Ipod erases songs

I have an 80g ipod classic and i will plug it into the computer, where it will delete all music off of my ipod. I will not tell it to restore, but it erases all my music. Then, when i plug it in to re-sync it, it tells me i need to restore my music. Is there any way to plug my ipod in without it deleting my music?

Is all your music on your computer?

if anyone happens to know why an iPod shuffle would erase the songs off of it every time it plugs into the computer, can you let me know? It's really annoying me. It's probably just a setting I'm missing, but I'm unable to check right now. Thanks a lot.

    Hi latriste,
I had the same problem when I thought I could delete songs from my hard drive and connect my shuffle (with those songs still on it). When I did connect my shuffle, it updated itself, and the songs I didn't have on my HD were deleted from my shuffle.
Apparently, a shuffle is different from the other ipods because you can't set it to 'manually update' itself.
Here is my recent thread where I asked a similar question:

In short, with a shuffle, you need to keep all your music on your computer for it to stay on your ipod.

  • IPod erases songs after ejected?

Hi, I hope someone can help me with my problem.
Last night I tried putting a few more songs on my iPod 5th Gen. It stopped copying and iTunes didn't see my iPod anymore. I disconnected it, and tried plugged it back in via USB. All of my songs were erased, including pictures and videos. iTunes wasn't seeing my iPod and Windows was giving an error, so I tried to restore it the first time and it gave a Delayed Write message. Very frustrated now, I restarted, plugged in my iPod and it restored perfectly. Then I tried putting songs on it and I had all my songs back on, ready to go. I ejected the iPod and all of my songs and videos were erased, but my pictures were still there. Now I'm getting a folder with an exclamation, and I've tried all of the suggestions on the Support page.
My iPod is just a little over a month old and it's frustrating to see something I spent a lot of money on not working.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
    Thanks,
    Matt

I had just figured out how to fix this problem, believe it or not!
First exit out of iPod Updater and iTunes.
Get into Windows Task Manager, click Processes tab.
The iPodService.exe, iTunesHelper.exe must be messing around with the iPod. End those processes and any other that has to do with your iPod or iTunes, and keep your iPod connected while you do this. Then run the iPod updater and it should work if you want to restore.
    That fixed my problem!
I hope Apple does something about this in a new version of iPod Updater so people (like me) aren't freaking out that their iPod is messed up.
I'm just babying my iPod, so after each album I'm ejected just to make sure everythings alright. But everything seems to be working Aye-Okay!

  • Ipod erases songs after I eject

So I'd say 1 out of about every 5 times I eject my ipod from Itunes, and disconnect it from my computer (AFTER the "Do Not Disconnect" screen has gone away), all of my songs and videos have been erased. When I try to plug it back in to my computer, itunes won't recognize my ipod, and asks me to restore my ipod to default settings, and to update the software. I downloaded the updater, and updated and restored my ipod, but the same thing continues to occur.
I couldn't find an answer in the FAQ's. Should I send it in to be serviced since it's covered under warranty? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok after I restored it, everything has been working ok, but this has happened before so, I'm still skeptical.
What doesn't make sense is that I had a 30gb Ipod Video before, and never had any problems like this with it. Now I have a 60gb Ipod Video, and I keep having this problem. If this drive letter thing is the issue, why didn't it happen with my 30gb?
Also, one thing I've noticed happen when I change my ipod settings from automatic update to manual, it gives me an error message saying "An error has occured while updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access priveleges for this operation".

  • IPod erased songs and further problems

I have an iPod (20 GB Click Wheel) that I got Christmas 2004. I know it's getting old, but I've never had any problems with it until recently.
About 2 years ago I got an iPod connecter for my car and in my glove box my iPod has remained 90% of the time. About 2 months ago I was play the iPod through my head unit when the song stopped playing and it started flashing through song titles very quickly. I switched to the CD and unplugged the iPod, turned it off, and then tried again. It continued to flash through the songs and would not stop and play any song. Well, I finally just took the iPod out and left it in my room. About a week ago I decided to check up on it and all of the songs were gone. So today I plugged it into my computer and iTunes suggested a restore because it is corrupted. The restore was successful and I put the iPod in and it started downloading all of my songs from iTunes. Well it after a couple of minutes my macbook flashes an error that a device was removed and there could be damage done. I went ahead and unplugged the iPod from the macbook since it was already ejected on its own and now the screen is frozen and I can't turn it off.
Is my iPod done for? Thanks for any help.

This article will help you get the iPod restored, which, hopefully, will address the syncing issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275?viewlocale=en_US

  • My iPod shuffle erases songs when I plugg it back into my computer after I erase the songs I just put in it?

My iPod shuffle erases songs when I plugg it back into my computer after I erase the songs I just put in it?

That's how it is supposed to work.  The library on your Shuffle is set to mirror your iTunes library on your PC or Mac.  So if you add some music and configure to sync to the Shuffle, removing it from iTunes, would also remove it from your Shuffle.
The only way to avoid this is to set up the Shuffle for manual management. See the appropriate section in this Apple support document on how to manually manage your iPod's contents.

  • Ipod Loads songs or videos slow

    Hello,
I have an 80 gb ipod and recently when i try to play a song it will load very slow, and temporarily freeze although i can feel the drive in the ipod working. It is like its working hard to find the song that is being played. It usually takes over a minute to begin playing. In between that minute i cannot move to another song or pause it or anything. I'll reset it, and it will be fine for about 3 or 4 songs then it will start doing it again. Anybody have this same problem? I have never experienced it as long as i have had the ipod... it usually goes from song to song quite smoothly. Any suggestions on what i should do?

my ipod has the exact problem, it's a video ipod. I turn it on and for a couple minutes it works fine. Then I pick a song, and it freezes and two minutes later it plays. And then the ipod slows down completely. If I restart it, it works for a couple minutes. I have restored it. It hasn't helped at all. Until recently, itunes wouldn't sync it and kept erasing songs on it. But I fixed that. I have no idea why the ipod is so slow

  • How do I erase songs

How do I erase songs from my ipod without erasing from my library?
My son had an ipod which was stolen recently, the problem is the library has stored all his data onto my new ipod. Obviously I dont want to erase his songs but I dont want his songs on my ipod either, so I wondered if there is a way to erase his songs from my ipod but not from the library?
    Hope this makes sense
    Thanks

There are several methods of deleting songs from the iPod and/or iTunes, and the method you choose depends on the settings you have selected for your iPod.
If you have the iPod set to automatically transfer songs, and you no longer want a copy of those songs on either the iPod or in iTunes, simply delete the songs in iTunes. Highlight the songs you no longer want then right click and select "clear", or from the edit menu select "clear". Next time you connect the iPod, the songs will be deleted from there also.
Only do this if you no longer want the songs on both the iPod and your computer.
You can also use the "only update checked songs" method in the iPod options (right click on the iPod in the source list in iTunes and select options, then select "only update checked songs"). With this preference checked, you can remove the check mark from the songs in iTunes that you no longer want on the iPod. The next time you connect the iPod, those unchecked songs will be removed from the iPod whilst still being retained in iTunes. You can check and uncheck songs as you change your mind about what songs you want to put on the iPod.
If you have the iPod set to manually manage your songs, and you want to delete the song from the iPod only, then select the iPod in the source list of iTunes. Highlight the song(s) you no longer want on the iPod, right click and select "clear", or use the edit menu as previously mentioned.
This method only deletes the songs from the iPod, so if you no longer want the song in iTunes also, you'll need to delete it from there separately using the method above.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, these settings can be found in the summary screen.
If you want to delete everything from the iPod and completely erase the hard drive and start from scratch, then you can restore the iPod to factory settings.
Only do this if you have the songs in your iTunes library, or a back up somewhere other than the iPod itself.

  • I have a classic iPod with songs that were put on it from a different computer. If I plug it up to my computer, will it keep the songs that were originally on it from the previous computer AND allow me to put new songs on it from my computer?

I have a classic iPod with songs that were put on it from a different computer. If I plug it up to my computer, will it keep the songs that were originally on it from the previous computer AND allow me to put new songs on it from my computer?

No.  Your iPod is designed to sync with one computer/iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, the contents currently on the iPod will be erased and replaced with content from the new library.  So you'll want to copy what is currently on the iPod over to your new iTunes library first before syncing it.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • I am trying to sync my itunes with my ipod, but when I get to step 3 of syncing, it stops. Also, I deleted all the songs on my ipod, and when I go to my music in my ipod the songs are all still there and in a grey color and I'm not able to select them.

Also, I deleted all the songs on my ipod, and when I go to my music in my ipod the songs are all still there and in a grey color and I'm not able to select them. How do I completely clear my ipod music, and how can I solve the syncing problem?

Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer.

  • Ipod shuffles song order when syncing

ive noticed ever since i downloaded the newest version of itunes (itunes 10.2.1.1) that every time i sync the ipod with my computer, it will screw up the order of the tracks of the artist i most recently listened to ONLY on my ipod. the song order remain correct on itunes. but when i sync it again without having edited anything, it will restore it to original, or even some times mess up the order further. anyone else having this problem or know a fix to it? thanks

My best guess is that you have clicked a column header so it is sorting the tracks by something other than track number.
Try clicking on the column header above the track numbers and see if that fixes it.
