Have done all trouble shooting tech a through Apples and still have not resolved issues on Windows and itunes not detecting my Ipod nano 5th generation device. Tried restoring the device manually using disk mode and still not being detected by the computer. Device is our of warenty as when service repair charges are $125.00 dolars more than I paid for this device. There must be some way to restore the entire device to factor settings without having to be connected to itunes and Windows. I wish I could connect but again device is not being read. I have another Ipod that is 8GB instaed of 16GB and it works fine. The sad thing about this situation is that my 9year old daughter worked hard doing delivering fliers for a long time to save her money to buy this 16 GB 5th generation Nano. Otherwise the Ipod works well but will not syncronize songs as it is not being detected. Maybe this is a result of corrupt files that got onto my daughters Ipod somehow and thus causing it not the be detwected through the USB connection thus as a result not be understoud as a working device through Windows and itunes. If anyone can help me out there including itune techs that would be well appreciated, but for now my daughter is not able to add new or delete any songs on her ipod as well pictures, and everything. Try changing the cord. I could NOT get my computer to recognize my iPod 5th Gen until I read somewhere that different apple devices use different cords. I was inadvertently using my iPad cord and that caused my computer to not recognize my ipod.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

My Ipod Touch will not turn on, recognize itunes and fully function. When it does, once in a blue moon, after 5 minutes it freezes. I am wondering if its becuase battery was left dead for 2 weeks or problems with the iOS. Resetting does not help.

The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 10 - 15 Seconds...

Since installing the latest itunes to windows 8 my iphone and ipod touch is not being recognized in itunes, therefore i can't change playlists or add songs etc. Is this a fault with itunes as it was fine with the older version or is there something i can do. I'm not on IOS yet but would like to backup my phone first but can't do that atm due to not being able to view my phone on itunes!

I would recommend the steps in the article below. See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

ipod touch is not recongnized by my computer anymore. It reads the device as a camera, which it is not. I have done everything except wipe the ipod clean. Fearful if I do, I will not fix problem. Wonder if it is a registery key issue.

because you do not have a 3rd generation device. The OS Version says so , otherwise you would be at 4.3.5 minimum and also Itunes is also always correct in determining if you have the latest OS ( if not it fetches the newest from Apple's Servers ) . And because a 2nd generation iPod stops at 4.2.1 you can't get the newest OS, because your device is old. Buy a new iPod , they have iOS5 preinstalled.

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account. In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync. To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc. For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases. Your email address (used as your Apple ID) does not matter, because iPods are not directly linked to a particular Apple ID.
NOTE: You can still use your old Apple ID, even if your that email address is no longer valid. As long as you remember your Apple ID password. Go here and click on Manage your Apple ID.

You can change the primary email address used by Apple, although the Apple ID remains the same.
Back to the iPod. iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod. You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store. However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer. If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links. Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library. After confirming everything is there, sync your iPod to that library. If there is any content purchased from the iTunes Store that uses DRM (copy protection), such as audiobooks, videos, and very old song purchases, iTunes may prompt you to authorize your computer with your Apple ID (the one you used to make the purchases).
