IPlanet 5.1 sp 1 hung

Hi,
I've read some posting regarding how iDS 5.1 hung. Some of the cause will be "backup" task.
I'm experiencing the same hung process (the ldapsearch doesn't return anything, just stay like that). I tried to redo the "backup binary and ldif", but it doesn't make the instance hung.
I think the connection is being made, but never been served.
Here some example of access log :

There are a bunch of open connection and never closed, until I killed the process (kill -9) and restarted the instance (Took sometimes to restart, in errors file I see the DS try to gather up the database from inorder shutdown. I believe that because of my kill -9)
If some1 can help where I start to investigate ? Is this a patch issue ? according to the owner this instance never hung before for a long time (1+ years). Can "B1" cause memory leak ?
thanks in advance,
joey

Hi Wajih,
thanks for the reply. Yeah, I suspect the culprit would be "bug". It the box owner doesn't want to apply patches without proof... well, finding proof for "bug" and recreate the situation is nightmare... ^_^
I believe the situation is not entirely, iDS 5.1 fault. This single master topology has to go through firewall. The master needs to replicate consumer which is on the other side of the island.
I see a bunch of "NSMMReplicationPlugin" errors (like couldn't send replica, bla..., failed to connect). Also, I run "cronjob" to do "ldapsearch" every 10 mins. Some of them failed, randomly.
It might be when the master tries to send to consumer, and the process (BER element) got joepardized somewhere, by the power of firewall stopage, the replication got stuck ! (like MOD process).
Then when, other MOD process comes, it just pile up and make bottleneck/eat up resource/used thread/etc, until the "ns-slapd" finally hung.
Yeah, if some colleague has experience in finding "bug" and guidelines, and can share it with me, that would be wonderful :)
thanks....

  • Getting Defunct processes while using Oracle iPlanet Web Server 7.0.9 in Solaris 10

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle iPlanet Web Server 7.0.9 in our Solaris 10. \
Successfully Configured iPlanet web server using the manual and the application scripts are working fine with this iPlanet webserver.
Even if the application is working fine, the iPlanet webserver stop responding at a period of time and needs to be restart manually...
Found that lots of defunct processes(PPID of webservd) are created and these defuncts (zombies) leads to stop the services.
I am not good in iPlanet webserver configuration settings on the Solaris 10 OS.
Could anyone help me to fix this issue ?
    Thanks,
    Antony.

  • Cluster Setup hung

    Hi All,
we are running in production environment. This case is very very critical. I checked thrice the cluster configuration everything seems to be fine. We are using WebLogic Server 5.1 with SP11 in a clustered environment. The operating system is Sun Solaris 2.6. The database version is Oracle 8.1.7 (Oracle parallel server).
Hardware Cluster : Sun Cluster 3.0
              Solaris_JDK 1.2.2_05a
              IPlanet Web Server 4.1 - proxy plug-in
very often both the server goes for a hung state and we are not able to send any request and recieve any response from both HTTP and T3. Is I am missing out something? Or Is this a bug with BEA WebLogic?
please throw me some light. Any help is really appreciated.
              Many Thanks in Advance,

At present, there is nothing in your post to indicate that JDBC-related problems
    are the key (yet).

we even tried testing the multicast address using java utils.MulticastTest, when
the server hungs. This works fine.
    The weblogic.log, proxy.log & access.log didin't show any error messages. Even
the thread dump(kill -3) doesn't carry any messages. JDBC Connection Pool is working
fine. we checked thru T3AdminJDBC. All connections are released.
We tried all the possibilities but we couldn't see any errors anywhere. But we
are unable to do even ping to the weblogic server.
    java weblogic.Admin t3://<ip_address>:port_no PING 1 1
    even this fail.

  • IPlanet SMTP problem

Let me just preface my post with saying I inherited administration of this system and still have a lot to learn.
    Here is my problem.
-Webmail client gets SMTP Error when trying to send a message.
-when this happens, the server "./imsimta process" shows only the dispatcher and job_controller running at that time. No smtp_client, or tcp_smtp_server, or ims_master running.
    - Restarting the imsimta does not solve the problem.
    - the tcp_smtp_server.log shows the following error:
    tcp_smtp_server.log-0ITC00502OVRSN:[19/Jan/2006:09:35:53 -0800] wwcc [7516]: General Error: func=_configdrv_pset_fetch;error=could not access server's configura
tion in ldap: func=psetRealCreate; error=System (OS/LDAP) related error
According to the Sun forum, this is the error message reported when the IMS cannot connect to its CONFIG ldap server to gather configuration information - but I'm not sure if that error is at the root of my problem.
I can resolve issue by stopping mail services and running an ./imsimta recover-crash or dirsync -F , but those are short term fixes because the problem is back the next day.
    So my questions are....
    - How can I restart the smtp server using the ims command line? and will that fix anything?
    - how can I check the smtp/ldap config? using configutil I believe?
    Here's what I'm running:
    # ./imsimta version
iPlanet Messaging Server 5.1 Patch 1 (built Jun 6 2002)
    libimta.so 5.1 Patch 1 (built 06:07:28, Jun 6 2002)
    HP-UX wwcc B.11.00 A 9000/879 674411361 two-user license
Thank you in advance for any support you can offer.

ldap server to gather configuration information - but
I'm not sure if that error is at the root of my
problem. No, the real problem is that you are running a VERY OLD and End Of Support Life product. iMS 5.1 is long dead.
One of the problems it has is that the whole dirsync process is bad, and needs to be abandoned. There are indeed many bugs in it, and those bugs will never be addressed.
    >
I can resolve issue by stopping mail services and
    running an ./imsimta recover-crash or dirsync -F ,
but those are short term fixes because the problem is
    back the next day.
    So my questions are....
    - How can I restart the smtp server using the ims
command line? and will that fix anything?
    - how can I check the smtp/ldap config? using
configutil I believe? If your server will not start a tcp_smtp_server process, because it cannot connect to the config ldap server, no command-line will help you.
If you server is locked up because your dirsync (imtasync) process is hung, you need to address that.
    Here's a short-term fix:
    1. Stop the messaging Server.
    2. Confirm that ALL messaging Server processes are stopped. Use ps -ef to check that all processes that run from within the Messaging install directory are indeed gone. Especially, check for stored, imtasync, dirsync, job_controller, dispatcher, and the rest.
    3. Run:
    imsimta clean_db
    start-msg store
    imsimta recover-crash
    start-msg
then you really, truly need to upgrade your software. Your bits are 4 years old.
Messaging Server 5.2p2 is still supported. That's a pretty easy upgrade. After installation, you need to turn Direct LDAP on, to eliminate dirsync completely.
Messaging Server 6.2 is the current version. It's vastly better. I would go there.

  • IPlanet 6.0 - Enabling HTTP logging to debug SSL Handshake

    Hello all,
We have a IPlanet 6.0 web server instance which receives secure HTTP requests from client systems. We are experiencing a SSL handshake failure. We have ensured that the correct certificates are installed at both ends.
A wireshark trace at the web server shows that the Client Hello was received successfully and a Server Hello was never sent. Our conjecture is that this could be because the cipher suites do not match. It could be extremely useful to us if we could enable appropriate levels of logging and/or add JVM options to log the HTTP/SSL handshake transactions.
Can someone help us with the additional logging? If there are questions that I can answer, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Sourabh

6.0 is EOL (dead). Please upgrade to 7.0.
I can answer SSL protocol questions as far as they apply to 7.0, but don't have any information about 6.0 specifically.
The JVM is not involved in SSL protocol handling. In general for diagnostics, always set the Web Server error log to verbose. That said in this case it probably won't help much, but can't hurt.
If the client hello is being silently ignored there is some higher level problem going on. Either the server has crashed or is hung or maybe it never received the client request or maybe its response was lost (a misbehaving firewall dropping packets, for example). This is not a case of merely having no common ciphersuite, the server would still have sent a failure response if it was able to do so.
It might not reveal much more than wireshark did, but first thing I'd try (after upgrading to 7.0 ;-), is run the connection attempt through ssltap and see what it reports.

  • Re: [iPlanet-JATO] Re: Retrieving all Values from a Tiled View

    Todd,
Let me try to explain you this time. I have a text field in a TiledViewBean.
When I display the page, the text field
html tag is created with the name="PageDetail.rDetail[0].tbFieldName" say
    five times/rows with same name.
The html tags look like this.
    <input type=text name="PageDetail.rDetail[0].tbFieldName" value=""
    maxlength=9 size=13>
    <input type=text name="PageDetail.rDetail[0].tbFieldName" value=""
    maxlength=9 size=13>
    <input type=text name="PageDetail.rDetail[0].tbFieldName" value=""
    maxlength=9 size=13>
When the form is submitted, I want to get the text field values using the
    method getTbFieldName().getValues() which
returns an array object[]. This is in case where my TiledViewBean is not
bound and it is working fine.
Now in case when my TiledView is bound to a model, it creates the html tags
    as follows.
    <input type=text name="PageDetail.rDetail[0].tbFieldName" value=""
    maxlength=9 size=13>
    <input type=text name="PageDetail.rDetail[1].tbFieldName" value=""
    maxlength=9 size=13>
    <input type=text name="PageDetail.rDetail[2].tbFieldName" value=""
    maxlength=9 size=13>
Now when I say getTbFieldName().getValues() it returns only the first
element values in the object[] and the rest of the
    values are null.
May be we need to create a utility method do get these values from
    requestContext.

    >
Without further clarification, I can say that the setValues() methodsNEVER
populates data on multiple rows of a (dataset) model, nor does it affect
multiple fields on the same row. Perhaps what you are seeing is theeffect
of default values. Model that derive from DefaulModel have the ability to
carry forward the values set on the first row to other rows in lieu ofdata
in those other rows. This behavior is for pure convenience and can be
turned off, and it is turned off for the SQL-based models.

  • TS1363 I was upgrading iPhone OS from 5.1 to 5.1.1 on Win 7 using iTunes 10.6.1.7.  The iPhone hung.  It is no longer visible by iTunes on Win 7

While upgrading iPhone OS from 5.1 to 5.1.1 on Win 7 using iTunes 10.6.1.7, the iPhone hung.  I could not get iTunes to find it and Win 7 does not see it.
When I connect the iPhone to the USB, Win 7 issues the welcome sound, but that is it.  The same happens when I disconnect iPhone.
The Devise Manager has the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver correct without any problem.  I updated this driver called usbaapl64.
    The iPhone is still hung.
    I restarted the iPod service
I restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service
I tried to empty and delete the temp directory in C:\users\myname\AppData\Local\ but could not
The iTunes I am using is the latest version
I updated the Apple Mobile Device Driver as stated above correctly
The iPhone is still hung and is not recognized by Win 7 or iTunes, so I cannot restore the OS to the previous working version
What else can I do to restore the previous working OS on my iPhone 4

I was connecting the iPhone 4 to a USB 3.0 port.  I was told by Apple Express Support (at US$29.99) not to use USB 3.0 and to use USB 2.1 instead.
If you are connecting your iPhone to the computer using a USB 3.0 port, disconnect it immediately.  iPhones will lock up if you try to update while  using a connection through a USB 3.0 port.
Disconnect the iPhone from the computer
Go to Device Manager and find the connected USB port.  Click the mouse right button and update the driver
Shut the iPhone by pressing the sleep button and the home button concurrently for some time
Move the USB cable to a USB 2.1 port or older without the iPhone.
    Restart iTunes.
    Connect the iPhone
Your computer should recognize the phone and reloads the correct USB 2.1 driver (Apple Mobile Device)
Then iTunes should recognize the iPhone and starts reloading the firmware.
When that is complete it may ask if you wish to restore, naturally you say YES
    iTunes will restore the iOS
Using iTunes, restore the latest backup to get your data back.
When all of the above is completed.  Start enjoying your iPhone.
If the above does not work.  Throw your iPhone out of the window and get a replacement Android phone.

Firefox is running when my laptop comes out of system standby, but the page that was displaying when the laptop went into sleep mode is now a white canvas that does not refresh.
The application is not hung, because I get prompted to save tabs when I quit, but for some reason, I can't prompt Firefox into refreshing the screen.
I'm running Firefox on a Thinkpad T400 which has Intel 4 series Express integrated Graphics.

This also happened if the network adapter is disabled then enabled. My computer is Windows 7 x64. Firefox needs to be killed from taskman before it will load a new instance of the application. I can also reproduce with all add-ons disabled.

How do I achieve this on Iplanet 4.1.
NOTE: I referred to Iplanet 6.x where we can achieve this by updating web-app.xml timeOut value per URI. I do not find web-app.xml under v4.1
    Thanks in advance,

Sorry to say that we can't help here. WS4.1 is obsolete a long time ago.
As you mentioned that you should use WS6.1SPx or WS7.0 for your production and get support.

  • Re: [iPlanet-JATO] Sorting a resultset

    Steve,
Todd will probably address this more, but to set the stage for the discussion,
I will chime in. As per your scenario "say a user wants to resort the results
by some other column" , I think there needs to be some clarification on the
life cycle of the model. You scenario implies that the user sees the data and
then submits a request to sort the data. This implies that the access to the
same data is spread across two HTTP requests.
Unless explicitly or implicitly stored in session, the Model is a per request
object. Therefore, under ordinary circumstances a new instance of Model is
constructed per request and populated as needed. This is done for scalability
reasons. Most applications would not scale properly if all model instances were
kept around in session per user. There is also the issue of data integrity, a
model stored in session may not reflect the current state of the RDBMS from
which the data was previously retrieved, perhaps minutes before. So, the
default action is to instantiate a new model and repopulate that model The
normal solution would be to apply the sort criteria to the data retrieval at
    that point.
What I described above is the norm and the default.
If you have compelling reasons to prefer a single retrieval style, you have to
be prepared to store the Model data in session. There are several methods
within the ModelManager class which assist in this regard. You can see them
    described in the java doc.
Also bear in mind that the SQLModelBase typically copies the data from the JDBC
result set into JATO specific local storage. This is done because the JDBC
result set is not as flexible as developer needs and requires the JDBC
connection to remain open while it is used.
I suspect that Todd will describe how you can manipulate the underlying JATO
specific local storage to change the order. I just wanted to make sure you
understood the life cycle issues involved and had justification for deviating
    from the default.
Also, I'm still waiting for followup on the defaultCommandChild issue - we'd
like to fix it for JATO 1.2.1 if it is a problem and so far your case is the
only one we have heard of.

If I want to sort a result set (Model) after the search has taken
place (say a user wants to resort the results by some other column),
can this be done without issuing another query? The reason I ask is
that the next() method in the ResultSetModelBase calls synchronizeRow
(), which resets the row, which sounds like a sort done outside of
    the SQL would be reverted.
