IPod: Can I designate specific playlists I want to play in order/shuffle?

With either the newer or older version of the iPod, is there a way I can designate a specific playlist to play in order or shuffle? I know with iTunes you can specify what playlists you can shuffle and ones that you don't. It's the iPod that I'm interested in finding out. I have several playlists that I want to keep in a particular order and there are others that I can shuffle them. Is it a "all or nothing" arrangement?

It's two completely different actions, so one is not "better" than the other.
There is no Shuffle on/off on the main menu.
This simply plays all songs in random order.
Nothing else will be shuffled if you play it.
It you want to listen to all the songs on the iPod without them being shuffled, press Play.
If you want to shuffle aything else, you must go to Settings -> Shuffle - Songs (or album).
This way I'll have my playlists back in order when I remove the shuffle feature.
The playlists do not get "out of order". The songs are simply played in a random order. If you turn shuffle on and view the playlist, it will be in the exact same order as with shuffle being turned off.

  • Can I designate what specific playlists I want to play in order or shuffle?

With either the newer or older version of iTunes, is there a way I can designate a specific playlist to play in order or shuffle? I have specific playlists that I want to play in a particular order. I also others that I wouldn't mind shuffling them. From what I've seen, it's an "all or nothing" arrangement.

Do I turn-on/turn-off the shuffle on the PC (iTunes) or on the iPod itself.
It depends on which you're listening to. The shuffle settings are completely independent of each other.
Now, if you're talking about an iPod, then I don't believe there's any way to have some playlists shuffle and others not. To the best of my knowledge, shuffle is for the entire iPod. But you may want to ask about that in the appropriate iPod forum; it may be different for different models of iPods, or someone may know of a workaround.
How do I keep the play order intact for those that I don't want to shuffle?
For iTunes, just don't set the playlist for shuffle. For an iPod, see above.

  • How can I gift a playlist, with the songs in the order I choose?

How can I gift a playlist, with the songs in the order I choose, to a bunch of other people? Since iTunes won't allow me to burn a song more than a few times to disc, and I have to share playlists with my cover band (so we can learn songs), I need the capability to do this.

Drag them from where? I've tried to drag them from windows explorer and it won't allow me. It seems the only place I can drag files from is from the iTunes library list. The problem is there is no way that I can find to just see the songs from a specific folder on my drive in the iTunes library list. It sorts them by artist, album, genre, etc....but not by folder.

  • Please help: My iPOD just runs through the playlist. Doesn't play anything.

My iPOD just runs through the playlist. Doesn't play anything. The songs do exist physically on the device.
I tried updating the iPOD but still the problem was not solved.
Is there any way by which I can play the songs without downloading them again on iPOD?
      Windows XP Pro

I just had the same exact problem. It's like the Nano was forwarding thru the songs by itself..nothing would play!
So I went and looked at the manual, which suggested I try resetting it first. I did, and it worked! Here's what I did:
The manual instructed me to turn the "hold" switch on & off. Then it said to hold down the Menu and center button at the same time, until the Apple logo appeared. Then in a few moments the main screen came back on...and I was able to play songs again.
Hope this works for you, good luck!

  • I had to restore my iPod and now none of the songs want to play.

I had to restore my iPod and now none of the songs want to play. I press play, it goes to the song screen, then around 5 seconds pass without the song starting and then it skips to the next song where the same thing happens. And that just keeps happening over and over and over again. Also when I plug in the iPod, the pinwheel shows up on iTunes for a while and then the 13010 error message pops up but the iPod still shows up in iTunes. I'm so lost. Please help!

Turn on iTunes Sound Check, which you can do by going to Edit > Preferences > Playback and checking the box.
Let us know if that does the trick.  If by any chance it does not, use the 3rd party program iVolume.

  • Why won't my ipod touch sync all my playlists (like 25 top played or recently added)?

I have tried to sync my iPod and it won't sync all of the playlists.  For example it won't sync the 25 most played or the recently added, it won't add any of the playlists that iTunes makes.  The playlists are still in my itunes library but they do not show up on my iPod.  Even the purchased playlist is letting me delete or edit the list but it never has before.

Do you have any restirctions set on your ipod in Settings/General/Restrictions/ ->App Installation?

  • Why does my iPhone 3G/iPod repeat the same song over?  I can't get any playlists or albums to play...

Why does my iPhone 3G/iPod just play the same song over and over?  I cannot figure out how to get it to shuffle or play through an album or playlist...  It just started doing this randomly and it's very frustrating!

You have probably Repeat turned on.  See the top of p. 77 of the User Guide.

  • Why can i only select playlists from iTunes to play with my slideshows?

You might just have to fiddle around with the window and the dimple.

  • If I set up the ICloud, does that mean that all of my songs will be stored in Icloud? can I delete the library from my PC and only choose what playlists I want on PC?

If I set up the ICloud, does that mean that all of my songs will be stored in Icloud? can I delete the library from my PC and only choose what playlists I want on PC?

    Thank you
    I realize they are separate
I will do music match so that all of my songs are in ICloud
Do I need to keep the library on my PC or can I download whatever playlists I want stored on the device at that time.
Example: I have almost 1G of Christmas Music - because it is on my PC in my llibrary they sync to my ipod touch every time - i really want those stored somewhere else so they do not sync [or take space on my pc] with exception to one month per year.
I am thinking I can create space on my PC and Touch by storing songs on icloud that i do not listen to regularly; I am also thinking I can request songs by playlist to download to my touch or PC
Is that a clearer question or am I just confusing myself??

  • Help- ipod is full and I can't delete songs/playlist

I need help please. My Ipod is currently full and I can't seem to delete songs/playlist to make more room. My I pod is set to maually update. I can connect my Ipod and higlight the songs/playlist I want to delete and right click and delete. But the Ipod still says I have the same amount of songs on it and the same amout of used MB. The songs/playlist are no longer on my Ipod (I can't play them) but I just don't seem to be making room to add more onto my Ipod. I just seem to be deleting more and more from my Ipod without being able to add more on. Help please???
    Ipod   Windows XP

From what I understand you are deleting the playlists. THe playlist only organizes the songs you have in your library. This will not delete the song from the library. In order to get more space, just click on the small box next to the name of the song (The box will not have a check now). THis way you will have the song on your library but will not be loaded on you ipod.

  • How many iPods can I link on my laptop?

I'm thinking of buying a second iPod and wondered if anyone knew if I'll be able to have two separate music libraries on my laptop?
    Thanks in advance.
    Thomas

You can have as many iPods as you want.
You can have separate libraries for each of them, but there is no reason to do so.
A single iTunes library can sync to multiple iPOds with no trouble at all.
If you want different songs on each iPod, then you can simply make separate playlists for each iPod and tell your iPod to only sync specific playlists. Much easier than having multiple libraries.
