IPod Classic hooked up to auxiliary cable in car

I bought a Prius a month ago and had an iPod hooked up to my stereo through the auxiliary jack and it worked fine. I got a new iPod yesterday and it now makes a humming/buzzing sound. I bought a different cord and it still does the same problem. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the noise? Is this an issue with the car or iPod? Like I said, it worked fine with my older iPod photo.

Why don't you plug your ipod to another device using the auxiliary jack in that device and the same cable? At least you should be able to pinpoint where the problem lies.
For radios, in general, the best option is a good FM transmitter.

Auxiliary cable to car speakers works, but not to headphones

Bought my iPod at Target just before Xmas 2012 (which means no warranty through Apple). Use it to listen to music on my car through an auxiliary cable which works just fine, but I just flew to Vegas for the weekend and it was the first time I used headphones on the iPod. You should stil lhave the Apple 1-year warranty. To verify see:
Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

Ipod classic "cannot play" with jvc kd-hdr50 car stereo?

When I plug my ipod classic 160gb into the usb input on my JVC KD-HDR 50 car stereo I'm getting "cannot play" on the display. This is the first time that I've had this happen. I did reset the ipod and tried a different usb cable but still have the same problem. Can anyone help me with this problem?

I solved the problem using the reset button on my JVC car stereo. Works fine now.

Ipod Classic 3G (40gb) - lost cables, charge universal dock?

I have a 40gb Ipod classic that I lost the cables for during a move, was wondering if the universal dock will charge it, or just allow it to play music.
In other words, will this (http://store.apple.com/ca/product/MB125G/C) charge this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:3Gipod_indock.jpg).
I know this ipod only charges with firewire, which is why I am wondering. If not, whats the next best option?

It only charges via Firewire? Does it not charge when you connect it to your computer to sync with iTunes using a standard dock connector cable?
If you really have a third generation iPod, according to the Dock's specs oulined in the link you provided above, it should work. If you aren't sure what generation iPod yours is, see either of these two links to help figure it out.

IPod classic (20gb) no longer recognised on laptop.

Hi. My iPod classic 20gb is no longer recognised on my laptop and consequently can't download from iTunes etc. I've tried trouble shooting tips with no joy. My origninal cable is not great but still able to charge using it most of the time. I have tried with my iPhone cable but with no response. Does the iPod classic (20gb) need a specific cable? Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem with the same model iPod. At first my laptop would not recognize the device; after a while it also stopped taking a charge at all.
First see that you're using a cable of at least 1 amp output. (Many are only .5a.) Even though my iPod has been repaired (see below), I still have to use the 1a to get it to charge and connect.
If that doesn't fix the connectivity problem, it's probably the same issue as mine - some of the 40-some connector pins in the iPod's port were apparently bent and not making proper contact with the charger pins. (Lesson learned: I'm now very careful to plug it in perfectly straight.) Had to call in the big guns for that one: I found a parts-only, identical model iPod on eBay (ensuring from the seller that the charging port actually worked), had a geek-inclined relative swap out the non-working battery and hard drive for my own, and have had no problems since. That method is iffy and depends on you or a friend being able to mess with it, but it's a lot cheaper than buying a new iPod.
Hope either of these tips help.

A friend recently showed me how to make custom equalizer settings in iTunes and now that I have tweaked a couple things and found what works for me, I want to move that equalizer preset to my iPod. Is this possible? Because I have fiddled around and can't seem to find a way to export that preset to my iPod.

Connect to car, IPOD Classic pauses and will not play

Hello to all,
First of all I am not very good at computer stuff. I used my IPOD Classic for about three months with a car kit and all was fine. All of a sudden it stopped playing. I figured out that the IPOD pauses when it is connected to the wire from the car. I have tried connecting it with the car off, on, radio off, on all with the same result, as soon as the IPOD detects the wire it pauses. My radio will only play the IPOD not control it. Any ideas?? This is driving me mad. I don't understand why it worked for months and then suddenly stopped. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm having the same problem. I updated my ipod in itunes and now my car's usb deck will not recognize the ipod. It had been working for years without a problem. I emailed kenwood and they said apple pushed out an update that is causing compatibility issues with car decks. They suggested a "soft reset" which did nothing. Kenwood told me to contact Apple and Apple wants me to pay for support. Guess I'll surf around this forum till I find a way to revert back to an older version of the ipod software.

How can I get my IPOD Classic to play books using Gracenote?

In the past I have been able to use my IPOD classic to listen to books on my cars using the USB connection. My new Car a (2013 GMC Terrain) will play the book, but I have no control of it if I try to pause it, it will revert back to the radio view and I have replug the unit. Unfortunately, GMC added the Gracenote indexing software to the Intellink, so that it doesn't recognize the books, only songs. Is there a solution for this? No help from Audible or GMC.

On the iPod, create an On-The-Go Playlist.
Navigate to the first Playlist you want to use; press-and-hold the Select (centre) button until the Playlist name flashes. This puts that playlist into the On-The-Go Playlist, which is located at the bottom of the Playlist menu.
Now navigate to the second Playlist you want; press-and-hold the Select button until the Playlist name flashes. This has added the second Playlist to the On-The-Go Playlist.
Repeat for each Playlist you want to add.
Once you have added all the Playlists you want, scroll down to the end of the Playlist to On-The-Go list. If you go into the On-The-Go list, you will see all the songs form your other Playlists, in Playlist order. Simply scroll to the first song and press the Select or Play to start the first song playing.
By the way, there was no missing manual. No manual was supplied.

Annoying how people don't respect other peoples things. My iPod Classic 160Gb has been stolen from my car. Can I register this somehwere to prevent its use or better still wipe it. I do have the SN.

Sorry, but the Classic has no internet capabilities, so there is no way to wipe it. And without Find My iPhone (which requires Wifi or cellular, there is really nothing that you can do to trace it either).
Your only option would be to report it to the police...

I have an iPod classic set up playing music through my cars speakers but haven't updated the music or iTunes software for years.
Will I be able to add music to it now through my iMacs latest iTunes ?

When you connect the iPod to iTunes, there is a Check for Update button on the Device/Summary pane;
If there is an update (unlikely for the iPod Classic) a couple of clicks will do it all for you.
Since you mention the length of time since you last connected the iPod to iTunes, be aware that if you connect the iPod to a different iTunes Librayr to its previous one, a Sync will remove the content from the previous Library. So hopefully, you will be conencting it to that old Library.
It would be a wise move to update iTunes if it's a while since you have done so. On the iTunes menu, use Help/Check for Updates.

IPod Classic, component cables, TV, does not work, help...

I just bought the nifty Apple component cables for my 160GB iPod Classic and it is not sending video properly to my TV. I plug my DVD player component inputs into the TV, it works. I plug the iPod Classic component inputs in and I get sound but a black & white, swirly, barely distinguishable image.... and yes, I have triple checked that the cords are correct, and tried changing them around.
Could someone shed some light on this? I plugged the component cable set directly into the iPod, so its not a dock issue, and I checked that the iPod is set to NTSC...
