Check and make sure that you don't have an alarm set that's causing it to come on and play until the battery is dead.

  • My iPhone 3GS battery loses at least 30% charge when off for at least an hour

My iPhone 3GS battery loses at least 30% charge when off for at least an hour, I took it in to an apple retail store at the end of 2010 and they told me it was fine but advised I restore and set up as a new iPhone which I did, it got better for about a month then went back to normal losing battery. I have no hardware coverage left and my specs are: iPhone 3GS 16gb  IOS 4.3.3 white. I have had it since December 2009.

I'm afraid I don't. I don't know if the phone is still within warranty. I don't know which country you are in. I don't know what third party repair companies charge where you are.
Hang on - I do know one thing: if your phone is still covered by warranty - it's free!

  • IPod USB charging when iBook/Powerbook is sleeping

    Hello all.
We've got two iPods (a 5G and a 4G) and two portable Macs (PowerBook and iBook).
Here's the issue: when our computers are sleeping (ie. the lids are closed), but also plugged into the wall, we could charge our old 4G iPods using the FireWire cables.
Now that one of us has upgraded to a 5G (which doesn't sync through FireWire), and the other has switched to using the USB cable to sync/charge, we've noticed that the iPods don't charge through USB when the computers are asleep but plugged in.
Is this the experience that other iPod/Mac users are having? Is there a way to force the iPods to charge when the computers are sleeping AND powered, or do iBooks and Powerbooks need to be awake to charge an iPod through USB?
I understand why a sleeping iBook or Powerbook that's NOT plugged in wouldn't charge an iPod -- it doesn't with FireWire, after all. But a computer that IS plugged in? How inconvenient if I had to open my computer every time I'm trying to charge up the iPod!
    Please advise. Thanks.

Powering a device through the USB bus requires that the CPU on the host machine be active in order to arbitrate power for different devices and warn the operator if a device is drawing too much power from the bus. Since the CPU doesn't do anything while the computer is asleep, devices cannot be powered while the host is asleep. Power used by FireWire devices is drawn directly from the power supply and doesn't need any information from the CPU while the computer is plugged in. When on battery power, FireWire ports are shut off while the computer is asleep to save battery time.

  • What does that mean when your iPod only charges when you battery dies? (meaning: when my battery isn't dead it wont charge but when the battery is dead thats the only time it will charge)

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • Does my ipod touch charge when turned off!

Hi guys i got my 16g ipod touch in the uk after work tonight. A quick question, when connected to the computer does it continue to charge when i turn the power off on the touch? As nothing indicates on the screen that it is charging and it also disappears from itunes. cheers

Yeah I was wondering the same thing since my ipod for some reasons seems to charge really slowly. I'm about to burn my one support call and might end up sending it back as a defect. I've charged it while using my computer (so obviously it wasn't asleep), and it would creep up very slowly. Then I let it charge overnight on my laptop (8 hours) and it would go like 25% from about 25% battery. I tried recharging it from my iHome ipod dock and it would charge a bit faster, then sort of cap off at about 66-75% battery. I've tried turning sticking it i the iHome and turning it off and seemed to have no effect on the battery. I'm going to try it again tonight having it turned off while attached to my laptop. It will be my last attempt before calling Apple. I am really frustrated.

  • IPod rapidly loses charge when connected to USB 2.0

I just bought a new iPod photo 20g and a new powerbook 1.67 15". When I hook up the new iPod to the firewire it charges but doesn't mount. When I hook up the iPod with the USB cables it rapidly depletes the full charge in the iPod in about 20-30 minutes. Although the charge indicator shows a full charge ( the picture of the plug) as soon as you unplug it is shows a low charge.
I tried several cables, and they all do the same. I tried another powerbook and it acts the same way.
If I hook it up to a PC via firewire I can format it for the PC and it charges and reads fine. But when hooked up to the USB is also shows a full charge but once you unplug it, it shows you its true charge which is empty or close to.
Are the charging curcuits different for Firewire and USB? It should like I have a bad iPod. Any thoughts................

I have also just bought a new 20gig iPod colour, and when in it's dock connected to my high powered USB hub, it fully discharges the battery. However, when connected to the back of my G3 B+W, the battery charges fine...

  • New Ipod Losing Power When Off

I received a brand new 3G 20g Ipod for my birthday in June. I am a new Ipod user and need help in understanding why after I hold the play button or use the sleep option to turn it off the battery still loses power as if the ipod was still on.
Several hours after removing my fully charged ipod from the charger, when I try to turn it on I get the battery ! icon letting me know the battery is completely dead. Is this a known hardware problem or am I doing something wrong?
I've tried everything I can think off. Please help. Thanks in advance

Hi I'm Katie. I have a mini ipod and i got it in January. Yesterday i brought it in to an apple store yesterday because it looses battery like its nothing. We filled out a little paper work and they are keeping at the store for testing for the next 3 days to see if it has a defected battery.Ill go pick it up on wendsday or tuesday. With my story one idea is to bring the ipod to an apple store and talk to them about the problem. If you do have a defected battery they'll give you a new one. But they said only about 10 to 15% of the ipods brought are defected. Hope this info helped you

  • My ipod touch charges when connected to computer but doesnt show in iTunes or My Computer? Please Help

My ipod touch 4th generation was just working fine. now it wont show up in itunes or computer. i have literally tried everything known to man. i unistalled then reinstalled itunes, i tried each USB port on my laptop, i restored my ipod to its original settings, i tried 2 different cords and each time nothing changed. my ipod charges when its connected to itunes so i have no idea what it could be. somebody please help.

  • IPod only charges when connect to the Mac

My iPod will only charge when connected to the Mac.  It will not charge on any other cable or docking station.  And, yes, I have tested the various cables and docking stations with other devices and the issue is clearly only with this one device.  I am note sure what generation the device is, but it is old enough that it cannot run iOS 7.  It is on iOS 6.1.5.
    Thanks

Then it seems that the other sources do not work satisfactorily. Do the other charging sources charge other devices?

  • Ipad not syncing, only charges when off

Disclamers: I use the larger original usb plug to charge (not a small iphone brick or my laptop). And a car adapter that is rated for iPad. There is no water damage. It was dropped a long time ago but has worked without problem before and since.
Last week my iPad (1st Gen) stopped charging when I plugged it in. Nor is it recognised by iTunes when I plug it into my macbook pro. Here are the steps I've taken.
    1. Turned it off and on like this:
"Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the  Apple logo appears."
    No help.
    2. Then I reset it like this (multiple times):
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    No help.
    3. Turned it off and plugged in the cord and it came on. Confirming that the cable is recognised by the device (hardware anyway). But when the lock screen appeared there was no lightening bolt in the battery confirming that it was not charging.
    4. Plugged in and turned it off and left it for a while. When I turned it back on by holding the Sleep/Wake button I had 5% more charge than when I started. I did the same thing last night (all night) and got it up to an 80% charge.
    5. This morning I did all of the above again with no luck so I went into Settings-> General-> Reset and "Reset All Settings" when it restarted it still did not show it was charging. So I did a reset again. No help.
    6. I then went back and did an "Erase All Content and Settings." with the same result.
    7. Updated Lion to 10.7.4 and iTunes to 10.6.1 (7). But it is still not recognised.
So now, for all my troubleshooting effort I have an iPad with no info on it and no way to sync it.
Can anyone see something else that I might try?

For what it's worth, I have the same problem. It started a few days ago while on a trip.
Now, charging is very slow (without the lightning bolt or even with a "Not Charging" message over/near the battery icon, tried three cables which all work with iPhone and 2 chargers + the computer), iTunes doesn't recognize the usb connection (I tried three cables which all work with my iPhone) but wifi sync works.
I went through almost the same steps as you without luck.
    Regards

  • Ipod wont charge when connected by USB

My ipod doesn't charge when i connect via USB but will charge on Firewire..?? is this normal??

My ipod doesn't charge when i connect via USB but

I assume that you are referring to the ipod being plugged into your Mac when charging. The Mac cannot be in "sleep" mode if you want to charge the ipod by plugging into USB. However the Mac can be in "sleep" if you plug into the Firewire port. The reason is that the FireWire port is powered while the USB is not when the Mac is asleep.
BTW you can charge via the USB 1 and not just USB 2. I have a 4G ipod that will charge when connect to my older iBook (2002 model) that only has USB 1.
