Ipod firmware - download won't Resume

Hi.
I have tried numerous times to download the new Ipod Touch firmware using my dial-up connection. As the firmware is over 200MB I have to Stop/Resume my Internet connection a few times (my dial-up has a 10hr limit). Unfortunately, after downloading around 65MB I had to restart the Internet connection again only to find iTunes Resume function not wqrking. On looking for the partial download file it had been deleted. I tried again using only a small download (128K), Stopped, then Resumed. Same thing. Is iTunes Resume function broken?
I have tried the new iTunes and the previous v8. Same on both. All other areas of iTunes are working well.
Using Windows XP Pro.
Thanks, in anticipation.
Maurie.

You might call your satellite provider and ask them for tips. Dial-up service have a download manager that will keep modems from timing out during long downloads. Maybe the satellite thing has something similar.
Or else, if you know someone who doesn't have a limit on their web connection, you could download the update from their PC and move it yours later.

  • Download Won't Resume

I paid for the iPod 2.0 Update the 9.99$ one and I started downloading the file. A few minutes later I had a message saying windows updates needed to be installed, so I paused the download and restarted my computer. When I started it back up though, my download isn't listed. I can't finish downloading it, it doesn't even show what I had already started downloading. There is no Downloading section only iTunes Store and Purchased and there's nothing under purchased. Does anyone know how I can resume the download?
    Thanks,
    -Taylor

That's good, you reported it. Don't buy it again - you might get charged twice, and that is just another thing to hassle with.

  • I have an older ipod, and it won't let me download apps. It says my iPod isn't compatible?

I have an older ipod, and it won't let me download apps. It says my iPod isn't compatible? Then when i plug my iPod onto iTunes it says it's fully updated.

You don't say which version of iPod you have but apparently it's fully updated to it's capability yet not to the level that newer iPods can go.  Some apps do require the latest IOS level.

The iPod sees the new computer as a new iTunes library. You can only sync with one iTunes library.  However, you can manage music among disfferent computers.  See:

  • Xcode download is paused in MAS and won't resume

I have started downloading Xcode on Yosemite on my iMac. the download paused at some point and now it won't resume. no matter how many times i press resume the download remains unresponsive.. funny thing is that i can download other apps. Anyone?

    Hi Tenebreux,
I encountered the same problem and after some search, I found one way to stop downloading and restart again:
    Go to Appstore -> Purchases
Press 'Option' when you hover over the 'Resume' button, you will have the 'Cancel' button showing, click on it.
Then you will find that the ongoing process is dropped.
Click on 'Install' and a new download starts.
Give it a try and I hope this works for you too.

First try a hard reset.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If still no luck, try downloading another free app from the App Store.

Lastly, try to restore the iPod from a previous backup or restoring it to factory settings.

  • My iPod 5th generation won't turn on and my middle button doesn't work

My ipod 5th generation won't turn on and my middle button doesn't work! What will I do? It all starmed when I updated iOS 8. It would be fine but would shut down at random, now it won't turn on at all!!! when I press the lock button to turn it on the Apple sign would come up for about 5/10 minutes!! so what will I do???

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Ignore the reset and when it says place the iPod in recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I forgot my password and am trying to reset my ipod, but it won't work.It says that my ipod is in recovery mode and that I must restore it. I click ok, and then click on restore and update. Then it says connecting ipod software update server and a screen pops up with ipod software update on the top and iOS 5.1. It lists a bunch of stuff this update contains and on the bottom it says next, which I click and nothing happens, it just goes back to the ipod restore page. Help, what am I doing wrong?

Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • IPod touch 5g won't charge/turn on?

I just got a brand new iPod touch 5g this month for my birthday. I've had it for a little over a week and it has been working perfectly. I went on a trip to Kansas City this weekend, and used my ipod during the ride up there. It drained the battery substantially, and it must have died. When I got home to charge it, I plugged it into my computer and waited for iTunes to recognize the device, but it won't. When I try to do anything on the iPod, this image appears:
and then it vanishes after a few seconds.
When I go to turn the iPod on, it won't. And now it won't charge and the above image is the only thing that appears when I try to do anything. I've tried plugging it in and waiting for periods of time, but that didn't work. I've tried restoring it, but whenever iTunes downloads "iTunes Software Update" I get an error message when it's finished downloading.
What is wrong with the iPod? Is the battery defective? Is there a way I can fix this at home or do I have to take it in to Apple? Or is there a simple solution to this that I'm missing?
    Thanks in advance.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

hi, i had to restore my ipod 5G and it says its in recovery mode and its saying ipod software downloading but when its done it says it timed out i tried like 5 times what should i do

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer

  • Interruption of iPod software downloading in iTunes

    Hi,
iTunes propose a software update for my iPod touch
The download begin but interrupt shortly, error 9006 (network error),
don't know why, others downloads work perfectly, occurs only with Apple servers,
same problem with automatic software updating of MacOs X,
but I usually solve the problem using iGetter and installing manually the package.
That is not possible for iTunes, as I don't know how to make manually the updating of iPod software.
    A solution ?
    Thanks for your help ?

    Hi There,
I had the same problem, however fortunately there is a solution. There is a way of downloading the iPod Touch software manually. Below is a link to a website that contains all the iPod software packages. All you need to do is download the required piece of software (which is currently 4.1) then when in iTunes. Hold down the shift key and click restore or update in iTunes where you iPod Touch is displayed, this will display a windows which will ask you to locate the package, locate it to the directory you saved the download and click ok, this will then extract and install the software package update to your iPod Touch.
