IPlanet 6.5 & Web Services

Hi!!
Im new in this of Web Services. I have a question about my application server. I dont know if my iPlanet 6.5 supports Web Services. My boss says iPlanet 6.5 supports Web Services, but i think iPlanet supports Web Services from version 7.
Does anybody help me???
Thanks!!

iPlanet 6.5 supports only pure SOAP (no WSDL, no UDDI).
Sun ONE AS 7 supports a JAX-RPC based web service (WSDL, UDDI, etc.) and JAXM, JAXR, JAXP.

  • Follow up to web services question:  How do I expose java components as web services on iPlanet 6.0 app server?

    My task - my company has several legacy PowerBuilder applications that access a variety of Sybase and MS SQL databases. Rather than re-inventing the wheel by re-writing these applications in Java, we would like to enable these applications to call java components (EJBs) that will provide new functionality. I would need a piece of software called CSXtend (from www.cynergysystems.com) to allow PowerBuilder to call a web service. However, I am not sure how to expose my business functions (EJBs) as web services on the iPlanet 6.0 App server. Thanks for all previous responses! Any additional info would be greatly appreciated! Mike

    I have used Glue (http://www.themindelectric.com/products/glue/glue.html) to expose some of our stuff as Web Services. I recently found this on serverside. It's pretty good.

    I believe that the middleware they use can be plugged into IPlanet. There is also an article in the knowledge base on the IPlanet site.

    Okie-dokie then.
    You can hard-code the hostname into the /etc/hostconfig file. Usually, it reads <pre>HOSTNAME=-AUTOMATIC-</pre> but you can substitute <pre>HOSTNAME=machine.domain.com</pre>
    You don't need to reboot if you also issue the command
    <pre>sudo hostname machine.domain.com</pre> on the command line. (I could be wrong, but I think the hostconfig file is read on boot only.)
    Then try <pre>sudo apachectl configtest</pre> once again. If you get no errors, see if you can start up the web service. You can do it either with the Server Admin app or with <pre>sudo apachectl start</pre>

    Does any one have insights about it?

    Hi Swapna,
    from your screenshot it seems that you actually try to call the service in your Data Source Expression field. You should set path to the WSDL file here actually - this could be either URL to SAP or to filesystem, as Anton suggested (this could be faster). Have you created endpoint binding for your service in transaction SOAMANAGER? If yes, then simply download the corresponding WSDL with binding or copy the URL which leads to it. But also test whether you are able to retrieve the WSDL without logging into SAP (close all browser windows and then open a new one otherwise session ID from other browser windows can be reused).
    If you have to give username and password, then setup anonymous alias in transaction SICF, for example.
    Pleas, check my previous post on the same subject here: Re: BCM7 IVR : SOAP request for client identification in CRM .
    Maybe it could help.
    Regards,
    Dawood.

  • I have a web service that I am trying to use an MDB with.

    I have a web service where I request using soapUI, and the the response from the soapUI that I get is correct. However, in addition to this "regular" program flow, I am sending data to a queue where 2 things should happen:
    1. my message should get put in that queue....(not a problem I think, it's says it can connect and send to this one)
    2. a MDB should get triggered, but isn't, and the MDB should start it's own program flow after this.
    this is the basics as to what is happening in my program, and I get this error below on the end of the output. so would anyone have any theories as to what might be wrong?

  • Web Service encoding response improperly using the plugin and ssl

    We are having a problem with the response from a document style web service. The response is xml but the elements come back as "&lt element &gt" instead of <element>. The return variable is of type String.
    Our setup is Iplanet(6.1) frontend using the wl-proxy plugin
    to Weblogic 8.1. The webservice is using https. If we use port 7001 (not https) instead of https 443 it works fine.
    It appears to me that the plugin when used with ssl has a bug.
    In help would be greatly appreciated. This situation did not occur using wls6.1. When we migrated to 8.1 that is when it started happening.
    Other screnarios tested: When going right at weblogic 8.1 using ssl no problem.

    Hi
    When you have generated the client proxy classes from NW DS you can then include the .jar file into your applets code. Then, to actually execute the web service you can use the following code (for example)
    String logicalPort = "<logical port defined in WSDL>";
    <generate service interface> service = new <generated service implementation>();
    <generated proxy class> port = (<generated proxy class>)service.getLogicalPort(logicalPort, <generated proxy class>.class);
    String param = "myval";
    String result = port.<method>(param);
    where everything in the <> represents the relevant client classes that have been generated by NW DS. Bear in mind that you can either create deployed proxies or standalone proxies. Deployed proxies get deplyed to the J2EE server and need to be looked up via JNDI. The implementation classes are not included as part of the proxy generation.
    Standalone proxies are created with the implementation classes included and can therefore be included in ANY java application.
    I hope this helps
    Darrell

  • Calling a WebLogic web service from a WebLogic web application

    We would like to call a WebLogic web service from WebLogic web application. The current architecture looks like:
    LoadBalancer--->iPlanet-1/iPlanet-2--->Firewall--->WebLogic-AppServer-1/WebLogic-AppServer-2
    The web application and web service are in the same WebLogic cluster. We would prefer that the web services do not get published externally.
    Does the WebLogic web application need to make a call back outside the firewall to the load balancer?
    Is there a way the web services can be called locally with load balancing?
    Can web service calls be made over the t3 protocol?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    I think one solution is to use a Java proxy to call the Web services.
    In the Java proxy you can have a method that accepts the user/pass and sets them correctly for the Web service.
    Then you expose that Java proxy as a data control (right click, create data control) - and then create a page that invokes that method.
    (For the basics of working with a POJO data control see: http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/2009/07/java_class_data_control_and_ad.html )

  • Expose AM methods as web services

    Hi All,
    As searched results from the forum, most of posts talking about how to consume WS by generating java file from wsdl. My question is, can we expose an AM method as web services? If answer is yes, may I have some high level steps for following up?
    If we expose AM method as an web service, does that mean we have to pack all FND/OA classes in war file then deploy it into OC4J container?
    We are using an old AS and even don't have standalone OC4J server installed. Even I can install a standalone OC4J but I still don't know how to resolve above question.
    Thanks & Regards,
    KJ

  • IPlanet Sun ONE Web Proxy Server 3.6 SP6 terminating

    I have a problem with my proxy server server.
    I use iPlanet Sun ONE Web Proxy Server 3.6 SP6
    It is terminating and the service is restarting. This happens about 10-15 times a day. The message I get from the log is :
    [22/Mar/2005:09:29:30] info: server terminating... each time it terminates.
    I know for sure that this is no hardware issue (as I have changed the hard disk recently). My OS is win2000 server SP4 + all released patches from MS.
    Also I have reinstalled the OS several times (clean install after format) and I got the same result.
    Also I tried to use the proxy with/without LDAP server for authentication - the same.
    Any suggestions/recommendations are mostly welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kaloyan

    Dear Kaloyan,
    Migration to another proxy (e.g. ISA) seems to be quickest solution for your problem, as WebProxy doesn't work well on w2k platform.

    Hi ,
    We are facing some error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from our BPEL Process on the windows platform(SOA 10.1.3.3.0).
    For the BPEL process we are following the same steps as given in an AMIS blog : - [http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1607/how-to-call-a-ws-security-secured-web-service-from-oracle-bpel]
    but sttill,after deploying it and passing values in it,we are getting the following error on the console :-
    &ldquo;Header [http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/08/addressing:Action] for ultimate recipient is required but not present in the message&rdquo;
    Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi James,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    We've tried to call that web service from an HTML designed in Visual Studios with the same username and password and its working fine.
    But on the BPEL console, we are getting the error as mentioned.
    Also if you can tell me how to set the user name and password in the header of the parter link.I could not find how to do it.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to capture return values in web services api

    At the time of login to web services if my server is down ,
    it returns following error :
    java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
            at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1438)
            at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1411)
    I want to capture this error so that i can try another server to login. how do i capture this error
    Another place where i want to capture the return Value is when i look for a report on the server
    rh = boBIPlatform.get("path://InfoObjects/Root Folder/"src_folder"/" + reportName +
                               "@SI_SCHEDULEINFO,SI_PROCESSINFO" ,oGetOptions);
    oInfoObjects = rh.getInfoObjects();
    CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
    Here if the report is not there on the server , it returns a null handler exception.
    but if i try catching it by checking my responsehandler is null  like rh == null  it does not catch it.
    Any help will be appreciated
    thanks

    Ted : i have two cases
    1)   server = server_st.nextToken();
        providerURL = "http://"server"/dswsbobje/services";
        sessConnURL = new URL(providerURL + "/session");
       Connection boConnection = new Connection(sessConnURL);
       Session boSession = new Session(boConnection);
      EnterpriseCredential boEnterpriseCredential = new    EnterpriseCredential();
                  boEnterpriseCredential.setLogin(userid);
      boEnterpriseCredential.setPassword(pwd);
      boEnterpriseCredential.setAuthType(auth);
    SessionInfo boSI = boSession.login(boEnterpriseCredential);
    I have got a list of servers running web servcies stored in my tokens. when i pass the first server name say " test:8080" and that server is down , i want to catch somewhere in the code above that it did not get the connection so that i can loop back and try with the second server say test1:8080
    This is for failover purposes.
    at present when i was trying to capture return value of boSI it  breaks giving the error
    java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
    at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1438)
    at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1411)
    2nd case :
    I am geeting reports from the server and scheduling them:
    i run the following code which works fine if reports is there
    rh = boBIPlatform.get("path://InfoObjects/Root Folder/"src_folder"/" + reportName +
    "@SI_SCHEDULEINFO,SI_PROCESSINFO" ,oGetOptions);
    oInfoObjects = rh.getInfoObjects();
    CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
    Here if  the  report  is not there on the server  then i should be able to catch from the response handle rh that it has got a null value.
    but rh does not return a null value
    the code ultimately throws a null handle at the following line
    CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
    i am not able to catch the null value there also.
    hope you got my issue.

  • How to allow access to web service running under ApplicationPoolIdentity

    Hi All,
    I have a WCF web service hosted in IIS 7 (or maybe 7.5, whichever comes with Windows server 2008 R2) using DefaultAppPool running under ApplicationPoolIdentity per Microsoft's recommendation. The web service needs to call a stored procedure to insert data
    to a db. The web server is on a different VM than the database server. The db server is running SQL 2008 R2. Both VMs run Windows server 2008 R2.
    When the web service tries to connect to db, it encounters this exception:
    Exception in InsertToDb()System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
       at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
    Here's the connection string in web.config:
    Application Name=somewebservice;Server=somewebserver;Integrated Security=SSPI;Database=somedatabase;Connection Timeout=60"
    How should I configure SQL security to make this work?
    Thanks in advanced.

    Thanks for the link Dan. Maybe I'm the one who cause the confusion :)
    If I understand you(and Erland) correctly, you suggest using a custom, domain account for application pool identity. However, if we do that, our IT will need to maintain those accounts, and they don't  want that. So I'm choosing a built-in account called
    ApplicationPoolIdentity as the application pool identity, but it's not working. Network Service, on the other hand, works, but my boss wants us to follow MS's best practice.
    What's puzzling is that according to this: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/624/application-pool-identities/, both Network Service and ApplicationPoolIdentity uses machine account to access network resource (like db in this case), but in my case, Network Service
    works, but not ApplicationPoolIdentity.
    Hallo Stephen,
    with respect - it seems to me that only idiots are working at your IT ;)... It is absolutely useful to work with "service accounts" created within the domain. That's the only way to manage and control accounts!
    If you want to "pass through" the identity of the web user (SSO) you have to check whether the app pool is set to "allow impersonate". As far as I understand the ApplicationPoolIdentity-function the app pool will create a unique user named as the service.
    I assume that will not work with the connection to the sql server because this user is unknown.
    Local Service will not work because it's restriction is located to the local machine.
    Network Service will work because access to network resources will be available.
    So my recommendation is to use a dedicated service account or impersonation:

  • How do I use the Web Services API to query orders?

    The help doc states, "you can retrieve details for purchases including products purchased, payments received, and their status." The only additional info is at the link to eCommerce-Related Web Service, which does not include any information about retrieving "products purchased, payments received, and their status."

    Hey if you read over that again you have two links, the other is this one:
