IPod touch 2nd Gen unresponsive, will not power on or charge.  Have plugged it into my iMac, but will not charge or power on...  Any idea what it could be?

iPod was working without issues, this seemed to come out of nowhere...  Again, does not seem to accept a charge, power on, etc....

In the general settings on my ipod touch 2nd gen, I do not have an update choice. Anyone know anything about this?

An iPod Touch at iOS 3.1.3 and that iTunes states is up to date must be a 1st generation Touch, not 2nd.
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#iPod_touch_2nd_generation  and notice the diffference between the 1st and 2nd gen models.

  • Ipod Touch (2nd gen) drawing too much power, disable USB?

Earlier today, when my iPod Touch (2nd gen) was syncing with iTunes, it disconnected and this error message popped up:
Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device darwing too much power has been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing to much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again.
Now, my Ipod will not sync or charge. I've tried connecting other USB devices (cell phone, wireless mouse and ehd) and get the same message. I've tried a few suggestions online like: restarting/shutting down the computer, restarting the IPod, resetting the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM. None of these worked. I've connected my iPod to my roommate's iMac and it connected with no problem. Is there anything else I can do before using the Genius bar?

  • Ipod Touch 2nd gen add playlist not on ipod screen

My ipod touch 2nd gen does not have ''add play list'' on the play list screen and i can not restore or update, because it is no longer supported by itunes    PLEASE HELP

Did you resolve this issue yet? I'm using a 1st generation iPod Touch [iOS version 3.1.3], and I have the same issue. And, when I sync a Smart Playlist from iTunes to the iPod Touch, it either does not show up as a Smart Playlist, or if it does, and I select it, it is blank. yet, if I search on the iPod Touch under genres, songs, etc., they are there.
What version iOS do you have on your iPod? Also, why do you need to restore or update? I doubt it will fix the problem. From forums I've read, many people have been having similar issues. Seems to be a bug in several of the versions of the iOS. In any case, the original back-up to restore/update your iPod Touch should already be on your computer via iTunes, unless you are trying to update/restore to some other version. I believe it can not go beyond version 4.2.1 for your iPod Touch. You can always do a web search for older versions of the iOS, these are called "ipsw" files. Let me know if this helps, and if you are able to resolve this issue.

  • IPod touch 2nd Gen 8gb will no longer Sync photos.

all the posts I could find that were similar had to do with ipods that were jailbroken and on Windows.
I have iTunes 10.1, iPhoto 6.0.6. running on OSX 10.6.5
    iPod Touch 2nd Gen 8GB OS 4.2.1
The Problem: Since I got 4.0 and later, I have not been able to sync photos from iphoto. itunes says that it is, the bar moves and says all photos have been synced, all the photos I want synced are checked in itunes and still nothing when I check them on my ipod. iPod says no photos in album. I tried deleting the ipod cache on my mac, nothing. I tried syncing to a single file folder with the same photos, same. I tried exporting all the photos I wanted synced to a separate folder to jpg and smaller resolution, same result, no photos on ipod.
Note. the photos used to sync up until 4.0
I have also tried starting from scratch and putting it back to factory defaults then going from backup. Same result.
I have tried rebooting both iMac and iPod, same thing.
and I hate how I can't just email apple and tell them the problem.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I just can't seem to find anyone else with the same problem.
Thanks in advance for the possible help.

I dont get an error message at all. itunes just does its normal business when syncing and says its synced, but no photos. I have never tried mobile me, so I dont think my problem is connected. I dont have $300 to get a new ipod. this makes me sad.

  • While trying to sync my iPod Touch (2nd gen), it will only sync about 5-15 songs before saying "iTunes has stopped working."

I just got some new songs, and want to put them on my iPod. I connected it to my laptop, and iTunes opened and automatically started to sync my songs. It only synced the first 8, then displayed an error message saying "iTunes has stopped working." The only option was to close the program, so I did. I then tried at least ten more times, with the same results. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, but nothing is working. Please help!

  • Ipod Touch 2nd gen won't sync, show up, or charge

The title says it all. An ipod touch of mine (8g 2nd gen touch) will not turn on, respond to any button commands, show up in itunes, and barely charge. My wall charger's light will light up (indicating it is charging), but it will not do anything. I'm pretty sure there have been many questions like this, but im lazy and can someone help me in this specific case?
    thannks.

i have tried there, but its not that kind of problem. believe it or not i have a decent share of experience with ipods and am great at programming and other electronics. the screen is totally black. no connect to itunes, or battery low. black black. its really weird.

  • Windows 7 64 bit, iPod touch 2nd gen, iTunes sync issue

I have Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium and am frustrated to death. I have spent days wiping out my iPod trying something different an only to start all over again. I am not a n00b to computers and only ask because I only find a trail of tears and none of the problems I see look specifically like mine.
I have been following this issue since Feb 2010 and notice reports that are sort of similar back to Jan of 2009. Anyway here is my problem.
iTunes will recognize my iPod touch 2nd Gen. iTunes will "sync" apps and data. iTunes will not sync movies, music, books, or software upgrades.
I get an error code that changes depending on what I am trying and seems to lead to no where. I can't honestly remember the code anymore.
I can sync with this same computer using Windows XP 32 Pro win a VirtualBox VM, but can not do it directly from within Windows 7. So hardware and drivers are not the issue. I reinstalled iTunes with a Vista 64 bit install that I found online which appeared to work temporarily then ultimately I ended up back where I started.
I actually switched to Windows (from linux) because I got tired of the VirtualBox method. Quite ironic that I am still facing the same issue.
On top of the not being able to sync properly from Windows 7 64 bit. Everytime I try I have to put in hours of work to get my Ipod back to working order as iTunes only allows you to sync with one computer and is slower that snail poop in January. In order to try again I have to be willing to commit to the problems that I am most likely to encounter.
    So my questions are
    1. Does anyone have a clue why Apple has not fixed this issue? or is there a solution I don't know about?
    2. Is there an easier way to attempt a fix that does not require me to re organize my 70+ apps on my iPod?
P.S. I do not have an intel based chipset as that seems to have been an issue for others. I have
    ASUS M2V VIA K8T890 AM2 Mother Board
    CPU AMD|A64 X2 4600+
    VGA EVGA GF 7300GT
Have tried direct to MB USB and through powered Hub

Are you sure that you downloaded the 64 bit version and not the 32 bit version?  I would delete the download and try again.  You also might want to look at the iTunes forum since youu have an iTunes problem and not an iPod problem.

Have Ipod Touch 2nd Gen. 64 gig. I noticed that my music will not play alphabetically anymore. Don't know exactly when this occured. I checked all my settings so doesn't seem to be that.Apple no longer is upgrading this unit..I use windows XP but don't believe this is an issue since i have read posts saying this is not the problem..right now am converting my higher bit rate music to see if that changes anything. I also turned off my unit and the next thing am going to do is a restore if this doesn't work. Anyone find a fix for this yet? I also see that this is not a unique problem to Gen 2 units and is occuring on newer units as well..thank you all for any advise...

    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • IPod touch 2nd gen will not open in iTunes. Ideas?

I upgrading the latest version of iTunes and I went to sync my iPod touch 2nd gen to get my latest podcasts and it would not sync or even recognize in iTunes. My PC recognizes the drive. But iTunes is a no go. I suspected it was just the latest version of iTunes so I downgraded back to the previous version and got the same results. I've switched USB ports, cables and have restarted numerous times. I even uninstalled the device from the device manager but nothing is working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have an ipod touch 2nd gen and have ios 4.2.1. I recently tried to download some apps and received a message that said I need a higher ios version (like 4.3 or higher). I know there used to be apps that worked before but I deleted them. When I tried to re-download them again they say they won't work. Options?

Import the older versions to the iTunes library from your computer or a backup of it, or buy a newer device, or give up.

  • Why is my wifi on my ipod touch 2nd gen not working?

Can someone help with the wifi on my ipod touch 2nd Gen? Yesterday it suddenly stopped connecting to anything wifi. No settings were changed. The only thing I did was go to itunes for the first time in well, forever. I always use it on my computer to go in itunes, not my ipod. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I could still get on Safari after that but I don't really remember. At some point in the evening it stopped connecting. I can't get on Safari, my mail won't refresh, it would connect to the app store, nothing. Sometimes a message does pop up saying there was a problem connecting to the server. I can't figure this out, internet on my computer is running perfectly fine. My ipod wifi is on, airplane mode off. When I go into my settings it shows my network and that it's connected. I haven't connected it or synced it to the new itunes. I actually haven't downloaded the update yet. Ipod is up to date though without the new sync. Can anyone help me out? I'm very confused.
    Thanks

  • IPod Touch (2nd gen) not recognized by computer and iTunes

When I connect my iPod Touch to my laptop, running Windows 7, neither the computer nor iTunes recognizes my iPod. Everything worked before with Vista.
When I plug the iPod into the computer the iPod does turn on put the battery doesn't charge and the iPod does not show on the Device Manager.
I have gone through and uninstalled and the reinstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application support. With no positive result. In fact I have done it twice.
In going back to make sure everything had installed I have noticed several things.
The Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes folders and Common Files are located in Program Files(x86) There are also copies of the Bonjour, iPod, Common Files, and iTunes folders are also located in the Program Files folder. Are these file locations correct?
Also, I have read somewhere that there should be usbaapl.cab, usbaapl.inf, usbaapl.sys files. I can't find any of these file. Are these files necessary?
    Any help will be appreciated.

greetings rkonrv and welcome to Apple discussions !
it seems your have seen this KG then.
maybe this tip by Beebopp (though a little off topic) will provide some pointers:
+This solution is very similar to one above but worked for me. Am using iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 32 bit version of Windows Vista where the iTouch is being seen by Windows but does not show in iTunes. In my case it was being identified by Windows as a camera. I tried un-installing and re-installing iTunes and all the other Apple apps with no luck. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to C:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Try this if you are having similiar issues.+
    +Here are the steps:+
    +1. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"+
+2. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account+
+3. Single left click on START+
+4. Single left click on RUN (You may need to change the start menu to 'classic view' to see RUN, you can change back after if you like)+
    +5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)+
+6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)+
+7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)+
+8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties+
+9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab+
+10. Single left click on " Update driver "+
+11. Select " Install from a list or specific location " or "Browse my computer" whichever shows on your version of Vista+
+12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search " if shown+
+13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box " Include this location in the search "+
+14. Single left click NEXT and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected, if no list appears then you should see the little animated circle thingie spinning. It's looking and working. Be patient.+
+15. Hopefully you will get a successful message.+
    +16. The correct drivers(s) are now installed.+
+17. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.+
    good luck !
