IPhoto book - Never shipped

How frustrating. I ordered my first printed book from Apple and it supposedly shipped on July 13 to be delivered on July 17. I paid for express shipping. On July 17, I checked the tracking number and the only information was that the order was electronically transmitted to FedEx. I called FedEx and they said a label was printed, but the package was not picked up by FedEx. I called Apple and was told they had no access to the iPhoto book printer so they would send an email and I would have a resolution in 24 hours.
I got an email this morning from the fool who read the complaint. The email response simply stated that the "order shipped July 13, if you don't receive it in two business days, reply to this email". They also suggested I track it with FedEx, which I had done and it was noted in the original complaint. Great resolution! Obviously I hadn't received it by July 17 or I wouldn't have called them. I responded to the email and have not received word back. I called Apple and the representative said, "I'm going to give you a web address to trouble shoot your iPhoto issue". What a moron. I asked to speak to a supervisor. She stated that they had no access to the iPhoto printer and that my response to the email was the only way to contact them. She told me to wait an additional 24 hours to see what happens.
I don't mind waiting an appropriate period of time to have a problem resolved, but when they promise one thing and then fail, it's frustrating. So I guess I'm at their mercy.

  • HT1051 iPhoto book - international shipping issue...

Hi! I have just moved to Singapore from London & have created an iPhoto book that I would like to ship to my Singapore address. However, when I click to purchase the book, it refuses to accept my Singapore postcode.. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you!

With some many posts related to "shipping internationally from iPhoto" you would think Apple would chime in by now.  It really is a major failure on Apple's part that international shipping is not allowed.  Instead you force users to go to SNAPFISH or other 3rd party services - thus taking our money elsewhere.
Its been a problem for YEARS... please fix this Apple.  You can't expect users to open a credit card account in a different country - also its almost impossible to do for most people.

  • HT3412 iPhoto books and Shipping to another address

Can I create a book and have it shipped to somebody else's address overseas if it is a gift?

No.  The shipping address needs to be in the same country as the credit card's billing address.

We are unable to have iPhoto books shipped into Canada because the shipping address field will only accept US zip codes. Any solutions?

Have you set the Print Products Store to Canada in the iPhoto Preferences > Advanced Panel?
    This determines the address format.
And your billing address and shipping address must be in the same country, as defined for your AppleID and credit card.

  • Trying to ship 6 iPhoto books to 6 different addresses in one order.

I'm trying to place an order for 6 copies of my iPhoto book (90 pages) and have them shipped to 6 separate addresses.  Can this be done?  Im trying to avoid creating separate orders because the upload time is long for a 90 page book.
    Can this be done?

No, it can't be done.  All books of one order can be shipped to only one address.

I have made an iPhoto book for my friends in China, detailing the good times we had over the years.

My wife just ordered a photo book from Walgreens.com. It was the first photo book order for our family. I was aware of iPhoto books and have seen samples in an Apple Store and remember they looked nice, so suggested an iPhoto book. We really like ordering our 4x6 photos through Walgreens and picking up locally, and we think they have the best quality prints, so that is why my wife thought just order the photo book from them. I expected good quality also since their prints are so nice.
Bah! We were not pleased at all with the Walgreens photo book. Very cheap construction; ultrathin = low quality; photos are dull and even grainy looking (highest quality 6MP outdoor photos, so it ain't the photos). Walgreens service was amazingly fast ... we ordered about midnight last Thursday and they shipped 2-day on Friday morning, got the book Tuesday evening. (fast printing even during Christmas season.) However, the quality was so poor that we could not give it as a gift (a summer vacation we took with the wife's folks). Soooo, that's why we did the iPhoto book last night (stayed up until 3AM) and basically put the same book together. iPhoto is MUCH, MUCH easier to use than those web based services.
We are not meeting them until the evening of Dec. 25, and then will open gifts the 26th when the rest of the family is together. The book is being shipped to their house Express. I am hoping maybe by now orders have died down and they can get this book out pronto. I even have a glimmer of hope for delivery on the 26th or at least the week of the 26th. If not, no biggie, it'll come when it comes. I like the idea of putting the iPhoto book on iDVD and showing it on a DVD. That will suffice until the actual book comes.
My wife will be contacting Walgreens today to see about a refund for the shoddy book they sent us. I wouldn't get the Walgreens book at any price it was so bad (shipped price was about $6 less than the iPhoto book.)

  • DO NOT BUY AN IPHOTO BOOK!!!!!!!

I have been going at it with Apple now for over a month! I ordered a book and it came back with blank pages and with photos not scaled properly. (This was my second iPhoto book. The first one also had several minor printing flaws which we overlooked) I sent three emails via the iPhoto support page and received no replies. Apple promises a response within 48 hrs. Then some two weeks later they had the nerve to send me a survey thanking me for using the web support function and please rate "how we did!" You can only imagine how I responded. I next tried contacted a live person at Apple Care to help me out. I provided them my order number. They indicated that was not a valid order number. Turns out that Apple Care cannot track orders made through iPhoto! No one at Apple Care was even familiar with what an iPhoto book was. I then called Apple corporate hq's and spoke to a "customer care" rep. She assured me I would be contacted within 48 hrs (sound familiar) and my problem would be resolved. I heard nothing for over a week. Calls back to Ms. Graser of customer care were met by voice mail. Finally this week I received a canned response back from Apple. They noted that they would credit the charge back to my card. They also asked if I were interested in reordering my book and if so they would "assist" me. I replied that I was interested in trying to reorder the book. So what does Apple do? Without any further contact to find out why the book came back incomplete (such as a corrupt file or incomlete file transfer), they reprinted the same screwed up book and recharged my credit card for the full amount (including $15 for express shipping)!
BUYER BEWARE! Apple provides no support or quality control for this product. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Heidi,
Welcome to the forums, and I'm sorry about your book. I too have ordered a book very recently and also found several photos to be on the dark side, and several too red as well.
But I believe that there's a "but" here.
I don't know your professional background -- I work in the print industry (I design pages) and I know how hard it is to get the color correction on images just right, EVEN if your monitor is calibrated and your particular version of image processing software is optimized for use with your specific output device. And that's when a professional is behind the wheel, which I am not.
My iMac's monitor is not calibrated, I am not trained to make images look their best for reproduction, and I am using a consumer-level application. With a little bit of research on these forums (which you have done), anyone can find out that the reviews on the iPhoto books' quality are mixed... At the very least you'll know you're taking a calculated risk -- as you said yourself.
I would consider myself a picky customer, but I am not disappointed with the quality of these books, especially considering the price, and knowing how difficult and unpredictable color correction can be. If you have some photos that are good (even if it is only 25 out of 142), then I would suspect the problem is with the "pre-pressing" of these images, not the printing. If the printing was to blame, they would ALL be bad.
That said, I am still sorry about your negative experience. We anticipate these books to be great, and it's a bummer when they aren't.
Full disclosure: I am in fact asking for a refund as well on my recent book, and I too don't like the fact that there is no phone support for iPhoto orders. I sent my e-mail 24 hours ago, so it hasn't been 48 hours yet. The reason I am asking for a refund is not due to print quality (I think I am responsible for the color/darkness thing), but because my $57 softcover 8.5x11 book arrived in a flimsy envelope and got bent during shipping. The (cheaper) calendars I ordered the same day arrived in sturdy boxes, so the logic behind that escapes me.
Anyway. For the future, if you've got a project you really care about, I'd recommend spending a little extra and ordering a "test book" with the minimum amount of pages, using only your most challenging photos, so you'll know how to tweak them for the final book. If it matters that much, the extra money will be well-spent, and in the end, the price/quality factor of these one-of-a-kind books will still be more than acceptable.
    Just my thoughts.

  • Low budget image proofing for iPhoto book order

    Hello!
I want to prepare my photos the best I can for iPhoto book ordering (Christmas present for family).
I have a Dell U2711 attached to a Mac Mini running OS X 10.6.8 and iPhoto '11 9.2.1. and a Canon Selphy CP520 dye sub printer which I thought to use as a precheck of what my JPG sRGB images would look like when printed in a book.
    Here's my headache:
If I set up the monitor and calibrate the display profile as suggested in post #1 under this thread then such setup makes me color correct the photos by RADICALLY pushing the midtone slider in the levels adjustments to the left (brightening the picture). Prints that come out of the Selphy under this setup are a perfect match to what I see on the monitor and that is wonderful. However, I hesitate to order a book using such images because they appear far too bright on an iMac for example. (Perhaps I should mention that Google logo in Safari looks like its on steroids in this setup).
On the other hand, if I set up the monitor as it came from factory (PC gamma, standard preset), and use the default DELL U2711 display profile in SystemPreferences, then pictures look relatively ok on screen without any radical color correction. But prints that come out of Selphy with this setup don't match what is on the display, prints are too dark, and again I hesitate to order a book with such images.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Mato

Yes - don't try so hard and use your Mac and iPhoto - not a PC
iPhoto is designed as a consumre level program for point and shoot comeras - many people (including me) report excellent results using it that way - load sRGB photos form a digital camera and do minimal processing on them - never do major color adjustments - using iPhoto - preview rthe book -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
    and order
Apples comments on this are here
Of the negative comments posted here nearly all of them were from people who spend lots of time and energy adjusting photos trying to second guess the printing process and failing to do so - Apple does have an unconditional sastisfaction guarentee - do it the simple way - less is more in this case

  • Upload freezes when trying to order an iPhoto book

I've seen that many people have had this problem. I'm trying to order a large (not XL) iPhoto book using my 2012 MacBook Pro. After I click "Buy Book" and enter payment information, the assembly goes well, but it freeezes halfway through the upload every time. I can and have made a pdf of the book following Apple's instructions, and everything worked just fine with that. In other forums, the suggestion is to reboot the computer in safe mode. Is this suggestion only for people who couldn't create a pdf of the book? How will this help with the upload?

ErinWyoming, I'm sharing your pain. I've ordered 3 calendars in the past with no problem. Even using this computer and the same network. Currently on a MacBook Air running OSX 10.8.5.
But this order is driving me nuts. I can create the PDF and it assembles with no problem, but gets to either one of 2 points in the upload and basically freezes iPhoto (so freezes quite early on in the upload, or around half way through). I can't cancel the order, or otherwise use iPhoto and the only way to escape is to Force Quit iPhoto.
I've tried ordering in safe mode, I've tried deleting the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file as instructed elsewhere. I've tried different Apple ID's and different addresses. I've adjusted my energy settings so that the display and computer never go to sleep and my hard disk won't go to sleep. I've tried uploading at different times of the day. I've left it running overnight (just in case I'm not being patient enough). Alas, no order goes through.
I'm not sure what else to try. I'm getting to the end of my tether!! Anyone else got some suggestions?! I'm thinking (God forbid), of constructing the calendar elsewhere at this point .... I'm OVER it!!!!

  • Unable to order iphoto books :(

    Hi,
I've never had trouble ordering iphoto books before.  In fact, I order one every year on our anniversary.  This year, I have tried to order our iphoto book 5 times and each time it makes it to the uploading page and then freezes.  I have to hardboot my computer in order to exit out of iphoto.  Does anyone know if this is a software glitch or if there is a setting I need to change?  I love ordering iphoto books and feel very discouraged
    Thank you, Jenny

Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If it is correct boot into safe mode and preview again (note that safe mode disables some fonts) and then order while in safe mode

Just got off the phone with apple support.  If the photo book completes the assembly process but fails during the upload process the problem is in their overloaded servers. They just started a free shipping promotion for the holidays which has increased the traffic dramatically. I bought a calendar a week ago and it went right through. I'm going to try again during less peak times.

  • Page won't load in iPhoto book slideshow or when viewing pdf of book

I've been working on an iPhoto book for several weeks now. It's 97 pages long with lots of photos. Each time I try to view the slideshow, the same page (near the end of the book) never loads comepletely. All other pages work fine, including pages before and after the messed up one.
In the slideshow, all I can see is the theme background I've selected, one out of the seven photos that are supposed to be on the page, and a curved arrow icon in grey in the center of the page. (No idea what that is or why it's there).
I just created a pdf of the book, and the same page only shows up as a white page, with what looks like part of a window opened in the bottom corner.
I'm using iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2. I've attached a picture of the messed up pdf page:
