IPhoto DVD locked

I have an iPhoto library on DVD which I want to open to view photos. I have clicked on DVD icon on Desktop, clicked on the iPhoto Library icon in it and have received message that it is locked. I have created a new library which was suggested in one message that appeared while trying to open the DVD. However, when I selected the library, a message appeared again that the DVD was locked.
What are the procedures that are needed to open the iPhoto Library on the DVD in order to view the photos?
Thanks for your help.
Vernon

If you created the DVD the way described then it would not show up in iPhoto. p
Try the following:
1 - drag the library again from the DVD to the Desktop.
2 - download and run BatChmod on the library with the settings in this screenshot:
3 - launch iPhoto with the option key depressed, select the library on the Desktop and open it.
If iPhoto converts the library and you still get blank windows when double clicking on thumbnails backup the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select last three options.
Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto not showing a iPhoto DVD

I just made a iPhoto DVD which mounts OK, but is not seen in the "Shared" list.  I have an external CD/DVD R/W since the internal is not working.  When I tried to eject the DVD the message said it was "in Use by iPhoto."  When I tried this DVD in my iMac 20" it showed but indicated "no items" however, if I examine it in the Finder, all the content is present.
Somewhat dissapointed since I have just converted 1215 photos from film to digital and used iPhoto to develop into events over 10 years.  This really looks great on my iMac, but want to share with children, one has a MacBook Pro and the other a Windows PC.  This latter DVD worked as it should for the Windows PC as single photo file of 1215 photos.

More information: from the Help file for iPhoto:
View photo libraries on a CD or DVD
If you’ve burned an entire iPhoto library to a CD or DVD (using the iPhoto burn function), you can view the library in iPhoto without importing all the photos. You can’t make changes to a photo library you’re viewing on a disc, but you can import (copy) photos and albums from it into the current iPhoto library.
    Hide
To view a photo library on a CD or DVD:
Insert the CD or DVD into your computer’s disc drive. An icon for the disc appears in the Source list.
Click the disc’s icon in the Source list to show the photo library or libraries it contains.
The DVD never shows in the Source List!
The solution to this problem is to copy the iPhoto Library file to the User> Pictures folder and restart iPhoto with the Option key pressed, then select this iPhoto Library and click Open.
Again, it is a disapointment that nobody has replied to my first post above.  At least correct the Help file or tell me where I have gone wrong?

  • Gallery Export.iPhoto Exporter locks export on iphoto plugin locks out export in iphoto 9.43

i cannot export on iphoto, everytime i do, a plugin called Gallery Export.iPhoto Exporter locks it. It presents a register splash screen that only offers a register option. if i cancel it cancals all export options - if i register it says i have no internet! Im totally baffled! It never allows we to choose any other export options. When I looked for the programme on my mac i could find no sign of it anywhere. I looked in the plugins folder for iphoto and no sign. I tried copying a version from my other mac into the said folder but no change. Can anyone help? I have never used this plugin and only want to get back file export!

Sounds like you've got a 3rd party Exporter there of some kind that needs to be removed or paid for.
In the Export dialogue, how many options do you have in the place indicated?

  • How did my iPhoto get locked

How did my iPhoto get locked.  I attached a photo to a yahoo email.  Is yahoo involved (as usual)

I'll guess at what you're on about:
    Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
    If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?

  • My iPhoto has locked up

I loaded all the photos from my iPhone last night.  I was able to share them on my Apple TV.  I closed out of it and when I tried to get back in, it just spins.  I have forced it closed multiple times, but it does the same when I open it.  I am pretty new to Macs, so I don't know how to work with this.

My macbook is 10.7.5 My iphoto is on my Time Machine.
I was syncing my iphone 3gs to my macbook via usb and was downloading a video from my iphone to iphoto. My entire macbook froze so i held the power button down and restarted the macbook, unplugged the usb and opened iphoto again from my time machine.
Now it says my iphoto is locked, on a locked disk or I don't have permission to open it.
When I go to the iphoto on my time machine, right click and select get info, the lock box is not checked.
I restarted my macbook twice and its still the same thing.
I just accessed my iphoto a few days ago and I am fairly sure that it is up to date..
What do I need to do?
    Thanks in advance! Vern

Try tapping the "esc" key on your keyboard and see if that helps.
Try pressing command + Q on the keyboard to see if iPhoto will quit.

  • IPhoto keeps locking up and will not allow merge of events

iPhoto keeps locking up when I try to minimize events.
It will not let me merge events either.

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance.

  • Non-accessible iPhoto DVD

As a backup measure, I burned a DVD from the iPhoto Library on my aging MacBook. Yet, none of my drives allow me to open the file (group of files?) on my Mac mini. The message states that the file is locked and to return when it isn't any more, or to chose another library. This is where I'm stuck: I'd like to access the images on the DVD and transfer them selectively in order to make a book of my late and lamentably departed cats. I'd appreciate any help or pointer.

You need to drag it from the DVD to a hard drive. A backup iPhoto library on DVD is exactly that: a backup. Until copied from the backup drive, it can't be opened in iPhoto or changed.

  • IPhoto Library locked in Yosemite; You do not have permission to open the document "iPhoto Library"

Long story to get to the iPhoto part but may help someone who is in-the-know about what can be done for me...
I turned on my computer a few weeks ago (iMac 27" late 2012, 2.9GHz Intel core i5) to access some photos in iPhoto and it would not load to the home screen but gave me the Disc Utilities Menu. From memory the options I had were; (1) Restore from Time Machine Back-up, (2) Re-install OSX, (3) Get online Help, (4) Repair or Erase using Disc Utility.
I tried Repair in option 4... no success.
I tried option 1 as I have my internal HDD backed up to an external HDD via Time Machine in case anything goes wrong... no success.
I tried option 2 (which was Mavericks) and it loaded and took me to my desktop.
When I tried to opened the iPhoto app in the dock there were no photos in it.
After searching forums and the internet they suggested it may have been an iPhoto upgrade issue so I tried to update iPhoto but found it was already up-to-date.
After looking, I found that the "iPhoto Library" in "Pictures" had a red circle with the white dash through it and was locked. When the "iPhoto Library" folder was double clicked I got the message "You do not have permission to open the document “iPhoto Library”.
In all the trouble I have upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3 (with Photos 1.0) and am obviously still having the same warning/error message come up when the iPhoto Library folder is clicked.
Right click won't allow me to view package contents.
The "Import" function in the "Photos" app won't do anything with the folder, and the "iPhoto Library" folder looks and functions the same in all of the back-ups on my external HDD Time Machine.
I don't care if I need to use "Photos" or "iPhoto" but I do need to get the photos out because they are irreplaceable. If had know this problem was possible (especially while using Time Machine) I would have manually stored and backed my photos up in folders on another external HDD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, feel free to ask any additional Questions (but this is the first time I have posted in the forum so hopefully I can work out what is going on if you do reply to this post )
    Cheers.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had tried this earlier with no success either. Even with the padlock unlocked I can't even change the tab that says "OPEN WITH". I still get the... "You do not have permission to open the document “iPhoto Library” message. You may also it continues to say "Fetching" where it should say my user name at the bottom.

  • IPhoto library locked on failing external drive

I have my iPhoto library on an external hard drive which I also used as a time machine/backup. I did this to save space on my much older macbook, and when I purchased a new macbook it would have taken months for the full iPhoto library to be moved to the new computer, so I left it on my external drive. Unfortunately, that external hard drive has started to fail. I ran the disk utility repair to try and fix the external drive, and I was able to retrieve everything off of the external drive except for my pictures, which are locked in that darned iPhoto library. I have not yet found a way to retrieve or move the pictures or the entire iPhoto library from the failing drive. My MacBook Pro is AOK, my iPhoto is fine- and I think the library would have been fine as well if not for the external drive failing. It hasn't completely crashed, and I'm afraid to do much more to it. I can still hack into the in the disk utility to see the files it's holding hostage. I desperately need to get the pictures back though. Is there any way to rescue my precious pictures? Please help!

Bear in mind that Time Machine will apply ACL's (extended permissions) to the backup disk so it may be completely normal to be unable to access files on that disk. If you are trying to use an iPhoto library inside the backups folder it may not work at all - it must be copied off to another disk to use with iPhoto.
With that said, if the disk is failing or damaged it may not mount in Finder - is that what is happening here?
It is also possible that the failure is the 'external case' and not the actual disk, if the controller is not working the disk may not mount - sometimes you can get a disk to work by using a different external case or a USB toaster
You will need to consider data recovery if the disk is on it's last legs or is corrupted. Frankly this is complex & you should send it to data recovery professionals if you are inexperienced - it is the best way to stand any chance of recovering data on a failing drive, but it is costly. You are also correct to se the disk as little as possible - if the damage is a mechanical issue reading the disk can cause the disk to fail quicker.
If you are intent on doing data recovery yourself you must get another disk that is larger than the disk you need to repair. Then you can use tools like Disk Warrior or or Disk Drill to repair the disk or recover the files.
Provide more info about where the library is & the state of the disk, you may not need to do recovery.

  • Upgraded and now my iPhoto is locked and External HD does not appear to be working

I was hoping someone could help with this issue.  I recently updated to Yosemite.  Today I tried to log onto IPhoto, (which all pictures save directly into an external hard drive) .  When I attempted to access IPhoto, it gets an error message, "The iPhoto Library is locked. Reopen iPhoto when you have read/write access, or reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library."
I then tried the hold down option key which didn't work.  I also downloaded iPhoto Manager and rebuilt the library.  I still can't access iPhoto from my dock app.  It has the same issue.  I also attempted to repair permissions which also didn't work.
I am not really tech savvy but can get by but I have no clue whats going on.
Now I noticed I can not drag anything to my external hard drive.  It is grayed out.  When I checked on disk utility to try a repair, the icon for External is also grayed out.
Oh, and this fool never backed up anything with Time Machine.  =)
Also, I recently got an iPhone with the cloud, I hope this isn't the problem and this is strictly an issue with Yosemite.
Can someone please give me advice

    Try the following:
In Finder, select the problematic volume and then press command-I.
Expand the Sharing & permissions section if it's collapsed.
If the section is locked, then unlock it by pressing the padlock button and then authenticating as directed.
Tick/check Ignore ownership on this volume.
