on the type of content and the country you're in, you may be able to freely redownload it from the iTunes Store using the iPhone itself.

  • HT5213 Can you publish to iPhone with iBooks Author?

Can you publish to iPhone with iBooks Author?

    No, sorry.
iBooks Author creates a hybrid epub that works on iPad only.
Use Pages, InDesign, etc. to generate a standard epub that will work on both iPhone and iPad if that is your goal.

  • Upgrading from old Mac to new- how to sync iPhone with new Mac?

    Hi all,
My dad is upgrading from an old iBook to a nice new iMac. He has spent quite a few days tweaking his new iMac and importing old files and folders. The one thing we haven't yet done, though, is iTunes. He has an iBook G3 that he syncs his iPhone with, and he wants to be able to "move" his whole iTunes setup to the new iMac so that it picks up right where the iBook left off, without needing to reset the iPhone.
One thing to keep in mind is that the iBook had a tiny hard drive and thus the music files are actually on an external hard drive. I was wondering how to go about this feat. I read that using Migration Assistant deletes everything off the new Mac, so that's not an option at this point. Thanks for the help!

If you had use Migration Assistant to start with it would have been easier.

  • HT5085 I am having trouble with an iBooks but it is not working. Any hints?

I am having trouble with downloading iBooks. The book has many repeated pages and missing pages. I have tried going to "purchased" and downloading it again but the download doesn't work. Thanks.!

On an iPad there should be a Store button at the top left of the iBooks app (top right if you are on an iPhone or iPod Touch) - tap that to go into the store, and there should be a Purchased tab at the bottom right of the store page from where you can re-download past ibook purchases (assuming that they remain available in the store).
Whether you can buy books from within the ibookstore will depend upon what country that you are in, some countries currently just have free books.

  • I have an old iBook G3 700MHz - can it go wirelessly and how if so?

Hi! Can anyone advise me please.... i want to give my old mum my old iBook which is a POWER PC G3 going by the more about your Mac info and the list Apple have on their site as it is 700MHz. It is white and the screen is about 12" wide... can i get it to connect wirelessly? What can i buy to get it to do this? Are there options? Will it be safe?
I have read somewhere that these old iBooks have 1.1 ports and most adapters are for 2.0 ports so just want the most cost effective way to do this so she can use it without being connected to a Ethernet wire. Help please....

Hello and welcome to the support community.
The most common way to get your iBook G3 on the Internet wirelessly, is via the Airport Card which can be installed under the keyboard. This Airport card can be paucashed from online parts stores or via eBay.
Note it's not an AirPort Extreme as that is for the later G4 models.
The only down side to using the Airport card is having the ability to connect to WPA2 wifi's.
if the wifi has a security encryption of WPA2 then it wont work with Airport cards.
The only other alternative is a USB wifi card which plugs into your USB port, however you have a USB 1 port and most USB 2 wifi devices may not be compatible with your iBook.
If you choose this option, I suggest you research the adapter and it's capabilities before your buy it.
    Best of luck

  • How can I sync my Palm memos with my iBook/Apple application(s)?

Hi, I used to sync my Palm Tungsten E2 with my office PC (to Lotus Notes via Intellisync, a 3rd party system - not a good experience). I gave up and recently set my Palm up to sync with my iBook G4 at home. However, I've discovered that iSync only syncs Contact and Calendar information, at least that's how it appears. I want to also sync my Palm memos, a Palm application that I use extensively. Does anyone know how I can do this? I haven't been able to figure out a way to do this in iSync, at least not a way that is obvious. Thanks in advance for your advice...
And yes, someday I will get an iPhone so this is all moot! But until then...

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
To enable memo synchronization with your Palm device, simply drag the following pair of conduits…
    • Memo Conduit
    • Memos Conduit
…out of the Disabled Conduits folder where the iSync Palm Conduit installer placed them, and back into the active Conduits folder. This will re-enable memo synchronization to the Palm Desktop application.
And, don't count on the iPhone resolving your issues: there is no synchronized equivalent to the Palm memo capability in the iPhone and iTunes.

  • Iphone knocks my iBook offline?

why does my iphone kick my iBook offline? is this a problem with my D-link router? I have a Dlink WBR 1310 router, and I got it for free.

The basic reason is that they are both trying to use the same IP address. A description I just read of this device, states that it "includes basic routing and security features to help you create a simple wireless network for your apartment". It may be unable to react quickly enough although the basic specs do say, "multiple computers."
I recently had a similar problem when I bought a new iMac. The iPod touch was unaffected, but if the iMac started up first, it would grab the IP number that the MacBookPro had used: each computer wants to use the settings that it was using before sleep or shutdown.
To get round this initially, I restarted the router (I use Airport Extreme); but now they behave themselves and have different IP numbers.
Try restarting the router, of course, but also try starting the computer and touch in a different order.

  • Huge display problem iBook G3 700Mhz

    Hello everyone,
I live in the Netherlands (Amsterdam) and I am the proud owner of an iBook G3 700MHz 10.4.8. I bought it about 4 years ago and I am using it every day.
Since a couple of months my iBook has a display (hardware) problem what causes the displaylight to fall out. In the beginning when this problem started, I thought it was just a little problem, because when I moved the screenpart of my iBook (in the direction of opening or shutting down an iBook) the displaylight came back, This how I could use my iBook again.
However today I found that this trick doesn't work anymore and it seems that the light of my iBook has disappeared forever.
I heard someone saying that this displayproblem is a known problem with iBook G3's and that Apple is offering a something that will fix my iBook for free. Is this true?
Can someone please help me with my problem. I am pretty desperate, because I have a lot of important files on my iBook and besides that I have put a lot of time in installing a big number of applications. Please tell me what to do and which steps to take.
thank you in advance for al your help
    greetings
    Cem

Hi, Cem. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The free fix you've heard about is the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program. However, your problem is almost certainly not the logic board.
What you are experiencing has been experienced by quite a few others. The cable gets pinched in the hinge, causing intermittent blackouts which are corrected by adjusting the angle of the display. Eventually, the cable can break completely, and it sounds like that is what has happened with yours.

  • IBook G3 700Mhz won't power on at all

    Hello,
My iBook G3 700Mhz (CD-ROM, 2002 model) recently died completely - it won't power on, there is no chime, no disk activity whatsoever. There were no indications that there was a fault prior to this - I had used it with no problems just a few hours beforehand. I have heard of logic board failures, but from what I have read some form of activity still occurs, or there are faults that occur sporadically shortly before it completely fails. My iBook has run perfectly since I bought it in 2003 with no sign of any problems at all.
Is this likely to be a logic board fault? Or could it be a fault with the PSU? The battery still holds a charge (it is on 2 lights), the power cable still turns orange when plugged in, so power is still getting to the machine.
I appreciate any help anyone can give - I would like to be able to get to the data on my hard drive, as although I have made regular backups, the last piece of work I was doing (the day my book died) will still be there, and hasn't been backed-up.
    Thanks,
    Andrew
    (iBook spec: G3 700Mhz "P72B", CD-ROM drive, 640Mb RAM, Airport, OSX 10.4.10)

Thank you very much for your help, very much appreciated. Unfortunately, I have no friends with iBooks (just MacBook Pros - very flash), but I have ordered an ibook G4 which, should it eventually arrive (I managed to be sent a job lot of laptop hard disks by accident today, which was akin to rubbing salt in my wounds) I will use to test the power cord.
I think the power problem sounds the most likely candidate, thanks to the article link you sent me. One thing I noticed last night when trying out your tips was that when the power lead was connected, the battery life indicator stayed on the whole time. I'm not sure I remember it doing that before, so that could be an indication of the problem. Also, the ring on the power cord stayed orange throughout, despite the battery showing full power. There are no Apple Stores where I live, but I am hopefully visiting a city with one this Weekend, so I may well take my iBook with me for diagnosis. I'm not sure I can justify the price of a logic board repair, but a PSU replacement might be more palatable.
Again, thanks very much S.U. and Ronda. I will keep you posted on any further developments.

  • How do I use your iPhone with multiple iTunes libraries

Hi, I have my music spread out between 3 seperate Itunes libraries on 3 different profiles on my computer. I have the newest generation Ipod Nano, Ipod Shuffle, and Iphone 4s. My Ipod's are both full, so I've decided to start putting music onto my phone. With my Ipod's, I can plug them into one profile on the computer, download the music on the Itunes library that exists on that profile, then do the same with the other profiles with no issue. However when I try to do this with my phone, It asks me to erase the music I have gotten from one Itunes library and sync with the current library, as soon as I plug it in to a different Itunes on one of the other profiles. I have my Iphone configured with the Manually manage music option, and I still haven't found a way to use my Iphone with multiple music libraries. PLEASE HELP

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12113 - If you use manual syncing, you can sync items from more than one iTunes library to your iPod. (You can sync iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad with only one iTunes library.)
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202 - When manually managing content, you can add content from multiple libraries to your iPod or iPad. Even when manually managing music, some content may be available from only one library at time. This includes all content on iPhone and video content on iPod and iPad.
They seem inconsistent as far as the iPad is concerned but in both articles the iPhone appears to only be able to sync to one library at a time.

  • How do I resync a song manually deleted on iPhone with 'swipe to delete'?

I accidently deleted a song while browsing music on my iPhone (with the swipe to delete function) and now I am not able to resync the song back onto the phone even though it's still happily there in iTunes on my iMac.
I've tried explicitly adding it to a playlist that enforces a sync to the iPhone and I can actually see iTunes telling me that it's syncing it to the phone, however it still doesn't show up when on the phone - so I guess the iPhone is somehow remembered the delete operation and is hiding it from me?
Does anyone know how I might get this song showing back up on my iPhone???
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Andy

It depends on which country that you are in as to whether you can re-download it - it's not currently possible in all countries (what you can re-download, and where, is listed on this page). If you can re-download music then it should appear in the Purchased section under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes, and the Purchased tab at the bottom of the iTunes app on the iPad : re-downloading
