Iphoto will not close or let me shut down computer.  Now it's frozen and can't even view photos.  Thanks.

I don't know how this started, but I'm unable to shut down my computer because I get message saying my photos are being synced with online... which they aren't.  Now iphoto is frozen.  Can't shut down computer or view photos.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
I have a MacBook Pro bought about 18 mos ago.

Force restart your computer, back up your iPhoto library, depress the option an command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild the library

  • I tried to set up a remote desktop between my macmini and my work computer.  I hit cancel and now the Remote Desktop will not close.  I cannot shut down my computer either.  How do you close a non-responsive application.  I have tried everything!

I tried to set up a remote desktop connection between my MacMini and my work computer.  It was not working so I hit cancel, but then the big black screen of death came up and will not go a way.  I cannot close my computer nor quit the remote desktop connection.  How do you close a non-responsive application?  By the way, I am new to Mac and it is not as simple as hitting the Control, Alt, Delete.  Please help.

Try ( alt + cmd + esc ).  Gives you a menu of running applications, and a chance to "Force Quit".

  • HT4710 iphoto will not close down when i click on the red X button

iphoto will not close down when i click on the red X button

Right (Command) click on the iPhoto icon in the Dock and see if you can select Quit there or if you get an iPhoto not responding message.  If you do get that message you'll have to the the  ➙ Force Quit... menu option then figure out why iPhoto is stalled.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee

  • MacBook will not log out, restart, or shut down

I know there have been tons of posts on this topic but I still do not know how to fix this. My MacBook has never had any trouble shutting down, restarting, or logging out before and now all of a sudden it will not do any of these three things. I have not installed anything new in quite some time. Whenever I try to shut down it says that Finder will not quit and to quit the application, I do this and the Mac just sits there at the desktop without the dock and the hard drive symbol. Is there any solution to this problem?

I'm very new to the Mac World so I don't know what you mean!
I did read to repair the permissions and this is what I got when I did that about 2 minutes ago:
Permissions differ on "private/var/log/secure.log", should be -rw------- , they are -rw-r----- .
    Permissions differ on "System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.usbmuxd.plist", should be -rw-r--r-- , they are -rwxr-xr-x .
Group differs on "private/etc/cups", should be 0, group is 26.

  • Macbook pro will not wake from sleep without shut down?

My macbook pro 2007 will not wake from sleep without holding down start button and then restarting? Is this a serious problem?

You can Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
You can run the Disk Utility> Repair Disk from Recovery ( command R on start)
if that does not sort it I would reinstall OS X

  • Cannot close Firefox. Cannot shut down computer because Firefox is running.

Nothing is active on this page. Cannot click on anything. Cannot quit program.

    '''UPDATE: Saturday 16 May 2015
Same problems as below now exist on THREE machines -- one Windows 7 64bit desktop, and two laptops Windows 7 64bit, all Win 7 SP1, updated with latest MS Updates.'''
'''Updated to Firefox 38.0.1 Windows 7 64bit...previous version of FF was working fine and was meticulously crafted by experienced tech user.
'''Now, we have two major troubles immediately happened with update to 38.0.1:'''
    1. Will NOT close Firefox (have to use Task manager). Nothing we do within FF closes it
    2. Firefox will NOT open New Private Window, only after we located a New Private Window toolbar icon will item #2 work.'''
Again, this is the fifth straight time after Updating FF that it suddenly creates new and not-seen-before problems.
'''This is NOT due to Add-Ons, it's not due to Plug-In's... it's due to a sudden new problem(s) introduced by the Updated FF 38.0.1, now on three different machines.'''
Starting FF in Safe Mode is tacitly useless and time-consuming, and proves nothing, allows nothing to be checked or changed, the problems remain.
When having to use Task Manager to close FF 38.0.1, restarting FF again calls in the Crashed Session Manager and we have to recover from what FF insists is a crashed session.
Why oh why are these new problems suddenly introduced each time we users update ?
'''Now what's been changed or altered, all without our knowledge, and not mention in ANY of the new FF notes, etc.'''
'''EVERY time we update''', it's essentially introducing inferior performance and problems in an otherwise finely tuned previously working FF.

  • My macbook pro is hung on "checking for new software" and won't close or let me shut down. How do I shut it down safely? Thanks

I have tried shutting down from the apple...I have tried shutting down by trying to close the software update window (which won't let me close)...and have tried shutting down with just using the button. But the software blocks me from shutting down.

Hold down the option-command-esc keys and Force Quit Software update.

  • FF 15.0 on Windows 7 (64 bit) PC opens in Safe Mode but will NOT open after letting FF do reset procedure; now "stuck" in loop.

    1) FF 15.0.0.4619 on Windows PC 64 bit machine. No themes; about a dozen fairly standard plug-ins; a few extensions - fairly vanilla setup. Been having occassional problem this past week in viewing web PDFs.
Crash occurred after some program (adobe ??) wanted to do routine update.
    2) Upon clicking FF icon pop up indicates "problem and unexpected crash" but clicking details button does NOT provide any info. Clicking on Restart FF button offers me option to Start in Safe Mode or Quit FF.
    3) Starts in Safe Mode and first time I did that FF reported Java as being disabled and NOT upto date. Did Java update/install (Java Platform SE 7 U7 10.7.2). FF still will not start except in Safe Mode.
    4) Re-booted computer ... Clicking FF icon brings up pop up with problem and crash sentence but no details. Following screen offers Reset to Default option, and upon clicking Reset it takes me back to the same pop up - so I am stuck in a loop that seems to accomplish nothing. Using Reset upon entering Sage Mode results in same loop.
I really hate using IE so appreciate any assistance in getting back to beloved FF.

  • Volume Level Will Not Save When Restarting or Shutting Down iMac

I have a 24" iMac with 10.4.9 and all available updates as of April 5. When I restart my iMac the volume level will not save so when I reboot into OS X it is at 50% which is inconvenient for me since I have my speakers at full so all I would have to do is use my Mac's volume to turn it up. I never had this problem with my G4 Mac Mini. I know I could just create an Automator action, but the system should save the volume automatically, shouldn't it?
    Thanks!

I have had this problem since the day I got my machine in february last year. At every new boot it's not full (as i like it) but only up half way.
I don't know why it doesn't stick, but I've lived with it for over a year so I kinda forgot about it.
OS X ignoring the setting whether or not to dim the display after a few minutes is another of those minor peeves that have been around for over a year.

  • Good day all, I am new to Mac. Just at a time when I am in the middle of something, my Mac will just prompt me to shut down and restart again. The computer will just freeze, and will not respond unless it is shut down and restarted. Is that how it works

    Good day all,
I am new to Mac. Just want to find out if your Macs always prompt you to shut down and restart. Mine happens very often sometimes, and it can be very embarrassing, especially just when you think you are almost done with what you are doing, only for you start all over again. Or, is there anything I am doing wrong, somebody please help, Thanks.
    Francis.

    Hi Francis,
