Ipod music, etc transfer back to computer itunes

Old laptop and all back-up lost. Have only ipod. Would like to put all music and other from ipod on to new computer. Can it be done without any loss of data? What is the easy way? Help much appriciated.
Thanks!

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

I do not want itunes match to  sync  or upload the little bit of purchased music i have on my itunes now..Please Help Thanks..

    Hello gogreenj14,
If you had iTunes Match updated with all of your non iTunes purchased content already, then yes, when you enable iTunes Match with the following article it will have all the content that has been uploaded to iTunes Match will be available for download.
iTunes: How to add a computer or iOS device to iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4913
Open the latest version of iTunes on the computer you intend to add. You can download the latest version of iTunes here.
Sign in with the Apple ID you use with iTunes Match.
Choose Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
Click the Add This Computer button.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID password.
iTunes will automatically begin scanning your computer's library for matches.
A status indicator will allow you to track progress. You may also manually pause and resume the process at any time by clicking the Stop or Start button.
Once iTunes has completed matching and uploading your iTunes library, your music in iCloud will be integrated into your local music library. A download button will appear to the right of any content that you have in iCloud that doesn't already exist on your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • IPod Will not Transfer all Songs to iTunes

The iPod would only transfer some songs to iTunes when I pressed the tranfer purchases button. I lost alot of songs that I can't get back. This is very frustrating!!! Any help?

so then technically I can't transfer the songs off my ipod to my itunes library?  since it is one 1 transfer from pc to ipod...correct?  So when I synch my ipod the warning screen comes up and says "there are content not in the library, erase and synch library to Itunes, only purchased songs can transfer."   Can I leave the songs on my ipod and when I purchase new songs to itunes I can still transfer those correct?  while having the others on there that wont transfer?

  • Computer crashed had to reinstall windows how do i get my music off iphone back on to itunes

after reinstalling windows obviously itunes is empty and my songs are on iphone. any surgestions?

The 5 authorized COMPUTERS has NOTHING to do with ipods.
Itunes will allow up to 5 computers to be authorized to play pre-itunes+ music. When you reach the limit of 5 COMPUTERS, then you can de-authorize them all, then authorize the active ones again.
You can sync as many ipods as you like to a computer.
In the future, it is a good idea to de-authorize before re-installing your os or getting rid of a computer.

  • New IPOD Shuffle and I can't hear my music I transfer from my computer

I transfer music on my Ipod shuffle. The light is green showing it have been charged up, but I am not hearing the music I see that the music were transfered from my computer to my IPOD. I am using the MP3 files. I press the volumne up button and still not hearing anything. I can see the files has been transfers to my IPOD. Please, can someone help me to hear my music.

Okay, that was the easy one. It is possible that you got a dud. However, I would go through the standard trouble shooting steps before returning it:

  • Ipod music wiped..... itunes libary also not working and missing files.....

    hi,
my cousin, is having a problem.
all she can tell me is, she plugged her new ipod into pc....and she got some message saying "restore"......she clicked yes........
and now.... her ipod is cleaned out.....no music in it......she had thousands of songs in it......
also..... her itunes library in itunes on her pc...... when she clicks a song, it says unable to locate file.... so no music is playing in itunes.
i think she says most of the music is also wiped from her itunes library.
she checked her itunes location, in my documents etc... and the folder is empty she said.......
although thousands of songs were on her ipod only, and not on her itunes, as she put songs on from her mates libraries, and also her computer died recently and she lost her old library....
    sounds bad right?
system restore on windows xp wont help with it?
ive got her to shut down and reset ipod..... and still..... nothing in there.....
any ideas what shes done? or is anything recoverable?
random crash? or her own fault?
    cheers

I think you've misunderstood. What I mean was to drag a track from iTunes into a folder that is on your desktop as opposed to dragging directly to the desktop.
In any case, I guess you can try deleting your preferences from ~/Library/Preferences to see if that helps. There are three of them…
    com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
    com.apple.iTunes.plist
    com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
I would just drag them to your desktop so you can always put them back if it doesn't work. Saves having to redo your settings. Oh yes, don't foget to quit iTunes before moving/deleting/replacing anything.

  • Ipod does not transfer all songs from itunes

I have the 80g ipod classic. I have 16,000 songs on itunes. when i go to setting on ipod and go to about it shows that i am missing 13 songs. for a while i was missing 5 songs then 9 songs and now 13.yes i still have room on my ipod for music. I do not have a clue what songs are not being transferred to my ipod. what is causing this and what is the solution.

yea i guess that could be possable. i guess with 16,000 songs and only 13 did not transfer to ipod i should be happy but this is mac not windows so i would like to think the soft ware would work without flaws.. as for all my dupes i put over 1500 cds in my itunes library. a lot of the cds were various artists etc. that is y i have so many dupes. my imac has a 500g hard drive so i have plenty of space left on my hard drive. i have 2 external hard drives where my music is backed up.i have a 1terrabit lacie that i just use for time machine and a 500g lacie to back up my music and other stuff. iwould never trust my music to be backed up on only 1 external hard drive. if it died my music would be gone forever. thats y i use 2 external hard drives

  • Transfer Cd from computer (itunes) to iPad EASILY

I have downloaded cd into computer - itunes. USB cable connect to iPad. Try to 'drag and drop' music/audio book cd info but it will not allow transfer. WHY? and am I ever able to transfer talking book/cd from computer to my iPad?

When your ipad is connected, look over on the left side of the itunes window and you'll see it listed there. Click on its name and you'll see the main part of the window change to show info about the ipad and a bunch of tabs along the top. Click the music tab and then you can set what you want to sync from your itunes library. There's no drag and drop for stuff already in itunes. Just check off the songs you want. (Note that your CD must be imported to itunes, not merely opened in itunes.)
For audio books, if the book is on CD, it may appear in the music section of your library, in which case, proceed as above. Or, if itunes can tell it's an audiobook CD, it will appear under the books tab. There's a separate section for audiobooks way down at the bottom of the window, below the area for ebooks.

  • My iPod touch will not back up to iTunes.

I just got an iPhone 4, and I'm trying to get the data from my iPod touch onto it. For some reason, even though I've synced it many times over the year I had it, my iPod never got backed up to iTunes even though I told it to back up to computer. Is there something I'm missing?

    1. Yes, there are no backups there or in the directory that is supposed to store them . Also, iTunes says "Last time backed up: Unknown".
    2. No, I've been using this same user since I got the iPod. I logged in as a different user a few times but didn't open iTunes. The other user also does not have any device backups, nor has it synced with the iPod at all.

  • Is your iPod music list empty or blank in iTunes? Read inside.

I had a problem that at least a few other people on this board have complained about, and never could find a satisfactory answer on these forums and elsewhere. The full problem is as follows:
    1. you plug your iPod in.
    2. iTunes pops up
    3. Under Devices->Music where the iPod icon is, the music list/library is blank or empty, even though you can access everything with no problem on the iPod itself.
    4. Plugging iPod into other computers with iTunes has the same problem.
Here's a way to solve it without the extreme system-restore your-iPod-and-copy-everything-back-over "solution" (and I can't use those quotation marks sarcastically enough).
    1. Close iTunes.
    2. Open Windows Explorer.
    3. Browse to whatever drive your iPod has been assigned.
    4. Make sure "view hidden files" is checked in explorer, and browse to the hidden folder "X:\iPod_Control\iTunes" where X is the drive letter assigned to your iPod.
    5. There you will see files called things like, "iTunesControl", "iTunesDB", "Temp File" and similar. In the "X:\iPod_Control\iTunes" create a directory called "oldITunesFiles" and drag the entire contents of the directory into the folder.*
    6. Open iTunes. Volia! Itunes will rebuild your iTunesDB file and your music list will no longer be blank. Why wasn't this refresh functionality built into iTunes again?
    * if something goes wrong, take the whole contents of the oldITunesFiles folder and put it back in X:\iPod_Control\iTunes.
I hope this helps somebody, I tore out my hair trying to figure this out for a month.

HI. Yeah I had the same problem as you along with some others such as the ipod constantly disconnecting during upload. Unfortunately I live in the UK where we get ripped off on every type of consumer good and my Belkin card cost me £40 ($60-65).
I have 8 'onboard USBs' and my ipod wouldn't work with any of them! Very annoying but now, like you, I have a fully functional ipod and loving it.

  • My ipod isn't recognized by any computer & itunes, and desplays a sad face.

i have had my ipod mini for eleven months and this is the first problem i have had with it.
i went on a vacation to flordia, and while i was there my ipod crashed. i had dropped it once a few days before the crash, but it continued to play my music after i dropped it.
when i go to turn it on the apple logo appears, then the depressed ipod.
my ipod isn't recognized by any computer or tunes. when i plug it into my computer, the 'do not disconnect' screen doesn't even appear. all that happens is the apple logo screen, then the depressed ipod screen, then a recharging screen appears that is stuck on the lowest point possible.
i have already tried the "five R's" and everything else in the support pages, and so far they have helped me none. all they do is bring you around in huge circles, and you end up on the page you started on.
i run a windows xp, and have everything fully upgraded.
i know, i know, many of you are having similar problems, but could you please only post if you have an answer, thanks.

      Windows XP

I know!!! It worked just fine one day, computer recognized it and i could add or remove songs at me leisure, but now I can't even charge it on a computer becasue it doesn't exsist to it. I also tried the five steps, but you can't restore the settings on it if the computer can't find it. Finally I had my sister bending the charge piece in the ipod just for it to show up, I restored it and it didn't make a bit of difference! I lost all 800 songs on it but I still can't charge it or add songs. If you find anything out, let me know!!!

  • How do I get my ipod items to go back into my itunes library? When i sync it says if you sync you will erase the contents of my ipod.

My Ipod 60gb has 2600+ Items on it. For some reason my Itunes Library only has 1500+. When I try to sync my Ipod to add new songs it says
if you sync you will erase the contants of your Ipod. Help

Your iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time.  If you try to sync it with another library, it will erase the current contents of the iPod and replace them with the contents from the new library.
If you have content you need to copy from your iPod back to your iTunes library, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer discussing the different ways to do this.

  • My ipod touch will not back up with itunes and allow me to update to newest software

I am having trouble getting my ipod touch to back up with itunes and allowing me to update to newest suftware.  It has been backing up for over 3 days and the status bar has not moved.

Terminate the backup. Close iTunes and disconnect the iPod. Reboot the iPod. Reset the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

  • My 4th Generation iPod Touch Will Not Back-Up On iTunes

My iPod Touch will not back up. I have the newest version of iTunes and my iPod Touch is running iOS 6 and sometimes it won't sync or even be recongnized as a device. iTunes says my last back up was on August 27th, and I've synced it multiple times since then. It is critical that I find a solution soon, because if the last backup was on the 27th, that means the software backed up is 5.1.1, and I'm selling my current iPod on eBay and it ships next week as I await the new iPod Touch and I need to restore from that backup! I cannot start as a new iPod Touch. Any solutions?
