IPhoto 9.6 deleted all photos in 2 of my albums -- any way to recover?

Help! I'm using iPhoto 9.6 and Yosemite 10.10.2. I opened iPhoto today to find that all the photos in 2 of my albums were gone. The empty albums are there, just no photos. All my other albums/photos are fine. Does anyone know if there's a way to recover the 2 albums? I haven't updated anything recently or moved any files or anything like that. Thanks!

Are the photos still in the event?
Where is your iphoto library located? If on an external drive what format is it (it must be Mac OS extended (journaled) ) and how is it connected to your Mac?

  • Edited iphoto album but it deleted my edits and went to original album, any way to recover?

I edited an iphoto album.  Macbook shut down and reverted to the original album.  Any way to get the edited album back?  About 3000 photos.

Go to your Pictures folder and select iPhoto.  Enter Time Machine from the menu bar at the top.  Once in TM go back in time (on the right side if the window) to the backup just before the problem happened.  Select the iPhoto LIbrary and click on the Restore button.

Today I completed a software update for my iPhone 5 without backing it up because I did not receive a warning that all my data would be erased and so, did not realize it would be an issue. Upon completing the update, I realized my mistake but figured it was too late to revert the damage and continued with the restoration of my phone to its factory settings.
After completing the update, I realized just how much data was lost (including important notes with financial information and images and videos of recent trips around Europe). Now I am desperate to try to recover the data deleted in the update. Is there any chance at all that I can recover something? The notes and videos are most important to me. I am also missing many Messages but that is less important to me.
    Can anyone please help?
    Any response is greatly appreciated!
Here's the official article from Apple on how to update your iOS.
Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    Before you update
Back up your device to iCloud or iTunes.
That's virtually the very first thing it says to do.
There's no excuse to not have your data backed up prior to updating.  Tell me, what would you have done if, instead of this being an issue where you updated your iOS and had an error, if instead you had dropped your iPhone and it was damaged beyond repair, or if it was stolen or lost, etcetera.
Perhaps you'd been backing up to iCloud and didn't realize it?  Maybe the missing Notes data is linked to a Mail account?  You might be able to reconstruct the data, but it's going to be an uphill battle.
Best of luck.  Make sure to backup more frequently in the future.  There are two types of people in the world; those who have lost data, and those that will lose data.  The only difference is how prepared you are for that event.

  • Hi, I would like to know how can I recover a document from pages that I didn't save anytime and instead of clicking the button save I clicked the delete button at the end. Is there any way to recover it?

Hi, I would like to know how can I recover a document from pages that I didn't save anytime and instead of saving the doc I clicked the delete button. Is there any way to recover it?

Regardless of application, the first step that I take is to save and name the current document — even if it has no content yet. With Pages, this good habit enables autosave. As you add content, your document revision history is restorable via the File Revert To menu. The delete key has the same document foreboding as only teaching a pet raven to speak "Nevermore."

  • Can I delete ALL photo's not used in Albums?

    Hi,
So, my iPhoto Library has become too big to manage. about 40 gigs. My albums are filled with my selected photos. Is there I way I can delete everything else, not used in an album? Do I have to click on the photo tab and delete manually?
I hate to burn all the albums, delete everything, then re-import.
Anyone use Media 100 Editing software? There is a great feature that allows you to remove all media not being used in a bin or project. I'm wondering if there is something similar in iPhoto.
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks
    Ethan-

Try creating a smart album with the following criteria: *+Album is not any+*. Then apply a new keyword to those photos in the smart album.
Next check your other albums to see if that keyword appears in any of them. If not then you can be assured that deleting the photos in the smart album will leave only those in the other album. Of course to be on the safe side backup you library before deleting the photos.
Also don't delete more than about 100 photos at a time. iPhoto has a know disposition to choke when trying to delete large number of photos at one time.

  • All my downloads have vanished - is there any way to recover them?

Today, I started downloading a file, and opened the Downloads window to check on speed. As I watched (and without clicking on anything after pulling the list up on the screen) the entire download history vanished, apart from the currently downloading file. Is there any way to get it back? I've tried searching for a deleted version of the places.sqlite file, but it seems it simply updated the existing file in deleting my data, and so there is no old version for me to use to recover my downloads. Note that my history is intact, with no problem there at all. But the download list is stubbornly empty. I've tried restarting the browser, but even that had no effect.
I know about database expiration, and pruning away old data, but I lost literally everything, even things I downloaded ten minutes earlier.
I am guessing that the download history is gone for good now, but I have to say it's not reasonable for a browser to act so destructively to user data without a specific user request, and without a way of recovering from the browser's failure.
Why not automatically backup these important sqlite files in the same way as bookmarks etc are backed up? Very poor indeed.

Are they removed from the Downloads folder in the Library?
Also note the the downloads are treated differently when you are in private browsing mode and are only shown temporarily on the about:downloads page (this page works in both modes).
Downloads would normally not be removed unless you would clear the downloads via the right-click context menu or otherwise clear (recent) history.

  • All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the Finder pictures folder? It seems crazy to have them duplicated (all are backed up externally). And are they full size images in iPhoto?

All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the finder picture folder? It seems crazy to have them dupllcated ( all are backed up anyway). And are they the full sized images stored in iPhoto?

Assuming you have iPhoto set to the Default setting, then yes, your full sized photos are copied into the iPhoto Library and so you can delete your own stored in the Finder.
Easiest way to check:  Select a photo in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Is it stored within the iPhoto Library? You can tell easily in the Finder's column view.
    As an FYI:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to delete all photos in photo stream on iDevices??

I've been trying to do this for a long time. I looked at similar questions and one answer said to take 1000 photos and put them in photo stream. I tried to put all 1000 photos into photo stream, but the one time that I wanted my photos in photo stream, it didn't work! Are there any other ways to delete all photos in photo stream or just plain delete photo stream?? Please help! Sorry, I'm still relatively new to Apple!

Go to the iCloud website and click on your name and then advanced. Hit the reset photostream. This will delete the photos there.
Go to your devices and remove the photos in the photostream folder in iPhoto.

  • Deleted All Photos !

I am running iPhoto 08 7.1.3 and I have accidently deleted all my photos from iPhoto and from the iphoto trash can, How can I restore my photos and will I lose all my album folders etc.

    David
Is it really so easy to delete all photos by highlighting all photos and pressing the delete key? I know there is a warning when I go to empty the iPhoto trash but frankly I don't think that is enough.
Well David, you get the same warning as every other document on your mac.
I'm curious tho'. How many pics in your iPhoto? Because iPhoto generally won't trash more than 100 at a time, for precisely this reason. For instance, if you were in an Album, putting pics in the trash doesn't delete them at all, just removes them from the Album. To delete from the Library you need to be in the Library view (Either Events or Photos).
What is the iPhoto Library file in my Pictures folder?
That's your Library. It contains all your pics and the database files that track them.
    Regards
    TD

  • Deleting All Photos Saved On IPad From SD Card ?

I like to save photos and videos on my IPad when I'm out and about, using the camera connection kit.
I copy my pictures to my laptop separately (the IPad is just for viewing and backup) when I reach home.
At this point (photos safely stored on laptop, desktop AND backup car), I'd like to delete the photos from my IPad.
How do I do this ? I know I can delete them individually but there are far too many - I need to be able to delete "all imported".
I can't find a way to do this either on the IPad or in iPhoto or iTunes when I connect to my mac.

I believe you can use the Image Capture application on your MacBook Pro to delete the photos on your iPad.  Image Capture is a great program, and very useful for handling photos on the iPad.  I think you can simply select the photos you want to delete and delete them straight away.

  • Delete all photos

I've discovered a major issue/bug with the ability to delete all photos on the iPhone. Not only is it difficult to delete all photos with one tap, it's actually not possible.
When you tap the Photos icon from the desktop (by default), you are taken to your albums where there is a Camera Roll album and an edit button. When you tap the edit button, you enter a mode in which you can delete albums. However, the Camera Roll is persistent and has to stay in place, so you can't delete that and if you delete any of your other albums, the contents doesn't actually leave your phone, it's just not categorized anymore.
There is a second method for deleting photos. By tapping the Settings icon, tap General, tap Usage, wait for it to load everything and you can see Photos & Camera. In Photos & Camera you can see Camera Roll. Swipe left or right on Camera Roll to reveal the delete button. Tap delete and you will notice that the screen goes back to Usage and you loose the ability to get back to Photos & Camera. Also, your photos are NOT deleted.
Yes, there is yet another method for deleting photos. If you use iPhotos to import your photos on a mac, you can choose to delete all imported photos. But here's the thing, I use Drop Box to import photos automatically and sync all my files. I don't want to have duplicates on my machine just to delete photos.
There is no way to delete all photos with one tap on the iPhone until this bug is fixed and I really don't want to use iphotos on my mac to manage the photos just to delete all of them. Who do I report this issue to and is anyone else having the same problem?

By tapping the Settings icon, tap General, tap Usage, wait for it to load everything and you can see Photos & Camera. In Photos & Camera you can see Camera Roll. Swipe left or right on Camera Roll to reveal the delete button. Tap delete and you will notice that the screen goes back to Usage and you loose the ability to get back to Photos & Camera. Also, your photos are NOT deleted.
If you follow these steps, it's clear that they have given the user an option to do what I'm trying to do, except, there's a bug so it's not actually following through with the delete function.
