IPod PRO

OK, we all love the iPod, but there are a large number of users that don't think a $3 Digital to Analog converter (that CAN'T be bypassed) is acceptable audio quality in 2008 while the audio on the iPod hard drive is much better if you use Apple lossless or uncompressed encoding.
*So how about an option for digital outs or an iPod PRO Apple - isn't it time?*
I understand the current difficulty for 3rd party vendors wishing to bypass the internal D-A is Apple's proprietary encoding of the digital file and Fairplay, but the digital output could be last in the chain, just before the internal $3 D-A converter.
I think Apple would be surprised at the demand for an iPod PRO (purchasers *would pay more* for the quality). Users love the iPod for it's portability and convenience, but the audio quality has always been *acceptable at best*.
Then Apple could provide PRO 24-bit/Apple lossless compression iTunes albums/songs (with higher prices) as an option, which would bring in a much larger market that has largely dismissed iPod/iTunes for its lack of audio quality.
*If Apple is not interested, allow 3rd parties to provide this.*

  • Can I delete files from my computer and still keep them on my iPod touch?

I have researched this topic here as well as on Google and I am not really getting the answers I need. I am by no means an iTunes/iPod pro; my 3 year old recently showed me how to shut off my iPod (I hadn't realized before that it had anything other than a "sleep mode", if you will).
I have read you need to set iTunes from autosync to manual, but this isn't working for me... iTunes still wants to delete/replace everything currently stored on my iPod, or will say it can't find the files on my iPod if I've already deleted them from my PC.
I have Windows XP. I recently upgraded my iTunes software to 9.2.1.5, and I have an iPod touch 64GB.
I really need to delete a lot of MP3s and videos (not purchased from iTunes) to clear up space on my home PC, but I'm afraid to do it because every time I end up having to replace the deleted files anyway whenever I sync the thing.
I click on "manual" on the Summary page, I then click on "sync music" and "Sync Movies". On each of those pages I get a pop up, and if I don't click on music or movies previously added to my iPod, they get deleted. The "manual" option doesn't save itself as the default option either, I always have to recheck it every time I sync my iPod. Otherwise, it always goes back to the autosync mode.
I would just like to add new files to my iPod, leave the stuff already stored on it, and delete the files off my computer. I don't know if I'm still doing it wrong, or if there's an iTunes glitch or what. Can someone please explain how to do this?

Sounds like you have a few problems going on here. First one being, the itunes/ipod preference isn't getting saved for manually managing.
Second one being, if you are intending to manually manage content on your ipod, hitting sync does just that - it puts the ipod "in sync" with the PC. If a file isn't on the PC, it gets erased from the ipod.
My advice is to get an external hard drive, leave the ripped files from your CDs there so itunes always has access to them, and free up space on your PC's hard drive that way. An added benefit of having an exHD is, you can have backups copies of your purchased tracks, since you only get one download of them. If your PC dies, they will be on the exHD, or vice versa.

  • Problems with ipod after updating it

I hooked up my ipod and it was recognized by itunes. itunes asked me if i wanted to update the ipod and i clicked yes. While in the process of being updated, the ipod turned off and tried to restart but instead of restarting to complete the procedure, the ipod kept on turning on and off. I unplugged the ipod from the computer and plugged it in the electrical outlet, but unfortunately it keeps doing the same thing, just turning on and off. I tried to reset the ipod but it would not let me and now the ipod just keeps turning on and off by itself. What should I do ? Any ipod Pros out there that can help me Thank you

You could try resetting the Firmware... Plug it into your computer, and open iTunes 7.0, when your iPod shows up, click on it and click Restore, this will restore your iPod to the original settings and firmware.
If you cannot get the iPod to plugin and sync with iTunes, you might want to call AppleCare for more information.

  • IPod Touch 2g no longer recognized by Mac Pro

Earlier this week my Mac Pro stopped recognizing my 2g iPod Touch (doesn't show up in iTunes at all).
    So far I've tried:
    * Using a different USB port (ports tried work fine with other peripherals)
    * Restarting the iPod
    * Restarting the Mac
    * Deleting & recreating iTunes library (per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451)
    * Deleting & reinstalling iTunes (per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224)
    * Wiping iPod
    * Deleting & reinstalling Mobile Device support (per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747)
Despite all of this, the Touch fails to show up in iTunes -- the cable & iPod are fine, as they sync properly with our iBook (which, unfortunately, has none of my media on it, nor the disk space for it).
    What's the next step?

I wouldnt think it is un-fixable, just have to narrow down where the issue is.
Im assuming since you reinstalled iTunes that the current version(8.2.1) is installed. When you uninstalled iTunes, did you just do iTunes and the iTunes helper? or did you remove all of the plist files as well?
I would follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747 to remove apple mobile device and do http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224 all the way through including the com.apple.iTunes files and then reinstall iTunes so that it replaces both iTunes and AMDS at the same time.
Is the iPod charging when its connected?
I do apologize for acknowledging that you said the iPod did work on your Macbook in your first post.

  • My iPod Nano is no longer being detected by my MacBook Pro

It does not show up in my device list so I don't see it in iTunes on my MacBook Pro. Nevertheless I can see it on my wife's iMac... but I don't want to sync it with her computer but mine! I wonder if I took it off the list by mistake when I thought I deleted my Mini iPad... How can I get it back so I can start syncing again with my MacBook Pro?

I have the same issue. Ever since the "auto security update" my iPod shuffle and iPod Nano do not show in iTunes. I know the "auto security update" is the culprit, as these devices were not showing up on the iMac. I tried them on Macbook Air, and they showed up in iTunes, that is until the auto update installed on the MacBook Air. After the updates, these iPods do not show up under devices in iTunes. They are however visible on both my mac's in the desktop. Please help.

PS. I though I had done something wrong, and deleted iTunes, and reinstalled iTunes. Reset my iPod Nano, etc. Tried everything, I am now stuck with 2 bricks as of now.

  • TS1369 iPod Classic suddenly not being recognized in iTunes on MacBook Pro

I just got a new MacBook Pro a few weeks ago, and have had no issues connecting my iPod Classic to it via iTunes. Yesterday, however, my iPod stopped registering in iTunes. I checked in the System Reports on my MacBook, and I can see that the USB Hub is acknowledging that the iPod is there, AND the iPod is charging when connected so I know it's not a connection issue with the cord, however the iPod still isn't registering in iTunes. If I plug up my iPhone, though, it shows up so it's likely not the computer either. My iPod is working fine and has been connecting fine until yesterday morning when it suddenly just didn't apear anymore. I need to fix it ASAP! Help!

    Have you tried everything here?

  • IPOD Nano appears in Windows XP Pro, but not in iTunes even 7.1.1

    Dear Experts
I have 1 GB iPOD nano. In my computer it is identifying in My Computer. But, not in iTunes.
But, if I put the iPod in Disk Mode, then it is being identified both in My Computer as well as in iTunes also. Then, If I sinc OR manually drag music from PC to iPod in iTunes, it is happening. But after ejecting the iPod from iTunes. The iPod go on blinking mode only.
(Off and On). How to take it out from Blinking mode to normal I am not able to know.
Then in that stage If I reconnect it to PC, it is appearing in Disk mode in iTunes. Then to get it normal mode I need to restore it in iTunes. Then only it is comming to normal ipod activity after rmoving it from PC. But after restore there is no music na.
Software also updated from 1.1 to 1.3 through iTunes in Disk mode. I have downloaded lates iTunes 7.1.1 also from net.
Please guide me to solve my proble. I found so many people like me who purchased iPod of Apple suffering like this. Why Apple put this much tipical process for their product ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • 2nd iPod Classic locking up when connecting to MacBook Pro

I'll sum up the lead-in story as best I can.
I have a 2010 MacBook Pro 13". Just got an new iPod Classic a couple weeks back. I discovered that when playing the iQuiz game, I had a few lock-ups (freezing). Then a handful of times, it locked up when connecting it to the MacBook for charging or syncing. It didn't lock up EVERY time. But about 1 out of every 4 syncs on average.
I naturally thought something was wrong with the Classic, and brought it into the Apple store when it was locked up, and they gave me a new one.
But now this one is doing the same thing. Occasional lock-ups when connecting to the MacBook Pro. Doesn't matter which USB port. And doesn't seem to matter if the computer has been on, or if it's a fresh boot.
What could be going on here? I doubt highly that both Classics I've gotten have the same exact issue with occasional lock-ups when connected to the computer. My MBP otherwise has given me no problems. And no problems with other USB devices, ever.
    Any ideas?

Update: bought a new usb sync cable to try, and no change. the Classic locked up the first try with the new cable.

  • Can i use my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro

I registered my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro.  While on my macbook, I tried to download wma audiobooks from the library using overdrive media console & its not working.....so, I decided to use my windows laptop.  I have the latest version of itunes on both laptops.  (I know I can download & transfer wma audiobooks to my shuffle using overdrive media console & windows laptop.)  I'm getting an error message that says I have to reformat my nano if I want to download wma audiobooks.  Can I use my nano on macbook pro & windows laptop?  will I ever be able to download wma audiobooks to my nano using macbook?

Your iPod Nano will need to be restored in iTunes on the Windows laptop before you can start adding/syncing content over to it.
Or if you want to use it with OverDrive on the Mac, you'll need to download the books as MP3s as WMA is not supported.

  • I have an iPod G2 with a firewire 400 lead. how can I attach it to my new 13 inch Mac book Pro, is there a 400 to 800 firewire converter. USB lead wont work with the Macbook Pro. iPod used as an external drive to archive memory cards on the go.

My G2 iPod that I use as an external drive to archive memory cards on the go cannot link with my new 13" Macbook Pro cause it uses a firewire 400 lead. It will not work with a USB lead. Is there a firewire 800 ipod lead or converter available? Can any one shed some light on this please?

As far as I know, if a harddrive works with a Macpro, it should work with the Macbook: if your Macbook is low on power, plug in the AC adapter
If your Macbook has a firewire port, then it should be fine. BUt i would do somemore research first.

  • When I synch my iPod w. new MacBook Pro, laptop doesn't show which podcasts I've already listened to on the iPod.  (My old MacBook did do that.)

I used to download new podcasts to my old MacBook, plug in my iPod, click the Synch button, and not only did the new podcasts get copied from the laptop to the iPod, but iTunes on my laptop would show which podcasts I'd already listened to, so it was easy to delete the old stuff, synch again, and the old podcasts would be gone from both the laptop and the iPod.
When I try to do the same thing with my new MacBook Pro (which I set up using  the Migration Assistant to copy apps, including iTunes, from my old laptop), that doesn't happen:  When I download a new podcast, plug in my iPod, and hit Synch, the new podcast isn't copied, nor does iTunes show which podcasts I've listened to since the iPod was plugged in the last time.
What used to be quick and easy is now cumberson and, because it's hard to remember which podcasts I've listed to and which I havened, error-prone!
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Richard

The installer DMG will be in the Applications folder
I haven't tested this, but it seems somewhat at odds with this recent MacWorld article, which gives a method for "capturing" the Lion installer downloaded via the Recovery HD, and then creating a bootable installer volume from it.
Create a bootable Lion install drive for newer Macs
The article is meant for Macs that came pre-installed with Lion and therefore can't use the App store. The article describes a procedure to retrieve the Lion download not from /Applications but from a folder named "Mac OS X Install Data" which gets created at the root of the drive where Lion is to be installed. It's tricky, because normally that installer self-launches immediately after the download, and then deletes itself afterwards.
They distinguish this procedure from an earlier, simpler one that can be used if Lion gets downloaded via the App store - they reference an earlier article for that situation, which does involve retrieving the installer from /Applications. That method has been publicized in many places.
The inference for me was  that the Recovery HD does not download anything to /Applications - otherwise the earlier procedure would work, and this new article would be unnecessary.  As I said, thoiugh, I haven't tested anything.
