IPod switches off completely instead of sleep or deep-sleep

Hello,
I searched in this group and other sources but found no help.
My iPod (4th generation with click-wheel) works well when i hear music. But when I pause it switches off completely after 1 minute. it can only be awaked with a reset (buttons menu & enter). But then he forgot the position of last song or audiobook. It seems not possible to put him into normal sleep or deep-sleep mode. Even if I switch it off by hand, it can only be brought back through a reset.
I use the current software and did a recover, this didn't solve the problem.
Does anyone know this behaviour?
Thanks a lot,
Michael
Toshiba Satellite M30 & iPod 4th. generation   Windows XP Pro   and a lot of Solaris systems....

Hi,
yes, I found a solution in the meantime!
After I had the effect the first time I backed all the music & calendar files from the ipods directories to my local harddisk. After installing the ipod firmware I played back the files - and had the same errors.
My last solution was to format the ipod harddrive and after installing the firmware again I did not recover the backed up files - and since this time it works well again.
I had to freshly import all my mp3's with the itunes software but that was woth it.
HTH,
Michael

  • MacBook Pro shutting off completely when in sleep/ standby

Hello! I have posted this on the end of another thread with the same issue, but that thread was from a few months ago, so thought I would start a new one as well incase my question was lost at the end of the previous thread.
Having some issues over the last couple of days with my Macbook Pro not waking up after going to sleep. The white stand by light on the front doesn't flash intermittently and it's like it's been shut down completely- the only way to wake it up is to do a hard boot (holding down the power button).
Also, unsure if this is related or not, but occasionally it will freeze on the powering up screen (white with Apple logo), for ages or just completely. The only way to resolve is to switch off and try again. Like I said, only occasionally, not constantly, and it had been doing that for a while before the issue with shutting off when going into sleep mode occurred.
I did an 'Etre Check' and it came back saying everything was fine.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

Just to give an update on what actually happened, the logic board was knackered and needed to be replaced (with labour, this should have cost £410)... On a Macbook Pro which was almost exactly a year and a half old. I believe this is actually a lot more common than it probably should be (from doing a seach to find other people in similar situations, as well as court cases). Though, thankfully if you buy the product through Apple, they're happy to sort it out with no cost to yourself and no issues (providing the laptop is in good condition and less than 6 years old). Mine was actually from Tesco, and luckily enough there wasn't too much difficulty in getting a partial refund to cover the cost of repairs, though I believe this isn't the case with some other retailers, though Apple themselves are trying to change this and be as helpful as possible.
So, basically, I'm leaving this information here incase anyone should happen to find this by doing a search of similar symptoms to those I had. If you find out your logic board has gone and your 1 year warranty is no longer valid, pursue the retailler who you originally bought the product from. By law in the UK (under the UK Sales of Goods Act.) they have to help you out as your electrical goods should last 'a reasonable amount of time', which is anything up to 6 years. Hopefully there are similar laws and consumer rights in place in other countries too. Again, Apple are very much aware of the situation with the logic boards so will more than likely help you out as much as they can.

  • Click wheel still clicks after iPod  switches off!

    Hi
is it normal that the Clickwheel still makes clicking noises (if touching) after i switched the iPod (5g) off.
I also own a Ipod nano, where this does not happen!

Does it do this after it has been off for 10 minutes?
Also, the iPod doesn't completely turn off for 36 hours.

  • How to switch off completely log4j

    Hello,
I used log4j for log purpose. It is fine.
But for production, I would completely switch off log4j or even remove it.
What is the easiest way to do it?
In C++, it should be "if defined ....".
    Thanks.
    Pengyou

By setting level to "off" i can just make the log
file empty.Isn't that good enough? You should allow for logging warnings and errors, so it might not stay empty.
But those trace by log4j 1.3 alpha 6
still appear in the screen. That would have nothing to do with the logging level - as you indicated, they (Log4J) left in some System.out.printlns. I wouldn't expect this to carry forward when they move off of the "alpha" version. You do know what "alpha" means in this regard, don't you?
Seems no way to find a solution except change the
source code of log4j.No, don't do that. Then you'll lose whatever changes Log4J makes moving forward
What a pity for this software.Log4J is great. Why are you using an "alpha" version though? Use their latest stable release instead.

  • My ipod switched off and wont start now. what should i do?

Ipod went off on its own and isnt starting now.

After conncting to a chargng source for half an hour:
    - Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try connecting it to your computer.  If iTunes sees the iPod, restore the iPod via iTunes
    - If iTunes does not see the iPod. see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store

  • USB WD Drive wont switch off when Mac Mini sleeps

Can anyone help. My WD USB drive remains powered when my mac mini sleeps. I have tried "switch off hard drives when possible" in the preferences but still no joy. Any advice?

    Hi Phras81-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
Unfortunately the inability to sleep is a function of the drive itself. Which model WD drive? If it is a MyBook and you can return it I would suggest that you do so and get something else.
    Luck-

  • IPod switches off when the light goes off.

When I play music in the car on my Nano, I switch it on, using shuffle. After 40 seconds or so the light of the Nano goes off and the music switches off. I restart it sometimes 8 or 9 times. Suddenly it continues to play, also for a 3 hour drive and doesn't switch off again.
I can find no explanation for this. Any ideas?

    Hi Jackie 1,
Since I'm not sure which iPod nano you have, you might want to start here:
iPod troubleshooting basics and service FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1382
which has a link to more specific help at:
    iPod Support
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/
Selecting the iPod nano (7th generation) for example, then the troubleshooting section shows this article:
iPod nano (6th generation): Music stops when display turns off
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3700
Verify that you have firmly connected the headphones to the headphone jack on your iPod nano.  The cable should be flush against the iPod with no visible gap.
    Hope that works for you,
    Nubz

  • PowerMac G4 switches off when set to sleep

My venerable PowerMac G4 works just fine. However since a few weeks it switches itself off when put to sleep. The switch-off is a crash, like the power plug has been unplugged. An immediate restart doesn't work, the light just goes on for a second or two, afterwards the whole power vanishes again. After a few minutes the Mac can be normally restarted.
When left of the Mac works perfectly and doesn't crash at all.
Sounds to me like a certain power which is to be supplied by the internal power suplly just during sleep-mode is gone. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    hi,
thanks for your suggestions. I trashed the com.apple.powermanagement.plist file but there was no autowake file. The behaviour remained the same. I then reset the PMU as you suggested - still no change.
In the meantime I got another problem: the mouse is behaving erratically, the pointer is moving in jumps or not at all. The mouse shows the same behaviour when plugged in to my PowerBook - it must be faulty. I have just ordered a new Mighty Mouse to rule out any issue deriving from a broken mouse. I will also change the Lithium Battery on the motherboard even given the voltage is at 3,64 V, which should be sufficient.
Do you have any further suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    hi wolfman62--
i would try a couple of things. first, go to
/library/preferences and trash a couple of files in
    the folder called systemconfiguration --
    com.apple.powermanagement.plist and
    com.apple.autowake.plist. then restart the
computer. test to see if there is any change. if
not, try resetting the pmu. to do this, shut off
all power to the computer and disconnect any
peripherals. then remove the power cord from where
it goes into the back of the machine into the power
supply. then remove the side panel and plastic air
deflector if your model has one. then look on the
bottom left corner of the logic board under the
bottom set of ram banks. there is a little square
with a button on it. (you might have to remove a
fan in order to find it.) ground yourself by
touching some metal and then letting go, and then
press the button on the logic board counting one one
thousand, and then release it. do not press it
twice as it can blow the chip. then put everything
back together and see if there is any difference.
let me know if either of those things makes any
    difference. [ 8 ) ]

  • IPOD turns off music when the sleep music is pressed

I've got a question. How do I set my i pod nano 6th gen to play music while the screen is dark? I recently got the lastest update, but now if I turn on my i pod nano and pick a song then press the sleep/wake button to turn off the screen (to conserve battery power) the music stops. Also if I play a song and don't touch anything, my i pod nano screen goes dark and the music shuts off. Cause in the previous update i could do that. HELP ME!

Have you double checked to make sure the headphones were plugged all the way in, meaning you don't see any of the metal from the jack showing?
By the way, you posted this in the iPod Touch forum, even though it's regarding your iPod Nano.

  • My phone switch off automatically what is the problem

Why my phone switch off automatically what is the problem I am using I phone. 5

Do you really mean it switches off completely, or it goes into sleep mode?  If the phone responds when you tap the Home button, then it was in sleep mode and is working as designed.  If it is powering off completely, then that is a fault and you need to take it to your nearest Apple store for evaluation.

  • My ipod shut off randomly... any help??

someone please help meee. my ipod shut off completely randomly & i cannot get it to turn back on! i have tried pressing & holding every button... nothing works. if anyone has had this happen to them & knows what to do, PLEASE HELP ME!

So you have tried a hard reset?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  Don't be afraid to try this procedure more than once as well as hold these two buttons together for up to a minute.
Otherwise, see the article for information and assistance.

    Guys, Have a camera issue....
When I video chat or just use the cam, it gets un detected or switched off automatically. Immediately Sleep and charge function appears on top right corner... Can any one sort out my issues...
    Thnks in advnc,

    > sometime I get a message stating that to get started, connect a camera
From my knowledge the webcam module is connected to the motherboards USB controller.
If there is a lose connection between the camera module and the motherboard, such error message may appear.
I would recommend you to check the webcam status in the device manager. If the webcam isnt listed there, then there is definitely something wrong with the connection of the webcam module.

  • Can I lock my 6th generation ipod nano whilst listening to it as it keeps switching off if i knock the sleep button

can I lock my 6th generation ipod nano whilst listening to it as it keeps switching off if i knock the sleep button?

Okay, I apologize, belay my last posting :/
This evening after a whole day of working fine (again), I had the same problem, but this time my idea couldn't fix it.  One point I'd like to make is to NOT listen to your ears when troubshooting your ipod.  When your ipod is turning off, try tuning into the radio.  Mine tells me that it isn't recognizing my earbuds and won't even turn on the radio.  I'm going to try to clean the connection out, but really?  This is freakin' new, Apple people!  Maybe its a way for the company to make you purchase new accessories for the ipod they replaced with the recall :/
