Iphoto 8 moving photos into trash bin!! Help!!

When I try to import photos from my digital camera to iphoto the pics get put into the trash bin and it will not let me put them back. Its not the iphoto trash bin, its the desktop trash bin. I can see them in there and when I right click on them and try to open them with iphoto it gives me an error saying "The following files could not be imported. (The file is in the iphoto library)" Then it gives me a list of all the pics it wouldn't move. There is no option to restor photos to library. Most of these pictures have been in my iphoto before and the new ones went in there for a minute but right after I imported them they just moved over to the trash bin!! HELP!!!!!!
Thanks

Sounds like a damage library.  Try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

iPhoto, moving photo's to my document folder, and remove thumbnails from iphoto.
How to? Please...I cut and paste items, it is removed from iphoto for a few seconds then they appear again.

The photos that are appearing on the mini - are they photos taken with an iPhone or iPad? If so, open System Preferences on both computers and select the iCloud tab. On the mini, click the Photos checkmark off and on the MBP click the Photos checkmark on (if it isn't already), then start iPhoto and select Preferences. Select the Photo Stream tab and make sure Photo Stream is on.

  • A copy of EVERY photo we have in iphoto is in the TRASH? HELP!!

We have 75,806 photos in iphoto and the exact same number in the trash can in iphoto. When we import more photos on a daily basis, a copy is put straight in the trash bin!! We are too scared to delete the trash can....!!! help!
We have iphoto 11 and installed it as soon as it was released.
We are not sure how long this has been happening.
To add - strangle we have a shortcut to iphoto icon appeared on the desktop - again, not sure how long that has been there, or what will happen if we delete it.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • All photos and trash bin

I was looking at a picture under all photos. I then closed out the window but reopened it later. The picture was no longer under the all photos tab. It was in the trash bin. So is it possible to still view a photo under all photos even if it has been moved to the trash.

  • Does iPhoto copy photos into the iPhoto library or move them in?

I moved about 40GB of photos onto my Macbook when I bought it.  It looks like iPhoto duplicated them because the iPhoto library is about the same size as the folder in my finder.  Does it copy photos into the library rather than move everything?

Would there be anything in iPhoto that it may not have copied?
It will only have imported (and copied) only those things you told it to.
is there anything in iPhoto that won't be somewhere else on my hard drive?
Anything that was imported directly - from a camera, for instance.

  • Iphoto splitting photos into separate events

IPhoto used to have a selection to turn off autosplitting photos into events when importing.  That option is gone.  The best I can find not is to autosplit items into one event per week.  Is there a way to do this (i.e. through the terminal) or is there a third-party option?
    thanks!

After looking around on the discussions I guess you're right about it not being an option, but I can tell you that I routinely import photos from our camera spanning multiple days (weeks even) without iPhoto autosplitting them into separate events.  The autosplitting just cropped up today, and whether the older behavior was due to a corrupted preferences file or some other glitch, I want it back.  I appreciate your orgainizational advice, but I simply do not care to work that way - I much preferred the old iPhoto 'camera roll' analogy and hate when iPhoto second-guesses me about how to organize my photos.  Is there a way to force iPhoto to stop autosplitting?
    Thanks!

  • I have trouble in moving photos into Premier Elements 9

I am using Premiere Elements 9 on a IMac with 24ins screen and the latest operating system.Looking at my photos in Organiser or Photoshop Elements 9 they are of the original quality ,but when I import photos into Premiere Elements they are greatly degraded.I have tried deleting the programe and reinstalling twice,I have the programme on the original DVDs. Can anyone help.

Have a look at my FAQ to the right of this forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/431851?tstart=30
As I explain in greater detail in my books, video is of a much lower resolution than most photos. So it doesn't matter how large the photo you drop into a video editor, you get roughly the equivalent of 640x480. That's video resolution. (If you're using hi-def, you get more -- but still nowhere near what you get in print photos.)
Using photos that are larger than 1000x750 pixels, then, not only overloads the program, but it's usually a waste of time too (since they take longer to render). You'll still only get 640x480 pixels (actually 720x480 non-square pixels) when it's converted to video.
Also remember to render your timeline (press Enter) every time you add a photo to it or there is a red line above your clips. When this red line turns green, you'll see a much better representation of what your final output will look like rather than a low-rez soft render.

  • In iPhoto, moving Photo Stream from 'recents' to 'library'

    As per the title.
In iPhoto, I have Photo Stream set up fine (ish). I want all my photos to be imported to iPhoto but I want them in a folder of their own. I have set up a smart folder to import any photos that are named 'IMG_'. This works if I choose for photo stream to be automatically imported into photos, events and places etc (which eventually I want to turn off but still have them smartly imported).
However, I've found it only smartly imports photos from any albums under the Library tab, and not from the Recents tab (where photo stream is). Therefore, is there any way to move the location of photo stream from Recents to under Library instead?
Many thanks for replies or work around solutions on how to do this.
    Lewis

'Recents' are just some handy shortcuts to material frequently (or recently) accessed. The last couple of items, the last import and so on. Again, it's not a place, it's a list. The Photostream is a link to the items in the stream - stored in your Users/Library Application Support (you can see this simply by going File -> Reveal in Finder), but the Photostream Events point directly to material stored in the Library Package.
I would like my photo stream photos imported into an album other than the general Photos album in my library.
You're going to need to clarify terms a little. You're using folders and albums interchangeably and they're not the same thing, and sometimes you're using either to refer to Events.
Every Photo is in the LIbrary.
The Library can be viewed in wo ways: via Events or Photos. That's exactly the same material viewed from different perspectives.
Every photo in the Library is in an Event, and these correspond to the folders they are stored in on the HD, at time of import (though this can change, shots moved from Event to Event do not move on the HD)
Albums are arbitrary collections created by the user. You decide what photos are in an Album. Photos in an Album reference the actual shots in the Library. They don't use any extra disk space.
Folders cannot contain Photos. They can contain Albums or other Folders.
So, if you can clarify exactly what you're hoping for perhaps we can figure out a way to achieve it.

  • IPhoto downloaded photos into an event and now they don't show up. They were deleted off the camera under the assumption they were in my library now I don't have anything.  Does anyone have any useful advice?

I downloaded photos from my camera to iPhoto 11.  They were accepted as a new event.  I deleted off the camera disk.  Now, after going back into the events folder, the photos are not there. Does anyone have some useful advice? I've lost about 200+ photos...

You can recover the shots from the Card with an app like MediaRecover
    As for the Library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How do I resolve this error while importing iPhoto 11 photos into Photoshop Elements 11?

I am trying to import my iPhoto library into Elements.  It gets part way through the process and then tells me that the import failed and provides the following message:
2090 Media files have been imported.  19 Media files were not imported because the either already present in the catalog or are not supported
It unfortunately give you no indication about what you can do to resolve or fix this problem.  Can someone provide some guidance here?

Hi, I am not a user of elements however my wife is.  She has been complaining of this issue since we have over 75000 pictures and 15000 will not import into the catalog. After searching forum after forum I could not find a solution. So I gave it some thought. After a little testing I found out why. Remember that Elements catalog is like a long list of file names.  Like many people who take lots of pictures unless you sit and rename every picture to a unique file name then you will have this problem.  Example: Your camera shoots pictures and names them Img_0001, Img_0002, Img_0003 etc. when you download them to a folder called "76 class reunion" and add to elements. Then delete the pictures from your camera and take new ones. Your camera starts again with Img_0001, Img_0002, Img_0003 etc.  You import them to a folder called "78 trip to thailand". Then try adding them to Elements and the message "...media files were not imported because they are already Most cameras keep numbering up but not all. At some point they repeat so it could be a year in between before your pictures present...."
Or course they are after thousands of picutres you will duplicate the files names several times. Just rename the image files in "78 trip to thailand" to be like 1978-Thailand-img_0001, 1978-Thailand-img_0002 etc and then import/add to elements and success.  You might ask why they are in differing folders I am importing them from it should catalog the folder and file. Well I could go into a long discussion about databases however just know this. If you try to copy Img_0001 from "78 trip to thailand" to the folder "76 class reunion" you will get a message saying do you want to overwrite the file. This is because they have the same name (can exits in different folders but not the same). Elements takes all the file names and places them in a list so each file name is UNIQUE and cannot be duplicated. Then it catalogs where they are found (ei the folder/directory).
If you are now depressed that you need to rename all your files one at a time.  Try Bulk Rename Utility. It is great and has many renaming capabilties to rename files to your delight.

  • I need information about moving photo files--can you help?

My PC internal hard drive C: is full so I can't add more photos.  I discovered the hard drive is partitioned and has another drive D: that is empty and has more than enough space.  How do I move all my photos from C: to D: and leave the Elements program and the Catalog on C: and have the organizer recognize where the photos went?  This seems to be a different procedure than moving to a new computer.  Do I use the Move command? Do I use the Backup and Reconnect procedure? Do I do something else?

    RussellWood wrote:
Do I use the Move command? Do I use the Backup and Reconnect procedure?
    Both methods are valid.
Using the move command is simpler and quicker. Many users don't recommend it on account of problems in older versions. My own experience is different (PSE12) : while doing speed tests in moving a whole folder tree from one physical drive to another, my computer was struck by a power outage at 95%... the process aborted and I was reverted to the original situation without losing anything. The transaction rollback worked perfectly. Moving to another logical drive is the same.
Using the backup and restore (not reconnect) feature is recommended for an excellent reason : maximum safety : nothing is changed in the original drive, plus you get a backup. Since you have to state a new custom location, the catalog is also restored in the new drive. The process is longer : backup and restore (twice the time compared to move), checking the result on the new drive, deleting the catalog and the media files in the original drive, then using the catalog manager to move the catalog back to C:
My own compromise would be to do a full backup (just in case) then doing the move option.
    Do I do something else?
You could... there is  the solution to move files externally with the explorer/finder, then using the reconnect feature. There are Lightroom gurus who advocate that procedure : to tell you the truth, I have never got good results in the organizer for big libraries...
I'll just mention for users acquainted with database management that if time is a problem for me, I'll copy all my pictures folder tree with the explorer to the same exact location on the new drive, then I'll use a sqlite utility to update the drive identifier in a copy of the catalog. After checking the result, I'd delete the original folder tree.

  • After I delete a message, it doesn't always go into Trash bin but disappears.

In a number of instances, when I delete an e-mail from my Inbox, it doesn't appear in Trash but completely disappears--usually it's one I decide I need to look at it again. Most of my real junk mail stays in my Trash folder until I empty the Trash folder.
