IPhoto to full.

Is it possible to have 2 iphotos library on which I could work on alternatively? One could be on the computor and the other on an exteranl disc and I could switch easily between the 2 when I please.  If so how can I do that? I have 30 000 photos and it seems that it is a bit to much for IPhoto. Is this a good way to go about it?
Thank you for any advice.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
do you get a message when you open iPhoto?
what fixes have you tried?
where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Lots of hang ups when using iPhoto in full screen mode

Has anyone else got this problem or a solution? I find that iPhoto hangs up or give strange action when in ful screen mode. The other day, for example, I had two iPhoto windows showing, one in full screen and one normal window on the desk top! Another day the system became unresposive and I had to force quit iPhoto to get it back. Another day I had to re-boot the machine entirely. All other full screen apps work fine.
I am on MacBook black, 2GB memory. OS X Lion fully updated.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Iphoto showing full screen photos on opening

I installed the latest version of iphoto onto a new ipad and it worked initially but all I can see when i open the app is full screen photos - no menus.  Any suggestions?

  • IPhoto cache full of PDD files?

I'm trying to clean up my harddisc to make more available space and to help iPhoto run faster. My iPhoto cache is full of photoshop files, a ton of them, all 4KB. Should I empty it?? I don't really understand why there are PDD files in there...

That's odd. I don't have them in my iPhoto 6 library folder. Nor do they appear in lori_diloreto's diagram of an iPhoto 5 library folder: http://homepage.mac.com/loridilo/.Public/finder.jpg
If iPhoto is running slowly, perhaps it would help to run a database rebuild. Hold Option and Command while launching iPhoto. Select all 4 options in the dialog box, and leave it to run. For more info, read: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107947
If you're feeling brave you could move those .pdd files to your desktop. Then launch iPhoto and see what happens. If it's bad, close iPhoto and put them back.
Otherwise, heed PhillyPhan's PS and don't use the Finder to remove anything. It can lead to "bleeding ulcers."

  • Can I see a movie in iPhoto NOT full screen?

I have the latest iPhoto and Lion.  When I click a movie in iPhoto, it automatically blows it up to ful screen!  It didn't used to do this (I don't think so, anyway.)  The movie would play whatever size it was.  Is there a preference or setting so the same happens now?  That is, iPhoto doesn't decide for me that the movie should be full screen?
    Thanks,
    Larry

COOL!   Now THAT'S a better idea than mine!!

  • IPhoto thumbnails full of digital artifacting after Rebuild

    Hi,
I rebuilt "all of the photo's thumbnails" in iPhoto and now the thumbnails look terrible! The photos themselves are fine when enlarged.
Should I try rebuilding again to correct this?
    I am using iPhoto 9 version 8.1.2 (424)
    Thanks,
    kevin

Well, I tried that and many (not all) of the thumbnails still look like an 80's video game. Why did I do this in the first place?
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    kevin

  • IPhoto went full screen, took over entirely and wouldn't forcequit

I pressed the play button (F8) on my mac book pro yesterday. Iphoto began playing a fullscreen slideshow that I was not able to stop by any means. I hit the key for force quit and it appeared on the screen but was not able to be clicked. I pressed the power button for 5 seconds then for the first time ever on macbook pro that was so expensive... Any suggestion? Are there people switching back to snow leopard, which is less iPaddy?

I meant. Are there people switching back to snow leopard, which is more stable and less iPaddy than this Lion? I am not liking Lion.. It does not really look like an actual improvement of snow leopard.

  • Help! IPhoto is full of duplicates!

Not much more to say. I imported from two old machines, I had the bug where the new machine created an old account and then couldn't import properly and created an extra account, I had to transfer everything back to this account, etc.
In the process, I've ended up with too many duplicates to go through. When I started iPhoto, I asked it *not* to import duplicates, but it still did. I'm not done either. I have a few more photo folders to import and I will get many more duplicates from that.
So how do I find and delete all these duplicates?
Is it possible to export everything from iPhoto, run DupeGuru, empty iPhoto, and then import everything back into iPhoto?

    "Start over"
So how am I supposed to "Start Over"? My picture files are in iPhoto! And why does iPhoto automatically break itself by automatically doing what it must NEVER do?
"You open (and covert as needed) libraries"
So ... no I just open iPhoto and do what it suggests to start iPhoto, like most other users. I can't open libraries.
"You can export and reimport - but you lose a lot of information and all edit trails as well as all organization and projects"
I lost all organization and projects when iPhoto fouled up the import. How do I get that back?
I need to get rid of the duplicates, organize the files again, and rename some files again. I need to figure out which files iPhoto did and didn't import, figure out which ones iPhoto has that the rest of the pictures folders don't have, and figure out how to fix that. How do I do any of that?

  • OS X LION Issues with Full-Screen; iPhoto, Image Capture & Mail

    Hello,
I'm experiencing un-Apple-like issues (bugs) with Lion in Full-Screen mode.
For example - iPhoto doesn't seem to like Full-Screen mode. If iPhoto is open and I connect a camera, for which I prefer Image Capture to retrieve my pics... Image Capture opens 'behind' the full-screen iPhoto, but I can't get to it. Image Capture shows as open on the menu bar in iPhoto's full-screen mode. If I go to the desktop (where it should be opening) Image Capture isn't 'on top' and clicking it takes me back to iPhoto full-screen
Similarly, if I get mail and return to the desktop (the only way to see the dock) and I click on the 'Mail' app icon - I am catapulted into Image Capture... or iPhoto. Returning to the Desktop to click the Mail icon from the dock... takes me to Image Capture... or iPhoto. The 3rd try takes me to the Mail.app which is usually always open and in full-screen mode.
While I'm complaining about bugs, I'd like to mention that I am fully dismayed by the loss of control in full-screen mode when using apps such as Mail or iPhoto. The Mail app opens an email to edit (such as a reply) but you can't access any other mail docs to 'cut and paste' info from. I can only click SEND or CANCEL.
What if I don't want to CANCEL? I just want to go to another email and cut a piece to paste.. I have to exit full-screen mode which allows me to open two email documents at once, then cut and paste. Essentially Mail in Full-Screen is only a reader... not a work area. I can only access the document I have open, since it greys out the Message Viewer. You can't click on the message viewer nor access any of the features of Mail.app. You can only write your email and either Cancel or Send. Where is the 'hold on a second while I go cut and paste'? I don't want to cancel.
Can't seem to use Safari since I'm constantly three-finger swiping it away. My cursor hovers over a text field and suddenly it's zooming in and locks text input. I have to iPhone-like swipe to expand to exit this inadvertent partial (very slight) zoom. Sometimes the zoom is so partial that I can't figure out what's going on until I just exit full-screen mode, close the window and start over.
Seems like I'm starting over and over and over... just to do simple things. Inadvertent zooming, inadvertent 3-finger returning to Desktop, inadvertent changing apps... ugh.
I'm willing to let go of the old and embrace the new future but so far it's been pretty uncomfortable for me to constantly monitor my overly sensitive trackpad gesturing combined with constant bugs and glitches. I'll save complaining about iPhoto's over-simplification (apparently for dummies) like the new Edit menu, Export menu, etc.. since it's more iLife than Lion related. Rate Lion: 2 out of 5 stars for ease of use & features complicated by unrefined software issues.

I've tried follwoing these instructions but I have an issue with
    # Create snort user. The intention is to let user snort have access only to the snort database.
    $ sudo createuser -U _postgres -P snort
    Password:
    Enter password for new role:
    Enter it again:
Shall the new role be a superuser? (y/n) n
Shall the new role be allowed to create databases? (y/n) n
Shall the new role be allowed to create more new roles? (y/n) n
It keeps telling me "could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server: No such file or directory"
I'm running OSX Mountain Lion, and have verified using serveradmin status postgres that it is up and running.

  • Full iPhoto....cannot export to external device

My iPhoto is full!!!  I have 11,000 pics and vids in there and I am attempting to export to an external device. (WD My Book)  I selected all photos, clicked export, selected device and the error message I keep getting is 'cannot create volume/....'  Please help if you can....
We have 15 month old triplets and a 2 month old and we take 100 pics every other day.  Can't live without it....

Exporting is not the best way
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
And if you want a library on your WD My Book and on your external drive iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  will be very helpful

  • Can I view full metadata in iPhoto?

In iPhoto, when I display metadata (using "Show Photo Info"), the info displayed is only a small portion of complete metadata embedded in photos. I know the full metadata is being imported with the photos into iPhoto because I am able to view full metadata from photos exported from iPhoto and uploaded to FLICKR, or opened in Nikon ViewNX, etc.
I am using iPhoto '08. Do later versions of iPhoto display full metadata?
Thank you in advance for any help on this.

Try using EXIF Viewer.  You can drag the photo from the iPhoto open window onto the EXIF Viewer icon in the Dock and you'll get this window:
The screenshot is for a simple Canon so the flash info is basic.  If you camera offers more flash info it might be readable.  Give it a try.  You can download it from  Toad's Cellar.

  • IPhoto misbehaving in Full Screen mode?

Anyone having trouble with iPhoto dropping out of Full Screen mode? It keeps happening to me. I set up iPhoto in full screen mode and the next thing I know, it's in some sort of middle ground where it occupies the full screen but with a bunch of other apps.
    Solutions?

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

  • Problem viewing selected iPhoto video event full screen in iMovie.

How do I view selected iPhoto video full screen as an event in iMovie?  It always plays the last import instead.  I did follow the instructions, but that does not work.

    Adrian...
I'm having the same problem!!!!  Mine use to sort from new to old and it changed for some reason?
I spoke to apple care and they said it mimics the iphoto order... but it doesn't... I've tried everything, including reversing assending and decending in iphoto.
Like you said, it seems trivial... but it is a pain to scroll to the bottom for everything!
    Someone help us
    Thanks.
