Iphoto cant find my pictures

I am using iPhoto 08. Went to it and all my pictures were missing. All the albums were listed on the sidebar but they were empty.
I went to the library and imported everything. Now the albums are empty and I have all the pictures in the 'album' called Last 12 months.
In addition to all the pictures I have a lot of things I never saved. They are numbers, icons, curves, etc.
What is happening and can I just trash these strange pictures or are they being used by the computer as icons etc.

duggg:
By importing the contents of the iPhoto Library package back into the library you've duplicated many of the files in there and did not resurrect the library as it should have been resurrected.
Do you have a backup copy of the library? If not you're going to have to start over with a new library and import only the large image files from the old library. Here's how you'll have to do it.
1 - move the old library to the desktop, open it and move the Originals folder to the desktop.
2 - open the Originals folder and do a search with the following criteria:
File type = image
Size is less than 100 KB
3 - in the search results window you'll see all of the small icon files that were imported as normal files. Select them all and move to the Trash bin in the dock.
4 - launch iPhoto and create a new library.
5 - drag the cleaned out Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will give you a new library with somewhat the same events of your old library.
To prevent similar losses in the future be sure to keep current backups of the entire iPhoto library package and see the tip at the end of my signature.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I was importing photos to iphoto and somehow lost access to my iTunes library. when i open iPhoto, it asks me to select a library, but there are no photo libraries present for me to select. I cant find my pictures and have no access to my iPhoto.

somehow lost access to my iTunes library.
What does iTunes have to do with this?   Also more specific information might be helpful.
What system and iPhoto versions are you running?
Where are you being asked to select a library?  What kind of library, iPhoto or iTunes?
What do you see when you first launch iPhoto?

  • Cant find the pictures I imported from my digital camera using iphoto

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro and imported part of some photos from my digital camera using Iphoto. When it prompted me whether the photos should be deleted from the camera, I chose 'yes'. It deleted the pictures from the camera, but I cant find them anywhere on iphotos. I have tried searching for the pics on my mac using the 'finder', but had no luck.
I repeated the same thing.. took some more pictures and tried to import part of them and then delete the same pics from the camera. Iphotos did the same thing..
I usually import all (and not part) of the pictures from my camera and then use the same option to delete the pictures from the camera after importing them to iphotos. This has always worked.
    Please help. Thanks,
    Kanchan

In the Event mode make sure the sort order is By Date ➙ Descending.  That will put the newer Events at the top of the window.  Check there to see if they are there or not.
The safest method to get photos from a camera to the library is to upload them to a folder on the Desktop first.  That makes sure they are safely on the hard drive.  From there you can import the folder into the library and when you've confirmed they are in the library you can delete the folder from the Desktop and have the camera reformat the memory card.

  • IPhoto cant find a device to burn message

I am getting an error message saying saying that iPhoto can not find a device to burn, when I try select share and then burn from the menu. How can I get iPhoto to "see" a device so I can burn pictures again?
    Thanks,
    Robin

    *Use a Finder window instead.*
    Burning a CD or DVD
*The Finder* can burn files to a CD or DVD. You can then use that disc as a backup, send it to friends, or copy those files to another computer. Mac OS X burns discs that can also be used on Windows computers and other types of computers. The disc uses an HFS Plus/ISO 9660 hybrid format with these file systems: HFS+, ISO-9660 with Rock Ridge, and Joliet with Rock Ridge.
After you drag items to the disc, the Finder places aliases to them in the disc’s window. When you burn the disc, the original files that the aliases point to are burned to the disc. In addition, if any folder in the burn folder contains aliases, the original files for those aliases are burned to the disc as well.
To burn a disc, you need an optical drive in your computer or connected directly to your computer. You can’t burn a disc using a remote optical drive.
To burn a CD or DVD:
Insert a blank disc into the optical drive.
If you see a dialog, you can choose an action from the pop-up menu and select “Make this action the default” if you want the same thing to happen every time you insert a blank disc.
The disc appears on your desktop.
Double-click the disc to open it, and drag the files and folders you want on it to its window.
The Finder places aliases to the files in the disc’s window. The original files are not moved or deleted.
    Arrange and rename the files.
When burning the disc, the Finder gives the items on the disc the same names and locations as the aliases in the disc window. After the disc is burned, you cannot change them.
Choose File > Burn Disc, and follow the instructions.
The files that the aliases point to are burned to the disc. In addition, if any folder you copied contains aliases, the original files for those aliases are burned to the disc as well.
If the Finder can’t find the original file for an alias, it asks whether to cancel burning or to continue without that item. If you cancel, the disc remains empty.
If you eject the disc without burning it, the Finder creates a burn folder with the items you copied to the disc, and places that folder on your desktop.
To burn a disc that appears in the sidebar, click the burn icon that appears next to it. You can also hold down the Control key as you click any disc and choose Burn Disc from the shortcut menu.
If you need more help, click Help from the Finder Menu Bar.

  • IPhoto cannot find older pictures in hi res

After recent update(s) iPhoto '11 cannot find older photos in hi res. The thumbnails are still there but the original photos are not. At least not visible for iPhoto. Where do I find them? It doesn't help trying to use other libraries. Finder shows two identical iPhoto Libraries but none of them contain hi res pictures.

That seems to suggest the possibility that the iPhoto preferences were set to run as a "referenced" library during that time?
If you have the names of some of them you can try searching for them using  Find Any File.  FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't, like in packages, invisible folder, etc.
Run a search on your boot drive first.  If no full sized photos with that name are found change the searched drive to your Time Machine drive and try again.  This search will much longer than on your boot drive do to the TM organization.
This can tell you if there's any copy of that photo in your TM.  If not there's nothing you can do. .

  • CHANGED FOLDER NAME IN FINDER- NOW IPHOTO CANT FIND FILE

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The point of iPhoto is that you do all your work in the iPhoto Window. It does the work in the background.
Then if you need the files to upload somewhere or for some other reason:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards

  • HT201317 i lost my iphone and cant track it the battery died and it got a passcode on it.. so no one can find who it belongs to... I cant find my pictures on icloud.. why?

I lost my phone at the casinos.. I cant track it down it says its in ac.   so I locked it .. and Im wondering how I can get my photos... i went in icloud and it is not showing me the photo option...

    You're welcome.
Voicemail is left at your carrier's server. That will continue to work unless you report your iPhone as lost or stolen with your carrier.
You may never find it again and you can't if the iPhone remains offline or out of service which means the iPhone is powered off or doesn't have cellular reception.

  • HT4906 iphoto cant find photo

    Hi there....
Running Mountain lion on a week old 27inch imac.
Started to photostream some picture that migrated over from my old mac, first few albums I streamed to people work great.
However, now when I go to select some pics from a trip to the US back in 2010 when i select the pics i want, and then hit share it comes up with: -
The photo “IMG_xxxxxx” could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found.
But I'm not trying to upload any photos that it names.
Someone please help as this mac is going out the window and I'll stick to my 7yr old imac on Snow Lepoard that never casued me any hassle.....it just worked!

Yes it is from my old mac, I used Migration which frankly is a disaster.  I have several duplicates of photos - events split, extras ones added.  Photos merged from Albums to others etc
Its going to take hours to sort!
    Any help/advice would be great.
    Thanks Toad

  • I can't find my pictures on iCloud.  Have I lost everything?

I had the settings on my iphone to automatically backup to iCloud my camera roll, accounts, documents, etc. My iPhone's touchscreen went out and was unable to be fixed.  I cant find my pictures on iCloud.  Have I lost everything?

Pictures are not saved to iCloud, they can be synced to PhotoStream.
PhotoStream is accessible from other iDevices and the AppleTV.
If the device had been used as desigend, pictures taken with the device would have been regularly copied off the device to a computer.
