Ipod scrolls through playlists uncontrollably

When I press play, my ipod scrolls through playlists and songs uncontrollably. I tried rebooting to no avail. Any tips? Do I have to restore to factory settings?

Having the same problems! Thanks for the advice.
Attempted a restore but then connecting the ipod, iTunes does not recognize it to sync any music. Did I not perform the restore correctly?
I had a problem with a playlist once in that the live updating was working properly. The apple tech support line assisted b/c I could not get the ipod updater to load. As I go through the sequence of prompts and I choose the hard drive it tells me it will take 0 bytes to install and on the next screen the items to install are faded and listed as disabled and I cannot install them. It is some glitch that was easily overcome but they went through it so fast the details are no longer clear and I failed to write it down. Trust me, I am kicking myself. Sound familiar?
Any ideas, please?

  • Apple ipod mini scrolling through songs

I recently set up a mini on my itunes for my daughter with her own playlist as described in the site. I had to transfer her songs over to my computer and some of them she got off of the store had to be authorized. BUT...Now her mini scrolls through all of her songs uncontrolled when you try to play them. What is causing this??
    Help!! Thanks

This has happened to me also, and I'm just as clueless! At random times all or just some songs in a playlist/artist/album will suddenly scroll rather than play for now reason. I had it happen within the very same day - one hour it works fine and the next it's scrolling and I haven't done anything to it.
The only good thing is it seems to fix itself after I connect the it to the computer and it updates itself. But still, it's very irritating, almost as much as how Apple Techs don't seem to want to talk about it. I'm guessing they rushed this thing out to market and haven't a clue either as to why it happens.
And I've had other unexplained quirks both with the iPod and with iTunes. I got my mini as a gift, but given how "iPod Tech Support" is a new oxymoron, I doubt if I'll ever buy another one when this craps out.

  • My ipod classic has started making a mewing sound and all it does is scroll through the songs.  It will not play except when connected to my computer.  I tried resyncing and that did not work. How do I fix this problem?

My ipod classic has started making a mewling sound and all it does is scroll through the songs.  It does not play on my Bose sound dock or through earbuds.  It will play when connected to the computer...but that makes it hard to take it on a walk with me   I thought it might be a synching problem so tried that--still doesn't work.  How do I fix this problem with out restoring it to the factory setting?  I do not want to lose all my music content as some of it I cannot replace easily.  Please help with suggestions and advice. Thanks.  Karen in GA

Have you recharge your iPod for at least 2 hours, preferably till the Full charge Battery symbol comes ON.?

  • Playlist just scrolls through tunes at top of screen but won't allow me to play them

my playist just scrolls through each title in the list but won't allow me to stop it nor will it play anything from playlists.  installed iOS6 and it worked fine until today (about a week).  Also turned on iTunes match and it continued to work for about 3 weeks.  Still works on my other iphone4, but not on my 4s.  Power down and up didn't work to fix the 4s - phone still sees titles, but only scrolls through them on its own and won't play any tunes

    Hi Diver,
I haven't ever seen this happen, but if quitting apps and hard resets don't do it you might want to start clean. Are you able to run a backup of your iPad mini? If I was in your shoes, I would back up the iPad, erase the iPad and then restore the data to see if that fixes it.
Step 1 would be to back up the data (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766).
Step 2 would be to restore the iPad to factory settings (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414).
Step 3 would be to restore the backup (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766).
    Hope this helps!!

  • Help!!! My iPod Mini keeps scrolling through songs, I can't select

When I choose songs, and select one, the song does not play. The Ipod mini just continues scrolling through song titles. We can pause, but not play. Tried reset, no good. Any ideas?

    Hi Tracey,
Does this only happen with songs that you've purchased from the iTunes Store, or does it happen with imported CDs, too?
If it's only with the iTS songs, then take a look here:
iPod doesn't play purchased content from the iTunes Store
If it also happens with imported music as well, then I would suggest that you try restoring your iPod.
For info on restoring, see this article about it:

  • Scroll through long list (Photo and iPod)

    Hi!
I'm the new guy here so be gentle...
Any way to scroll through a long list in iPod or Photo, as you can with Contacts (by dragging up/down on the leters at left)?
I know you can tap and view a single photo then scroll through at the bottom.
When viewing all photos, there is a scroll bar on the right but can't drag it.
    Same in iPod.
Drag and flick work but if there is more than a page or two, it's a pain.

+I was hoping maybe there's a three finger, double tap, right swipe, followed by a half clockwise circle to get the bottom/top+
Well, yes there is but then I would have to show you the secret hand shake and swear you to secrecy.
+It's got the slider on the right side but it's just for looks. You can't grab it and slide it+
I still haven't figured the point of that, maybe a future enhancement?
There has been a lot of grumbling about the unfriendly nature of Photos for people with a lot of images. Maybe Apple is listening and will do something about it. I keep hoping one of the iOS upgrades will include folders/albums from within Photos instead of relying on syncing.
Also note that you can not delete images from Photos that have been added by syncing through iTunes...have to delete them back in iTunes.
But still, the iPad is a terrific photo display device due to its size.

  • How can I scroll through my playlists under "music" when synching my phone?  Using a mac book air and can't scroll.

I keep synching my phone to remove playlists and I can't scroll through my options under "music" in the synch.  I actually can't scroll through the landing page fro synch either.  Is there something special I need to be doing?

How are you trying to scroll?
Are you using two fingers on the touchpad?

  • Scrolls through the music library but doesn't play.

I have an original U2 iPod from 2004.
It has stopped working for me. I start at the main menu. I go to Music, then to Artist (or song title), then to the song I want and when I hit the play button, it simply starts to scroll through the playlist. It won't actually play any songs.
Do you think this is a hardware problem? I have downloaded the most recent version of software so that's up to date.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

  • IPod cycles through titles without playing

When I select a playlist, then a song title, the iPod cycles through the titles very fast without playing them then returns me to the menu the catgories menu.
    I have updated everything.
    thanks

Does this happen to your entire collection, or just a playlist?
The reason I ask is,I just solved the same problem that cropped up today on my 3rd Gen iPod.
I purchased 13 songs yesterday with a gift certificate. I created a playlist called "new iTunes" on the iPod. The tracks played fine just this morning (off the iPod itself). This afternoon, they only played through iTunes when the iPod was connected to my computer. Otherwise, the playlist just scrolled like you're describing.
The weird thing was, even if I selected an individual song through the "Songs" or "Artists" menu, it would go back and scroll through the playlist. So I tried deleting the playlist in iTunes.
Now it seems to work fine. Not sure what happened... corrupted playlist maybe? Perhaps deleting the playlist broke the connection between them or something.

  • 2010 Tundra iPod Scrolling Songs

I looked as long as I could before deciding to finally post the question. I just purchased a new, 2010 Limited Tundra CrewMax. One of the features on my new Tundra is the USB connection for the iPod with the ability to control the iPod from the radio/steering wheel instead of having to pick up the iPod every time to change songs. The only issue I have with it is scrolling through the list of songs on my iPod when connected to the radio via the USB connection. When scrolling through the list of songs/artists on my iPod through the radio, if I leave it on a particular song/artist for more than a couple of seconds it immediately begins to play whatever song is being displayed on the radio display. This is especially irritating while listening to one song and scrolling through to find another to listen to. Again, if I don't scroll through fast enough it will immediately begin playing whatever song is shown on the radio display without me having to press the button to actually select it. Is this a setting on the iPod or something that can be changed in the radio? Oh, btw, it's a 16GB iPod Nano. I have only found this mentioned on one other site, and still, no answer was ever given. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! However, if I'm stuck with it the way it is and it can't be changed, then oh well. I've posted on a Tundra forum and have gotten no solutions. I hate the idea of having to pay Apple Support just to be able submit a question via email, so I'm posting here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Crashes when scrolling through the albums (iOS 5)

    Hi all,
I have an ipod touch 3 gen with the new iOS 5, and every time I turn it sideways to scroll through the albums, fast, it just crashes and restarts...
Anybody else having the same issue? It's like the iOS is to taxting for the ipod.
Also when locked and I double tap the Home button for the quick controls, I get some micro freezes when forwarding or backwarding songs...
Is anybody else having this problem?
Is there something I could do to improve performance?
Will this be fixed on the next update?
    This is driving me nuts!!
    Thank you.

  • Why I can't I do a songs sort which are marked by !'s (apostrophes) on the left side of list indicating the song does not exist in my music border, instead of scrolling through 1000's of song manually?? Seems stupid, no?

Why I can't I do a songs sort which are marked by !'s (apostrophes) on the left side indicating the song does not exist in my music border, instead of scrolling through 1000's of song manually?? Seems stupid, no? And these !'s appear only when you try to play that song and it says "unable to locate".

Use Shift+Delete to remove items from a playlist and the library at the same time.

  • I can't scroll through my music - only plays from beginning of tunes

    Hi,
I have a 2gb ipod nano. When the blue bar is on the "Music" option and I press the center (round) button the screen shows the white apple with the black background for a few seconds and then shows the menu screen again. I am able to press the center button on the rest of my menu items and scroll through them just fine - but the only way I can listen to my music is by pressing play and then it just plays from the beginning of my list of tunes (like on an ipod shuffle). If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate it.
