IPod Touch 3G into a 2G case?

I think I have an iPod Touch 3G. At least I bought it from the Apple Store in October 2009 and I can use voice activated commands to listen to my music - so I guess it is a 3G model. I can't say for sure though.
I'm looking for a protective case of some sort for it. I have noticed that most vendors differentiate the 2G and 3G devices by stating the product is either for one or the other.
I finally found a case I liked the look of on the Apple store. It says the case is 2G.
What is the difference between my iPod and the previous model? Will my 3g iPod fit into a 2g case?
Looking at all the photos I can find online I still can't discern any difference between the models visually. Apple Store has by far the best photos, nevertheless I can't work out what the difference is.
If I get the case I fancy, will it fit my iPod Touch (3G)? I suspect that it will but it would be great if someone could confirm (or refute) this please?

Any case for the 2g will fit the 3g. They are identical as far as size. It's the internals that are different.

My iPod Touch Fell Into The Tub!

My iPod Touch fell into the tub. Within 1 to 2 seconds I got it out immediately. It was on when it fell into the tub. After retreiving it I set it on the floor and turned it off. After completing my errands I set it on the nearby stand. As I was finishing up I saw a flash of light go on and off. For the last couple of days I thought it was just completely dead until I figured out that if you press the "home/menu" button and swipe your hand where the "unlock screen" should be you hear the click. You can also hear the click when I turn my iPod off. Also, I have put it in extreme lighting and tilted it a certain way and could see the home menu with all the different apps. You have to strain to see that. I could make out the utilities button and clicked on it to see if adjusting the brightness would help anything. It is up the whole way and it doesn't make a difference. The screen is still as dark as can be. I clicked on the music button and chose the nearest song and it played perfectly. I have also clicked on apps and you can hear the noise even though the screen is so dark that you have to strain to see anything and put it under the brightest light in the world. Please help!!! I'm not exactly sure what the problem is exactly. The screen isn't cracked or anything like that.
THINGS THAT HAVE NOT WORKED ON FIXING MY IPOD
1. Nearest Apple Store is WAY out of my way.
2. Tried adjusting the brightness.
3. Put in a bowl of uncooked rice. (I'm sure there wasn't any water in it to begin with.)
4. Pressed home/menu button and sleep/power button at same time and 8 to 15 seconds in released sleep/power button while still holding the home button and released.
5. Updating iTunes software.

Even though you don't believe water enter into it, the fact that it's not working properly confirms that it did get wet inside. It apears that the LCD panel backlight is not functioning. the only cure for this is to have the LCD panel replaced. Hopefully nothing else will fail later due to the water damage. Hope this Helps.

My 5th gen ipod touch dropped face down (with case) and now it will not turn on and is not recognized by my PC. Can anyone help me? I had alot of videos and pictures on it and don't want to loose them.

Last week my 5th generation ipod touch dropped face down onto the ground. When picked up the screen was black and did not turn back on. I tried to connect it to the laptop but it did not recognize the ipod. Also when it is plugged into the laptop the area by the camera gets warm like it is charging. But still has a black screen. I've tried to reset and count to 10, but nothing happends. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? Or is it completely dead? Somebody, anybody please help.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try on another computer

Earlier this week, i was on my laptop when i decided to look at my ipod touch with was next to me, about 10 mintues later. I tried turning on, and the ipod was stuck on the connect to itunes screen, and i was wondering why it was doing that. I plugged it into my computer and it said " Itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes". Restoring was going to delete everything! I already lost my infomation last year to a similar problem. I tried holding the power and menu button for 10-15 sec and then just hold menu 2 secs, it didnt work. I know most people are going to say use a backup, but i havdn't been albe to back up for about 70 weeks. I know i can get back music, but i have a bunch of apps that have memory and pictures and songs, that i'll never get back,like last time. I don't want to lose important docunments again either! Please Help!! ps. I dont remeber my oss or what version it is(like itouch 3 or 4s)

If this program will not get the iPod out of recovery mode you will have to restore the iPod and thus lose everything.

Cannot offer any thoughts other then i am having the same problem. updated my itunes windows7 32bit ipod touch 4th gen. went into restore mode lost over 700 songs. i dont get any error messages i just cannot get into itunes store. Firewall is allowing access, etc resolution checklists done, and nothing.
Hopefully this issue is fixed up soon...

I have an iPod touch and and MacBook Pro; I find that the "sync" that occurs between the two, via my iTunes application, seems one-way (from my computer to my iPod). I would like to have events created on my iPod (while out and about) to be added/adjusted into my computer's iCal; essentially, why is the sync between the two devices not a mutual exchange, and how can I change the import/export settings?

By syncing. The users manual says:
New and changed playlists are copied to your iTunes library the next time you sync iPod touch with your computer, or via iCloud if you’ve subscribed to iTunes Match.
You have to sync, not manage music manually in iTunes.

Put iPod Touch icons into folders and organized all my apps. iTunes keeps erasing them.

   New iPod touch owner. I arranged my icons into folders for all my apps. But everytime I connect to iTunes it erases all my folders. And moves all my icons around. Anyway to tell iTunes or the iPod to not keep erasing all my folders and not to move all my icons around after I have organized them in the way I want.

Hello Everyone,
    I finally figured it out. Did not know you had to be connected to iTunes and then you can drag icons around, put them into folders, delete any apps you do not want on your iPod Touch and more from within iTunes.
    When you done doing what you want, then iTunes syncs your changes to your iPod Touch. And your apps, icons, folders, will all be the same on your iPod Touch as they appear in your iTunes Library.
