IPod nano software + windows 7

Recently I got a new laptop which has windows 7 on it. When I installed iTunes on it, it worked fine but then when I installed the software to connect my first generation iPod nano to my computer I started having problems.
After installation when I open iTunes a message comes up saying "Software required for communicating with iPods not installed correctly. Do you want to repair iTunes?"
After it does the repair iTunes will open but when I connect my iPod another message saying "Software required for communicating with iPod not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPods software."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and the software countless times and it still doesn't work. I have also gone back and made sure all parts of iTunes such as Bonjour were uninstalled as well. Nothing seems to work. Recently I also reinstalled iTunes and my iPod software on another computer and it worked fine. The only difference was my other computer was windows xp.
Help?

UPDATE:
While the iPod Nano would not even turn on in the two computers I tried earlier at home (and posted above about), when I plugged it in on my work computer (PC, Windows 7), the iPod Nano turned on fine as a brand new set up on this computer's iTunes and now it is working.
Very strange that it would crap out at home every time even though I changed the drive letter and followed all the other instructions.
I have to yet check if I can sync at home or not or if it will ask me to restore again!

I am having problems importing to my Ipod nano via windows 8.  I usually do this from a windows 7 computer and have had no problems; hoever in windows 8 I can only see items purchased in the Itunes store.  I do not have access to my entire library, which includes song uploaded from CDs and some videos.  As a result, I'm having problems uploading any new items from CDs or DVDs.  The computer with windows 8 is an authorized computer, so I don't understand why I'm having the problem.

I get a message "The Itunes server could not be contacted, check your internet connection" when trying to check for Ipod Nano software updates. I have a 1st generation Nano and haven't updated the software for a while. My internet connection is working. Was thre a change in the internet address for NANO software updates? Do I have to reconfigure something in Itunes to point to the correct address?

What version of iTunes are you using?  The latest is 10.6.3. In iTunes, choose Help -> About iTunes to check the version number. If it's lower than 10.6.3, download the latest version from here.

  • BUG: - iPod Nano Software - Clock - Arizona no longer in MST

This is a pretty simple one. Since Arizona started observing Daylight Savings time, they also now observe PST clocks which the iPod Nano software does not reflect.
I'm willing to bet this is a bug across more products than just the iPod Nano software.

I'd be willing to bet that Apple considers the
updated behavior to be the "Correct" behavior.
According to the Apple Nano Features Guide:
"Turn on backlight - If the backlight timer is set to Off, press and hold Menu to turn on the backlight"
I would argue that the issue I am experiencing after update is not the correct behavior. Every iPod made, save the shuffle, functioned this same way: hold the menu button for 1-2 seconds to enable backlight.

  • Ipod Nano software on 20gig iPod

Yo, do u reckon that the iPod Nano software with the world clock etc will be avalable for the iPod 20gig?

    Chris,
Noone is able to answer that. In fact, speculating is conflicting with the term of use on the Apple Discussions. It will get a topic locked or removed by the moderators.
But you can give feedback to Apple here.

  • Can't see brand new iPod Nano in Windows!!!

I just bought a brand new iPod Nano (2nd Gen) for my daughter for Christmas, and right out of the box it would not be recognized by Windows XP or iTunes -- even though another iPod Nano (1st Gen) that we own did connect. It was charging though.
I used this forum looking for answers and although helpful, there was an awful lot of misleading advice. I finally called the help line 1-800-275-2273 on this website http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
What I was told was to simply go through the reset process (which I had ignored because it seemed too simple). The steps are to flip the hold button a couple of times and then hold the menu and select (center) button down at the same time for 10 seconds. The iPod will power back up and be reset.
What this tells me is that Apple has a problem with the software originally loaded on these iPods, but at least this simple procedure solved the problem. I thought I would come back here and provide you with the solution to this problem -- hopefully saving you a lot of time! Good luck!!

I agree with you, Apple to me has some type of problem with their iPods. I've used some type of computer device since 1971, and in all this time, I have never used a device such as the iPod with so many quirks.
I tell you one thing the iPod makes you think!!! O;-D
I'm afraid to buy Apple Care because during the 1st year of owning an iPod you get support that really is not much help. Within the 1st year of owning an iPod, a customer can purchase the Apple Care Plan. The Apple Care Plan is only 2 years, and then you are on your own. If Apple had confidence in their iPod's, they would offer a longer warranty period.
The only thing I see Apple Care is good for is that if something catastrophic happen, they will pay for shipping and any parts that are needed to fix it.
Their stock is doing great. Where is the money going???

  • Trying to install 1st generation iPod Nano on Windows 7 OS laptop.

When trying to open i Tunes installed from my original software CD, I get a message ""The files 'i Tunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of i Tunes." I have a 1st generation iPod Nano and a Windows 7 OS laptop. The newer i Tunes wouldn't work with my iPod (said it was corrupted), and when I restored the ipod, my CD-DVD quit working and I had to do a system restore to fix that. Now I am trying to get my ipod working with my PC again and get the above message. What do I need to do to get everything working together?

Don't use the original software CD, because its software is outdated.
Download the latest version of iTunes here
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
It works with all iPods, going back to the first one from 2001.

  • Connecting IPOD Nano to Windows ME machine

Can anyone tell me how to make the new IPOD nano that my Mother got for Christmas work with their Windows ME machine.
Windows ME will not download Itunes. Isn't there some other way to get music onto the Nano.
They tried to get help from a dealer but he told them they were out of luck.
They don't live near me and I am doing all my troubleshooting by phone.
If there is another program that they could use that is simple to install on their machine that would be great.
    Thanks for the help.

iTunes for Windows was first introduced for Windows 2000 so there isn't a version that works natively with either 98 or ME. You could have a look at XPlay, Anapod or Ephpod which will work with Windows 98/ME. However XPlay and Anapod are commercial programs so you might consider it worth the extra expense to upgrade to XP (which you may find at a discount price now that Vista is out) if the computer will run it. You also need to check that those programs will work with the latest iPods which have had changes made to the software. Staying with 98/ME, you may also require drivers, there is a link in the Anapod page to suitable iPod/USB drivers:

  • Ipod nano crashes windows 7

    Hello Apple community,
I am having a problem. My grandpa has an ancient iPod nano 3rd gen 4gb. For some reason, whenever I plug the iPod into his computer, it crashes. Furthermore, with the iPod plugged in his computer it will BSOD again and restart. However as soon as the iPod is unplugged, it works just fine. His computer is a Dell laptop running Windows 7 Enterprise. Another thing, I have tried it on my grandma's computer (Windows 7 Pro) and it works just fine. How can I fix the errors? Please help. Thanks in advance!

    Hi  Kalinka20es,
I understand that you tried installing iTunes on your Windows 7 computer and you are receiving an alert that the installation did not complete correctly. If you see the iTunes icon on your desktop but the program will not launch, I would recommend going through and completely removing iTunes and its components (in order) and then reinstalling a fresh copy of iTunes. These steps can be found in the following article.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
    1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
    Thanks for reaching out,
    -Joe

  • Error when installing ipod nano software

When I try to load the software for my ipod nano I receive the following error
1601:unable to install installshield scripting runtime
I have tried all of the solutions offered but still no luck

OMG! You could sub-title this: "Why Windows Blows" ... I bought a new iPod for my wife - I have to install the sw on the loser windows box because she uses that box.
The iPod (cd) and/or the iTunes (apple.com download) install blows up either under my admin/unrestricted account, or as her limited-user account with the errors described above. I've followed all the links, etc., and jumped through all the hoops but I still get the %#$! 1607 error.
When I try, as a windows "super-user" <snort> to reset the perms on the windows/Installer directory, it gives me the appearance of allowing me to uncheck the box and take the directory out of read-only more, but it doesn't actually reset the directory permissions.
Since windows isn't smart enough to have an equivalent of a chmod 775 command....it looks like we're hosed.
I'm subscribing to the thread in the hopes that someone can actually figure out how to install this software on Windows successfully....until then, I guess she'll have to manage her iPod on my one of my Macs if it will support multiple iPods....
Hey ... Apple - how about itunes/ipod support for linux?
Sigh...frustrated beyond belief; I feel so unclean every time I have to use a windows system...

  • Synching old ipod nano with windows 8

I have a 5th generation iPod nano and just recently purchased a new laptop with windows 8.  I was able to install the itunes program successfully and found all of my past music stored in the cloud. The new computer has been authorized to my existing itunes account.   When I purchased new music and connected my nano, neither the computer nor the itunes software recognized the nano as being attached.  It was as if the nano had never been connected.  The nano doesn't even show up as another drive or a USB device connected.  What could be the problem?  I'd really like to get the song on the nano.  Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
    Many thanks!

    Hi, bevelyn53.
I would recommend installing the Apple Mobile Device Support driver manually.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 in the article below.

  • IPod Nano vs Windows 7 64 bit computer

I have an iPod Nano 6th Gen and a Windows 7 64 bit computer.  With the latest iTunes 64 bit software updated on my computer, when I sync my Nano, it will no longer one finger swipe (like my iPhone), or rotate, I have to double click on any item there is a line around (box) the item I click, and it takes two fingers to swipe.  I restored the Nano on a 32 bit computer and it works fine but my music is all on the 64 bit computer.  Is this a compatibility issue?  When I restore the Nano on my 64 bit computer it reverts to the "broken" mode.  My iPhone and other iPods sync fine with the Windows 7 64 bit computer.
Thinking that it might be the software on my computer, I completely removed iTunes and all drivers and then reinstalled iTunes 64 bit.  Still have a problem with the Nano.  But, again, when I restore it with a 32 bit computer, it works fine.

Yes, a huge difference. At present Muse makes a very large number of small reads of the .muse file during open and throughout working on the file. Due to the latency overhead for each individual read from a server, this makes working with a file on a server painfully slow.
Planned changes to Muse should significantly improve this, but working directly on a file stored on a server will always be noticeably slower than working with the same file stored locally due the latency associated with each file access.

  • How do i sync my ipod nano with windows 8.1?

  • ITunes displays -48 error message when syncing iPod Nano on Windows XP

My girlfriend's mom's iPod Nano ran out of charge while jogging so she decided to charge it on her daughter's iHome. The next day she went to use her iPod but it was totally empty of all music and files. When she tried to sync it to iTunes, she received an eror message stating, "An unknown error has occurred (-48)" from iTunes and a Windows message stating that some iPod folder/file was corrupted.
If anyone receives such a message, I was able to correct it by:
-Plugging in your iPod to your PC
    -Ignore the error messages
    -Go to My Computer
-Find your iPod's drive letter (ie. G:)
-Right-click on it and select Properties
-Go to Tools Tab >Error-checking and select Check Now
You should be able to sync your iPod as before. I do not claim to be an expert so be warned that it may not work for you. Good luck!

    Hey ermides,
Thanks for the question. The following resource provides information if you are receiving a -50 error message when syncing:
