IPlanet Compatibility with Spring/Hibernate

Hi,
I need to develop a J2EE application.
I need to used iPlanet as a Web Server.
I want to know the compatibility if iPlanet with Spring/Hibernate.
Is it possible to develop an application using Spring/Hibernate if iPlanet is the Web Server.
thanks

Do you mean iPlanet Web Server 6.0? That's more than 7 years old. It's no longer supported by Sun and contains unfixed security vulnerabilities that make it unfit for production use. Modern versions of Spring and Hibernate won't work with the ancient version of the Java Servlet specification implemented by Web Server 6.0.
Spring and Hibernate will, however, work with the current iteration of Sun's web server product, Sun Java System Web Server 7.0.

    here is one how to use spring, and for Hibernate, since JPA support is there shouldn't be a problem

    In my current project, Our customer want to use dynpro to replace jsp pages. I investegated on their old system but found that they did not use EJB in their business logic layer.They used Spring framework.
    My question is: If they want to use web dynpro, Need they re-write the business layer with EJB? I don't think web service is good way to solve the problem.

    (1)What are the things I should grasp even before taking off to Design pattern?You should understand core Java very, very well.
    You should know JSPs using JSTL without scriptlets.
    You should understand relational databases and SQL.
    You should understand HTML and HTTP.
    Personally I think Struts, Spring, and Hibernate all at once are well beyond any beginner.
    It's hard to advise you on what to do without knowing your capabilities and the problem you're trying to solve, but I think you should try it first using just JSPs, servlets, and JDBC. Get that to work and then refactor it to use the frameworks. You'll understand and appreciate them more that way.

    I suggest you try a simpilier direct approach as follows and verifiy it works. Often, the JDBC driver does not support getting meta data.
    This example uses DatabaseMetaData to get data from an Oracle database. You will have to find an equivalent object to work with the database you are using.
    DatabaseMetaData dbmd=      null;
    ResultSet resultSet=     null;
              try{
                   dbmd=          connection.getMetaData();
                   resultSet=  dbmd.getColumns(null,schemaName,tableName,null);
                   while(resultSet.next()){
                        System.out.println(resultSet.getString("COLUMN_NAME"));

  • Coherence with spring integration

    Hi
    I am new to Oracle Coherence.Can any one please provide references for integration with Spring application.In the links not provided the complete information.
    Thanks in advance.
    Edited by: 922685 on Apr 2, 2012 9:56 PM

    How are you planning to integrate Spring and Coherence? (The link shows an example for configuring Coherence with write-behind)
    Do you plan to use Coherence as a second-level cache for a particular persistence framework?
    At the end of this post (http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=5407) Coherence is used as a second-level cache for
    Hibernate in which Spring is used to configure the Hibernate set-up.

  • Spring/Hibernate tier called from Java Stored Procedure

    Here is my scenario.
    Building out a new physical model alongside an old db.
    Two schema's inside same Oracle instance.
    We are building a new Java tier on top of the new schema using spring/hibernate.
    To maintain sync with the old db we are building a load of PLSQL code that will be called by PLSQL stored procs on the old schema.
    ====
    Now it occurred to me that if I could put a copy of my new java tier in the database itself then the trigger code on the old schema could call a java stored proc wrapper which in turn called into my new java tier inside the instance.
    This way I avoid duplication business logic in the db sync and the java middle tier. Basically I do away with the PLSQL sync code and just use the new java component.
    This clearly has advantages from an automated testing point of view too.
    So very interested in how/if anyone has made this work.
    Potential issues...
    - JVM version (outside the db we use Sun Java 5 - inside the db I'm not sure what is used).
    - How would spring access it's config files?

    user563578,
    You asked:
    interested in how/if anyone has made this workNot me.
    You also asked:
    Potential issues...
    - JVM version (outside db use Sun Java 5 - inside db not sure)
    - How would spring access it's config files?
    Oracle has its own JVM embedded in the database: OJVM
    In Oracle 8i it is compatible with JDK 1.2
    In Oracle 9i it is comaptible with JDK 1.3
    In Oracle 10g it is compatible with JDK 1.4
    You can access files outside of the database from OJVM, you just need to set correct permissions.
    Perhaps Kuassi Mensah's book, Oracle Database Programming Using Java and Web Services will be of help?
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • FDS+Spring+Hibernate

    If any body has worked with FDS /Hibernate/Spring
    pls post the sample.
    regards
    anil

    The posts here that point to examples of Spring + FDS and
    separate examples of Hibernate + FDS and then say combining the two
    should be easy seem to be missing the point. This is not as easy an
    straight forward as it seems it should be.
    Spring + Hibernate + FDS is a completely different animal
    because you are getting Spring to handle the Session Factory
    configuration and your DAO's as Spring beans but you also want the
    handling of lazy initialization and proxy serialization as shown in
    the HibernateAssembler.
    The current HibernateAssembler code handles all of the
    Hibernate setup. I would much rather have Spring do this. What I
    would like is for my HibernateProxy's for non initialized
    associations to be serialized rather than traversed resulting
    LazyInitializationExceptions. The HibernateAssembler seems to
    tackle this with a very mysterious piece of code:
    PropertyProxyRegistry.getRegistry().register(HibernateProxy.class,
    new HibernatePropertyProxy());
    PropertyProxyRegistry and HibernatePropertyProxy are not
    documented anywhere, and in fact a Google on PropertyProxyRegistry
    returns 0 results. However, my intuition tells me this piece of
    code should tell serialization to proxy the HibernateProxy with a
    flex class called HibernatePropertyProxy which will just serialize
    an id of an association rather than attempting to serialize the
    uninitialized associated class.
    I cannot get this to work though and as there is no
    documentation and no discussion on these classes, I have no way of
    verifying it. If my intuition is correct, this is a very useful
    mechanism. I only wish it was documented b/c if it did work as
    expected it would make a Hibernate + Spring + FDS implementation
    pretty easy.
    Anyone know anything about this?

  • Windows 8 and itunes 11 compatibility with an ipod

    I have itunes11 and Windows 8. I've called Apple and I've talked to Microsoft. This was months ago. I can download itunes and run it from my laptop but am unable to sync my ipod. I get an error and it automatically reboots my computer. I was told there were known compatibility with itunes and Windows 8.  This was months ago.
    I know how to downgrade itunes to XP or Win 7. This is not the issue. I can download to my laptop and place, it will not sync to my ipod device (which is a fear years old), but when I did talk to support I was told that it was supported. The ipod was not the issue.. It was the incompatibility between the programs.
    I see recent updates in the support community in the past month about production resolution but this still has not resolved my issue. I don't believe purchasing a new ipod is going to resolve the issue either.
    If anyone has successfully developed a workaround or recently downloaded itunes11 w/ Windows 8 and can sync to an apple ipod I would love to know how you did it.

    Im not sure that will solve the issue I have with itunes. I have a lenovo laptop and I think it's just an issue with Apple who has to modify the program for users of Windows 8 so that itunes can be used and to find purchased music. I found the music I purchased through itunes but it's not the full tracks. It said it allows me to download it fully so I can hear the whole track, but needs some kind of capatibility? I have no idea what the problem is. If someone has the answer knowing my computer brand and having windows 8 compatibility issues, please let me know what you suggest.

    I am fed up with Spring and Apple passing me off to one another and neither will fix the problem. I am unable to receive a connection on my phone.
    The internet goes out and I have to reset network setting each and every time. This is only a temporary solution which by the time I release the line with Spring or leave the apple store the issue is back. Sprint indicates that it is a know issue with the Iphone 5 and apple says it is a network issue as Sprint's network is not up to par with the Iphone and can not meet the expectations on the Iphone 5.
    I have attached a few picture, as you can see it clearly says I have 5 bars and 3g available but I have no connections what so ever.
    This issue affects all data and so I can not send or receive picture messages, use apps, or access the internet. The data goes in and out intermittently and it seems the phone chooses what I can and can't do.
    For example I can watch Youtube or Vevo videos but I can not access Facebook or Instagram.
    Is anyone else having this issue?
    I will soon loose my patience....

  • How do I use toplink with Spring 2.5 and oc4j 10.1.2?

    Our existing java server environment is limited to Oc4j 10.1.2 due to being tied to Oracle Forms.
    We've added a java 6 jdk to the machine and linked it to a specific container to examine some newer java features since this version of the application server only comes with java 1.4.2.
    Does anyone have some configuration steps for getting toplink essentials and spring to work with oc4j 10.1.2? Even with oc4j 10.1.3 in jdev 10.1.3.4 I'm having problems trying to figure out what needs placed in the persistence.xml file verses what needs placed in the spring-beans.xml file.
    I'm trying to either use the J2SE option of keeping the connection information in the persistence.xml file (which doesn't work) - it tries to connect to //localhost:1521/orcl. If I try to define a datasource within Spring's xml file, I'm not sure how to tie that into the persistence.xml file. Could I use the oc4j 10.1.2 container provided datasource?
    It seems like I'm at a loss as to how to get this working. If you'd like me to post some files, I can do that later on today when I get back to work.
    The configuration that I'm trying to do is based on a modified workspace from an ibm developerworks article with websphere, mixing in the ideas from a JPA with Spring 2.0 article from Mike Keith and Rod Johnson. (That article goes pretty far in the configuration information but never provided an example to download...)
    Any help appreciated.
    Eric (hbg, pa)

    I'm still at a loss with this. Rather than worry about the older version, for now, I just want to see JPA in action. So, I've decided on just running the Spring 2.5.6 petclinic example out of the samples folder.
