IPod completely gone.
I have a 4th generation 20gb iPod. I bought it on the 19th May 2005 the warranty ran out six days ago and this morning it completely went ka-put. It was docked in my speakers and it got jammed so I left it a minute or so to see if it would sort itself out. Nothing happened so I restarted it, the apple logo showed up and then it made a squeaky click sound like it was trying to do something but couldn't and the iPod with the sad face and exclamation mark showed up and told me to go to the support centre online. So I went to the support centre and followed the instructions on this troubleshooting page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61771
My iPod wouldn't go into disk mode so I tried to restore it anyway as instructed, when I plugged it in to the USB port nothing happened it doesn't even show up as a device on the computer. Now looking at my iPod plugged in the USB port the charging logo is on the screen but not doing anything - not moving.
I would be grateful for any help. It's so frustrating that the warranty ran out six days ago. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for your help jeff. I took a look at that thread and found from that, that a lot of people's porblem had been solved my hitting or dropping their iPod. So well I gave it a go by hitting it against my hand and - HEY PRESTO! It worked. I've restored it too.

I've been using my Ipod for over a year now without issue. Today I downloaded some new audio books from Itunes and when I tried to sync up, it would not work and all of the books and music that I had on my Ipod are gone from my Ipod. They still show up in my Itunes library. The only thing I see that is different is that now there is a "cloud" symbol next to my library content. This makes no sense to me. Please help.

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer. -

Hmmm. Are you being completely open with us?
If it was dropped by friend or family, other threads here on this phenomemna indicate slapping it on the back a couple of times with increasing intensity caused the screen to return to normal....but no comment on how long it remained normal. Do a search on this forum for "red screen."
If you can state with certainty that it was not dropped, and if it is still under extended warranty, and if the Apple store believes you, they may give you a rebuilt one. -
Updated itunes today now all music is gone, completely gone
Please help. My daughter and I have been purchasing songs from the i tunes store for years and this morning when we updated it it now says welcome... and all the music is gone, completely gone. I have tried to go back to a previous library but they are very small files. We had GIGS of music! Where did it all go and why does i tunes do this??? My daughter synced her iPod yesterday but with only a couple play lists not the whole library now our years of adding and sorting songs are gone!

If that doesn't work, where do you keep your music files? Is it in the standard location which is the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder, or somewhere else such as an external drive?
You need to check in your music folder to see if your music files are still there. They almost always will be. -
Ipod completely dead and updater error
my ipod is completely gone. I had the folder and exclamation point, and then tried to turn on my ipod. an apple appeared and my ipod screen then went blank. I have tried charging it, updating it and I followed the instructions. My screen is no longer working. I plugged it into the computer where it says "this device can perform faster" (as it usually does) but itunes can't find it, it doesn't show up in my computer, and my screen won't work any more.
You probably have a hardware problem with your iPod. Try turning it on and if you hear several loud clicks (louder than the scroller when played through the iPod speaker), you have a hardware problem. If you hear the noise or can't seem to fix it, you should probably take your iPod in to your local Apple Store.

The books I purchased on my itunes account are completely gone
What can I do? I paid money for those and now they're completely gone. I did have to reboot my iPod awhile back but there is no reason as to why they should be completely gone when I can still access other things I purchased such as videos and music.
If they don't show in the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app for redownloading then have you tried logging out of your account by tapping on your id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the ibookstore and logging out and then logging back in ? I accidentally synced my mum's brand new iPad to my mac book air. A few days later I realised that my iTune library on my mac is completely gone. So is my iPhone 4s after I synced it with my mac. How do I get my old iTunes library back? I tried using icloud on my iphone but it stated that I have never back up my phone before. So I guess my iCloud data is gone too? 1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

I want to sync the songs on my Mac to my iPod, but it says, 'An iPod can only be synced to one iTunes Library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iTunes Library.' Will this reset my iPod completely (my iPod is 4th gen)?
Was your iPod associated with a different mac or pc previously is all. And was it backed up or sync'd on this mac with iTunes previously.

I have an Ipod Nano, I use it everyday..listening to it...putting new songs on in it...all that, I love it, it worked great.
Until..
Yesterday.
I added a large amount of songs to my Itunes library that I wanted to put on my ipod,
but I assumed I would exceed the maximum capacity I could have on my Ipod and Itunes told me it would create some playlist and it would selectively choose songs to update on to my ipod?
I didn't really understand that...but I ended up deleting that playlist..and all my songs on my ipod were gone.
So, with an empty ipod, I thought I could easily just put my songs back on...but I'm getting all these error messages from Itunes such as
"cannot be updated, disk could not be read or written to"
and "songs on the ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists no longer exist".
I checked for updates.
I reinstalled Itunes...and I thought by doing that I'd have a brand new itunes but it seems like I still have the same one with the same preferences.
There shouldn't be anything seriously wrong, cuz It was working just fine a few days ago...at least I hope not!
Anyways...I don't know what to do. And it's frustrating!
I'd greatly appreciate it if I could get some feedback with advice on what I should do...thank you!

What IOS and OS are you using Elissa. I think from your post it used to work but has dropped off, is that correct or has it never worked? If it did wotk has anything changed? Check your wifi use with sopmething like istumbler to see if it is being used by neighbours etc?

Your work will still be there, you just have to go through Updating your older pre 10.1. stuff to the new Library model way of doing things.
Follow Tom's suggestions to the letter and things should go smoothly.
