Iplanet 6.0 Crashing on SunOS 5.8

I am getting the following error in our Iplanet logs after the server has been running for a day, sometimes two. We have increased the file descriptors and have never seen the error for running out of file descriptors in the log. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? I didn't install the server or set it up so I am still in the process of determining if any patches have been applied. When I find that out I will post it.

Thanks,

Hi Michael,
How did you change Hard File Descriptor Limit??
I have changed RqThrottle from 128 to 64 but I
couldn't find other properties in the files mentioned
in the logs...I changed the rqthrottle in the magnus.conf file. I still have the same problem. We thought it went away but from Jan-August is our slow time and now the problem is coming back. It did crash in a different place though.

    a) First check your hard and soft 'ulimit' value, using commands "ulimit -H -n" and "ulimit -S -n"
    b) If it is unlimited, set it to a fixed value such as 65536. Example:
    ulimit -Sn 65536
    ulimit -Hn 65536
(Check with your Solaris Administrator if you need further help with this step)
    c) Restart web server.
    d) Re-run command "ulimit -H -n" to verify setting was changed
    e) Then restart WebLogic PIA to validate that the issue is resolved.

  • IPlanet Web Server crashes when uploading a file of size 15 MB

    Hi
Setup is iPlanet Web Server 6.0 with iPlanet App Server 6.5. A servlet is used to upload files using multipart form data. The web server restarts itself when tried to upload a huge file (approx 15 MB). The error log says
    Catastrophe (600) Web server crashed.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    Rajesh

yeah its working fine. Thank you very much..
But it would be better if we provide the chunklength rather than using a zero to upload the file fastly.

When did it start occurring and did you change anything around this time (OS patches, networking etc.)?
Do you have a core-dump (and pstack of the core dump)?
, can someone will help in troubleshooting this problemIf this is a urgent issue you need resolving you should log a Sun support case (assuming you have a support contract that is).

  • IPlanet crash on Solaris 8

    Hi,
I am using iPlanet 5.2 on Solaris 8. When a separate changelog Plugin is being used the iPlanet Directory Server crashes after receiving the signal SIGBUS BUS_ADRALN. However, if Retro Changelog Plugin is used, the changes are processed without any problems. I am not sure if the problem lies with the changelog plug-in I am using or with iPlanet itself! The changelog Plug-in returns the changes and processes them correctly. However, this leads to crash of iPlanet directory server.
Could someone please help me with this?

you only need libumem if the program that generated the core file had
    loaded libumem.
libumem is available from Solaris 9 and is an alternative malloc library that works like the kernel memory allocator allowing good debugging and memory leak checking amongst its benefits. If you need libumem features to be able to debug the program then you will need some
new core files with libumem loaded ( solaris 9 and later).
to see what libraries were loaded in your program before the core files use "pldd core"
to see the stack traces run "gcore core"
to debug the cores use "mdb program core"

  • Permissions issue with installing iim

I am trying to install IIM using Portal SP3A. When I am prompted for the user and group to run as and the directory to install log files and such, it says the user/group does not have the proper permissions no matter who I use (except root). I have tried multiple users/groups, changed permissions, different directories, and even changed umask. Nothing works. What is the problem?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    2 updates on this:
    1. For testing purposes, i created a directory (/iimtest) and chown inetuser:inetgroup and chmod 777 on that directory. I then tried to install iim and it still says that inetuser does not have correct permissions for /iimtest. Now how could that be???
    drwxrwxrwx 2 inetuser inetgroup 512 Sep 6 13:26 iimtest
    2. I tried to install iim using root/root as the user/group just to see if it would install. And, low and behold, it didn't. The log doesn't really give any pertant info to help figure out why. Here is the log:

  • Error accepting connection -5928, oserr=130 Connect aborted

We are using iplanet 6.0sp5 webserver on sunOS. Users are having problems to access the site. in our error logs we are seeing this error
failure (27438): Error accepting connection -5928, oserr=130 (Connect aborted)
This is happening intermittently. Did any one see this problem.

Did you ever find a solution to this?
Based on the link below, do you see this error occurring when you restart the server?
    http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.ctct.co.jp/tsd/iplanet/FAQ/030601.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3DError%2Baccepting%2Bconnection%2B%2522-5928%2522%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26c2coff%3D1%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG

  • Why does the server hang while starting up or the "csdb recover" hang when it is run?

Sometimes after iPlanet Calendar Server crashes, the server hangs during
    startup or the csdb
utility hangs when I execute the recover
    command.
    <P>
One possible solution is to delete all of the .share
files in the same directory as the
Calendar Server database. In most cases, the server will successfully start up
    again.

When you start up in Safe Mode various things aren't loaded at startup, Bob.
Have a thinbk about which of the following may be involved in your own case:
It forces a directory check of the startup volume.
It loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions).
It runs only Apple-installed startup items (some of the items in /Library/StartupItems and /System/Library/StartupItems - and different than login items).
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger only: It disables all fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts .
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger only: It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501.
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger only: It disables any Login Items.
    (from http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392)
Have a look at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106464 for some more possibilities.
You may find it worth while using System Prefernces/Accounts to creat a new admin user account and see if the problem persists with it. THis may help you narrow down the problem further.
    Cheers

So from what you said in your reply, do you mean these could be an unknown problem in Sun one web server ??
I do not have any contract with Sun, so i guess I have to debug these problem by examining the core files. But what are the core files and the sources? Or which file or module is probably causing the problem?
Many thanks if you can provide me with further info about these server crashing ..... ?
In fact, this is a Sun One web server unknown problem or my application problem ?? any idea based on the crashing messages i have so far ....???

    Hi;
The Message ID: SUNOS-8000-0G indicates errors detected by the Solaris kernel required immediate reboot to preserve system integrity.
This error event could be caused by a hardware fault, such as a defective component or firmware incompatibility, or a software event, such as a bad patch, misconfiguration, or downrev device driver. This list is not an exhaustive list of possible reasons for the reboot, but merely some suggestions as to why it took place.

  • Iplanet ds 5.1sp4 + digest-md5 - slapd crash

Sol9 bundled iplanet directory server with sp4 on Sparc.
Everything is doing fine, until: when trying to connect into the directory with ms outlook 'secure password authentication' on, serverprocess crashes immediately. No coredumps, nothing left.
Debugging shows, that outlook tries to bind with DIGEST-MD5, server tries it,
responds with "auth failed", and crashes with internal authentication error..
-> Almost everyone can DOS our servers, just knowing its address and clicking 'search'.
    Has anyone any suggestions?

    Ok, that might be it.
So there is no patch nor documentation across it?
Makes me wonder how many admins run their servers unaware of that bug..
    Thanks!
