IPhoto 9.6.1 can't compare photos?!?!

Okay, so all of Apple's support documents say if you have two images highlighted in an album you can click the 'Edit' button & they will display side-by-side so you can compare and/or edit them.
A more complex process than on previous iPhoto version but nonetheless...
So I follow those steps word for word and... nothing.
Only one photo opens...
Any suggestions?

Strange... but although I have never done this myself (I hardly ever edited in iPhoto), and am now getting acquainted with Photos (where I see no way to do what you want), I gave it a try.
Opened an event, selected two photos and pressed the Edit-button. I do get the images side-by-side, with at the right-hand side all tools to edit. You can only edit one photo at a time, but you can switch between the two displayed photos.

  • Iphoto 2.0.1 can't see photos in viewer window.

I have 6500 photos in a very sluggish iphoto.
I have tried creating new libraries to split up original library into separate years to speed things up, using Finder window as suggested in iPhoto Help, and using iPhoto Buddy. I have moved files across from one library to another in the Finder window but when opening up new library it says it contains no photos. Photos do exist in files in Finder and appear in Preview when double clicked in Finder window. Why can't iPhoto see them?
I then tried to import the photos back into original library and they can't be seen there either.
Help! This is driving me slightly crazy!

I have tried creating new libraries to split up original library into separate years to speed things up, using Finder window as suggested in iPhoto Help
I'm pretty confident that iPhoto Help did not suggest using a Finder window to split up your iPhoto library. Your iPhoto Library folder is the iPhoto database, and any changes made using the Finder would certainly corrupt the database (the results of which you are now experiencing).
You can create multiple iPhoto libraries (that IS described in iPhoto Help), but only one library can be in use at any one time. As Peter has mentioned, moving photos from one library to another requires an iPhoto export from one library, then an iPhoto import to the other (with a library switch in between, requiring an iPhoto restart). If you did anything else, then your iPhoto database is corrupt.
If you've actually pulled your library apart the way you've described, you might as well pull all the year folders out onto the desktop, trash the remaining iPhoto Library folder, and start iPhoto, letting it create a new library. ONce the iPhoto window is open (and empty), drag your year folders to the Albums panel of iPhoto to import them -- you'll lose whatever monthly organization you might have had.
Post back before you do anything if it looks like I've misunderstood what you've tried to do.

  • Iphoto 9.1.5 can't import photos

After updating my daughter's MacBook (Intel May 2006 - Core Duo) to 10.6.8 and the her iPhoto 9.1.1 to 9.1.5 - she cannot open any photos via sd card insertion.  iPhoto opens but the the gears spin forever and then iPhoto has to be shut down via cmd-cntrl-escape (forced shutdown).
    Why is this happening?
Any help URGENTLY needed as I am not here to help her - just a short visit -- and she is not a computer person-- and I guess neither am I!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Can't compare Nikon D750 Raw images in version 9.6.1 of iPhoto.

This is in response to Terence Devlin’s last reply for which their was no provision for a direct reply.
I just made an interesting discovery. Here’s the story. I have iPhoto Library Manager and have created many libraries using that program. On a hunch I tried comparing photos in several of the libraries. Selecting two or more photos and then clicking Edit did not work in any case. However, with the single exception noted below, the method I have been using for several years did work. This method is to select two or more photos, then right click on one of the photos and click on Edit in iPhoto in the menu that appears.
So far I am experiencing a problem in comparing only the Raw images I have downloaded from the new Nikon D750 camera that I acquired just last Friday. Per my recent inquiry you advised upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite and from iPhoto v9.5.1 to v9.6.1 in order to be able to download Raw images from my new D750 to iPhoto. Those upgrades went well. However, it appears that there is a bug in version 9.6.1 of iPhoto in regard to its ability to compare Raw images from the Nikon D750. How do I notify Apple of this problem so that they can fix it? In the meantime do you know of a workaround?

How do I notify Apple of this problem so that they can fix it?
Since iPhoto has been dropped by Apple in leu of Photos  there's little hope that they will do any fixing on 9.6.1. However, you can report the bug to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html and hope they'll look into it.

  • After migrating data from Time Machine, some of my photos are not showing up in iPhoto. I get a 'dashed rectangle." When I click on it I get ' ! in a Triangle" When I click on that, I actually can see the photo. I want to see my photos

After migrating data from Time Machine, some of my photos are not showing up in iPhoto LIbrary view. I get a 'dashed rectangle." When I click on it I get ' ! in a Triangle" When I click on that, I actually can see the photo. I want to see all  my photos in 'Library' view, and I can't figure out how these photos seem to be arbitrarily hidden. Help, please.

Try these for the first attempt:
First be sure to have a backup copy of the library if you already don't have one.

  • Lightroom will not import my photos.   It did up to a week ago.   I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago).   I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto

Lightroom will not import my photos.   It did up to a week ago.   I have changed cards and cameras (both worked two weeks ago).   I can import the photos to Picasa and iPhoto.   I get the following error message:
Some import operations were not performed.
The following files were not imported because they could not be read  [followed by a list of the files I wanted to import]
Thumbnails show up.  LR just will not import them.
Any idea what is going wrong?

If the Import button is not clickable, that means that Lightroom thinks you have no new photos to import (one possible reason is that they are duplicates)
So, you need to figure out why Lightroom thinks that. The way I would do this is to search your Library module for at least one of the photos, by file name. To do this, you would follow all 4 of these steps in sequence:
Click on All Photographs in the Catalog Panel on the left of the Library Module
Turn off all Filters (Ctrl-L or Cmd-L once or twice)
Expand all stacks: Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks
Search for one or more of the photos using the Filter Bar (press backslash), search by File Name

  • A "genius" at an Apple store told me to delete the photos from my documents folder and trash them and I would still be able to keep them in iPhoto.  Now I cannot use the photos other than in the iPhoto file. Can this be undone?

How can I retreive deleted iPhotos which were deleted from the documents and trash files?  I stupidly did this because a "genius" from Apple Store assured me that I would still have access to the photos.

    Check iPhoto's Advanced preference pane to see if it's set to a referenced or managed library;
If it's set to a referenced library you photos are gone.
If that's the case they might be able to be recovered with a file recovery app like   SubrosaSoft FileSalvage.  It will run in demo mode so you can see if it can recover your photos before having to purchase it. Use the iMac as little as possible till them so as not to overwrite them.
If it's set to a managed library launch iPhoto with the Option+Command keys held down and rebuild the library's databse file.
What verson of iPhoto and system are you running?

  • I can't move photos from iPhoto to my secondary hard drive or to a burn folder.  I have never had a problem with this before.  This is something new.   They will not drop into either folder.  Nothing happens.

I can't move photos from iPhoto to my secondary hard drive or to a burn folder.  I have never had a problem with this before.  This is something new.   They will not drop into either folder.  Nothing happens.
I checked my secondary harddrive and there is plenty of memory.
I emptied my burn folder but the photos still will not drop into it.
I created a new burn folder, no luck with this either.
230 photos is the maximum size of the events I am trying to move from iPhoto to save elsewhere.
I have shut down and restarted my computer.   No change. The photos still will not drop out of iPhoto.
My Mac Computer Storage shows that I have 62.2GB free out of 249.2GB (movies, photos and contacts taking up the most space)
My Lacie External Harddrive (2TB capacity) shows that I have 1.79TB available.  It shows that 207,729,520,640 bytes (207.73 GB on disk) are used.
I have never had this problem before.  It is usually very easy to move my photos from iPhoto.
I am not a computer expert (I work in surgery so don't have a need for lots of computer knowledge) so please explain in simple terms.
Thank you so much for any help you can provide.
    I really appreciate it.

YES Terence!  Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop.   But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now.   Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore?   I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs.  I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly.  I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?!  I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.
Thank you so much for your help.   I really, really appreciate it.

  • In Iphoto, How can I delete photos on my iphone that have already been imported?

I've just spent over the hour on the phone with my sister (who has a law degree, I have an engineering degree), and we could not figure out how to delete photos from our iphones that have already been imported into Iphoto.  I thought Apple was the company that made things easier???  This is a nightmare.
    The way it should work:
    - Launch iPhoto
    - Stand on iPhone (Under Devices)
    - Select photo to delete (under Already Imported)
    - Right-Click Delete (or Send to Trash, or Something)
Obviously we are not thinking like Apple thinks...does anyone know how to do this, or are these programs as crap as they seem and you have to go back to your iphone and select each photo one at a time (all several thousands of them).
Don't even get me started on how messed up my photo libraries have become now that I have (fully) switch over to Apple.
By the way, I like my Mac for everything else...but its photo capabilities suck.

Thanks, I was hoping for something a little more selective that I could do from my computer, but I think this is helpful.
Maybe the best approach to get this under control is:
    - Import all photos into iphoto
    - Delete all photos per your suggestion
    - Selectivly sync the photos you want put back on your phone
Thanks again, I didn't know this and is a helpful trick!
P.S. I still wouldn't mind finding a way to selectively delete files that are on my iphone from my computer.  (In Windows, you can go to My Computer -> Iphone, open the folder and delete what you want).

  • Can't access photos inside iPhoto Library

    Hi
When I go to advanced / Chose Photos To Share i get directed to the files in the Finder - from which location I cannot use the 'Show Package Contents' facility to unbundle iPhoto Library into its constituant folders - to then select the folders in iPhoto I want to select for Apple TV. Can anyone tell me how I can access my photos bundled within iPhoto Library via the 'Chose Photos To Share' command in iTunes?
    Grateful for any suggestions here

Thanks Winston but no cigar! get it? Ha ha.... sorry...but I already did that and all I could access were the files outside of the 'iPhoto Library' file which obly accounts for a small % of my photos.

How can I edit photos in iPhoto in Photoshop Elements?  I select PE in iPhoto preferences but they stay in iPhoto for editing.

Here's something you can try with a copy of your current library.
1 - go to iPhoto's Events preference pane and set the auto split option to 1 day per even.
2 - go the the Events mode, select all Events.
3 - go to the Events menu  and and select Autosplit Selected Events.
which will give you an event for each day.
4 - again select all events (although it might be better do to fewer at a time) and export them to your desired destination via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  menu option with the following settings:
The workflow above will produce a folder for each days photos with the date as the folder's title.
