Mac OS X now uses the clang compiler, and it is possible the package has not been ported to work with the pickier clang compiler.
If your system has gcc, you could maybe try hacking the Makefile to use gcc instead of cc (or maybe export CC=gcc, again assuming you have an older copy of gcc on your system).  You might also try specifying some CFLAGS to disable some compiler checks.  It is possible you will need to modify the sources to fix obnoxious coding violations that both clang and gcc will not ignore.
Or you might check if one of the Mac OS X package managers have already ported the package:  http://MacPorts.org, http://brew.sh, http://www.finkproject.org

  • Safari won't quit, so I can't install Office Mac.

Hey guys. I got my new Office Mac, and I was hoping to install it. It said Firefox and Safari needed to close. Firefox was a snap (good job guys!), but Safari is doing HORRIBLE. It is not forcing to quit at all, and I don't want to restart or shut down (I bet it wouldn't work.) Now, according to THIS issue... I can't install my Mac Office 2011, and THAT on the other hand stinks, because I need it for school projects.
Is anyone willing to offer advice??? Thanks!!!
    ~AppleFan17

You say even force quitting won't work? When Safari is open hold down Option + ⌘ + Q.

If you have a Mid 2010 model: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If later then see below:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you have an earlier model:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Can I install a Mac OS on a pc computer as the ONLY OS?
I'm currently running linux on a pc (acer aspire) but i want to know if i had a mac os can i run it on my current computer as the only os?

It is illegal to do that. The EULA states that it must be installed on Apple hardware to be legal.

Can I install both mac os and Windows 7 on MacBook Pro?
I saw Windows XP picture on this website. And I would like to try mac os while using Windows 7.
And does Windows 7 on MacBook Pro support high quality game experience? Im sick and tired of reducing to low quality graphics to play some nice games such as GTA 4 and new released games. Hope I can play games with high quality.

If you have a brand new MacBook Pro or have installed Lion on an older one, you can only instal Windows 7 on Boot Camp (for some reason you can't use Vista or earlier). If you have a Windows 7 CD and a license, it's pretty easy to do via Boot Camp. See here for instructions: http://support.apple.com/manuals/#macos
If you install via Boot Camp, Windows 7 will run as fast as your computer is. Generally, MacBook Pros are very fast laptops, so you should be pretty good. That being said, just like any laptop, if it's a cheaper MacBook Pro, you won't have access to as capable graphics processing as more high-end machines. So if it's a newer game with crazy impressive graphics, you will likely not be able to tap into the highest settings on the game on any laptop.

my mac mini build is 11G56 and mac osx is 10.7.5 how can i install latest mac 10.8 and above

Simply purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store and it will begin installation after the download is complete. Note that it's a large download, about 4.5GB, so you should have a good Internet connection..
However... if I were you, I would just wait another month or so until Apple releases Mavericks - the 'latest' announced version of OS X -> http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/.
No need to pay for two upgrades in a months (or so) time...

  • Can't install on Mac OS 10.6

I am trying to install Adobe Premiere Elements 10 on a Mac OS 10.6 operating system.  I keep getting an exit code 7 with 0 fatal errors, 8 errors and 7 warnings.  Error DW006 Apple Package failed to install successfully and payload errors are the main issues along with camera profiles installer.  What is happening?  I loaded this before on my hard drive, but the hard drive had to be removed as it was damaged.  I now have a new hard drive and can't install.

    Hi Kplet,
I am not seeing enough information in your install log summary to advise you.  I would recommend reviewing your installation log in it's entirety.
You can find details on how to accomplish this at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5 -cs5.html.  and   http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-install-using-logs-elements.html

I'm going to buy Final Cut Studio software from a friend, who has registered the application with Apple. Can I install the software on my Mac Pro without problems? The previous owner had it installed on a MacBook Pro.

As long as they delete it from their computer, you should be fine....

  • Which version of Windows XP (SP1, SP2, SP3?) can I install on Mac Pro 2011 using Boot camp

I am planning to install Microsoft XP on my Mac Pro 2011 using boot-camp. Since there are multiple versions available (Home, Professional, Pro with SP1, SP2, and SP3's etc…) I am finding hard to decide which one is the tested and best available option?
Also any other specific features to consider while purchasing this OS.
    Please advise…

Thank you guys for your quick response.
However, I am not clear what you guys wanna say here, I simply want to know Which windows XP can I install on Macbook Pro (Laptop) using boot camp?
I will repeat what I already said given that you told us that you are running Lion on a newer MacBook Pro.
You should visit the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
And you should read the Boot Camp Help documents http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
XP, regardless of version, is not going to work on a newer computer nor will it work if you are running Lion OS.

  • Can't install driver mac OS X 10.5.8

Is that anything I can do?

  • Can't install my mac office

I cant install my Mac Office, and my comp telling me to turn off some apps not sure what to do pls help...

I would avoid MS Office, MS is not ready with all compatibility issues.
I avoid MS Office simply because I avoid anything Microsoft...  but there are no compatibility issues with Lion and Office 2011, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

  • Can I install a Mac os on windows using bootcamp?

I want to Install Lion onto my dell Laptop so I can run Disk utility and clone my mac hard drive.
My problem is my mac was saying i was running out of space on my start up drive for a lil while now ...then yesterday it said my start up disk is full.
I was told to get a new hard drive and clone it but didnt know anything about booting up or anything like that. I went and had the guy at the computer shop put in the new hard dive and put my old start up hard drive in an external case. But not now I cant start up because 1. the internal disk isnt formatted and 2. the external is too full to boot up. I heard you can start your comp up as a hard drive but You would need to have a mac to do the cloning. So I wanted to know since I have lion OSX can I use bootcamp to partition my pc hardrive in my Dell to run Lion and do the clone using my PC?

Install the MacDrive trial on the PC and copy off/delete enough data from the Mac drive to allow it to boot up.
